You’d begun to dabble in dangerous and preposterous daydreams in moments between your encounters, and created a little monster he’d fed just enough with the invitation. You were a sensible person as a rule, and tonight you felt like being reckless. Like being indulgent. So you went.

You dressed the part. Did yourself up. Drenched yourself in your roommate’s perfume.

You showed up on the late side, and the band had already been playing when you arrived. He looked glorious strapped to a guitar in a fitted tank top and distressed skinny jeans, glinting silver hoops catching the light at his ears. You smiled at him when he found you in the crowd and he waved. Then, after the set, he found you, handed you a joint, and told you with a wink to save it for after the show.

Your heart pounded the rest of the night.

You watched him tear up the room with the rest of the band. You cheered uproariously. You danced with your drink raised over your head. If it was a dream, you were sleepwalking for all you cared. The more buzzed you became the fuzzier the lines between reality and fantasy began to appear.

You stayed late into the night, as you’d promised. And sometime after midnight, when the majority of the guests had dispersed and those who remained were locked in bedrooms or passed out on cushioned furniture, he found you. He took your hand and tugged you towards the backyard.

Jisung led you out to the pool, and you both sat on the edge - you with your calves dipped into the cool water as he sat cross-legged beside you. You talked like you always did, but with something new hanging in the air, an energy that had you humming with anticipation beside him. He was so relaxed. You wondered if it was the weed. You hoped it was you. And then he looked at you like he did in your daydreams and his eyes dropped to your lips.

Then his phone chimed.

Glancing at it he sighed and ran a hand through his hair as he stood and told you he’d be back in a minute. So you waited. And waited. Then you pulled your feet out of the pool, picked up your heels, and went to find him.

You didn’t have to look far.

The moonlight was streaming through the floor-to-ceiling glass of the wall facing the expanse of the yard and across the sitting room, casting the bodies of sleeping party-goers draped over chairs and loveseats in the cool marble of its illumination. Everything was silent and still - so the soft, desperate groan from the couch on the far side of the space was enough to pull your eyes to its source.

His constant saying should be: la hawla wa la Quwwata Illa billah Al Aliy al Adheem ("There is no power nor strength except with Allah, the Most High, the Great,") for through it burdens are carried, states are persevered, and conditions are improved.

He should not despair from Dua and seeking, for the servant is answered as long as he is not hasty, saying: "I have prayed, but I have not been answered."

He should know that victory comes with patience, relief comes with distress, and with hardship comes ease. No one has ever attained anything of significant good, from the Prophet to those below him, except through patience. Alhamdulillah."

KATY PERRY - "WOMAN'S WORLD"

Joshua Lu: The prevailing narrative around Katy Perry has transformed: not just about her being a bad artist making bad music, but also about her being a bad person on top of it all. It's easy to justify every mark. "Woman's World" is dated in concept (empty feminist dribble), sound (plodding synthpop that would fit into any of her past three albums), and execution (scatterbrained music video rationalized via "it's just satire bro"). Choosing Dr. Luke as the song's producer was not only morally questionable but also marketed as her executive decision. There are bad artists who are bad people making bad music and still hugely successful; Katy Perry's inability to join those ranks is weirdly comforting, in almost a cosmic sort of way. [3]

Andrew Karpan: Rarely do songs flop by sounding so purely evil: a collage of bad taste arranged in a way that scans as faintly ominous, weird and off-putting, the sound of a dystopian future nostalgically looking back to the past.  [2]

Alex Clifton: Katy Perry is trying so desperately to have it both ways, and it muddies the message she wants to send. The melody Katy sings in the first verse is so flat and thin that when she ramps into the chorus, she barely resolves the melody, the "it" a jarring cut before the chords resolve. Thompson and Ryan try to multitrack her voice to give it the power it doesn't have -- a trick he's learned from working with Kim Petras and The Kid Laroi, both of whom have weak yet distinctive voices -- but it doesn't work. During the second verse, the multitracked echoes below just remind the listener of the lack of depth in the main vocal, pitch corrected so noticeably that it sounds even more inhuman. Since the first and second verse play the same barely moving melody, there's very little else the producers can do. And while the hook is where their work shines, the abortive chorus and warmed-over chords prevent Katy from selling anything. If only Thompson and OG had a better vocal to work with, or a less rapist producer. [0]

