Every day I come onto this site and try to think of a better, more convincing method of trying to get people to donate to stagnating fundraisers.
I am very disappointed that Hashim & Laila's, Mohammed Eid Matar's, and Yahya's fundraisers have barely budged over the past week, despite the regular updates they and the people promoting them have been giving.
Mohammed (@mohammedmatat) desperately needs a new tent for his family for the upcoming winter. We have already heard stories about heavy rain this week, which the average tent provides little protection for. Farah (@/farahmoo2), for example, has told us that her family's tent got flooded this week, and needed to be rebuilt. A tent in Gaza costs anywhere between $200-$1000 depending on the quality (not including bedding or a toilet), and building one isn't that much cheaper than a ready-made one. I was hoping to get Mohammed's fundraiser to at least the 2k mark by the end of the week, yet we're still at €1,350. Mohammed is only 23, and has two young siblings to take care of, who not only have been injured over the past year, are now, if they do not get access to safe shelter by the time the winter chill sets in, at risk of getting sick. (don't forget that there has been an outbreak of polio in Gaza as well, and they've only recently started the first rounds of vaccinations for children under 10).
Hashim & Laila (@hashimsafadi) are also at an abysmally low amount, still at €1,362 despite the fundraiser being up since Apr 23. Without jobs, how can two people live off of €1,362 for five months? How can you live off of that, put up with being displaced several times, living constantly under threat of being killed in unsafe areas? Being exposed to massive heat waves, suffering "contamination, intestinal infections, skin rashes, jaundice, and infections of the joints, bones, and teeth"? You can't.
Hashim & Laila will also be needing a safe and sanitary environment to live in for the upcoming winter! Please help them out.
And finally, Yahya Bkheet. Yahya has been tirelessly working to get his family, including three children under 10, out of Gaza. They were given until Aug 23 to raise €30k so they could all evacuate together, yet they didn't even make it to the 5k mark. That hasn't stopped Yahya from continuing to try. He has posted an update today of his situation: his mother needs treatment for her heart disease and diabetes, they need at least $200 to fix up the tent for the upcoming winter, his child Anas has contracted a skin disease from the polluted water, and his other child Mira has the flu and needs money for medicine.
They have only raised €5 today! They deserve better than this. Please help this family out.
Living conditions will not be the only thing for these three families to worry about for the upcoming winter. There's also the question of food. A few days ago, it was reported that Israel’s siege now blocks 83% of food aid reaching Gaza. That means 83% of required food aid will not make it into Gaza, up from the 34% that did not make it in 2023. That means the average Gazan eating two meals day will now drop to just one meal every other day. This makes the recent post @/omgthatdress made yesterday telling everyone to report people who send fundraiser asks, and just donate to aid organizations instead, that much more harmful. Guys, there's hardly any aid coming in! From July-September 2024, fresh meat prices have increased by 366%, and fresh fruit 228%. Please give Gazans a chance and donate to vetted fundraisers if you can, so they can at least buy their own groceries. When the cold weather sets in, people naturally become hungrier. Children cannot survive off of one meal every other day. A couple, whose dream is to go back to school and start a family of their own, cannot survive off of one meal every other day.
In other news, there has also been an update from the Mona Abu Hamda Team, who run a mutual aid fund which provides essential supplies such as blankets, food, flour, charcoal for cooking, sanitary products, and financial aid for necessities such as baby milk. There has apparently been a decrease in donations, and they are currently sitting at €75,639 of their €100,000 target. Please also consider donating to them to help Gazans out this winter.
Tagging for further reach (sorry if I've already tagged you today. I am a tiny blog and my posts only get traction if I tag):

Finding information on Jamila wasn't particularly easy, but from what I can gather...
(credit to @eepop-stuffs btw for getting her on my radar!)
Tumblr media
Jamila was first released in 2006 by Simba Toys Middle East. According to an article published upon her debut at the 2006 Middle East Toy Fair in Dubai, her prototype initially intended to include fashions representing Turkey, Bangladesh, and Indonesia. However, these concepts never made it to final release, and we unfortunately have no photos of what they would have looked like.
Tumblr media
Her initial lineup consisted of four dolls: herself, her male Arabic friend Jamil, her Indian friend Sunayana, and her Egyptian friend Kareema.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamila means "beautiful", and she seems to have only really been released with one outfit. She wore a black abaya with silver detailing with black shoes, and underneath wore a light blue tanktop with a white pencil skirt. Like her friends Sunayana and Kareema, Jamila has dark hair, brown eyes, and henna on her hands and feet.
