Reassuring Kisses
Pairing: Levi x reader
Warnings: mentions of blood, insecurities, sad levi :( fluff at the end tho. Slight spoilers for s4.
Bro he looks so sad
Tumblr media
“Where’s Levi?” You asked Hange with a shake in your voice.
You and the others finally met up with Levi and Hange in the forest after escaping the Jeagerists. You haven’t seen Levi since Zeke was captured and heard rumors of an explosion near their camp.
The crunch of leaves and twigs under your boots caught his attention.
Levi grunted when he leaned up in the cart he was sitting in. He was sheltered away from the others as Hange thought he would rest better with a moment of privacy.
Your breath shuddered when he held up his hand to wave at you, both his pointer and middle finger just mere stubs. “Oh, Levi.”
Your arms wrapped around his neck and you pulled him in a loose hug, being mindful of his injuries. “I’m so glad you’re okay.”
“It’s fine, (y/n).” He said, voice holding no emotion. “It is a setback I’ll be honest, but it doesn’t mean I still can’t kill Zeke when we find him.”
A small shake of your head answered his comment. You gently grabbed his injured hand and studied the bandages. They were tight enough to stop the bleeding, just two small patches of blood on the outside but nothing drastic.
Turning his hand over, you kissed the back of his hand. “Yeah, well… I might beat you to it.” A dry chuckle escaped your lips.
You held up a fresh roll of bandages in your hand. “Hange wanted me to change them for you.”
A sigh left him and he avoided his gaze from your eyes. He didn’t want you to see his wounds. Not yet at least. Almost as if he was ashamed.
Your finger gently ran under his chin, lifting his head up.
“Hey, you’ve been taking care of me for years.” A light kiss was placed on his forehead. “Now it’s my turn to take care of you.”
Your words reassured Levi as he nodded slightly and used his good hand to start unwrapping the bandages. His eyes were locked onto your shirt as you took over, refusing once again to meet your eyes as you finished unwrapping his face. The wounds and cuts on display.
A wave of silence washed over you both as you studied his face.
Levi took your silence as a bad response and sighed. “It’s bad, isn’t it?”
“I mean… for almost getting your face blown off, I think you still look pretty good.” You gave him a small smile and stood in front of him.
Levi still wouldn’t look at you.
Alright, no time for jokes then.
Discarding the soiled bandages, you took his face in your hands very carefully. “You’re still my strong soldier.”
Your eyes ran over the large gashes that ran down his eye, cheek and part of his lips, hastily stitched up by Hange. Poor thing.
Levi seemed to lighten up at your touch, his eyes closing and he leaned into your hand. Your thumb brushed over the edge of his lips, before swiping over his other cheek. “I love you, nothing will ever change that.”
Levi’s hand went up to the back of your head and slightly dug into your roots before pulling you down to him. Lips met gently and the passionate moment of intimacy was what you both needed after an eventful couple days.
“Mm, Levi.” You muttered into his mouth. “I don’t want you to hurt yourself.”
His tongue ran over your bottom lip before his lips suctioned onto yours once more.
“Don’t worry about it.” He grumbled and his hand tightened on your hair, his other arm wrapping around your waist and tugging you closer to him, careful to not put pressure on his injured hand.
Levi shuffled under the blanket before pulling you onto the cart with him, you being positioned between his legs.
After timeless moments of you both being lip-locked, you pulled away. Levi’s grip loosened on your hair, the pads of his fingers smoothening down the tussled tresses.
Levi finally fastened his eyes to yours. A glossy wall in front of his blue irises. He clasped your hand in his and ran his thumb over your knuckles. “I love you.”
Your thumb swiped a fallen tear that trailed below his eye.
“I love you more, Captain.” You smiled before unwrapping the fresh roll of gauze. “Now, let me take care of you.”

We hit 400 followers!! Love you guys T-T 🤎
As promised, a scenario in which Levi has to continually put up with reader’s bratty teasing until he just cant take it anymore-
(trying out some light smut here for the first time :3 key word light, don’t judge)
One thing Levi Ackerman never expected to enjoy was what he would commonly refer to as ‘mushy sappy shit’.
And yet here he was, shooting you a look across the room from where you both sat; his brows drawn up and his lower lip slightly pouted as he gave you what you adoringly called his ‘needy eyes’.
“Y/N?” He tried again, wondering for the nth time if this was what it would take you to come across the room to him, if he dared to speak your name so softly.
“ ‘Y/N’…what?” You’d teasingly chuckle in response. Oh, how you loved to tease him so, if only to watch the way his usual scowl turned into a grumpy pout. He’d rather die than have anyone else see an exchange such as this one, but when it was just the two of you, he’d let your bratty behavior slide in favor of the warmth you would inevitably provide him after you tired of your game.
So he sat patiently, even scooting his chair slightly towards an angle, as though to silently make his pleas for contact more feasible in your eyes.
And goddamnit, how it worked nearly every time. But today, you decided you’d rather have him ask a little nicer before giving in.
“How am I to know just what it is you want, if you won’t directly ask it?” You tried again, biting your lip to hold back a giggle bubbling in your throat. Levi scowled, casting his eyes downward.
If he had to play dirty to get his way, then so be it.
“Y/N, baby…come sit on my lap, please?” He rasped out, shooting you his most convincing look through inky bangs.
It was uncharacteristic, the way he was behaving. But even more so was your reactions; thighs squeezing a little tighter together on the sofa and a soft breath caught in your throat in place of the giggle that had since been smothered out.
Feeling your face tingle with what you could only assume was an inevitable blush, you attempted to clear your throat.
“Sit…sit on your l-lap?” You nearly choked getting the words out of your suddenly dry mouth. In response he only loosed a tired breath before shoving back his chair from his desk to take a stand.
“Fine, have it your way.” He mumbled, stalking across the room towards you. As he approached, you subconsciously scooted back on the couch’s plush seat and held your breath.
“You’ve had your fun; an hour’s worth, as I recall. And I’ve had to sit there and just endure it. Do you know what that does to me?” He snorted a barley there chuckle, looking deeply into your eyes as he leaned against the couch towards your face.
“All I wanted was you to sit with me. Maybe get a kiss, if I were lucky. But I think enough is enough; don’t you, darling?” His tone dropped an octave, husky tone shaking you to the core.
“I-“
“No, sweetheart. You can be quiet now. You’ve won, after all. But…I’ll be taking the prize this time.”
His breathe tickled your neck, nudging your chin to the side with his forehead to allow him further access to the sensitive skin there. Your hands instinctively searched for his, but didn’t make the grasp in time before his slender fingers were already making their way up either side of your thighs towards the loosely tied string keeping your lounge pants up at the waist.
“Levi-“ You gasped out, finding your voice was all but gone.
He groaned softly, lips sucking tenderly at your pulse point.
“Hush, love,” He whispered against your throat, the need in his tone unmistakable.
“Just relax…relax for me.”
Loosening the cravat around his neck, he looses a shaky sigh as his breaths drew in shakier and his lips eagerly made the short journey from your neck towards your jaw, only stopping to worship it for a moment before continuing on.
Oh, how had the roles of your long played game suddenly turned on you. Now it was him, teasing you with barley there kisses along your cheeks, kissing antagonistically close to your lips but never touching. Meanwhile, you couldn’t help your thighs but to squirm against the feather light touches from the pads of his fingers. Before you knew it, the string had come undone from your waistline and fell across your thighs, shortly followed by the thin material of your lounge pant’s waistband.
A broken, shuddery gasp slipped past your lips unbidden, the moment those same tantalizing fingers ghosted over the even thinner material of your briefs, making your hips flinch against the pressure.
You were only briefly distracted by the dry chuckle resonating from Levi’s parted lips now hovering over your own, drawing your attention to the way he panted above your figure with barely contained desire.
“You’ve teased me for weeks. Now it’s my turn darling, so sit back and take it.”