Leah Isobel: I honestly don't feel anything when people work with Luke anymore. Maybe that makes me a bad survivor, or a bad feminist; I'm sure that if I said that on Twitter a bunch of transphobes would immediately jump down my throat and call me a rapist. But it's the truth. If there was a true window for accountability -- and I'm not convinced there was -- it closed when "Say So" hit number 1 and the industry was like, cool, let's toss a bunch of other young women into a room with this guy. Or maybe it closed earlier, when Kesha performed "Praying" at the Grammys and seemed to collapse into herself after the song ended, to which James Corden responded with a blank, ineffectual "Wow" before moving the show along. Maybe it closed even earlier, when Bonnie McKee compared him to the devil and said that "Dr. Luke's deals are famously bad, everyone knows that," but still credited him with launching her career; or maybe it closed when, that same year, "New Rules" became Dua Lipa's breakout hit, earning Luke's publishing arm money via the songwriter Emily Warren. Maybe it was earlier than that, when Max Martin took Luke under his wing and made some of the most beloved pop hits of the form now known as "recession pop." But honestly, it was probably earlier: when capitalism took the place of feudalism, when some British guys sailed across the Atlantic Ocean and established a society built on the exploitation of people and nature, when the music industry was built off of vaudeville and the systems of domination it valorized. When artists choose to work with Luke, they are thinking like record executives; they are often rewarded. (Quoth the prophet: "As long as everybody getting paid, right?/ Everything gonna be okay, right?") Kim Petras is the first openly transgender woman to have a #1 single, and she only got there because she signed a contract with Luke. Nicki Minaj earned her first solo #1 with "Super Freaky Girl," a Luke production. Joy Oladokun performed at the fucking White House. That's not to excuse Katy's decision, but to say that these kinds of decisions are often papered over as "compromises" instead of sacrifices. This single's anodyne synths and bland, dated uplift smack of sacrifice. Any interesting perspective is filtered out of the song and redirected toward the video, with its blunt satire and strange pops of body horror. (If I had a nickel for every time a Katy Perry video's visual metaphors made me wince, I'd have two nickels, etc.) The oddity of the whole package suggests a certain helplessness in the face of doom. If it is truly a woman's world, it's in the sense of Andrea Long Chu's edgelordy Females: "The self is sacrificed to make room for the desires of another." [3]

Aaron Bergstrom: If the erstwhile Katy Hudson never actually broke with her fundamentalist evangelical upbringing and has in fact been working as a deep cover operative trying to discredit godless feminism and destroy it from the inside, how would that look any different from what she's doing now? Jackie Powell: Katy Perry is doing a lot. She’s doing too much. She’s straddling trying to be relevant, putting out an earworm, honoring her on-brand silliness that worked over 10 years ago, all while attempting to embody the current moment where rights in America are being taken away. “Woman’s World” has been discussed alongside “Chained to the Rhythm,” which Perry put out after Donald Trump was inaugurated, but while "Chained to the Rhythm" wasn't great, it at least had some sort of message and substance. “Woman’s World” doesn’t answer why this is a woman’s world that we’re living in. It is just a list of adjectives. There’s an argument to be made that Perry is still functioning in a pre-November 8, 2016 world where Hillary Rodham Clinton was trying to make history but was too polished, calculated and apologetic to do so. But the name of the game in 2024 is being unapologetic, a little silly, and authentic. That’s why Kamala is Brat and not living in whatever suffocating universe Perry is in -- I can tell you she's not living on Chromatica, amid all of the comparisons to Lady Gaga’s “Stupid Love”. There’s one mashup on YouTube where Perry’s “Woman’s World” vocal is smashed on top of the Gaga “Stupid Love” instrumental, and the chord progressions and family of synths are indeed similar. But as usual with a Lady Gaga song, "Stupid Love" had more dissonant sounds that gave the track some intrigue and punch. I’m a firm believer in the concept that being an artist involves a certain amount of thievery. But instead of stealing like an artist—there’s a book written about that—Perry is stealing like a manufacturer or corporate bigwig without a soul, just like the incredibly flawed person who produced the track.  [3]

