SUMMARY: The call to be a Pro Hero has never been a question—not for Katsuki Bakugou, explosive and guarded, nor for Izuku Midoriya, protective and determined, and certainly not for Shouto Todoroki, who’s family legacy hangs over him like a shadow. Years after the War that upended Hero Society, these three men have helped rebuild a path to Pro Heroism for the next generation, tentatively heralding a new era of hope. But there’s danger lurking in this rebuilt world, danger that has the power to rekindle old fears and usher in new resentments, and as the trio branch out to find and end these threats, they each encounter a new challenge along the way—colliding with someone unexpected, and falling in love.

(A Pro Hero x Reader Trilogy; in which falling in love is a random chance all at once chaotic and exhilarating and incredible, for each of the Big Three)

The premise is simple: three heroes, three fics, and three different lives to live. Named for the Katy Perry song, The One That Got Away, the In Another Life trilogy was originally intended to be a series of five stand-alone fics that evolved, fairly quickly, into what we have today: three interconnected stories that let our Reader-inserts move throughout the My Hero Academia world, and eventually find where—and who with—they belong.

Started in 2020 when the manga was still on-going, the fics have diverged from the canon Horikoshi’s given us both in small and large ways. Despite where they separate (and where the fics have to stay faithful to their own canon, now), it’s always been my hope that they read like the love letters they are—to My Hero, to the boys, and to x reader fic at large.

a/n: i had no clue what to do for the follower celebration because i have so many requests sitting in my inbox already from sleepovers. but i decided why not do something fun! first a quick note down below because i'm fucking emotional.

a massive thank you to those who read my works and like them and decided you liked them enough to follow. when i started writing on tumblr way back in 2020 i didn't think i'd hit this point. you guys are amazing and i'm very happy to have my little corner of the internet to spend time hanging out with y'all.

Minhiriath Midway Step up, step in, let's see what you win! Blue Ribbon Exhibition The Prince of Cardolan loves to acknowledge hard work and creativity.  Enter your finest works into the Blue Ribbon Exhibition as an exhibition challenger.  Challengers will compete against others for the title of Best of Cardolan in the categories they enter.  All entries for the Blue Ribbon Exhibition are due by noon on June 1, 2024.

Dappled Dapper Pony Picture Coloring Contest The Dappled Dapper Pony Picture Coloring Contest (D²P²C²) is a very basic coloring contest event. Everyone starts with the same base image, and colors and embellishes their pony in whatever way they choose. 

Dappled Dapper Drabbled Pony Race  The Dappled Dapper Drabbled Pony Race is a team writing event which is being run as part of the Cardolan Carnival, a Back to Middle-earth Month 2024 Event.  For groups of 2 to 6, three races will be run throughout the month.  

Lost Treasures Quest  Part of Back to Middle-earth Month is revisiting works that are already in the world -- old favorites and new discoveries.  For the Lost Treasures Quests, you will be able to choose from leaving new commentary on works posted or written before 2020, making rec lists, working on WIPs (writing or art) that are at least a year old or more, or posting works currently unavailable publicly or at a new archive. 

The Prince of Cardolan's Grand Gala; April 12-14 The Grand Gala is a live event held on Discord.  During the event, winners of the various competitions will be announced (with the exception of the Blue Ribbon Exhibition), games will be played, live readings will occur, and generally, it will be a grand time.

Additionally, B2MEM is an open event where ANYTHING you create during March counts!  Feel free to add works you start, add to, or finish in March to the gallery!  You can also host your own events -- let us know what you're up to, and we'll add your event to the list of festivities!

Timeline of Events

The Midway will open on February 24, 2024. 

The Blue Ribbon Exhibition categories will be posted on March 1, 2024.  Entries are due by noon on June 1, 2024.  Winners will be announced at the Tarnin Austa event. 

The Lost Treasures Quest gameboard will be available no later than Feburary 24, 2024.

The Grand Gala will take place April 12-14, 2024. Cancelled. All activities moved to June. Announcements to follow.

Author's Notes: This collection of drabbles and short stories will fit into the Some Sunny Day series. This series was the start of my fanfic journey with Dean Winchester back in early 2020 and one I hold pretty close to my heart. If you’d like to check out the Dean/OFC series, see the tumblr masterlist or dive into it over on AO3.

I’ll make a note as to where each installment slots into the current series timeline (don’t worry, there’s not that much hopping around) if a reader wants to go back and get a hold of the events before and after.