❥ A-Z HEADCANONS: LEVI ACKERMAN
Tumblr media
( A ) AFFECTION — how affectionate are they? how do they show affection?
levi is not excessively nor outwardly affectionate. he prefers to show affection through small, random touches — a hand on the small of your back as you walk, fingers grazing your elbow as he moves past you, resting his face against your shoulder when you’re busy doing something, brushing his thumb over your knuckles as you briefly hold hands. he tends to avoid showing this kind of affection in public.
then there’s the more frequent but not as noticeable affection, the affection that goes beyond skinship — running you a hot bath after a long day without you even having to ask, remembering small details about you that sometimes even you forget, always finding time for you even when he’s up to his neck in work. the longer you’re with him, the more you realise that levi is actually very affectionate, but only you will ever know that about him.
( B ) BEST FRIEND — what would they be like as a best friend? how would the friendship start?
you have to be observant to notice the shift in your friendship and level of closeness with levi. it happens over time, and presents itself in small increments, but once you see it, it changes the way you perceive everything he says and does.
what starts as similar interests and shared habits, a mutual tolerance and eventual enjoyment in the other’s company, turns into meaningful conversations and long hours of just being in one another’s presence. he’s able to curse insults at anyone, but it’s only with those closest to him that his words will be followed by a slight upward tilt of his lip.
( C ) CUDDLES — do they like to cuddle? how would they cuddle?
despite how it may seem, levi is actually quite fond of cuddling. at first, this wasn’t obvious; usually you’re the one to initiate it after all. you thought he only accepted it because he wanted to make you happy, but after some time, you begin picking up on his ‘tells’ — small things that show that he enjoys it as much as you do, like how he’s always quick to interrogate you when you move to get up, or the smile he hides in your neck that he thinks you don’t notice. he also doesn’t seem to have a preference on who’s the big or little spoon, as long as it’s you he’s with.
( D ) DOMESTIC — do they want to settle down? how are they at cooking and cleaning?
eventually, yes. levi would really value domestic life, but it would take a while for him until he feels ready to take that step. as for domestic responsibilities, it’s safe to say you will never see a house cleaner than one that levi ackerman is living in. he’s not nearly as good at cooking as he is cleaning though. i think he would be better than average, but only because he’s naturally detail-oriented and follows instructions to the letter. he’ll get annoyed if his food doesn’t turn out perfect, insisting that it’s the recipe’s fault and not his own since he did everything correctly and it still turned out ‘like absolute horseshit. i’d say it belongs in the trash but i wouldn’t even feed this to the rats. what a fucking abomination’.
( E ) ENDING — if they had to break up with their partner, how would they do it?
the way he does most things: quickly and efficiently. first, he waits until you both have time where you won’t be interrupted or distracted, and then he gets straight to the point. he’s not the type to sugarcoat either. he makes his reasons and feelings clear, but he doesn’t do so to be mean or intentionally hurt you; together or not, you’re still someone he cares about. the situation is uncomfortable for him too and if there was a way not to hurt your feelings at all, he would attempt it, but when it comes to ending a relationship, he sees such efforts as futile. hurt feelings are unavoidable while communication and honesty are what allow relations between people to function and thrive. going by that, he doesn’t see any better way than to just say it how it is.
( F ) FIANCÉ — how do they feel about commitment? how quick would they want to get married?
as with settling, it takes a lot of time. he believes that he struggles with commitment, but it’s actually more like trust that he struggles with, and in reality, he’s a very loyal and committed partner. your relationship never really had an official beginning or established label to commit to, it sort of just grew and developed organically on its own, without either of you meaning for it to blossom as much as it did. there was only ever an unspoken agreement that your relationship was past the point of an average friendship or camaraderie.
marriage is not at the forefront of levi’s mind, nor is it any sort of long-term goal that he aims to achieve. he’s happy as long as you’re happy, but he also isn’t in a rush to make such big decisions that, in his opinion, don’t change much about a relationship. with enough time, he might be eager, but overall, it’s more of a luxury than a necessity in his eyes.
( G ) GENTLE — how gentle are they, both physically and emotionally?
physically, levi is mostly quite gentle with you, constantly conscious of his own strength. sometimes he isn’t, but that’s typically when he’s trying to be more serious or stern.
emotionally, he is harsher, words toughened by his bluntness and logic. you’ve become immune to letting any of it prick you personally though. you know that ultimately, even with all his sharp edges, levi is not only one of the most understanding people you know, but also often right about what he says.
( H ) HUGS — do they like hugs? how often do they do it? what are their hugs like?
levi is not the biggest hugger, preferring other smaller forms of touch and affection, but it makes hugs from him feel special. they come about when you would expect them — when you’re tired or in a low mood, staring at him longingly because there’s nothing more you want than to be in your lover’s arms — but occasionally levi will indulge himself and hug you without warning, wrapping his arms around your middle, pulling you close and nuzzling his cheek into the soft skin between your neck and shoulder, making you smile and ruffle his hair.
when he’s comforting you, his hugs are firm and patient, lasting as long as you need them to, and sometimes come with a few strokes on the back — but when the hug is unexpected, when he’s clinging to you, pliant and yearning, his hugs are soft yet heavy, as if you’re a mirage that might vanish if he lets go.
( I ) I LOVE YOU — how fast do they say the L-word?
even rarer than a hug is saying ‘i love you’. it tends to catch you by surprise when it happens because you’re so used to his ‘show don’t tell’ approach to love. you might be getting ready to part ways for an expedition, exchanging farewells that you’ve said so many times before that you almost don’t notice it when levi adds on three more words than usual. or you might be blinking your eyes open to the dawn, his bare chest against your back and a warm palm on your hip when his lips ghost over your shoulder blade, trail up to your nape and whisper the sentiment into your skin like he wants to leave it there for safekeeping, so you can trace it with your fingertips and think of him in his absence.
( J ) JEALOUSY — how jealous do they get? what do they do when they’re jealous?
though levi likes to think he’s rational and respects that you are your own person, he does have his moments. he only gets jealous a small amount and not often, but he will never admit to even that. he doesn’t really need to, considering you’ve known him long enough to understand how he’s feeling just by looking at him.
his brows pull together, more tightly than normal, and his jaw clenches and unclenches while he debates whether or not it would be worth voicing the vaguely rude remarks in his head. at that point, you always give him a swift squeeze, bringing his attention back to you so you can flash him a small, knowing smile. this never fails to bring him back to his senses, his adam’s apple bobbing and his eyes darting away, embarrassed.
( K ) KISSES — what are their kisses like? where do they like to kiss you? where do they like to be kissed?
most of levi’s kisses are pecks, or short but soft and purposeful. his favourite places to kiss you are your shoulders and neck, particularly so if you’re cuddling. if he’s feeling especially romantic, he’ll press a kiss to your knuckles, palms or wrists too.
his favourite places to be kissed are his cheeks, lips and chest. kisses behind his ears and in his hair will make him nudge you away because they make him flustered, but they’re places he also loves.
( L ) LITTLE ONES — how are they around children?
babies and toddlers are drawn to him, tweens hate him, and teenagers are either afraid of him, respect him or both. levi himself, though, doesn’t have any particularly strong feelings about children, regardless of age. teens are probably the only ones he sort of knows how to speak to, but any younger than that and he’s hopeless. if given the chance, i think he would be quick at learning how to take care of them, and would perhaps even start to see the appeal in having them.
( M ) MORNING — how are mornings spent with them?
mornings with levi tend to be early ones. he likes to be productive with his time, usually rising with the sun, and prefers to make breakfast by himself (whenever you try to help or make it yourself, he always finds a way to critique you). after eating, he’ll shave, wash up, comb his hair, then brew some tea and immediately get started on his duties. on days that he doesn’t have any, he will still wake up early, but he’ll spend his time reading, cleaning or people-watching, sipping away at his tea as the hours roll by.
he doesn’t say nor show it, but he enjoys it a lot when you come and keep him company. whether you rest your head on his lap or just sit in the same room as him doing something else, your presence alone has a large influence on his mood for the day.
( N ) NIGHT — how are nights spent with them?
nighttime is levi’s favourite time of day. it wasn’t always his favourite since he has insomnia, but it’s improved ever since he met you. he’s found that it’s easier to fall and stay asleep with you by his side, tucked into his arm, face pressed into his shoulder or chin on top of his head, your limbs thrown around him like a blanket. he tends to sleep best when he can listen to you talk; when he can let the strain of the day melt away to the sound of your voice and the vibrations in your chest. he is also the most affectionate at night, which gives you something to look forward to at the end of the day.
( O ) OPEN — when would they start revealing things about themselves? do they say everything all at once or wait a while to reveal things slowly?
even to his friends, levi’s past is mostly unknown. he doesn’t like being asked too many questions, especially personal ones, but the key to his padlocked heart is time; eventually, he opens up as easily as if he had never resisted in the first place.
you had always made an effort not to pry too much, so it took you by surprise when one evening, as you held him, stroking his hair, he said something, and then another thing, until the initial shock you felt slipped away and you recognised his words as the secrets that he’d been carrying, keeping close to himself like the blade he learned to use when he was barely in his double digits. he spoke with a characteristic calmness that somehow felt out of place given what he was saying and how long he must have been turning it over on his tongue before this.
it was probably the most vulnerable you have ever seen him, and you still feel a tender pull at your heart when you remember the look on his face. the way that each time he glanced at you, another doubt would fall away because he realised that maybe he was allowed to show his scars to someone other than the cold eyes in his mirror; that even though life is fleeting, denying yourself the chance to at least let someone see you and experience you, the darkest parts of you, all because you might lose them someday, will only make you regret it once they’ve already gone.
( P ) PATIENCE — how easily angered are they?
levi is an orderly and tidy person with a low tolerance for stupidity, but he’s not so easily angered as he is easily annoyed. his patience is immeasurable when it counts, but when it comes to the antics of others, or mildly infuriating things like the sound of someone eating with their mouth open or when something in his desk has been misplaced by a subordinate, it quickly wears thin. he’s not one to snap at people for such things, but that doesn’t mean he won’t grumble and curse or make a harsh retort.
( Q ) QUIZZES — how much would they remember about you? do they remember every little detail you mention in passing or do they kind of forget everything?
everything. levi doesn’t want to forget a single thing; any detail or facial feature or moment spent with you. he’ll often say or do things as a result of something you can’t even remember mentioning to him. it warms your heart and makes you want to try your best to do the same in return, just to see the softness of his eyes and that smile he’s not afraid to show you.
( R ) REMEMBER — what is their favourite moment in your relationship?
when you kissed him for the first time. you were shocked to find that levi was not a good kisser; you’re not entirely sure what exactly gave you the inclination that he was at all particularly experienced — the good looks? the fact he’s naturally talented at most things? — but either way, you couldn’t help smiling into the kiss and pulling away to hold back your laughter. he was eager and probably trying his best, but as endearing as it was, he clearly had no idea what he was doing and it wasn’t getting you anywhere.
“care to share what you find so amusing?” he asked, tilting his head in an attempt to look at your face, which you had turned away so he wouldn’t he see your grin.
you regained your composure, but kept the smile on your face. your fingers reached up, drawing an invisible path across his cheekbone and down the side of his face until you were holding his chin. “you’ve never done this before,” you whispered, “have you, levi?”
it stung his pride, of course it did, but he’s not so insecure that he would lie about it. he swallowed. “no, i haven’t,” he admitted, unable to meet your eyes.
the smile on your face grew as you hummed. “i see,” you said, the hand on his chin moving to brush away some hair from his eyes. “i suppose you could do with some practise then?”
levi’s eyes flickered up and at that moment the tension in his shoulders loosened, the weight of his embarrassment lifting from them. “yeah,” he said with a sigh of relief and a bashful smile. “i would like that.”
since then, he’s improved a lot. he’s a quick learner, which you always sort of knew, but it was a pleasant surprise when you found out that he had also memorised and mastered everything that makes you weak in the knees, almost as if to pay you back for making him so flustered back then.
( S ) SECURITY — how protective are they? how would they protect you? how would they like to be protected?
it’s almost instinctual how protective levi is of both you and his comrades, doing it without thinking, as if it’s not something he needs to think about. he protects you both implicitly and explicitly; before and during threats to your safety are made.
having you protect him is more of a second priority. he thinks it’s selfish, but he just doesn’t know if he could handle being the reason you get hurt — or worse — but when you are the one protecting him, he trusts you entirely. he knows when you’re overestimating yourself, but he also recognises that you’re capable. regardless of your military standing, he will always see the two of you as equals.
( T ) TRY — how much effort would they put into dates, anniversaries, gifts, everyday tasks?
the value of levi’s efforts lies in sentimentality; how much he does for you, both when you’re there and when you’re not, and how his talent for remembering everything about you shines brightest when he’s pressing kisses to that spot you love or perfecting the recipe to your favourite meal. gifts aren’t frequent with levi, and anniversary celebrations even less so, but they’re always sweet and meaningful and perfect.
( U ) UGLY — what would be some bad habits of theirs?
aside from the obvious bluntness and toilet humour, levi has a habit of staring at people. he doesn’t mean to be rude or creepy, he just likes to observe (or in your case admire) others. he also has a less frequent habit of cracking his knuckles when he’s stressed or thinking.
( V ) VANITY — how concerned are they with their looks?
appearance has never particularly been an area of interest nor worry to levi. of course, he prefers to take good care of himself rather than be lazy or let himself go, but he does this more for his own comfort than for the approval of others. frankly, he doesn’t care what opinions people have of his looks — but whenever you compliment him, it makes him feel... weird? he doesn’t really know how to react, he’ll just look at you like, “okay, and?” because he’s not used to being called things like cute or pretty or handsome, much less extravagant terms like gorgeous or beautiful. he’s not opposed to it, but he also doesn’t entirely get it.
( W ) WHOLE — would they feel incomplete without you?
yes. as much as levi would like to think he would be fine on his own, he knows he would be lost without you or his comrades. he already feels as though he has lost a lot of himself along the years, but those he has left in his life make healing and filling those gaps with new memories and love much easier.
( X ) XTRA — a random headcanon for them!
he has somewhat messy cursive-like handwriting. since he grew up in the underground city, he never had any formal education and was illiterate for most of his life. it wasn’t until he joined the survey corps that he learned how to read and write thanks to erwin making some arrangements for him. outside of his tutoring, levi did a lot of independent practise, using old books and texts as reference, which made him develop a strange hybrid of neat yet messy and cursive yet not handwriting, due to the differing styles of the modern day compared to bygone eras.
( Y ) YUCK — what are some things they wouldn’t like, either in general or in a partner?
he doesn’t like arrogance, pretentiousness and when people don’t clean up after themselves, but probably the biggest thing that levi cannot stand in a person is poor hygiene. it evokes such a visceral disgust in him that he can barely keep himself together long enough to spit out whatever obscene or rude insult his mind has supplied him with.
( Z ) ZZZ — what are their sleep habits?
levi tries to maintain a regular sleep schedule, but sometimes he’ll have paperwork that needs to be done before the next day, so he’ll stay up to finish it. he doesn’t really snore or move a lot in his sleep, but if he’s had a particularly tiring day, he’s prone to sleep-talking. he actually sleeps quite peacefully, not counting the occasional nightmare or randomly waking up because of his insomnia. he mostly sleeps on his side and in complete darkness, though he’s able to tolerate dim lighting if you need it.