Katy sounds good here (we’re not in straining “Daisies” territory anymore), and the beat is serviceably in-your-face and refreshingly loud. If this wasn’t Luke, I wouldn’t really care about it. In any other context, I'd even like the chorus line “we ain’t going away”; post-Roe it reads as hope that societal progress won’t be entirely reversed to the '50s and/or before. But if we are, in fact, “going away,” that’s partly because of power-hungry, entitled men much like Lukasz Gottwald. It's a predator's world, always has been and maybe always will be; he's lucky to be living in it, and Katy Perry’s happy to enable it. Neat harmonies on the word “celebrate," though.  [3]

It's not just that her voice is grating, or that she's never once in her career displayed any kind of musical intuition or finesse or really any quality one might associate with an ostensible professional singer beyond "loud"; it's that she sings like she's doing a bit. On something gleefully stupid like "California Gurls," that served her well, or at least decently: it's camp! On a song pretending at genuine sentiment -- well, arguably it's also camp, in Sontag's formulation of "failed seriousness," but it's mostly just annoying. Luke, too, apparently has had not one single idea in the decade and a half since Teenage Dream, or else maybe he thought that putting out a track that would slot neatly onto the back half of that album would subliminally fool us into thinking it was 2010 again. But it's not, and rather than nostalgia the utter banality of the sound invites incredulity: was it really worth it, for this? [0]

Taylor Alatorre: "If we ended all collaboration with Dr. Luke tomorrow – and I will, if he deserves it, if the allegations against him are proven in a court of law – would that end sexism? I was just trying out the vault of heavens calculation opposed to lahiri. Most of my nakshatras have stayed the same apart from my sun, mercury and venus, the first two moved from punarvasu to pushya, and the latter moved from mrigashira to ardra.

It’s interesting because out of all my big 3 placements, I always related to my moon (bharani) and my ascendant (swati) more than my sun. I never thought much about punarvasu but then again I do have significant Jupiter influence regardless

I just wanted to ask if you have any insights on pushya nakshatra or if you’ve written any posts on it in the past?

I have wondered if I had any saturn influence in the past because my life has been a series of delays, humbling experiences and karmic lessons but I always attributed that to my bharani moon. Never really got much of that supposed jupiterian instant success and opportunities 🤔

I went through that exact same journey only for me it was my Moon. It went from Punarvasu to Pushya in the Mula ayanamsa, and I have studied charts of so many people for so many years, resonated with all my other Nakshatras, the Sun and the Rising, I’ve seen Punarvasu work in other charts and couldn’t for the life of me relate it to myself. It’s a horrible thing for an astrologer who could easily give readings to so many people with no difficulty not to be able to relate to their own Moon Nakshatra.

I honestly could have written that ask myself. I had the same reasoning, because I also have a strong Jupiter influence regardless, so I just kind of rolled with my Moon and ignored that I wasn’t feeling good about it (Sun and Rising in Vishakha) and even if you do facial comparison, that Jupiter energy can get confusing in between Nakshatras. So the time I spent not diving seriously into the vault of the heavens website I kind of lived in partial unconsciousness about myself and focused on helping everyone else.

I always related to the Vishakha analysis I saw online, but never to the Punarvasu one. Then I also had the exact same impression, that I never had that early luck, that Moon in Jupiterian Nakshatras is supposed to have (as we mature into our Sun way later in life). A Saturn ruled Moon made much more sense to me, because any success I ever had even as a child was always a result of hard work and applying myself, or waiting for those results a serious while, overcoming significant hardship.

I never wrote anything longer about Pushya, I will if and when I feel inspired to do so.

What caught my attention as a defining trait is that Punarvasu is so effortlessly giving, creative and maternal. These traits repeat themselves anywhere you look at this Nakshatra in women. It’s not just about success, it’s about creative expression, they pour themselves into it. Pushya more so explores themes where something can easily get in the way of that. They exist more for others than themselves in a way. The embodiment of a Guru is alive there.