Spoilers for the uninitiated: My theory on what the ending would be for the boys before the actual series finale occurred. Dean meets his neighbor, Julie, post-hunting life; this is their story. There’s angst and fluff and smut, and supernatural shenanigans thrive in this version.

Thanks to princessmisery666 for getting the ins and outs of @alphabetquest put together! The challenge has inspired me to fill in some of the gaps in my Dean/OFC series, which I’ve wanted to return to in what feels like forever.

No rhyme or reason to my posting schedule. It will be when the mood strikes and real life allows me to post. Hopefully, not too long

But, if any readers missed Julie and Dean as much as I have, I hope this puts a little smile on your face and gives you something to look forward to.

Dean rummaged through the hiding spots in his bedroom, stuffing the most important and dangerous items into his duffel bag.

It’d been a whirlwind of a weekend. Dean hadn’t felt this exhausted down to every single bone and remaining brain cell since… well, he’d been hard pressed to remember the last time. But, that’s what Queen of Hell assisted teleportation and finding out your fiance’s a natural born witch does to a guy.

Far be it for Dean to pass up an opportunity to add even more to the pile. He’d agreed with Julie that it was best to try to keep Sal –his soon to be father in-law who’d been behind all of this mess– close.  

Julie had managed the logistics to uproot her father not even a day after the literal assault of forever-altering revelations. Like his lady needed more trauma to try and process. She’d contacted the property manager about Sal’s Albany apartment and paid the penalty fees for breaking the lease. Then the very impromptu packing of things began after renting a moving truck. Julie did the majority of boxing things up since Sal’s waffling only got worse as the hours ticked away.

She handled things like a champ and a pro. Dean’s emotions bounced between pride and worry, watching her kick into task mode. She took on a mountain of someone else’s problems with ease and simultaneously avoided her own flashing billboard ones. Dean readily identified that coping mechanism. It was Dean’s specialty. Julie, unfortunately, seemed to have a knack for it, too.

There’d been no alone time with Julie since the start of all this moving business. Dean drove back from Albany in Baby, solo. Sal drove the rental truck, and Julie rode a shotgun to ensure that he actually made it to Delaware. Dean didn’t envy Sal's alone time with Julie in that regard.

When they’d pulled up in Dean’s driveway, Julie announced she would bring Sal straight over to her mother’s, who needed to be told everything. Brigida’s ex-husband, who’d kept this family history a secret, wouldn’t be afforded another second of deceit.

So Dean stayed behind to unpack. He didn’t mind the prospect of Sal staying in his house. Dean and Julie had discussed Dean moving in officially mere weeks ago. It made the most sense, especially with the recent proposal. Julie’s house was bigger and would accommodate their combined households of stuff. He just hadn’t expected this mishmash of events and changes so soon. And he didn’t need Sal finding his weapons or anything that might prove blackmail worthy.

Dean sighed at the stack of porn mags taking up a third of his duffel space. “We’re gonna need a bigger boat.” He pulled a backpack out of his closet and continued packing. He could hide the bags in Baby’s trunk for a while. They’d need to get some sort of safe or locking cabinet for his arsenal at Julie’s place. He was confident his Busty Asian Beauties would eventually find a home there. They were collectors items. Julie appreciated quality porn. Dean didn’t want her father rifling through them during his stay. Dean shuddered at the possible desecration.

A good hour ticked by. During that time, Wes appeared in Dean’s driveway, offering to be helpful and peppering in the usual nosey questions. Dean tossed out a quick lie and told Wes he was finally moving some of his things out of storage and into the house.

Dean was not getting on Julie’s bad side again. At least not this soon.

By the second hour, Dean was back at Julie’s. He’d showered, then ate leftovers standing by the kitchen counter.

The third hour had him pacing back and forth in the living room, remote in hand, randomly changing channels. He’d peek through the curtains that covered the sliding doors with every flicker of light. Hope dashed over and over when it wasn’t Julie’s headlights.

He didn’t want to overreact. She was fine. If she needed him, she’d call. This was monumental. He knew Brigida would not take any of this well.

Dean’s phone finally rattled atop the coffee table. He sighed, seeing Cas’ name. “Hey, Cas,” he grumbled.

“Dean. Are you alright?” Cas asked in a hushed tone.

“Yeah.” He waited a few seconds. “Lemme guess? Sam called you.”

“Yes, he told me what happened.” He whispered again. “I’m sorry, Dean.”

“Yeah, well, never a dull moment, right?”

“Life has been rather eventful for all of us lately. I wanted to let you know Julie’s on her way back home.”

