Happy birthday to my all-time FAVORITE performer! You helped me through some bad times. When my grandmother passed you brought her back to me in your music and I might not be the same without that solace :)

Dean Martin was born Dino Paul Crocetti in Steubenville, Ohio, to Gaetano Alfonso "Guy" Crocetti, an Italian immigrant and barber, and his Ohio-born wife, Angela (Barra) Crocetti. He spoke only Italian until age five.
To define an Italian is as impossible as to define an American. But should I be forced to give a face and a soul to the Italian of the common people as he has been produced by centuries of foreign occupation, Catholicism, hard work, little bread, and blind traditions, I would choose the face and the soul of Dino Crocetti, alias Dean Martin, when he speaks his bad English and waves his ugly-beautiful peasant hands. Such a type reflects a noble cliché: the man with his feet on the earth, yet sentimental; with no cultural curiosity, yet much knowledge in his blood; respecter of men, not of women, yet most respectful of his wife and mother; individualistic; secretly nationalistic; above all, very practical and profoundly wise.

In 1953, 'That's Amore' became a major hit and signature tune for which singer?
Released in 1953, Dean Martin's Italian-American tune has become a beloved staple of pop culture and has been covered by countless artists over the years. The song's upbeat tempo and catchy melody immediately draw listeners in, but it is the lyrics that really make 'That's Amore' stand out. The song opens with the iconic lines, "When the moon hits your eye like a big pizza pie, that's amore".
Throughout the song, Martin sings about the many things that make love so special - from the stars above to the sea below. He even references the classic fairytale of 'Cinderella', urging listeners to "take a chance" on love. But perhaps the most memorable part of 'That's Amore' is the iconic chorus, which encourages everyone to "kiss me" and "hold me tight." It is a simple but powerful message that perfectly captures the joy and excitement of being in love.
Over the years, 'That's Amore' has been featured in numerous movies, TV shows, and commercials, cementing its status as a true classic. The song was played in the 1987 film 'Moonstruck', the 1995 film 'Grumpier Old Men' and the 1999 film 'Stuart Little'.
Dean Martin (born Dino Crocetti, 1917-1995) was an American singer, actor and comedian. Martin's career as a singer began when he met comedian Jerry Lewis at a club and they decided to team up as a comedy-music pair. They worked together for ten years, had a popular radio show and made films. Martin became a huge success on his own when he sang 'That's Amore'.

Do you remember Dean Martin or Jerry Lewis? If you are of the "Boomer" generation, these men were huge hits in your childhood. And throughout his life, Jerry Lewis was a comedy King in France.
Jerry was born Joseph Levitch (https://www.ancientfaces.com/person/jerry-lewis-birth-1926-death-2017/192700700) to Jewish immigrant parents in Newark New Jersey, and Dean was born Dino Paul Crocetti (https://www.ancientfaces.com/person/dean-martin-birth-1917-death-1995/192700701) in Steubenville Ohio to an Italian Immigrant father and a mother of Italian heritage. Only in America could two such diverse men from widely different backgrounds come together and create a wildly successful career.