(Credit to Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For those unaware, Henna is a form of body decoration which originated from Africa and the Middle East, used with a natural dye from the Mehendi (lawsonia inermis). It is commonly tied to religious ceremonies such as engagements, weddings, Diwali, and Eid!
For Eid Al-Fitr, Henna would be applied towards the end of Ramadan as a symbol of the earthly delight of being alive. Jamila (and Sunayana if we're to believe they had identical Henna) seems to have eye imagery in hers, which represents protection from evil thoughts or wishes. It's also found on the top of her hands, also symbolizing protection, and on her feet, meant to soothe the nerves.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The name Jamil means "handsome". Jamil was initially released clean-shaven, but it seems later releases gave him facial hair. This might have been around the same time he was changed from Jamila's male friend to her husband, likely because (although opposite-sex friendships aren't explicitly forbidden) certain Muslims worry such friendships might result in inappropriate romantic thoughts. While this doesn't seem to be a unanimous belief across the board (many believing opposite-sex friendships are fine so long as you're careful), it might have caused enough controversy that Simba felt the need to marry the two so there weren't any implications. (Credit to Jan Unwichtig and Bababolond on Flickr for the images)
Ngl tho he is giving me major Kenergy...
Tumblr media
Jamil comes with a white Thobe with silver buttons, a white Serwal ( undergarments traditionally worn beneath the Thobe), a white cotton undershirt, a white headscarf known as a Ghutra (tied with a black band called the Egal), black sandals, and a small dagger.
I'm actually not sure why his doll comes with a knife? The closest I could find was the Kirpan: a knife or sword which serves as a reminder to promote justice and protect the weak, mandatory for Amritdhari Sikhs to wear at all times. However, although non-Muslims sometimes confuse the two, Sikhism is a completely separate religion from Islam.
If anyone knows what this knife might be intended to represent, please let me know and I'll reblog an edit to this post!
Tumblr media
After they were married, Jamila and Jamil had two children: Asad (meaning "Lion") and Almira (meaning "Princess"), both seen in the first illustration on this post. However, I can only seem to find one doll release for their daughter Almira, and none for Asad. Jamila comes in this playset in her base outfit, while her daughter (who cries when you press her stomach) wears pink pajamas. The playset includes a crib and several plastic accessories, including two hair brushes, a blow drier, and a baby bottle. Not only is this only release for Almira, but this also seems to be the only other release for Jamila aside from her initial core doll.
Tumblr media
Sunayana means "woman with lovely eyes". She has long braided black hair, wearing a blue Lehenga Choli with a yellow Dupatta. Like Jamila, she also has henna on her hands and feet. She wears silver bangles, a silver necklace, and what I believe might be a Maang Tikka. Based on her images on the back of the doll boxes, I'm fairly certain she came wearing yellow sandal heels as well!
Honestly she might be one of my favorites of the line, since you sadly don't see many culturally-accurate Indian dolls compared to other ethnic groups. I especially love the use of color, and just how much jewelry she comes with!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Finally we have Jamila's Egyptian friend Kareema, whose name means "generous" or "kind". She has pale pink undergarments painted on beneath her clothes, which I assume Jamila has as well. Weirdly enough, however, she doesn't seem to have Henna like the other two.
Like Sunayana and Jamila she has long black hair, which is kept beneath a white hijab. She wears a long blue overcoat, matching jeans, blue shoes, and a multicolored striped shirt. As far as I can tell, her clothing doesn't seem to have Egyptian cultural roots like Sunayana's has Indian, however her modest style of dress and hijab are common for most Muslim women.
I've been meaning to make this post for at least a full week, and it's nice to finally get to share another beautiful yet obscure Muslim doll! It's a shame this doll didn't have more releases, since I'm honestly curious with the direction the might have taken with her and her friends based on the prior illustration! Regardless, I'm happy I got to share her and her friends with you all :)
Ramadan Kareem!

Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Drake Mallard with their kids support Palestine in Jerusalem - Happy Eid al-Adha - Happy Father's Day! - Duck comics, Ducktales and Darkwing Duck - Duckverse
I wish all Muslims who celebrate a happy Eid! That is, Eid al-Adha. In addition to Eid al-Fitr, one of the biggest Muslim holidays when the Hajj begins and the day of offering to God as well as the remembrance of the deceased. On those days, sacrificial meat is cut, especially meat related to Eid al-Adha. It is celebrated because on that day, Abraham was supposed to sacrifice his son at God's command until the Archangel Gabriel (Jibril among Muslims) intervened, so Abraham (Ibrahim among Muslims) instead slaughtered a ram as a thanksgiving sacrifice to God the creator. An animal (mainly a lamb) is sacrificed and the meat itself is sacrificed and divided into three parts. The family keeps one third; the second third is given to relatives, friends and neighbors; the third third is given to the poor and vulnerable.