“Huh? How do you…”

“Jack and I were visiting Brigida when Julie arrived with her father. Brigida was showing me the correct way to prepare lasagna. I’m planning on cooking for Donna when she visits next week. Brigida informed me it’s sacrilege to use those no-boil pasta noodles.”

“Cas, Jules.” 

“Of course. To say that Brigida was shocked when they walked in would be an understatement. Jack and I were going to leave and give the family some alone time. However, Julie asked us to stay. And then she proceeded to tell her mother everything that transpired in Albany.”

“How did she take it?”

“She slapped Sal, then hugged Julie, sobbing and speaking in Italian during all of it. Julie and I got her to calm down enough to get her up to her bedroom. Jack kept an eye on Sal and the lasagna in the oven.”

“Is Brigida alright?”

“As well as can be expected, finding out her daughter is a natural born witch and her family is on the Grand Coven’s most wanted list. She had her rosary in a death grip while she stroked my hair.”

“So, she’s a mess.” Dean sighed.

“Dean,” Cas’ voice lowered and thrummed in Dean’s ear, “there’s more.”

“Shit. What else?”

“Well, while I stayed with Brigida, Julie went back downstairs to talk to her father. Jack witnessed what happened. He told me they started arguing while Julie tended to the sauce cooling on the stove. Apparently, she pointed a wooden spoon at Sal and it shot like an arrow out of her hand. It missed his head by a few inches. By the time I came down she was cleaning up a mess of splattered tomatoes, apologizing over and over. Her dad tried to console her but she kept saying it was better that he keep his distance. I told her to go home, that Jack and I would watch over Brigida and Sal tonight. Keep Brigida from crying herself sick and keep Sal from running off.”

“What’s gonna stop Julie from running off?” Dean wiped a palm over his mouth. “What makes you think she’s gonna come home?”

“You, Dean.” Cas stated matter of fact. “She’s coming home to you.”

Dean peeked through the curtains again and a shimmer of light washed over the asphalt driveway. Julie’s compact car appeared, rolling into the carport. Dean sighed. “Thanks, Cas. I owe you and Jack big time.”

“This is what family’s for.”

“Just,” Dean pressed, “Keep an eye out on everyone. Your babysitting skills…”

“Have improved,” Cas huffed. “I’ll report back in the morning and if anything happens you’ll get a call right away.”

“Thanks.”

Dean ended the call with one hand and pulled the sliding door open with another. Julie rushed into his space. Arms tunneled under his, wrapping around him like a too tight corset. The bite of cold flooded the living room. He eased the door closed and greeted her with a soothing tone. “Hey, sweetheart.”

She sobbed into his shirt. His hands stroked her back. The cries quieted after some time. Her voice, raspy and weary, sounded small and utterly defeated. “How are you gonna avoid the elephant in the room when I’m the elephant? I can’t handle what’s happening to me. I’m not you. I’m not Sam. .” 

“Sam and I once crashed a gods convention at a hotel. One of them was that elephant dude. You’re a lot cuter.”

“Dean,” Julie whined. “Be serious now.”

“I am. I’m showing you how I’d avoid the elephant in the room. Obvious deflection with inappropriate humor. Cause I’ll be damned” -he cleared his throat- “and let’s not forget that I have. So, I’ll be damned again if I’m gonna let you go through anything even close to what Sam and I went through. Focus on the good things, like you always remind me. I’m choosing to focus on my fiance and her awesomeness.”

“Her uncontrollable witch powers that could harm people she cares about,” Julie added.

“Hey.” Dean pulled back, holding Julie away from him at arm’s length. Red splotches covered her face, puffy from crying. “Maybe you should have a talk with Sam? If you have questions, he’s your best option. I mean, you were interested in learning about this stuff before you found out your family history, right?” Two of his fingers brushed her stray bangs in place with a sweeping gesture. “I’m here for you, sweetheart, but I’m not gonna have those answers.”

She sniffled. “How can you think any of this is a good thing? Now we���ve got my dad living in your house. Mom’s a mess.”

“Pfft. Child’s play. This doesn’t even register as family drama in the Winchester world.”

Julie hugged him again, tight. “I can’t do this without you, Dean,” she mumbled.

He smiled, resting his cheek atop her head. “You’ll never have to,” he whispered.

Most hits: i'd like for you and i to go romancing, which currently has 354,213. this is a very fluffy good omens fic that i posted like the day after season one dropped, and it will baffle me forever to know that this is the most popular thing i will probably ever write in my life. why did it take off the way it has? no idea! probably just the good timing. it scares me daily. but also, i'm glad to spread the love, i guess!