text convo made by @humanitys-strongest-bamf <3
Your silver sedan sits in the street in front of Levi’s apartment, headlights glowing on the other cars around you. Soft rock plays through the speakers as you drum your fingers on the steering wheel in impatience, the vibrant blue console lights lighting up your face. You had sent him a ‘here!’ which was left on read, meaning he was still up but still nowhere in sight. Maybe he couldn’t find his shoes? No, that wasn’t like him. He has a cubby by the door for them, which he kept immaculate. Just as you were going through other impossible scenarios, there’s a sharp knock on the passenger door that makes you jump. It’s Levi, double fisting two teas in to-go cups as you requested.
“Will you get the door, dumbass? My hands are full.” You hear muffled through the glass. It takes a bit of strain, but you lean over to unlatch the door and push it so Levi can kick it open with the tip of his shoe carefully. The internal lights pop on, blinding you momentarily but when your vision adjusts, you see Levi extending a long-sleeved arm to you with your drink.
“You remembered!” You exclaim, grabbing the warm cup from him so he can place his own down in the cup holder before sliding himself in the seat next to you.
“You asked for it.” He grumbles as he buckles himself in and then stares over at you, deadpan. His eyes widen a bit as he takes in the sight of you. "Is that my sweater?" You were indeed wearing Levi's thick, gray turtleneck. His favorite one, at that. You notice he says nothing about the red puffiness around your eyes.
“Well hello to you too, grumpy.” You smirk over at him as you take a careful sip of your tea, ignoring his question and relishing the flavors that Levi chose. It’s a blend that Levi had made special for you a while back, strong and smooth and a little fruity. Levi wasn’t a fan of it, but you loved it - for more reasons than you wouldn’t dare say.
“I’m not grumpy. And I’ve been looking for that all week. I’ll take it from you by force if I have to.”
“Mmm, kinky.” He scoffs but says nothing, looking away. You shift in your seat so you're facing him, linking your fingers together and resting your chin on them as you stare over at him. He gives you a side-eye, then a scowl.
"I am not driving, forget it." Levi snaps at you.
.
“So, what was it this time?” Levi mutters over to you from the driver’s side. He has the window down, hair wind-swept as he stares out into the very early morning darkness. His index finger taps on the steering wheel to the beat of the song playing in the background.
“Hm?” You don't bother looking over you as you speak. You have your arms placed up on the door with your head resting on them, your face lighting up every couple seconds from the glow of the passing street lights.
“What kept you awake this time?” You think for a moment about how you want to word what made your heart ache today. Even after 17 years of friendship, you still struggle with talking about your feelings with him. An emotional disconnection you’ve had since before you met him so long ago. He understood though and never asked, which is why he sat so patiently while you pieced together your thoughts. Nothing coherent came to mind, though.
“I don't…" You trail off, clearing your throat in discomfort. You bring your hand to your mouth and start chewing on your thumbnail.
"…know how to word it?" Levi finishes for you. As always, he was so good at reading you.
"Look at you finishing my sentences. You know, the whole friend group thinks we're secretly dating. Hange even has a bet."
"Oh yeah? What did shitty-glasses wager on this one?” Levi quips without missing a beat. He rolls to a stop at a four-way and takes this time to give you a full exasperated stare.
"Something about cleaning Miche's and Nanaba's shared apartment if they lost.“ You laugh before taking another sip of your tea. It's sweetened just the way you like it. Levi is great at remembering the little things like that.
“Tch. Then they better start cleaning.” Levi grumbles as he pushes down on the gas pedal gently. Levi didn't press, but you knew the conversation was well from over. He would never tell you, but he always wanted to know what was on your mind, especially when you were this upset. To you, however, he didn't need to. His quick glances at you every other stoplight told you enough how present he is for you, and always would be.
You stick your head out the window and smile at the warm breeze against your face. When you stare up at the sky, your vision is filled with pale stars and a bright moon. A couple clouds float by, lit up from the moonlight. It really is a perfect right for a drive.
"Do we have a destination in mind?" He turns the volume dial up a bit, the same soft rock from before now at a moderate level. You wouldn't mind it being louder, but with Levi's question now lingering in the air, skull shaking volume would have to wait.
"I don't, actually. I was hoping you’d just drive and see where it takes us." You give him a huge grin and a finger gun, and Levi just snorts in response.
"Alright then. Let's see where this takes us."
.
Around an hour and half later, Levi and you find yourselves still in the car on a gentle incline. You have no idea where Levi was taking you but now with the faint light of the early morning, you can see you're somewhere with lots of trees. Both of you are far from tired, disposable cups now empty. You’ve been staring at Levi for the last ten minutes with glazed eyes as your mind wanders. His voice snaps you back.
“Before you say anything about the eye bags, just know you’re part of the problem.” He says dryly with pursed lips.
“Pfft, your sleep problems are yours and yours alone.” You roll your eyes at that, but you can’t hold back your smile. The car slows down before turning off on a dirt path to your left. It’s still quite dark from the canopy of leaves above, so your view is limited to what the headlights illuminate.
“Oh, is this the day? You’re finally going to murder me and dispose of my body in the forest where it belongs?? What is it, head bludgeoning or a gunshot?” You feign an excited tone, wide eyes and toothy grin to accentuate it.
“Trust me. When I get rid of you, it’ll be much more thrilling than either of those.”
“Boo.” You stick your tongue out and pout.
Levi rolls the car down the path slowly, keeping his eye out for anything that might be in the way. It was relatively safe with only fallen leaves and small twigs littering the road. There’s a light at the end of it and after a moment, the car breaks through and then Levi puts the car in park. Your breath is taken away in a mere second.
You unfasten your seat belt and throw yourself out of the car quickly. Not bothering to shut the door behind you, you run over to the edge of the cliff that you find yourself on. You’re not sure how high up you are but it’s a considerable distance because the trees that litter the valley beneath you are quite small. It’s all green, broken up by a wide river that you suspect is the very same one that cuts through town. A layer of low fog weaves through the whole valley, and you imagine how pretty the morning dew must be from it. On the horizon, you see the beginning of pinks and oranges start to paint the sky. The sun is about to break.
Raising your hands above your head, you scream with exhilaration. A warm gust of wind blows against your face, throwing your hair back and tangling in the breeze. This was the most beautiful sight you’ve ever seen, you think.
“Levi Ackerman, you jerk! How could you keep something like this from me!?” You yell as you turn around quickly, meeting his stormy gray eyes. He’s staring at you with a lopsided smile while he leans against the driver’s side door, arms and legs crossed.
“I can’t let you in on all of my secrets. That’s just not fair.” He shrugs with nonchalance.
“Does almost two decades of friendship mean nothing to you?” You smirk over at him.
Levi makes his way to the hood of the car and sits back on it, patting the spot next to him for you. You raise your eyebrow at him but amble over to him anyways before pulling yourself up as well. Your legs curl up under you as you cross them, noting the metal underneath you bending more than you’d like. Whatever, your car is on its last leg anyways.
You both sit in silence for a moment. Birds chirp and sing behind you in the trees, the rustling of the leaves signifies the start of their early morning routines. The sun still hasn’t made an appearance, and you gauge it’ll probably be another fifteen or so minutes until it wakes up for the day.
“So. What happened?” Levi pipes up next to you. When you twist your head to look at him, you notice a softness in his eyes; a look he reserves for when it’s just you and him. Pulling your legs up to your chest, you rest your cheek against your knee as you continue to watch Levi.
“My mother called me again.” You frown a little, now matching the one Levi points your way.
“You answered, didn’t you?”
“Yeah. I told myself not to but then I got worried that maybe something happened. So, I picked it up. It started off okay…” You trail off as you reposition your head so that you are now resting your chin in the crook of where your knees met. The oranges and pinks glow brighter with every passing second.
“What did she say this time?” he asks gently.
“Oh, the usual. ‘You know how I feel about quitters’ and ‘it makes me sad to see your wasted potential’ then ended it with something along the lines of ‘being selfish’.” You laugh sardonically at that, heavy bitterness seeping into your tone.
“You know better than to-“
“Than to answer I know.” You snap. You continue to stare at an invisible airplane in the distance. The wind starts stinging your eyes, or was it tears? You blink hard to get whatever it was out.
“- than to believe any of that shit.” Levi retorts. He shifts next to you, the groaning of the metal underneath you both breaking up the momentary silence.
“I know, and it’s just so frustrating that it still gets under my skin. It’s been years since I’ve left. You’d think I’d be over it by now.” Your voice gives you away with a crack. You sniffle and rub your eyes with the sleeves of Levi’s sweater. Your tears leave dark marks against the gray. Levi mumbles your name, and you sit up and turn your head back to him. He just stares at you with his lips parted, thinking of what he wanted to say.
“Healing isn’t linear, nor is it clean. It’s going to have its moments where you feel like you’re falling back and it’s becoming too loud and chaotic. But you are healing, you need to be patient with yourself.” He says over to you gently, before bumping against your shoulder with his own affectionately. He’s a lot closer than you thought he was. “And don’t answer her calls anymore.” You continue to stare at him, this time in wonder.
“Hey Levi?” You ask softly.
“Hm?”
“You know you’re my best friend, right?”
This time Levi stares at you, but with what you’re not sure. You don’t get a moment to think as Levi leans into you, slowly. His lips linger across from yours, as if waiting for you to pull away. You don’t. Pushing yourself into him, your lips meet his and they’re so soft against yours. It starts off gentle, but then the kiss deepens as he moves his arm in a way to hold you closer to him. He tastes like bitter tea leaves and sweet honey. The sun breaks over the horizon, pale yellow now lighting up the surroundings.
When you both pull away, you notice a pink flush burning into his cheeks as he stares over at you. A laugh escapes you, loud and chest deep. A small smile tugs at his lips as he watches you. The way the early morning sun hits his face, you want it ingrained in your brain.
You grab his shirt and pull him back into another kiss, smiling into it as you do.
“Don’t tell Hange, I still want to watch them clean.” Levi mumbles against your mouth.
This moment, right here. You wanted to stay forever, you think.

features: levi ackerman x gn!reader | WC: 3400
summary: due to many personal events, and events happening around you, you had started feeling wary of committing yourself to a relationship, until you met a certain someone.
warnings: dark content pretty much (so minors DNI), mention of abusive relationships, molestation attempts, divorce, death, trauma, injuries, self- indulgent AF, spoilers if you have not watched the anime or the OVA “No Regrets”
a/n: I’m backkkkk! Also, a belated happy birthday to humanity’s strongest soldier (it was on the 25th)!! yes yes i’m very late in posting but, i’m glad i’m getting this out fnfndndnd. i first saw him in a fanart reel, after which i learned that some of my friends were watching it. then, when i started watching, what got me attracted to him, was not his looks, not his battle skills, not the laurels he’s achieved, but the way he’s learned from his childhood and has become stronger in his mind. this chapter is based on a real-life experience i’m going through and writing about it keeping levi in mind really helped me. also i am crossposting this from quotev.