Growing up, I always felt like I was more of a teacher even to my peers rather than a teenage girl. Ultimately, even though Punarvasu is ruled by Jupiter, Pushya gets a much more intense spiritual dimension.

When I was researching the Cancer Moon sign in general to compare between celebrities (some Ardras become Punarvasu in vault of the heavens also) you can clearly see the difference.

I’m going to use women I feel to be the most appropriate examples. Between Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa and Amy Lee they are all Cancer Moons (I use the vault of the heavens tropical ayanamsa). Taylor is an Ardra, Dua is Punarvasu, Amy is a Pushya. You can see a clear progression of emotion. Taylor mostly calls out people’s bad behaviors and difficult moments in her songs, even if there is a silver lining, because Rudra, shining through Ardra is a destroyer and he delights in brining flaws to light, so she delights in making difficult life experiences relatable. Dua’s recent album is so Punarvasu it could be advertising this Nakshatra. I feel like before she was more commercialized and she only grew into herself with this album, especially with songs like “Happy for You”. Such a Punarvasu song, about discovering forgiveness and selflessness and unconditional love, but also so innocent it made me even more sure it’s not my Nakshatra because I couldn’t personally find my state in it, sadly.

Then we move on to Pushya and suddenly the darkness sets in. Amy used to have a full on goth image that by now has slightly toned down, but in Pushya all the difficult emotional spectrum and trying experiences come out, pain so deep you are surprised another person’s love could even put you back together at this point. Reminds me of Claire Naktis Cinderella video about Saturn women. Pushya is after all the first of them. But to be a saved princess you have to first need saving, and that theme appears only in Pushya, because Saturn here gives birth to a low point to overcome.

Allah calls Himself　Al-Muhyee—The Giver of Life— on two occasions in the Quran. Al-Muhyee is the One who created life and decides what will be brought to life. He is the only One who can bring something to life, including the spiritual life to the hearts!

The Bestower of Life, The Reviver

Muhyee comes from the root haa-yaa-yaa, which points to four main meanings. The first meaning is to live. The second main meaning is to become apparent or distinct. The third is to revive, vitalize and call into being and the fourth main meaning is to be sound, or whole.

This root appears 184 times in the Quran in 12 derived forms. Examples of these forms are yuhyee (“grants life”), hayyan (“alive”) and al hayaatu (” the life”).

Al-Muyhee is the only One who can give life to whomever He pleases, surrounding the creation with the right conditions to survive. Then He decrees death, to restore life and join the soul and body on the Day of Judgement to repay us for what we did in this world and this is an easy task for Him!

Al-Muhyee Himself says: . . . Indeed, He who has given it life is the Giver of Life to the dead. Indeed, He is over all things competent. [Quran, 41:39] So observe the effects of the mercy of Allah – how He gives life to the earth after its lifelessness…[Quran, 30:50]

The Plan of Life

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam narrated: Verily, each of you is brought together in his mother’s abdomen for forty days in the form of a drop of fluid. Then it is a clinging object for a similar [period]. Thereafter, it is a lump looking like it has been chewed for a similar [period]. The angel is then sent to him and he breathes into him the spirit. He is also commanded to issue four decrees: to record his sustenance, his life span, his deeds and [whether he will be] unhappy [by entering Hell] or happy [by entering Paradise]..[part hadith, Al-Bukharee, Muslim]
Al-Muhyee bestows our life in stages and grows our body in a miraculous way, from a drop of fluid into a detailed body clothed with muscles, flesh, veins and skin. But not only psycically, Al-Muhyee also gives us life by sending an angel to breath the spirit into us and we remain limited in knowledge of our innerselves. On top of bestowing our lives, Al-Muhyee also commands to issue four decrees which determine the course of our life. Such is the plan of life of Al-Muyee!

How Can You Live By This Name?