Today is also Father's Day, which is celebrated every third Sunday in June in America and around the world, while in some countries, Father's Day varies from country to country. So Happy Father's Day to all fathers, uncles and grandfathers.
On this occasion and because of current events, I drew Donald Duck, Daisy Duck and Drake Mallard with their children holding Palestinian flags. I am not in the habit of promoting anyone like this, nor am I on anyone's side but the right side, but a great tragedy is happening in Palestine, especially in Gaza where people are dying en masse, especially women and children. And not only Muslims, but also Palestinian Christians (Catholics and Orthodox), with whom I most identify and sympathize. However, many people send through their mobile phones what is happening and most people are engaged to help them as well as about the crimes committed against them. I'm just against such injustice so I drew this, of course they are in Jerusalem where they defend the Golden Dome of the Rock as well as Al Aqsa, important Muslim temples because that's where Muhammad ascended to heaven. A certain group of orthodox and ultra Jews want to destroy it in order to build their temple, and for me as a Christian, this is unacceptable, especially considering that their messiah is a Christian Antichrist, but that is a long story to tell. Certainly, after Gaza, the next goal is Jerusalem and the expulsion of Muslims from that city as well as Christians, and I am against that and that injustice, and I am asking people to get involved in this and to help people as much as possible, regardless of whether through prayers, petitions or sending donations. Like sending real food, not toys. And no, I'm not for Hezbollah or the terrorists, but for the common people who are suffering from it, and they need a lot of help. Here's one way to help: https://afsc.org/news/6-ways-you-can-support-palestinians-gaza
Of course, support drawings like this mean nothing, but they mean moral support and will definitely not stop the current genocide that is happening, but it can help you know what it is about and spread the message to others. And if someone asks me, a lot of Jews who advocate for a Palestinian state are in solidarity with Muslims and Christians and are against the evil that is happening. So spread the word, so they know what's going on.
Yes, I drew Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Drake Mallard, Huey, Dewey and Louie Duck and Gosalyn Mallard from Darkwing Duck fighting wrongdoing and defeating the evil in Jerusalem with unity and harmony against the evil happening in Gaza. Of course I drew in my own way in the classic version. My only apology is that Daisy is not wearing a headscarf, my fault.
And not only in Palestine, but all over the world where injustice is done. Rest in peace to those people who have suffered so far, amen.
And I hope you liked this drawing and if you support this, and who support Palestine, please like and reblog this! Just don't use my same ideas without mentioning me, thanks! I also wish all Muslims a Happy Eid al-Adha and a Happy Father's Day to all fathers, uncles and grandfathers! Yes, Donald Duck is a great uncle to his nephews, just as Drake Mallard is a great father to his daughter.

Overview
The M69 (Obr.69) uniform, part of the 1969 Uniform reforms for the Soviet Armed Forces, included Summer and Winter variants. Summer uniforms, made from M43/Obr.43 Gymnastyorka material, featured branch-specific insignia for garrison duty. In 1973, the uniform was updated with thicker cotton and "CA" shoulder boards. The Winter version, made from Wool Gaberdine, was worn with Ushanka hats and full insignia. Troops in hot climates had Tropical versions, and a Dress version was used for formal occasions. Standard until the late 1980s, it was eventually replaced by the M88/Obr.88 "Afghanka" pattern. I Must say it was My Personal Favorite Of Soviet Outfit After Gymnastyorka and Afghanka Despite This one Less Popular Than The two.

HEADWEAR
Thank you For @sarkana-sims For Lending some of Her OC to me for become A Showcasing Model!
Tumblr media
Soviet Army Peaked Cap: Intially worn just by Motorized Rifle generals, this pattern and color combination expanded in 1980 to include Medical, Veterinary, Intendance and Special Troops' generals. Externally virtually identical to a standard officer's service cap; it differs only in the all-gilt cockade and the general style buttons. Inspection of the inside construction - with its kid leather sweatband with interweaved ribbon, silk (or rayon) lining, and manufacturer's label - is a more certain means of identification. Note that you will sometimes see these general-grade caps with the standard officer cockade and star-embossed buttons, probably indicating use by colonels anticipating promotion! Although really any officer could wear these if they wanted to pay for the higher quality
Tumblr media
M35 Pilotka:The M35 Pilotka is a type of military cap used by the Soviet Union during the mid-20th century. It was introduced in 1935 and became a standard part of the Soviet uniform during World War II. The Pilotka features a soft, foldable design with a small visor at the front and is typically made of wool. It often included a red star insignia on the front to signify its Soviet origin. The Pilotka was worn by enlisted personnel and officers across various branches of the Soviet Armed Forces. Officers Variation Exist Featuring more Extravagants Insignia apart from Standard Red Star with Hammer & Sickle:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SSh-40 Combat Helmet: The SSh-40 is like the classic car of Soviet helmets, a true workhorse that saw action during World War II and beyond. It's that iconic steel dome-shaped headgear you often see in old war footage. Made of good ol' sturdy steel, it offered decent protection against shrapnel and small arms fire. Plus, it had those distinctive flared-out sides to cover your ears, giving you that unmistakable Soviet soldier look. It might not have been the most comfortable thing to wear, but hey, it did the job, and it looked badass while doing it. This Particular Model Is Got Strapped off Above the head.