It was just another day where you were undergoing training as a part of the Special Operations Squad of the Survey Corps under the leadership of Commander Erwin Smith and Squad Captain Levi Ackerman. All of you were preparing for the closing of Wall Rose with the secret weapon: Eren Yeager, in his Titan form. Unexpected, right?
When you lived in Shiganshina inside the Wall Maria in the past, you had become friends with Eren Yeager, Mikasa Ackerman, and Armin Arlert despite being 11 years older than them. You considered them to be your children and treasured them. Aside from being intelligent like Armin, brave like Eren, and skilled like Mikasa, you were also extroverted. It was clear that you did not hold back when it came to expressing your feelings. Your goal, like Armin’s, was to discover what life was like outside the walls. In your mind, this desire was a way to escape the harsh reality of your family situation.
Having just started living in Shiganshina after moving from The Underground, your father started working in the coal trading business, your mother teaching history in one of the best schools in the Stohess District of Wall Sina, and your sister was a professional artist despite having undergone physical abuse from her previous marriage, the life you were living wasn’t a bed full of roses, but you liked to think it was because you could have it all, being the youngest child.
There was one thing that kept bugging you, however. If you were to marry in the future, would your marriage last? In a world where your life could disappear in the blink of an eye, and you could lose people far sooner than you think, what’s to say that you’d be able to live a happy life with someone you loved?
Tumblr media
Despite your parents’ disagreements, they eventually made up and became a stronger couple, but the experience still caused you to wince at confrontations in relationships. Also, because you lived in The Underground, you were subject to mockery from the elite, and different merchants frequently attempted to molest you, but you kicked them in their sensitive areas and ran, unaware they were looking for you, only to be killed the next day. Although you were compassionate with everyone, these thoughts clouded your head, making it difficult for you to fall in love.
You didn’t have time to think of anything else though, because you witnessed Carla Yaeger being eaten alive by the Smiling Titan, as Hannes, one of the unit captains of the Garrison, dragged you along with Eren and Mikasa. It broke your heart to lose Carla, who you were close to because you were neighbors. But you ran back to the houses, leaving Hannes’ hand, to check on your family, who were in danger, except for your mother who was in Wall Sina, but she called to check in on all of you. You seemed to have lost your father, as you didn’t know where he was.
Your sister’s feet and hands were crushed by the crumbling walls, so you called Hannes, who introduced you to Rico Brzenska, one of the Garrison's team leaders, who led you to Grisha Yeager, Eren's father, who was a doctor. While he treated your sister’s wounds, he was unable to save her feet and certain fingers. In addition to bandaging them and giving her some medical supplies that would have normally been expensive for free, Grisha advised her to move to Wall Sina to be with her mother so she could recover more quickly. Despite your sister’s concern, you promised her that you would fight for your family’s safety, and that you would find your father's location, and you kissed your sister goodbye, telling her you would see her later.
Tumblr media
Like Eren, you joined the Survey Corps to kill every one of the Titans, but you somehow had a hunch before that the Titans seemed humanlike so killing them mercilessly wouldn’t make sense, so you’d search around for the meaning behind the deaths of many. Having joined the Special Operations Squad of the 104th Survey Corps, you were amongst the quickest to learn, and you had the natural leadership skills, having later earned the trust of Erwin Smith, the Commander, and Levi Ackerman, the Squad Captain.
You were also good at cooking, making sure that Sasha Blouse, one of your fellow cadets, got her first serving so that she wouldn't go hungry, and you were quick to control the commotion despite being one of the loudest. There was also something else that you made sure of. You told everyone to clean your quarters, telling them there’d be surprise inspections from the leadership team (usually just a lie to make sure the rooms were clean), failing which they’d receive punishment from the captain, and you’d have to keep an eye out for the troublemakers, Sasha, Connie Springer, and Jean Kirstein, to do their job well, even bribing Sasha with a delicious meal once she was done.
And the best part? You were hoping to catch Levi’s attention, not that you were doing all of this for him. It was your hope that he'd notice you at all, not only on a professional level, but also on a personal level, since you developed an infatuation for him when you saw him for the first time coming back from the 56th Expedition.
While everyone was looking at the Corps in awe and some with disgust when you first looked at Levi’s eyes, you saw pain, and your heart reached out to him. You saw him turn to you, noticing that you looked at him differently, with warmth in your eyes, and he left a small smile at you, indirectly thanking you for understanding him for what he was going through.
Even though you were a cadet, you were close with Levi, Erwin, and Hange Zoë, one of the other Squad Leaders, having been able to tame your fellow soldiers and an innate desire to learn about the secrets like Erwin, to research stuff and be a crackhead like Hange, and mature and understanding like Levi. Like Levi, you had your fair share of a high number of solo kills. That was only because the need to kill the Titans drove you as they endangered your family and killed Carla and, later on, Grisha. You later learn that another Titan killed your father, but had sent multiple letters to your family in Wall Sina, leaving them with provisions and fortune enough to carry forward with their lives.
The trust earned made Erwin promote you to a fellow Squad Captain along with Levi, who honestly was very delighted. He seemed to have an infatuation for you the moment he first saw you when he was coming back from the expedition, and even though you hung out with Hange a lot, researching the reason for the existence of the Titans, whenever she’d go overboard, you knew when to control her, reminding her to not put other soldiers’ lives at risk, causing Levi’s feelings to deepen over time. Although there was something that he could never understand about you. Why was it that, despite you being friendly with everyone, you looked like you had skeletons in your closet? Levi could trust you, so why couldn’t you trust him?
Tumblr media
All those doubts were going to go away, when in the evening after the training session, you called Levi and told him to come to the rooftop of their headquarters for some tea. At nightfall, you were closing your eyes, praying to a God different from that of the Wallists, asking him to help you lay down the walls in your heart and open up to Levi, when you hear someone clearing their throat, revealing themselves to be Levi. He noticed that you’d prepared black tea for him, especially because he liked it. You also told him you liked your black tea with milk because that’s what you grew up drinking. That’s when you heard the most annoying response from Levi.
Levi snickers, clicking his tongue, “Tch. Black tea with milk. Why do you have to be so annoying with tea?” You respond, “Excuse me,” and playfully hit his arm. “It’s the one thing my parents loved to drink growing up. My father used to tell me stories of who he was before being sentenced to the Underground.” Levi, perplexed, inquired further, “What do you mean, who he was?” You responded, “My father’s not an Eldian by birth, but by marriage to my mother. He was not from Marley, either. He was somewhere from the Oriental.” Raising an eyebrow, he questioned, “Was he a part of the Azumabito clan?” You nervously chuckle, “Oh, no-no. But he lived nearby. That’s where he grew up drinking black tea with milk and now, I can’t drink it any other way.” You gave a soft smile, remembering the laughter that echoed in your house, only to now have been a distant memory. “Oh, boy,” Levi shook his head in disappointment. He saw you looking at the moon with sad eyes, and while with one hand, he was drinking tea, he put his other hand on yours. You left him a small smile, holding his hands after some time.
A comfortable silence lingered between the two of you, which he broke by inquiring, “You miss them?” “Hmm?” Breaking out of your reverie, you turned to him, causing him to question, “Your family. Do you miss them?” Sighing, you respond, “Yes, Levi. I do. My mother and my sister are all I’ve got. I was closer to my father, though. His demise is still hurting me.” As Levi came a bit closer, he put his head on your lap, with his face turned to you, and said, “Well, I never had a father, per se. But I miss my mother. She may have done a lot of wrong things, but I’m grateful that she gave birth to me.” You then put the tea set to a side, subconsciously patting Levi’s head and then humming a tune that you grew up listening to.
“Are you, are you comin’ to the tree
Where I told you to run so we’d both be free?
Strange things did happen here, no stranger would it be
If we met at midnight in the hanging tree..”
You were ruffling Levi’s hair and humming in the presence of a full moon. You didn’t know why you were feeling this way for him. What started as an infatuation developed into a sense of respect and, eventually, love for him. While you were jealous of Petra following him around, you knew that his eyes were on you alone. You constantly worried about his safety, especially whether he’d make it back to you or not after every expedition, and whenever he came back, he would give you a pat on his head with a soft smile telling you, “I told you I’ll be back.”
In the blink of an eye, Levi felt something damp on his cheeks, and when he turned around, he saw you crying and looking at the moon. “Oi, brat,” he said as he turned his head to look up at you while his head was still lying on your lap. “Did some dust fall into your eyes or something? Your eyes are watering.” You attempt to wipe the tears from the corner of your eye, when you snapped jokingly, “Shut up, Levi. Sometimes you can be dense, you know.” Scoffing, he responded, “Me? Dense? Huh, please. All I was trying to do was lighten the mood." Levi and you softly smile at each other, as the soft wind blowing against your faces felt so calming when it was just the two of you. The squad captain then broke the silence by speaking to you softly, “What’s up, brat? Please talk to me.” You continue to tear up while silently holding his hands and looking at the moon. “I’m scared, Levi.” With a confused glance, he inquired, “Of what?”
You sighed and then responded, “Losing people. Letting them enter my life, only to lose them again. I don’t think it’s an extroverted or introverted thing at all. It’s just, the feeling is scary. I’m ready to give up my life if it means saving my family, my close friends,” then looking at Levi, “or you. You mean a lot, you know?” Levi’s eyes widened. He didn’t think that you felt strongly for anyone, let alone him. “Levi, I-”
“Shh,” he places a finger on your lips, interrupting you. He then gets up, with his back facing the moon and him facing you, and after wiping the tears off your face, he holds your hands, sighing. “I fear letting people in as well, brat, only to lose them, too. When Kenny abandoned me, that’s when I thought I wasn’t good enough. For anyone. For my mother, for Kenny, Farlan, Isabel, Erwin, Hange, or-”
“Me?” you completed his sentence, looking into Levi’s eyes, as he was stunned by the fact that you remembered. “I remember you telling me about how Farlan and Isabel passed away. It must have been really heartbreaking.” For a moment, he looked down on the ground and shook his head in dejection. “You do not know how I felt, (Y/N). It seemed like a wave of anger consumed me when I saw them. They were all I had. They made me feel special. Now, Erwin does, and you do, but I fear losing you more than Erwin. Is it wrong for me to feel this way?” You then cup his cheeks with your hands and tell him, “crazy, yes. But wrong, I’m not sure. I fear letting you in, even though I’m so irrevocably in..”
“Love with me? So am I, with you, I mean.” Levi’s confession shocks you, this was not how you expected the conversation to go. “I mean it, brat. Yes, you’re loud, you can be obnoxious, you’re like Four Eyes,” he rolled his eyes, causing you to giggle a bit, and he softly smiles, “but I adore you more, for many reasons. You’re unafraid to call out on people’s actions, although you’re close to Eren, Mikasa, and Armin and you feel the need to protect them, yet you choose me over them if I’m saying something that makes sense. But…” You sensed that he was going to ask you something so you completed it for him, “But? If this is about me not talking about my past, it’s not that I don’t want to talk about it. I just find it futile to relive the hurt, the pain, the creepy touches…” As you shudder in fear reminiscing the painful memories, the calmness in his eyes turned to anger as he pressed your hand hard as if he was going to crush it. “Did those bastards at The Underground try to…”
“Take advantage of me?” You nodded, “Yes. But I’d kick them and run away, only to find them being killed the next day instead. I still don’t know who did so, but I wanna thank them, you know?” Levi threw a knowing smile, not just because he noticed you seemed freer than before, but that you were finally going to learn the truth. “You can thank me for sure. I didn’t know that you were the one these merchants were hurting, but when I learned of the news, I felt I should take justice in my hands, and so I stole from them before killing them.” You were shocked and didn’t know what to say. Appalled at the lengths Levi went to protect people, it scared you he may turn into a ruthless soldier devoid of any feelings if he killed those merchants.
You got up off the ledge of the roof, walking back, carefully passing the tea set beside you, and Levi was walking towards you, then looking at the tea set, with a surprised gaze, as if he’s seen the set somewhere before. He then was told to sit down and you continued to talk to him while he was looking at the tea set. “Levi, I remember meeting your mum around the time my family was in The Underground not knowing you were her son. She was very kind to me, and always brought me food to eat despite her having gone hungry on a couple of occasions. She may have looked sickly, but she’d sworn to look after you in any way possible. It was sad that what job she ended up taking was one of the most painful jobs ever. She’d given me this tea set to hold on to and said to give it to her son when he ends up getting to know me. Was your mother’s name Kuchel by any chance?”
Tears streamed down his cheeks, realizing that his mother will always be with him no matter what. Levi then looks at you and nods his head in agreement. You then hold his hands and talk to him, “Oh poor Levi. I’m so sorry for all the pain you went through. Both of us have had different backgrounds, but the pain is pain. It hurts the same no matter what.” He agreed with you, heaving a sigh of relief knowing that there was someone out there who loved him despite him carrying all this baggage.  “You know something? I’m afraid of committing myself to someone. What if they just love me for how I look and not for who I am? What if they just love me for how I perform in the training and in the battle and nothing more? What if I’m not good enough for them?”
Levi again places a finger on your lips, giving you permission to wipe his tears off his cheeks. He then cups your cheeks with his hands, brings them forwards, and gently kisses you. You can tell that he’s been wanting to kiss you, wantonly for eons now, but he’s taking his time, enveloping your lips with his, expressing his sheer love and desire to be with you, regardless of what the circumstances may seem. After what seemed like an eternity, both of you pull back and press your foreheads against each other, where Levi confesses, “why don’t you get it? You’re good enough for me. You don’t have to reveal everything about your life to me right now, but when I’m with you, I feel like I’ve known you for ages. I want you. I don’t say it all, because I’m scared of my feelings, but with you, it feels easy. I want you, brat. I’m so in love with you, that I need you to be by my side when we’re fighting the Titans. I’ve always been a loner, but ever since I met you, I don’t ever want to be alone again.”
Those gray eyes conveyed a level of honesty you hadn't seen for quite some time. Your mind raced as you tried to recall the last time someone expressed their love to you. His words seemed like a balm to the aching wounds of your heart. “Levi,” you softly called out, as he held your right hand and his other hand cupped your left cheek. “I’m not perfect. I’m not done going back to my family yet. I’m not done avenging my father’s demise yet. I can’t do this alone. If you really do love me…”
“(Y/N),” he softly calls out to you, “nothing’s going to stop me from loving you the way you are. I understand there are walls around your heart and I have them too. But, we’re going to have to work together to overcome them. I… love you. I hope you know that. Now that I know that you love me too, I’m going to tell you and show you all the more. Okay?” Both of you then end up in a warm embrace, for somewhere longer than twenty seconds, which, according to science, was enough, to build trust between the people hugging. You may have not known what the future brought, but you were certain that it brought with you someone that you’d hold close with all your might and that you’d give your best to not let him out of your sight. That’s when you decided to let him in your heart by saying, “Okay, my love.”