1. Be convinced Al-Muhyee can make anything happen.
He it is Who gives life and causes death; so, when He decrees an affair, He only says to it: Be, and it is[Quran, 40:68] This is one of the most hope giving ayaat for those who call upon Him. As Al-Muhyee can bring everything to life and even restore life to that which appeared dead to us, so rest assured taking care of your matters is easy for Him, all you have to do is ask Him, wholeheartedly and sincerely. Turn every worry, moment of stress, wish and desire into a dua!

2. Ask for a heart alive with faith.
Scholars have described hearts, just like bodies, to be of three types; the healthy heart, the dead heart and the sick heart. The alive heart is a heart of faith, its services are exclusively reserved for Allah, willingly and lovingly, with total reliance, relating all matters to Him, in fear, hope, and sincere dedication and it is extremely important to work for a healthy heart: The Day on which neither wealth nor sons will be of any use, except for whoever brings to Allah a sound heart. [Quran 26:88-89]

3. Revive the sunnah.
Mankind has many different concepts of success in life. But what is the right way? He brings (beings/things) to life and causes death; therefore, believe in Allah and in His Messenger, the Prophet who believes in Allah and in His words, and follow him, so that you may walk in the right way [Quran, 7:158]. So make an effort to apply the sunnah in your daily life and for extra reward, revive acts from the sunnah by telling others about them, from the forgotten sunan like the prostration of gratefullness (sajda us shukr) to the neglected acts, like giving salaam on the street!

4. Cherish life.
Al-Muhyee gave you life and placed you on this earth as an ambassador. Respect your life by using your time wisely and respect other people’s life by benefiting them with your knowledge, skills and emotional support and never harm another life unjustly, not even the life of an animal. If you truly cherish life you constantly strive against lughw – useless activities as mentioned in the Quran – this includes useless conversations, watching things of no benefit etc.

5. Learn from nature.
Study the extremely valuable lessons Al-Muhyee teaches you through His works in nature. Among His Signs is that you see the earth laid bare, and then, when We send down water on it, it quivers and swells. He Who gives it life also gives life to the dead. Certainly He has power over all things. [Quran, 41:39] When you see the change of seasons, from greenery to bareness, reflect on the ups and downs of your life and that after dark(difficult) times, light(easy) times come.

6. Strive for knowledge.
Islamic knowldge is a light, ask Al-Muyhee to walk in light in this life and the next! Is he who was dead then We raised him to life and made for him a light whereby he walks among people like him whose likeness is that of one who is in utter darkness from which he cannot come out? [Quran, 6:122]

7. Remind yourself and others of the After-Life.

The Prophet salallahu ‘alayhi wasallam was asked: “Which of our companions are best?” He replied: One whose appearance reminds you of God, and whose speech increases you in knowledge, and whose actions remind you of the hereafter. [al-Muhasibi]

Wallahu ta’alaa ‘alem.

O Allah, Al-Muhyee, we know that You are the only Giver of Life. Bless us with hearts that are alive with faith encouraging us to righteous actions. Make us of those who  live by and revive the sunnah of Your Prophet, guide us in reflecting on Your signs in nature and learn from them. Hi! So what do you think about Perrie solo song?

i think it's a good pop song, i HOPE the team behind her is able to sell her in a decent way however, i don't think she'll become the next dua lipa or a big international solo act. like i've always said, little mix members do not have the artistic persona to become soloists, they only work as a group. they don't have strong enough images to survive the solo path no matter how talented they are. perrie has the pop look, she can sing and she has years of experience in the music industry, but she's a woman coming from a girlband and she's quite old for the nowadays market. i'm not even sure she WANTS that kind of success, to be fair, most likely she's just happy with european/UK markets and a decent place in the charts. considering how exploited they were in their golden days i don't even blame her.

i also think this particular song is about zayn and probably quite old and released now as a solo song but that's just my random opinion

A Year With Ma'at

2023 was a very active year for me. I spent a lot of time working on myself and improving my attitude. In the summer of 2023, I did something very courageous. I asked Ma’at to remove from my life all that did not serve me. I always kept Her at a distance because of my mistaken belief that those who devote themselves to Ma’at would find their lives begin to collapse, as it is in Her Nature to consolidate all that is isfet.