2nd most kudos: the best of it, my rory/paris fake dating opus that took me many years to complete! (god, the inconsistency in the pop culture references ...) it currently has 3,420 kudos.

3rd most comments: i'm ready, i'm willing, which was my post-series succession fic wherein roman and gerri are obstinately in love at connor and willa's alpaca ranch (that's right! alpaca ranch! 🦙) while working through some of their deep-seated psychological issues (but not all of them, because that's impossible!!!). it makes me happy that this is on this list because i think it's my favorite fic project; it was the most challenging and complicated and i think i put the most thought into it of anything i have ever done so far. 284 comment threads. most of the actual comments are definitely me. D:

4th most bookmarks: what it all comes down to, which was my post-s2 good omens fic; it has 497 bookmarks, though many of those appear to be private! sorry for creeping on your secret numbers, bookmarkers.

5th most words: sure as the sea, it's just you and me was my post-s6 grace and frankie fic, and it has 17,912 words. i'm not a super long word count person most of the time, because every sentence that comes out of me does permanent emotional damage. i remember that even trying to finish this fic nearly destroyed me. (though to be fair, it was in the spring of 2020, so: stressful time!) i was soooo miserable over it. i'm one of those writers who's nearly always really upset to be writing. the words do not flow out of me most of the time! it's a matter of FORCE.

Fewest words: i have lots of fanvids that have no words, but my shortest fic is a 100-word dollhouse (dewitt/dominic, of course) drabble called so it's true, the trick is complete. should i try to get back into drabbles again as a writing exercise?? probably! ooh, that sounds fun, actually.

⭐️ Annual Writing Self-Evaluation 2023 ⭐️

I love doing this every year. (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022) I can't believe I've been writing for six years now! I looked through my past annual posts and got a bit emotional, it's amazing to see how much I've grown and changed.

1. Number of stories posted to AO3: 7

2. Word count posted for the year: 11,572

3. Fandoms I wrote for: One Direction, Music RPF (The Snuts)

4. Pairings: Harry Styles/Louis Tomlinson, Louis Tomlinson/Jack Cochrane, Louis Tomlinson/Bodyguard

5. Story with the most: Kudos: No (Birth) Control Bookmarks: No (Birth) Control Comments: Good Dogs Don’t Bark

6. Work I’m most proud of (and why): Chaos is a 100 word drabble that I'm very proud of. I tried for months to write a Louis/Bodyguard fic for the Louis Rare Pair fest and it just wasn't coming together. Putting a hard limit on the word count was a fun little challenge that helped me get the idea down on paper. At first I didn't know if I could build a steamy plot in so few words, but it worked out in the end and I couldn't be happier with it!

7. Work I’m least proud of (and why): Of the stuff posted this year, I'm not unhappy with anything, but if I had to rank everything, chapter 2 of Good Dogs Don’t Bark is at the bottom of the pack. I was in a weird mood writing-wise when I wrote that chapter and it reminds me of that time whenever I think of it.

8. Share or describe a favorite review you received: @allwaswell16 read Chaos on her podcast! I dedicated the drabble to her for inspiring and encouraging me all year when writing has been a struggle, and for being such a supportive mod for @louisrarepairfest!

9. A time when writing was really, really hard: All year! This is the least I've ever written since I started. Life has been full of big changes and it threw off my writing habits. I've also been very stuck in my head about certain aspects of writing that I never used to think twice about. I'm hoping now that life has settled and I've got somewhat of a new routine figured out, I can set some intentions and build up my habit again, because I really miss writing.

10. A scene or character you wrote that surprised you: This scene from Baking Memories made me burst out laughing when it came to me:

Looking down at his six little pies, Louis is starting to feel like a proper baker. Jack finishes up his last and says, “Alright, let’s top ‘em.” “I bet that’s your favourite part,” Louis jokes raising his eyebrows teasingly. “At least these don’t talk back when I’m topping.” “Oi!”