Late Night Talking

Tumblr media
Life is normal. It’s scripted, and it works for you. You have consistently arrived at the office, a few minutes after your assigned opening time. You always stop to buy the customary, excessively pricey coffee from your usual shop. You work extra hours because you can. By the end of the day, your hair is mussed and you're slumping against your seat because, once again, you can.
That is until, Levi Ackerman gets transferred to your department, and suddenly you’re a little on edge. You now have a hot flask of homemade coffee that sits beside your computer. You straighten your posture, hair slicked back, a soft glow on your face as your eyes linger on his back as he walks past you.
A filter disappears as you become aware that you have ignored the deadline you have an hour to submit. You sigh and slump against your chair after he leaves, taking a few breaths before your clammy hands race to complete the assignment at hand, and it's all because you were too enamoured with Levi and his attractive back. What a nuisance.
Your jobs hardly ever overlap, so you rarely come across each other at work. You find that he’s less of a nuisance than you had believed during the first few days. You would even say you looked forward to running into him sparingly, if only for the lingering touch of his fingertips when he handed you something. You like to think it’s intentional.
You occasionally do have to work with him, and when you do, you catch yourself staring at the quirks at the corner of his mouth. As a result, you get a mouthful from him for being distracted. You’re upset, and you realize how that was on you but did he have to publicly call you out like that?
You couldn’t face your coworkers after that, so you head straight to the exit after packing up. He catches up to you through, he’s fast after all. The two of you walk home with an uncomfortable cloud looming over you that evening.
It slowly dissipates when his hand inches towards yours when you reach the front of your house. He secures it in his own to stop you from walking in. It reads as an apology for being stressed out, for being harsh.
You rub your thumb against the top of his hand, and it reads as an “It’ll be okay as long as you make it up to me.”
He leaves you there and you walk into your house. Moments pass and he later knocks on your door holding a bunch of snacks and you two enjoy them from the comfort of your sofa.
Months pass by, alongside a slew of late-night talks and work trips, and you think you’re closer at work, but not quite. You’re okay with that. People deem him as your work wife now, noticing how he walks you home every evening, drops you home from work trips, not so silently helping the other at work, and they all want to know if you’re in a relationship or plan to get into one. The two of you deny it expertly.
Until one evening, when you find it hard to keep it in. You’re exhausted after a long day at work that involved a lot more socializing than you had prepared for.
Hange with their ever-exuberant attitude plops herself on the chair next to you, babbles away about how they knows something and you want to skip past the “Guess” part of “Guess what?”
They inform you that they believe Levi will propose to his girlfriend after discovering a ring case in the compartment of his car, and you are caught off guard by the emergence of immediate emotions within you.
You manage to keep a neutral expression on your face as you rush to the bathroom, overwhelmed as you splash some water on your face.
Three months later, everyone is talking about it because he briefly told Hange about his beautiful fiancée, which is unlike him, but people do unlikely things when they are in love, and drunk.
You’re about to leave for home, promptly this time, before you’re caught by a swarm of your coworkers. “Come on, tell us! You must know who Levi’s fiancée is. You guys are so close,” their words drag painfully against the throbbing in your skull.
You don't mean to come across as snippy, but you wanted to get out of there as soon as you could, so you tell them to ask Levi himself.
That night, you walk home alone, your bag dangling from your tired shoulder.
You enter the foyer of your home where it's warm, letting your keys dangle on the key holder mounted to the wall. Your eyes are tired, your hair is mussed, and your shoulders feel heavy on you. You wonder if you should have taken the day off.
You’re expecting a “I told you so,” when you feel his arms engulfing you in his warmth.
"Hi," you sigh as you card your fingers through his ruffled hair and bury your face in the crevice of his soft neck. You're about to leave a peck, but he moves away, leaving you gasping as he picks you into his arms, bridal-style. Your bag is abandoned in the silent foyer as he carries you to the bathroom.
Your gaze lands on the prepared bathtub, which already has a bath bomb and some petals in it. Your drowsy face lights up at the gesture.
"Come on, Levi, strip with me," you tease, knowing there will be no more teasing tonight, both of you tired and wanting to sleep.
After that, it’s comfortably silent when you get undressed with him. Your clothes fall next to his into a heap on the floor, as you motion for him to enter the bathtub first. You gladly position yourself in front of him.
His hands loop around you, gently drawing you closer until you're mushed up against his chest. You've come to realize that he keeps your body tethered to his own as a form of comfort. You're not the only one who needs comfort tonight, so make a note to make dinner tonight.
"I slept in today, you must have missed coffee today," he breaks the silence.
"I bought some," you say, sheepishly. He tuts in light-hearted disappointment.
"I think everyone’s catching on," you say, reaching back to pat his cheek. There is a soft hum that vibrates against your body, it sounds like agreement.
"You're telling me they missed all your innuendos and the stares but are catching on because of me?" he exasperatedly asks.
“Two years and our cover’s blown because Levi Ackerman couldn’t shut up about his beautiful beautiful fiancée.” You bashfully chew on the inside of your cheek, considering he was the one who wanted to keep it a secret in the first place.
You stew in the silence for a little longer, drifting in and out of a sleepy daze, and you think you may have to settle for ordered food. You turn back slowly so as to not disturb him, and you notice his drooping eyes enclosing, taking that as a sign to wash up.
You’re about to get up when his arms pull you back in. “Stay for a bit,” he says, his breath fanning against your neck.
You agree, a soft "Okay" leaving your slips, as you easily slip back into your sleepy daze. He looks down at your half-sleeping figure and rests his chin on the crown of your head.
The softly nudged open window allows the night air to drift over your figures, enveloping you in its warmth.

