The whole Thorin’s Company slept in Bilbo’s home. Even if Bilbo somehow had enough beds for the thirteen dwarves, they would have been simply too small for their robust physiques.

Now imagine waking up after a night of eating, drinking, smoking you-know-what and overall partying… on a hard wooden floor, covered with a blanket (or, in Bofur’s case, a doily), next to your snoring companions, with your back sore and your belly rumbling… and then realizing you and your friends have already eaten everything there was to eat, plus, the plumbing in the bathroom is very much broken.

You have a mighty hangover and you’re about to cover quite a few miles today on the back of your pony. Ouch.

My lord of the rings inspired hand embroidery pattern. An embroidery hoop of white canvas with blackwork embroidered stitches of a scene with a small house on rolling hills, and two figures walking on the left hand side facing the right. It is a scene from Frodo and Sam’s journey to the prancing pony to visit Gandalf at the beginning of the lord of the rings the fellowship of the ring. Laid on a rust colored fabric with a brass candle holder and crocheted doily in the background.

Mmmmmm so I recently got some new hooks

2x Pony Easy Grip (with silicone handles) because they were cheap and felt nice to the touch

And Clover Soft Touch, which. Purely by tactile metrics is losing for me. I think I didn't realise it was just smooth plastic with just one spot using the material I prefer for the whole hook (like Drops Circus, which is just relabeled KnitPro Wave). Yes, with my Gremlin Hold on a hook the whole thumb is on it, I just don't like how it feels on the palm. I guess I expected it to be different based off "soft touch" and how people say it's comfortable to hold. Which to me usually means rubberised/silicony plastic

And now I'm convinced that Clover Amour would be better for me

But I am suddenly stricken with But I Have Something Like It Already

That being. A set of cheap Chinese hooks with silicone handles. Idk if they are actually good, I've just been using them ever since I got them. Some have scratches on the metal now, so I guess it's not a particularly resilient one

So I'm just looking at the Amours forlornly, for I know they are smooth As Fuck (I watched a video where as a tangent, different hooks' surface area was assessed for smoothness, and those hooks made an "I've never seen a surface so smooth" impression on the person doing the analysis)

Also yes my crochet tool purchases for years have been guided by the principle of "I'm getting this as cheaply as possible, because at most I'll need it for casting on"

Well, that actually escalated quickly, as I have. A few finished crocheted items to my name, and more coming, and none of them are doilies or washcloths (I started with crafts baskets, and I have a few of different sizes now), so. More "serious" tools are being looked at with all due respect and desire. After all, I got those Tunisian crochet hooks from the Lantern Moon collection. But now I'm fully stumped by Amours...

I guess I'll give it a week or so, for my thoughts to settle, because with all that thinking there's now so much stirred sediment of doubts about everything XD

I am actually amazed at how well these turned out for a first attempt. The resin didn't get all the way into the ear of the one on the right but that's the only defect I can see so far. The glitter parts look a lot less "dirty" in person.

Though this resin (let's resin crystal clear) won't hold metal glitter in suspension, it does a great job with mica powder (which is what is coloring the lower half of these ponies gold). So I could probably put contrasting glitter and mica in the next batch for an interesting effect. These were cast "upside down" and the glitter all sank to the bottom, creating this effect.

I crocheted that doily by myself btw. Love making tiny things. I'll post when I've painted these but it'll be a while; I want to make sure the resin is FULLY cured before I put any paint on it.

This isn’t a mail call per se; it’s just what I found at the antique mall a month ago! I already showed you my triumphant #breyer elephant find, I was soooo excited to find him hiding in a random table of animals! (Tentatively ID’d as Bimbo? 🤣) Then a pair of random Breyer #christmasornaments and an 80s-Licious plastic necklace!! I love it! 😍 The last find was these delicate doilies; I actually picked them up due to @beckquarius and the doilies I saw on their stories. Doilies take so much tedious, handcrafted, painstaking work; and they were piled on a big table almost a foot deep. Possibly centuries of work in there!