Little by little things began to change. I let go of relationships and beliefs that were toxic, which made me focus intently on the good that remained. Doubt and insecurity were stripped away and replaced by faith and certainty. I walked away from social media and stopped focusing on the news. I felt like I was on top of a mountain. The Universe was wide open to me… then I fell, finding myself in a murksome valley. I began having difficulties in every area of my life and my mindset shifted severely into the negative.

Looking back, this was the beginning of an ordeal. Ma’at did Her Work just as I asked then took a step back as though to say, “I have helped you, now you must help yourself.” That December I looked to the horizon. Come January, I struggled to begin walking towards my new mountain. I did a rune reading with a spread of my design called The Hero’s Journey. Each quarter of the spread is marked by three runes, corresponding to months of the year. I find myself in the third quarter of the year and, so far, everything presented in that spread has come to pass.

In February I began a journey of healing. In March some of my relationships were redefined. In April I started a new job. In May I gained newfound confidence. In June I took steps to secure a better future. In July I began building a career. In August I suffered an injury that led to newfound confidence. As I write this in September, I have found strength and calmness in adversity and received profound wisdom from remarkable individuals. I have an idea of what the fourth quarter will bring but I am choosing to be mindful of the present.

Tonight I realized that Ma’at did not entirely step away. Rather, in removing that which has limited me She left a piece of Herself within me and presented me with opportunities to build upon that foundation. In the wake of the fourth quarter I find myself increasingly mindful of the present moment and implementing the lessons that I learned.

I’ve found that trauma can be released but, in its absence, something must grow. We have a choice of what will take its place and should we forego that choice it will be made for us. There exists a balance in all things. The cosmic struggle of ma’at and isfet is mirrored in human consciousness. To whatsoever we give our greatest passions we will perpetuate in our lives and each cycle ended will be born anew.

Through Ma’at I reinvigorated my practice of gratitude and positive thinking. I have seen just how far positive determination can take someone and now begin to apply its principles to my life. I recall what Bast said to me: “Life can be beautiful if you let it.” Put another way, allowance offers greater rewards than resistance. Embrace Life, my friends, and to you, She will be kind.

well I mean anything really. generally a sticky note but I do have an actual painted bookmark I got from somewhere for free. the other day I was straight up using a hair tie tho it's the wild wild west

what's something about your best friend that you love?

im not just gonna say one thing that's criminal and insulting to her. I met her in senior year english class and we happened to be in the same choir class and she was new to the school because of some truly insane circumstances and there are a million different universes where we didn't meet but I'm so beyond fucking happy we live in this one. I've had best friends before but nobody has truly been here for me like she has. no matter what you say to her she handles it with grace. she doesn't make me feel judged for anything I say or do. I say this with love but she's an absolute ditz but she doesn't take herself seriously so we can just laugh and laugh about the things she says. she's one of the funniest people I've ever met in my life. her instagram stories are some of my favorite things ever. she's always willing to give people a second chance. but somehow she still talks shit with the best of them. she's such a generous person and has amazing tastes in movies and she can bring up the same joke twenty times in a day but still manages to make it funny. she's always down for some ridiculous bullshit adventure we decide to do on a whim. she loves live music and has this hilarious intense one sided beef with dua lipa. she manages to tease me in a way that doesn't ever feel insulting. she cuts hair and is really fucking good at it even though she only goes to class when she has to. she's the most talented makeup artist (that makes it sound like she's licensed or something) I've ever known in my life like I'm serious. she's incredible. she's so confident and never afraid to just be the most honest embarrassing version of herself possible. she literally has a five nights at freddy's themed car. even in the face of the most dire circumstances she always has the faith that everything is gonna work out. and it does. she has a lifetime of ridiculous anecdotes and she attracts weird people and always has some new story to tell of some completely bullshit thing somebody said to her the other day. she got hit by a car one time before we even met but she always laughs when we talk about it. she loves metal music but her favorite song is no hands. she has a beautiful voice and she isn't afraid at all to scream songs in the car. she's obsessed with hummus. she has great style I'm always obsessed with every outfit she wears. and well I could go on but I love her a lot🫶