You were always a bright student. The top of your class, the favorite student for almost every  teacher, the brightest star amongst your classmates. So why the fuck are you staring at a B- on your midterm paper? The letter was bright red and almost mocking you with the circle around it only amplifying it. Red pen littered the paper, with the smallest mistake being called out. The sound of the professor's voice pulled you from your shock.
"If you think I graded you unfairly, see me during my office hours. Even if I end up finding more mistakes, I'll only change your grade if you get a higher one." Your eyes were full of venom as you scowled at him. Professor Levi Ackerman was the current bane of your existence. He must make up for his lack of height in his abundance of audacity, you thought. To think you looked up to him, enough to come to this college to be under his tutelage. All of those expectations you had of him being a passionate and wonderful teacher and mentor were shattered the moment you got that B- back. It felt more like he was a bully, or even a tyrant, seeming to mess with his student’s grade to exert his power over them. You let out a silent scoff and gathered your papers as he immediately dismissed class. Going back to your dorm, your roommates could feel the frustration rolling off of you, a thick aura weighing down on anyone around you. This was your freshman year of college, and the college history course you took in high school was a breeze, so why were you struggling now? You vented out to Annie, one of your roommates, and she sighed.
"He's the head of the history department. It practically gives him immunity because he wrecks GPAs. I have no idea as to  how many students’ 4.0 or near 4.0 GPAs he tanked. The only people that literally have it easy are the people in the intro classes, or people who aren't in the major but are taking the class as an elective." Another roommate, Sasha piped up.
"Yeah and he doesn't accept late submissions at all. I submitted an assignment a half an hour late, and he wouldn't accept it. Like, unless you give a valid excuse with documentation, or accommodations, he won't accept it. I heard some girl broke her wrist and he didn't accept her late assignment without a letter from the hospital."
"She gave him the letter though," Annie replied, knowing that story all too well. The girl was an ex of hers.
"Yeah, but the grades were already submitted, so she missed the deadline. And for her final too."
"Sasha, you realize that she waited till the last second to turn in the paperwork, right? Do you remember when Ymir broke her arm and Professor Ackerman literally recorded his lectures for her and gave her handwritten notes? He's not mean, he just punishes procrastinators."
"Well, he's punishing me!” You shrug your shoulders in exasperation, as you continue, “I turned in my paper early and quadruple-checked it. But still, a B-!" Annie and Sasha stared at you in shock.
"A B-? Damn he must hate you." You glared daggers at Sasha while Annie punched her arm.
"Sasha, shut the fuck up." Sasha whined and you stormed into your room, biding your time until his office hours opened. The moment that time came around, you walked with a purpose, your anger almost coming to a head. A path was practically cleared for you, everyone trying to avoid your wrath. As you approached his door, you saw his name plated in bronze almost mocking you. You took a deep breath and knocked on his door. A quiet "come in" sounded from the door, and you opened the door, stepping into an office that looked like it was out of a magazine. Everything was so pristine, and almost too clean, and he sat at his desk, staring at you intently over a book.
"I suggest you start speaking since you clearly came here for something." You wanted to roll your eyes, but you held it in.
"Good afternoon professor. I wanted to see you about my midterm paper."
"Let me see it." You handed him the paper and he looked over it.
"I think the B- is a bit harsh." Levi scoffed.
"Y/N L/N. Your name has been running around the department as the star student. That reputation won't save you in my class. If you want a good grade, you have to earn it. It’s because that my fellow professors think highly of you, that I'm going to hold you to a higher standard than your classmates. So, either you're going to shine brighter than your classmates or fizzle out. But I'm not going to take it easy on you." You stared at him in astonishment.
"Why?"
"I've seen so many students cruise on their reputation and so, professors baby them. But that'll not be the case in my classes. I'm being upfront with you right now, so either you can either change majors, and avoid me as a professor as best as you can, or fight." He handed you your paper back and you made your way back to your dorm, your resolve building with each step you took. You were going to fight.
For the next three years, you took numerous classes with him, always going to him to double check your papers before submitting them. With how often you saw him, you both became closer, not only building a strong professional relationship, but a budding crush also grew simultaneously. Levi was an amazing professor, an extremely strict one, but you learned that if you asked for help, he'll give it to you, although he'd be grumpy about it the entire time.
Before you knew it, it was the weekend of graduation. Your finals were done and over with, and now it was time to celebrate. On Saturday morning, you woke up to an email from Professor Ackerman, asking to see you in his office. Your heart skipped a beat and you put in a little more effort than you should have in getting ready, but you're probably never going to see him again, so you have to make it count.
As you arrived, you knocked on his door, and he opened it, ushering you in before closing the door.
"Y/N,” he addressed you, “I have to admit, you've been my favorite student these past 4 years. I don't think a student will ever surpass the expectations you've set." You beamed with pride and nodded in gratitude. "Are you hungry?” He inquired, “I made reservations at a restaurant for us, if you're comfortable with that. There's something that I want to discuss, and a celebration to be had." The moment you nodded, he stood up and grabbed his coat, ushering you out of his office and leading you to his car. It was sleek and black, and shiny as if he bought it within the last couple days. Even the interior was almost factory fresh. In your gawking, Levi started his car, the roar of the engine pulling you from your stupor. You quickly buckle up, and he does the same before pulling out.
The drive to the restaurant was silent, but it was a comfortable one, both of you content with each other's company. Soon enough, he stopped the car in front of a high end restaurant, and climbed out. You came out after him, and you saw his eye twitch a bit at the sight, but he still looked as stoic as normal. A man came up to him and Levi gave him the car keys before leading you into the restaurant. You felt so out of your depth, feeling like a clown in the middle of Wall Street. Everything practically glittered, and you were stuck in your awe as you were guided to your table, subconsciously walking with Levi. Levi pulled out your seat and you sat, your attention now fully on him. The lighting almost made the man look soft, admiration swam in his eyes although it was very easy to miss. How many times has he  given you that look without you even realizing?
"Firstly, I want to congratulate you on your graduation,” he responded to you as he sat down, “Summa Cum Laude is a great feat. I'm extremely proud of the work you've done."
"Thank you Professor. Your help really made the difference."
"Don't disregard your own talent. I was only there to assist. Everything else came from you. All those late hours that we pulled together, as well as the ones you did on your own, and the hundreds of drafts that you had to redo over and over again, you decided to pull through. At any point, you could have given up from my harsh mentorship, but you took it in stride. That's extremely admirable of you." You smiled at his kind words. The waiter came and took your orders, Levi ordering you a dish that you were looking at but ignored due to the high price. After the waiter left, Levi's attention was back on you.
"I'm going to get into the real reason I invited you here." He leaned forward and clasped his fingers together, looking at you intensely. You felt heat rise in your face and you quickly drank some of your water to calm down. "I want you to be my partner." You choked on your water, and he rubbed your back gently, apologizing.
"Your what?"
"My partner,” he clarified,  “I'm going to Berlin for a historical site, and I want you to come with me as my partner. They found numerous artifacts and want me to analyze them." Professional partner. Got it. He continued, "It'll be a great experience for you, and I know you're more than capable. Granted I'll be doing most of the heavy lifting, but it'll be hands on practice, an internship if you will."
"It's an honor," You responded, trying your best to play it cool, and failing miserably. Heat started flooding your face, and you looked visibly flustered.
"Sorry to embarrass you like that,” he responded, continuing, “I'll inform them to book an extra room as well as another person to the flight manifest."
You furrowed your eyebrows at him in confusion, "Flight manifest?"
He nodded in agreement, saying, "They chartered a private plane to fly me there. We'll also be staying at a hotel near the site. Our meals will also be completely covered."
Widening your eyes, you replied, "This is a lot."
"Considering my status as an archivist and historian, I'm not surprised," he responded. You know his status all too well.
"Professor,” you put your hands on the table as you inquired, “did I ever tell you why I picked this major and chose this university?" His gaze looked like he was picking you apart piece by piece.
"Tell me."
"When I was growing up, history wasn't my favorite subject,” you responded, shrugging your shoulders, “In fact, I hated it. I always did so poorly. But then in high school, we watched a video that involved  you looking through artifacts, explaining them piece by piece. I was so enamored with the way you spoke. I could see how much you loved what you did, and it was then that I found my love of history. I read all of your books, and even got a couple of them signed."
He smiled softly, faintly remembering you, saying, "That's why you felt familiar."
You nodded, and responded, "I found out you taught here, and applied, hoping to take your classes. And I'm glad I did." Levi was so thankful that either you could see the flush rising to his face at your words or chose to keep it to himself. Maybe he's going to regret inviting you to Berlin, but he can't fathom the idea of never seeing you again. So he'd rather shove his feelings down and ignore them than act on them and never speak to you again. It's what he's done for the last year so keeping it up shouldn't be an issue.
"You flatter me, Y/N."
"And you the same, professor."
"Please, call me Levi. You've graduated. I'm no longer your professor. And we’ll be working together as equals, so you're more than okay to refer to me with my first name."
"Okay, Levi." He just felt his soul leave his body at the sound of his name. If he was a cat, you would hear him purring. "I look forward to working with you!"
"Me as well."
A month later, you were in Berlin, working side by side with Levi. Any time you heard the shower running, you wanted to scream, remembering the first night you moved in, seeing a towel only wrapped around his hips. How is a professor and historian built like that? He isn't ripped, but you definitely saw a six pack and an Adonis belt. You had to pretend as if you never saw him, as if that image doesn't take over your dreams, filling them with nothing but pure lust. Unbeknownst to you, Levi had the same conundrum, having seen you in your underwear when you accidentally left the door to your room open. Is he some kind of pervert? He must be with how often he thought about you. What's wrong with him and why can't he get it together? Rather than sort out his feelings, he bottles them up once more, while you do the same. He finds himself regretting that he brought you here like he has every day since you both arrived.
One night all of the staff decided to go out and party. Levi has no idea how you roped him into this, but here you both are, Levi sitting on the table and you having the time of your life on the dance floor. His eyes are focused on you, and how could they not be with how bright you look, rivaling even the lights. A tap on his shoulder caught his attention.
"Levi, you can't keep sitting here." He turned to see Hange, an archivist he's worked with before.
"I'm fine here." Hange scoffed at Levi's words.
"I don't think so. I see you staring at your coworker. It's so obvious you like them."
"I have no idea what you're talking about." A mischievous smile made its way onto Hange's face.
"So you won't mind if I go dance with them, right? They look like so much fun." Levi scowled and almost snarled before clearing his throat.
"Sure. Go have fun." Hange sauntered up to you, their presence only being made known to you with the scent of a sharp perfume. You never knew how to describe their scent as anything other than clean. Their breath was cool on your ear.
"Hey Y/N. Wanna make Levi jealous?" You turn to them, certain that you didn’t hear them correctly, but they had a grin that you knew meant nothing but trouble.
"What do you have in mind?"
"Dance with me. Give him a show." Your smile quickly matched their own, and you grabbed his hands before pulling them close.
"And a show he'll get." Soon there was barely any space between you two as you both moved to the music. You honestly forgot about three songs in what your initial goal was, losing yourself to the music. Hange was so much fun, the both of you giggling when you bumped into each other or made a misstep. Their mood was contagious and you easily found yourself lost in them. A tap on your shoulder brought you back to earth, turning to face the person who wanted your attention only to see Levi.
"Y/N. I'm going home. Have fun with Hange," he spoke through gritted teeth and looked composed, although you could tell he was seething. His jaw was clenching and unclenching and  a fire raged in his eyes.
"Give me a second and I'll come with you." Levi scoffs at your response.
"No, you're having so much fun with them and I wouldn't want to impede."
"Levi. We're heading home." You turned and kissed Hange on both cheeks. "See you tomorrow!"
"I look forward to it." They winked and you giggled, only serving to only worsen Levi's mood. Levi quickly pulled you out of the club, mumbling quietly. A taxi pulled up and you both stayed silent on the ride back to the apartment, but you could feel the tension crawling on your skin. As you entered the apartment, Levi walked behind you, closing the door gently. He has to remain calm. He shouldn't fuck this up. How can he get his feelings across to you in a way that doesn't make you uncomfortable? He's deep in thought and the sound of you calling his name breaks his concentration, his eyes focused on you. Before he could say anything, you walked up to him and kissed him, stealing his breath away. He quickly returned the kiss, holding a hand to your cheek. You never got the time to really pay attention to all of his callouses, the rough texture imprinting on your skin, but you felt as if this is where you belong, where you were meant to be. With him. By his side. You both broke away from the kiss as you let out a breathless chuckle.
"Well, I'm glad I'm bold enough for the both of us. You would have taken forever to confess." He scoffed at your words.
"I was planning on telling you tonight."
"After I was practically grinding on Hange."
"Fair. But why them of all people?" You gave him a soft smile before you spoke.
"Because they're your friend. I know you trust them to not seriously be flirting with me. So I got to make you jealous in a comfortable way." He returned your smile in kind.
"That was a solid plan. There's, however, one hiccup." You cooked your head in confusion.
"Oh, and what would that be?" His smile turned into a malicious smirk, with affection and lust swimming in his eyes.
"Hange isn't here to save you from me tonight."

Relationship: platonic
!!TW: Mentions of death of close one!!
.・。.・゜✭・.・✫・゜・。.
-ˋˏ✄┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈┈
Greetings Y/n,
I would say I hope you are well, but I know better then that.
I understand what you're going through. I know its hard. It feels lonely and makes you feel empty. I know you'd like to think people aren't taken from you before you're ready. I only wish that were true.
You are not alone. You don't have to distance yourself out of fear of losing someone. It will just make you miserable.
Death and abandonment is all around us. It's tragic, but its necessary. It's natural, we're all born and we will all die one day. But that doesn't mean we should live in fear of losing someone else. That just makes the time we do have here unbearable.
I know you loved them. I know how much they meant to you, but it will be okay.
Nothing in this life is permanent. Nothing but your spirit.
You're spirit will affect people long after your gone. Whether for better or worse. Remember that.
You are loved. You are NOT alone. You didn't deserve this. Don't be afraid to lean on me. Don't be afraid to lean on those who are there for you. That's their job, to help you.
I will always be here. I mean that. I'm not going anywhere.
Sincerely,
Levi ♡

Levi Hc’s: PDA
warnings: none, just fluff lowkey
Pairing: Levi x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Levi isn’t very big on pda. Yes, he loved you to death but that doesn’t mean he wanted everyone to see him in such a vulnerable state. It was reserved for you only.
You never minded since it was really never anyone’s business to begin with besides yours. Levi adored how you didn’t mind keeping your relationship a secret. The only ones who knew were Hange and Erwin, but you both trusted them enough not to tell.
You both would try be careful when you did decide to show small signs of affection outside of your rooms.
One day, a scout happened to enter the ‘empty’ meeting room right as Levi pecked your cheek. Apparently humanity’s strongest soldier couldn’t pull away fast enough before the scout ran off.
Rumors quickly spread around the base about whether your relationship with Levi was true or not.
Lingering eyes followed you both when you strolled down the hallway together. Some of them would even try to sneakily stay in your vicinity to see if it was true.
After a few days, it was all anyone was talking about.
“Maybe we should tell them.” Levi said taking a hold of your hand, thumb brushing over your knuckles.
You raised your interlocked hands to give a kiss on the back of his hand. “It’s up to you, love. I’m comfortable with whatever you choose.”
Honestly his statement surprised you. You didn’t think he’d suggest it in his own. You thought maybe he’d actually stop being affectionate with you completely unless it was behind closed doors.
Slowly, Levi would introduce your usually personal dynamic in public.
Whether it was holding your hand, kissing your cheek, ruffling your hair, hell even a full kiss on the lips if you were lucky enough.
No one would dare talk about it in front of you, though. Of course, that didn’t mean you and Levi didn’t notice the silly uproar when it first occurred. You weren’t stupid.
Pulling you behind a stone pillar, Levi captured your lips with his and his hand went around your waist. He pulled away with a faint smile, but it quickly faded when you both heard shushing and whispers.
“Oh my god, it is true!”
“D-did he just smile?”
“I can’t decide if I wanna be Captain Levi or (Y/n).”
Turning your head, you noticed a small group of scouts trying to hide around the corner.
You let out a small chuckle and met Levi’s now hardened gaze. “Lighten up, they’re doing no harm.”
“Then why is everyone more shocked about this then when we discovered Eren was a titan?”

We hit 300 followers?! Thanks y’all 🫶🏼🤎 In celebration, here’s another Soft!Levi drabble cause OOC Levi can be a fresh breath of air :)
An image popped into my head the other night about Levi being so (secretly) smitten with you that he’d do literally anything for you and to help you, including keeping you warm on winter-time expeditions, and I just lost it I hAd to write.
“Whose bright idea was this anyways? Venturing past the walls while the weather is in the negatives.”
“It was Commander Erwin’s, sir.”
“Well then he isn’t too bright, now is he.”
Eld shrugged his shoulders once his Captain turned his back, shooting a look over to Gunther with a silent plea for something to say for the man to feel less bitter.
Gunther only pursed his lips and shook his head, unable and unsure how to help the poor man console their grumpy Captain.
He’d never been one to complain about the weather, that much they knew for certain. He never made a comment if it were too hot or too cold outside. Rather, he’d just dress accordingly and scoff at Hange for whining and cursing at the sky.
But today…Today was different.
Sure, the weather was a bit nippy. The wind had yet to cease its constant flow across the fields, and occasionally a speck or two of snow would float down from the heavens. It wasn’t the worst weather they had traveled through, by far.
But Levi was irritable. And when he was irritable, his squad had learned to tiptoe around him for fear of a quick lashing from his tongue.
While Oulo echoed their Captain’s complaints to a very unimpressed Petra some feet away, Eld and Gunther wondered amongst themselves as to why this could be.
They were only scouting the perimeter for titan activity, so that they could relay this information back to the Commander for the upcoming expedition that was soon to be held. So what could have set the raven off about this mundane, ordinary task?
The answer flew before their eyes and landed on the ground with a soft crunch as the frost clinging to blades of grass were squashed under foot.
The squad’s fifth Cadet, Y/N, was quick to sheath the handles of their gear back into their holsters and wrap their arms around their shoulders. Exhaling a breath that fogged the air, they shuddered.
“N-nothing on the east side,” they reported quietly to Captain.
Levi was quick to turn to them, assessing the shivering state they were in. The furrow in his brow and the downward tilt of his lips didn’t go unnoticed by the second command and his friend, who snickered to one another in realization.
Y/N was freezing out here. Of course their socially awkward Captain would be pissed about having his lovely Cadet uncomfortable.
Though their snickers soon died in their throats when, instead of responding to Y/N’s report, he shook off his Survey Corps jacket and cape and draped them over their shoulders.
“We’ll be heading back to Headquarters in no time. Till then…Just…S-stay by me, alright? Cant have you catching a cold.”
His muttered statement and pink tinted cheeks were enough to halt even Oulo in his rambling, who turned to Petra in confusion.
“It’s not that cold-“ he muttered in confusion, to which Petra quickly shushed him as she watched on in glee.
“T-thanks,” Y/N whispered, taking a step closer to Levi and huddling into their additional clothing.
“Don’t mention it. I-I run hot anyways.”