11. A favorite excerpt of your writing: From No (Birth) Control

He picked up another potato. Twisting the paring knife expertly around the spud, the thin brown peel sliced away from the white flesh in smooth, practiced movements. It was easy for Harry to get lost in the meditative efforts of slicing, dicing, and peeling. Just two potatoes remained when Harry caught Louis’ piquant scent through the open window. Harry paused his singing and peeling as he breathed in deeply. His sense of smell was always attuned to his alpha, but this close to heat the pull was even stronger. The back door opened. The scent enveloped him, stronger than the savoury aroma of the roast, as Louis wrapped his arms around Harry’s middle, hugging him from behind. Harry melted back into his touch, forgetting about the half-peeled potato in his hand. “Hi baby.” Louis said, leaning in to drag his nose along the curve of Harry’s neck in tender greeting. “Alpha,” Harry sighed, tension he didn’t know he’d been holding meting away. He could stay like this, content in his alpha’s arms, forever. Louis licked up the side of his neck. The blatant scent marking sent shivers up Harry’s spine, and a light nip of sharp teeth over his bondmark started to make him wet. He would be half-tempted to bend over the counter, if it weren’t for the roast cooking in the oven and the twins playing in the yard. Harry bit back a whimper. “Lou, no,” he groaned. “I need to finish dinner.” With all his resolve, Harry gripped the paring knife tighter and focused his attention on peeling the remaining potatoes.

12. How did you grow as a writer this year: I've learned to be patient with myself. I have a lot of wips that I've started in 2019 or 2020 that aren't even close to being finished. I used to be so frustrated that I couldn't finish them, but now I've learned that sometimes the wip needs to sit in the dark cavern of the drafts folder to age like fine wine.

13. How do you hope to grow next year: I want to be more intentional about setting time to write. I miss having a regular writing time and want to be able to work on some of the exciting ideas I have.

14. Who was your greatest positive influence this year as a writer (could be another writer or beta or cheerleader or muse etc etc): @allwaswell16 and @himynameiszayn are the most supportive friends, they were always around to offer advice, help me think of words, and cheer me on when writing was hard. I don't think I would have written half the amount of words I posted if it wasn't for them.

15. Anything from your real life show up in your writing this year: I listened to The Snuts so much this year after seeing them play during FITFWT, so it was only natural for me to write a fic featuring Jack. I love the silly Christmas video the band shared a few years ago and knew it was perfect idea for the fic that became Baking Memories!

16. Any new wisdom you can share with other writers: I touched on it a bit above, but sometimes taking a pause on a wip you're struggling with is a good thing. Give yourself grace to move on when an idea isn't coming together the way you want. It doesn't mean you need to give up on the story completely, it might just be the wrong time.

17. Any projects you’re looking forward to starting (or finishing) in the new year: I am looking forward to writing something for @wankersday again, and I am getting closer to finishing my alien!Harry fic that's been 5 years in the making!

Starting off with a fic, one of the pieces I'm most proud of is CHRYSALID, a Dragon Age genfic about Cillian from multiplayer:

Chrysalid | Rated: G | Cillian | Chapters: 9/9 Herein the Dalish mage leaves his intended role as First behind and follows a butterfly migration to the Arbor Wilds. I had always wondered how Cillian, a Dragon Age Inquisition Multiplayer character, discovered the path of the Arcane Warrior. I really enjoyed putting myself in some of these settings and atmospheres, and I enjoy re-reading it too!

I did a little series of doodles of some DA ocs wearing academic regalia and Talenna ended up spicy and Neria ended up doing the same pose I did when I graduated: enjoying an elote

4. Something that surprised you (how it turned out, how other liked it, etc.):

TIME TO GET SAPPY.

I started writing Dead Pasts and Dread Futures in 2020 because I needed to survive a huge depressive episode and the feelings of loss and loneliness and grieving over friendship and responsibility at the end of Trespasser really hit home. I was just writing drabbles, and then I was just writing a few chapters, and then I was writing a massive and ever-growing monster of a fic, all by the seat of my pants. In the middle of COVID, and in the middle of PREPARING FOR MY PHD ADVANCEMENT. I wrote over 500,000 words. It launched me head-first into a community that I am still so close with even now. That alone is so shocking to me, since it hasn't happened with any other fandom I've been in or written for, even for my popular Zelda stuff.

But now, years after that fic was COMPLETED, it's still growing and getting comments and I'm blown away by it. I'm not one to obsess over stats but it really boggles my mind.

Okay, since I enjoy finding/buying clothes worn in Thai shows that I watched, I am looking at @dribs-and-drabbles' the Thai Communal Wardrobe as a challenge to find the "real thing" (and buy some for myself since it is almost Christmas 😅). I already found Wardrobe 1 and Wardrobe 2.

Now, I present you: the yellow-soled shoes. Granted, the colours are not identical, but I am pretty sure I have nailed the brand and make based on the photos 😅

Brand: Pull & Bear Casual Street Trainers at $49.95 (women)

For men, brand is the same but the make is tagged as retro trainers. I found one being re-sold on IG back in 2020. However, not sure if the exact shoes are still available.