He becomes docile and tender only for you. He's got a big attitude; he's a brash man. Terribly hot-headed and quick-tempered. He snaps at anyone and everyone, sometimes irrationally.
But for you? For you that all melts away. For his pretty Y/n he'll be gentle and tender. You need help with something small? Right away. You need hugs and kisses? He's gonna smother you in them. You're feeling sad? He'll put everything on hold to console you.
Only when you tell him, "Calm down, baby." he'll actually listen.

I hope y'all enjoy!! I've listened to this song for days on repeat so I hope I have captured it well.

It had only taken a couple months for the pure titans to be disposed of, thanks to the efforts of the scouts. This eradication is the reason why you find yourself sneaking off for another lone ride before dusk falls. The hard part wasn’t getting your horse or permission to go outside the walls, it was trying to get out without too many questions from your fellow cadets. You didn’t know how to tell them this was your way of escaping from them and everything else that came crashing since the battle of Shiganshina.
“Oi oi oi! Where do you think you’re going?” A deep voice rings out behind you as you’re saddling up. You feel your heart jump with your body. You take a deep breath to steady yourself before turning around to face a stern Captain Levi.
“Just a little ride before dinner tonight, Levi. I already got the okay.” He eyes you wearily.
“By yourself?” He crosses his arms.
“Yes, by myself. It’s not like we have any threats out there anymore.” You roll your eyes, smile now fading, before turning back around to tighten straps.
“People can be just as dangerous.” He gripes back. You feel his eyes burning holes in your head.
“Sounds like someone is worried about me.”
“Of course, I’m worried. Who knows what trouble you’ll get yourself into.”
“You don’t trust me?”
“Tch, I trust you.” His words make you grin, but you quickly wipe it off your face before turning back around once you’re satisfied with your gear. You stare at him for a moment, his eyes meeting yours a second later.
“I’ll be back. I promise.” You say softly as you grip your reins tightly ready to lead your horse out of the stables.
“Just be careful.” He mutters, stepping aside to give you space to leave. His words make your heart jump again. Your eyes linger on each other as you walk past, a quick nod shared between the two of you as a goodbye.
On today's ride, you decide to aim for a bundle of trees sitting at the base of a small mountain to the west of the southern gate that you had noticed a while back. A couple hours pass before your destination comes into view. By your estimate, you had about an hour before being forced to head back lest you be surrounded by darkness.
You stare into the thick trees as you hand feed a treat to your tied off horse, an abrupt nip at your fingers alerting you to your now treat-less palm. A small laugh escapes your lips as you pat her nose reassuringly.
"I'll be back, okay? Don't go anywhere." You whisper up at her wide eyes. She bids you goodbye with another nip.
As you make your way through the overgrown shrubbery and gangly trees, you can't help but feel excitement for what might be on the other side. Looking up, you use a hand to half cover your eyes from the late afternoon sun filtering in between the leafy branches. Bird song weaves through the now thickening trees and into your ears. You softly whistle the song back as your fingers fumble with the latches on your waist. After a moment, the sketchbook you currently use as a guidebook is free from its confines. As always with every expedition you've ever been on, you are ready to document anything you see and hear.
It takes several more minutes before you finally stumble into a clearing. Whatever you had expected to find, it was leagues under from your current display. A meadow, far grander than anything you've ever seen, expands in an oval in front of you. Trees surround the whole area tall and strong, like knights in a line of defense. A small stream cuts through diagonally, telling stories with its gentle babble. You step deeper into it all with your eyes as wide as can be, soaking in this picture-perfect moment.
Looking down as you walk, your eyes become overwhelmed with the multitude of colors peppering your vision. Flowers of various sizes and lengths shift in the breeze as you walk by and something in you warms. Your eyes catch something that makes you stop abruptly.
“Oh wow.” You whisper as you slide down to your hands and knees so that you are eye level with a particular looking plant that didn’t very much look like a flower at all. The stem is brown, an odd color, you think, but it looked like a normal stem at least. The top however, where the petals would be, was soft and… furry? You reach out and lightly touch it. Much to your surprise, some of the fuzzy bits detach and fly off into the wind. A burst of laughter escapes from your chest and a memory stirs within you at the sight.
Armin had talked to you about these plants - dandelions. According to him, if you blow on the white bits to make them scatter and make a wish at the same time, it will come true. It was so silly, you think, but really what could it hurt? People wish on shooting stars all the time - this would be no different.
It takes you a moment, but you find a dandelion perfect for the wish you had in mind. You decide to plop yourself into the plush grass next to the creek, flower in hand. You feel a rush of heat sear your cheeks at not only what you were about to do but also what you were about to wish for. After making sure you were alone with a quick survey around, you sit forward and stare hard at the white fuzz. Close your eyes. Take a deep breath.
“I wish for Levi to be mine.” Then blow.
.
Levi calls your name from behind, snapping you out of your anxious thoughts for a moment. You pull back on your reins until Levi can fall into step with you. When you glance over, he arches an eyebrow at you with a silent question of, "Where are we going?" He must have noticed your change in course, now heading west instead of straight south. To be honest, you wouldn’t have even noticed that you had shifted directions if Levi hadn’t said anything. This ride has become second nature to you. After your initial discovery, the meadow quickly became your fortress of solitude and you found yourself coming back again and again without thinking about it.
After weeks of patiently waiting, an opportunity to team up with Levi to check out the port construction progression finally came. Whether that came from luck or your constant pestering to Commander Hange, you didn't know. Regardless, you were both nervous and excited to finally share your most prized secret with Levi no less. All you give him in return for his silent question is a simple, "Trust me." before squeezing your thighs together then galloping off, leaving your captain in the dust.
The sun bares straight down by the time you and Levi make it to your makeshift hitching post just outside your favored path. On the ground next to it sits a half bucket of water and you give yourself a mental reminder to fill it the next time you’re here. Levi doesn't say anything as he ties off his horse, mirroring your movements with deft fingers. Nor does he say anything as you pull off the basket you had tied onto your saddle so long ago hidden with goodies you packed the night before. He still doesn't say anything as he follows you on the beaten path you’ve made from your many visits. Levi's silence was normal, and yet…
"Aren't you going to ask where I'm taking you? I could be leading you to your death, you know." You glance back at Levi, eyes locking on each other. His expression might be unreadable to most, but to you there was a subtle bliss written all over his face. You shoot him a smile while you wait for his answer.
"You asked me to trust you. So I'm trusting you. Besides, you can't take me on your own. You got a death wish?" He grumbles back to you.
"Who said I was alone?" You quip as you twist back around to watch where you were going, swinging the basket in your hands as you walk. Levi scoffs behind you. A comfortable silence blankets the both of you yet again.
It takes a bit but finally the clearing comes into view and those anxious thoughts start clouding your mind again. What if he thinks this is a waste of time? What if he thinks you're ridiculous for this? What if he doesn't share the same feelings for you as you do for him? Levi calls your name again to get your attention. God, you loved how he said your name.
Your eyes focus just as you step through with Levi in tandem. There's a gentle wind today; it blows through the multi-colored meadow in a way that makes the flowers look like they're dancing. The breeze is even soft enough that your favored dandelions stay intact, not a single seed threatens to blow away.
"Is this where you’ve been escaping to?"
"You notice?" You glance his way nervously. As usual, he has no significant emotion on his face, but to say he was emotionless would be a lie. His eyes shift from the babbling creek to the colorful field and then onto your face, eyes soft. The way he looks at you, it makes a part of you feel so alive and free.
"Sometimes." His comment makes you look away, a flush of heat already nipping at your cheeks.
"I-uh, I wanna show you something." You set off deeper into the meadow without checking to see if he’s following.
A moment later, you come upon the spot you had surveyed a couple days in advance, perfect for what you had in mind. In a swift motion, you pull out a blanket from the basket hanging from your arm and splay it on the ground. Once settled, you plop yourself down on the cloth to keep it from flying away. When you look up, Levi’s staring at you incredulously.
“Is this a date?” he asks dryly.
“Do you want it to be?” You ask, patting the empty spot next to you as you do. He hesitantly sits down next to you, unsure of what to do with his body but eventually settles on sitting crisscross like you. He stares over at you, a little bit of shock cracking through his still features. “Levi, I’m kidding. It doesn’t have to be. I just wanted to show you my favorite spot.” You mutter over to him, rolling your eyes. You swallow down your nerves. Maybe he isn’t as interested in you as you had hoped. As you start to unpack the basket of the lunch rations you had stowed away, he speaks up softly.
“I wouldn’t mind. It being a date, I mean.” His voice stays monotone, but his words make you double-take at him. Levi is flushed pink, starting from his neck then ending at the tips of his ears. A wide grin breaks out on your face as you finally comprehend what he just said.
“Really? Because this would have been so embarrassing if you didn’t feel the same way. I mean, I would have had to run away and start a new life somewhere else. When I talked to Mikasa about this, she was all ‘love like this only happens once in a lifetime.’ and it made me think that you might actually be the love of mi-“ You’re cut off by Levi’s nimble fingers pulling your chin in his direction, his face a lot closer than you remembered it being. He whispers your name again.
“Shut up.” And then his lips are on yours, soft and tender. You don’t remember much after that, but you do know that whatever they said about wishing on dandelions had to be true. And you couldn’t wait to wish upon many more in the meadow now shared between you and Levi.

— a lesson in dancing ˚⁎⁺ levi ackerman x gn!reader
Tumblr media
Levi doesn't think you should be with an old man like him. You show him otherwise. Or: in a post-war life, Levi learns to dance again.
content — Post-war, Hurt/Comfort, Fluff, Some internalized ableism from Levi but Reader helps him get through it, Reader is younger than Levi, Slow dancing, Basically a whole lot of comforting Levi in this one (wc: 2.3k). For reference - I headcanon that Levi uses a wheelchair most of the time, but that at home, he'll opt for a cane.
Crossposted on AO3.
Tumblr media
“You should find someone younger to be with.”
At first, you aren’t sure if you heard Levi correctly. It’s still early; the sunrise barely reaches the town's tiled roofs. Sparrows nibble around you, scavenging for breakfast. Everything is at a complete standstill.
Then you glance up from this morning’s newspaper. Levi is staring at the youth gathered around the city square.
“What did you say?” you ask.
Levi’s attention settles onto you, a half-lidded stare that’s no less charged than in his prime as the Captain.
“You’re still young," he mutters. "You’re still whole."
Well, if he didn't have your attention before, he certainly has it now.
You place your reading onto the café table, right next to the cup of coffee the waiter just brought. Your fingers linger on the edges of the newspaper, bending the corners with your thumb.
“Levi, I don’t want to be with someone else," you say, slow like you were carefully weighing each syllable with care. "I want to be with you.”
"You say that, but I can’t give you that.”
You frown, following his changing line of sight, back to the youth. In the distance, couples dance, following music coming from an accordion. They step and twirl, a resounding cheer (“ha!”) echoing with every count of twelve.
It brings you straight back to Paradis, to life within the Walls, to evenings spent in dingy taverns. Hange and Miche used to love dancing; they loved to drag you along. You wonder if Levi is thinking about those nights too.
"Are you talking about us dancing?”
The knot in Levi's throat bobs. He swallows it down with an almost bitter expression. “That, and more. Just look at me.”
“I’m looking, Levi.”
If only he knew—you’ve been looking all along.
All these years of fighting side by side, of fighting against titans and humans, of trying to bring peace to the world.
Just to arrive at a time and place where you could look at him.
And the sight grounds you.
Levi's eyes—one milky white and shuttered, the other a deep gray that reminds you of muted skies. His hair, silky black, embellished from the passage of time with strands of silver (like starlight, you think). A pearl-colored scar that twists below his lash line, running across the left side of his face, currently glowing from the dewy morning sun.
Everything about Levi has always been beautiful.
Despite that, you watch Levi retreats in his shell. His expression hardens and his knuckles tighten. It's the same old reaction you've grown accustomed to seeing. Levi did it Then, in Paradis, and he's doing it Now, in this new life.
But you? You rip through it, cut the distance apart. The feet of your chair rattles against the cobblestone of the street as you draw near. By the time you're settled at his side, you’re close enough to count the freckles splattered on the tip of nose.
“Levi, listen to me. You’re enough just the way you are. We can go through life as we please. Isn’t that enough?”
Levi remains silent, setting his posture like iron.
You tug at the hems of his shirt, twirling the fabric around your index. “Hey, c'mon now. Have I ever told you how handsome you are in the early morning?”
“Tch, don’t patronize me. You must want more than to be stuck with an old man like me.”
“What if I like my old man?”
“You should be with someone younger.“
“Who says?”
“I’m saying.”
Levi’s deadpan expression doesn’t falter under your even gaze, but his lower lip opens up slightly, as if he were trying to even out his breathing. A blue vein tenses down his neck. You have the urge to smooth it with the back of your hands.
But you focus on his words instead.
“Levi, where’s all of this coming from?”
“Does it matter?”
“Yes, of course, it matters. If it's making you have these thoughts, it matters.”
Levi's eyes narrow. You sigh.
“Fine, you stubborn man. You wanna know what I see?” you say under your breath.
There’s something vulnerable tied to Levi’s gaze. You hold onto it, sliding your fingers through his hair to brush care into his scalp. Your thumbs linger over the crow’s feet permeating the corner of his eyes. A constellation of wrinkles and spots dust Levi's skin, an aftermath of time and sun exposure. You run a delicate digit over all of it, ending along his scarred lash line.
Levi swallows loudly.
“When I look at you, Levi, I see the pain of someone who was asked to grow up much too fast. I see the face of a man who had to shoulder the weight of survival all by himself. I see the life of a soldier who has fought for peace so that all of them,” your head bobs in the youth’s direction, “now get to enjoy a quiet Saturday morning where they can dance without a care in the world.”
Levi glances over your shoulders, fixing a point like it was the most interesting thing in the world.
You bring your hands along the sides of his jaw, directing his attention back to you. “Levi, you’re everything I want. We fought for a decade to be here. Why can’t you recognize that?”
He attempts to shake his head. “You deserve more.”
“That's for me to decide."
"I disagree."
"You always trusted my judgment as a soldier, so please extend me that same courtesy in this life here. Trust me to know what I want.”
“S’not the same.”
“It is. I dedicated my heart to the Scouts back then, didn’t I? And now I’m dedicating it to you.”
Levi’s ears turn pink, his lips tightening into a pout that cannot be described as anything else but coy. “Tch, don't say shit like this in public.” He attempts to lean away from your touch, but you teasingly play with strands of his hair, coxing him to utter stillness.
You lift a brow.
Levi stays quiet. Your knees bump with his, and you remain close while you watch him think your words over. Somehow, though, you can tell he’s grateful to have you here with him. You’re the one still by his side after all these years of death and pain and misery.
The one who stayed.
And Levi conveys his gratitude by reaching to you at last, slow like he were afraid to be stung. He loops his fingers around your own, his thumb gliding against the pulse point on your wrist. Once he has his hold on you, he doesn't let go, slowly stroking your skin with his thumbs.
You exhale in solace.
“So, what's the verdict?" you murmur. "Should I continue praising you?”
He releases your hands. “Please don’t.”
You chuckle, moving to grab the newspaper once more. Today’s headline talks of peace negotiations, negotiations that are to be handled by Commander Armin Arlert.
“Listen, I meant what I said, Captain," you tell Levi as you smooth over the article, ready to pour your attention onto it. "Like it or not, you’re stuck with me now.”
Levi clears his throat as he takes a sip of tea. “Careful, soldier, that almost sounded like a marriage proposal.”
This time, it’s your turn to get flustered. You hide behind your wall of reading and when you peer over the newspaper, you swear there’s a ghost of a smirk tugging at Levi’s lips.
Tumblr media
The evening is setting. Outside, waves crash against the cliffs while seagulls croak in swarms. You don’t pay attention to the noise; you’re inside the little cottage you and Levi share, too busy tweaking the machine Onkyankopon gifted you. It's a vinyl player—a machine which lets you play music records. Admittedly, you aren’t well-versed with these modern inventions, but this one you’re excited to use.
The record you’ve placed into the vinyl player comes from Onkyankopon’s home town. It promises a soothing journey filled with emotional highs—just what you need. With a grin plastered on your face, you press the play button. The tonearm hits the record and a lovely crack sounds across the living room. You lower the volume, and turn around.
“Levi, you coming?”
You hear a grunt in response, echoing across the narrow corridor of the house. “There’s no fire under my ass, is there?”
“Just a very excited me is all.”
Several moments later, Levi walks in, cane in hand. He’s fresh out of the shower. His hair is still wet, bangs clinging to the sides of his forehead, and his cheeks still have that rosy hue that comes from him washing it thoroughly. He’s wearing a freshly ironed shirt, and what Marleyans call jeans (which, incidentally, make his ass look great).
Your stomach flutters.
Levi raises a brow. “What did you want to show me?”
“Oh.” You blink, remembering your plan. “Right. Please, c'mon here.”
He does, walking towards you, something cautiously guarded on his face.
You roll your eyes and shoot him a playful smile. “It’s not a trap, I promise.” Your fingers move to the collar of his gray shirt, feeling the rough fabric of cotton between your fingertips. The color matches his gaze, it brings out the smoothness of his pale skin.
He really is pretty.
You tell him as such.
He scoffs, a lovely pink hue dusting the tips of his ears. “Don’t say shit like that.”
You shrug. “We’re not in public anymore, are we?”
“Spare me.”
“But I like to compliment you."
"That's not my problem."
"Fine, old man. Then I suppose I should show you.”
His eyes narrow, not unkindly or in an annoyed manner, but with the regard of someone who dislikes surprises, who knows you’re up to something.
You detach yourself from him for a moment, striding over to reach for the volume button and turning it up. As soon as the slow violin and piano tug through the air, you turn towards him with a grin.
“Let’s dance,” you announce.
To Levi’s credit, he doesn’t appear all that surprised by this turn of events. Well, he’s known you over a decade, so you suppose he’s learned a thing or two about you.
You take his wooden cane out of his hands, carefully placing it against the wall. For a moment, the two of you just stare at each other from across the small room, admiring one and another. Moonlight trickles into the room, gracing Levi with its touch. His gray stare is aglow, his hair like silver. Like starlight, indeed.
Taking a slow step in his direction, you slide into his arms, and he welcomes you like you were made to belong there all along. You take his invitation with a smile, offering him support for his leg while you bask in the comfort of his embrace. Levi places his left hand over your shoulder, the other finding a home along your ribs, fingers slotting along every bone. Safety. His touch sparks warmth across your body, and you bring your hands to the back of his neck, delicately smoothing his undercut.
“The music is starting,” you murmur into the shell of his ear. Tingles spread through your veins.
“Yeah, it is.”
The music isn’t anything like the one you heard on the square today. This track is slow and intimate, and so, your dancing adapts to it. At first, you take the lead, only taking occasional small steps back, hips swaying with the soft melody. Levi follow closely, so close that you listen to his heartbeat quicken beneath your touch.
Half a minute later, Levi surprises you by carefully taking one of your hands between his own, dragging his thumb over your knuckles. He guides you back into a slow spin, and you feel the air expand in your lungs as you take several steps away from him, watching your two shadows ripple over the silver spotlight. When he tugs you back and your vision spins, you think how perfectly your bodies align together.
“Levi, why are you so good at this?” you chastise playfully.
“Erwin used to make me attend these fancy balls in the Interior,” he says in your ear, the tenor of his voice rumbling against your skin. “I learned there.”
“Huh, that’s true. I remember the tuxedos you and Erwin wore now that you mention it." You chuckle. "You both looked devilishly handsome.”
“We looked like two pretentious snobs, you mean.”
"You say that, but I think Erwin took you along for a reason. We always did get the funding for every expedition.”
“Yeah.” There’s a note of fondness for Erwin and past memories, things you aren't exactly privy to, but that you're glad he gets to cherish all the same.
You come to rest a cheek close to his neck, submerging yourself with the warmth of his skin. “I guess this little dance doesn’t measure up to the lavish balls you’ve attended, right?”
His hand tightens around your own. “No, this is better.”
You smile at his words.
It isn’t until a moment later that you realize the music has stopped, that you’re both still slow dancing to silence. Outside, the sound of waves remains.
Slowly, you untangle yourself from Levi, looking at him like he were the lighthouse guiding you back to shore. Levi’s attention is already fixed on you, his face filled with quiet fondness. There's starlight in his gaze.
“You see," you say. "We can dance, you and I.”
Levi raises a hand towards you, tucking a loose strand of hair behind your ear. “If we can teach your clumsy ass some rhythm, sure.”
“Hey, don’t be mean.”
Levi snorts, and before you can say anything else, he surprises you by leaning over to press a kiss over your forehead.
And under the moonlight, you watch him at peace, and all feels right.

levi ackerman
๑ summary: 3 times Levi shows you he loves you. One time he says it
๑ cw: nothing just short and sweet fluff
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
Unspoken Comfort:
It was a night time, the moon casting a pale glow against your surroundings as you and Levi sat by the crackling campfire, the only two people awake amidst the slumbering soldiers. Levi, who rarely succumbed to sleep, had his piercing gaze fixed on the dancing flames.
You struggled to keep your eyes open, determined to savor this rare moment of quiet togetherness. Levi, ever perceptive, noticed your efforts to stay awake. He wordlessly scooted closer to you, draping his cloak over your body, intertwining his fingers with yours. The warmth of his cloak enveloped you, a shield against the cold crisp night air. His way of silently saying “I’m here to protect you, I love you.”
Tumblr media
Silent Support:
The training grounds were filled with the sound of metal clashing against metal. You pushed yourself relentlessly, determination etched on your face, as you strived to improve your combat skills. Deep down, however, self doubt was plaguing your mind.
As you sparred with Levi, losing over and over again he could sense the doubt overcoming you. Instead of criticizing your skills he adjusted his training style to match your pace. Slowing his movements so you could better anticipate his attacks. With each successful strike you made his eyes showed a hint of pride, something only you could decipher. He didn’t need to say a single for you to hear his thoughts “I believe in you and the strength you have within you and I’m proud and I love you.”
Tumblr media
Gentle Touch:
In a rare moment of downtime, you found yourself sitting on the rooftop, gazing at the night sky that loomed over the city. You sat there with Levi, a comforting silence enveloping you both, when he suddenly reached out and brushed a strand of hair behind your ear.
His touch carried a senses of warmth, one that overcame his usual stoic and reserved nature. It was a subtle gesture, his fingertips lingering against your skin for a few seconds, before his hand retreated. In that simple touch, Levi conveyed the depth of his affection. A silent thought that said “You are beautiful, and you are loved."
Tumblr media
Spoken:
You and Levi found yourselves alone together, far from the demands of Scout duties. As you lay across Levi's lap the weight of the day's exhaustion began to creep upon you, lulling you towards the promise of sleep.
Levi was quietly reading the paper, his fingers tracing soothing patterns on the skin of your back. The room was overcome with a comforting stillness, broken only by the faint rustle of pages. He glanced down at you, observing your face as your eyes drooped and your breath became steady. You looked so beautiful in moments like this, he thought. Curled up in his lap, comforted by his presence. He couldn’t understand it, how someone like him could bring a sense of peace to someone like you, but loved the way that made him feel.
As sleep began to tug at your consciousness, Levi spoke up. "I love you," he whispered. It was a rare occurrence, him saying I love you first, reserved only for peaceful moments such as this. “I love you to Levi.” You said back, as sleep finally took you away, his words acting as a lullaby seeping into your dreams.