Thank you!

In honor of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, I would like to dedicate a post to ways we can help women around the world facing genocide and gender based violence. Below are a list of organizations and groups to donate to focused on bettering the lives of and providing direct aid to women and girls in areas of conflict. This is an evolving list/resource so I will gladly take suggestions or edit requests from anyone who knows of a verified group helping women and girls that could be added to this list.
Access to Menstrual Products and Repro Healthcare
Sudan, Palestine, DRCongo, Lebanon
Sudan
Periods don’t stop for war: For every $5 Donated a woman or girl in Sudan receives a menstrual hygiene kit for the month
Let's Talk Period: As disposable menstrual hygiene products are too expensive for most women, grassroots groups have popped up to make, distribute, and educate other women and girls on how to make their own reusable pads.
Sudan Charity Navigator: A list of charities including Doctors Without Borders and food assistance groups providing aid to Sudan
Darfur Women Action Group: DWAG advocates for the protection of civilians, promotes women’s leadership, provides elementary education for children in refugee camps, and provides trauma counseling for survivors of sexual violence
Amal for Women: Amal For Women was able to help people in Al-Jazeera state, Darfur and refugees in Egypt. GoFundMe/PayPal doesn’t release the funds raised until the 25th of March. Please consider donating to reach more people the rest of Ramadan and Eid. Other donation links and more info here
Palestine
Pious Projects: "At $20 each, this kit will include - but is not limited to - sanitary pads, a hair brush, tooth brush, toothpaste, cotton swabs, wipes, tissues, and other hygienic items depending on availability. Distributions will take place in various areas accessible to on-ground teams such as camps in Rafah and UN schools."
Anera: there’s a list of things certain amounts of money can get the people of Palestine, $10 can get a family a blanket for winter, $40 can provide hygiene kits that include menstrual products, and $75+ can get people a mattress and more
Arab.Org: Free daily clicks generate ad revenue that goes to UNRWA. This link in particular shows you a full list of specific projects in need of funds you can also give to with a click from poverty to the environment to a fund focused on women.
DRCongo
City of Joy: “The City of Joy is a transformational leadership community for women survivors of violence, located in Bukavu, Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Conceived, owned, and run by local Congolese, the City of Joy has flourished since it first opened its doors in June 2011, healing women from their past trauma through therapy and life skills programming while providing them with the essential ingredients needed to move forward in life – love and community.”
Panzi Foundation: “Every day, between 5 and 7 new survivors walk through our doors. For 20 years, we’ve not only mended each woman’s injuries, we’ve walked with them to healing—every step of the way.”

I just saw that Ahmed Alkhatib is speaking at a synagogue in Berkeley on Friday?! He's my fourth- or fifth-favorite Palestinian activist!! He's speaking with an expert on Palestinian trauma! I have zero idea what they're going to talk about beyond that!
This is what he says is his "platform," which is so long I'm gonna paste it into a reblog:
Tumblr media
AND FOR THE CURIOUS, YOU CAN ZOOM IN AT 8 PM ON FRIDAY WITHOUT EVEN RSVPing: https://zoom.us/j/8781040
He has had a LOT of trouble connecting with the Pro-Palestine movement and finding people who'll listen to him, much less who will center and support his work as an activist from Gaza.
So share this with all your pro-Palestinian friends!
I WOULD just assume it's like... a general talk about All The Shit. But I heard this week that a coalition of Gazan activists has been working on a plan for self-rule in Gaza.
I don't know if he's involved in that; I'm behind on all this. They're not in the same activist circles, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. But obviously it makes me curious about whether that will come up.
(OK, I know you want to know the top 5. It currently goes: Hamza Howidy at the top with a big gold star for pieces like this:
Then Bassem Eid; Moumen al-Natour; Mo Ghaoui; Ahmed Alkhatib. Those are all very close rankings that shift all the time. Even now, I'm mentally flipping 4 and 5 back and forth. And 2 and 3.
The Center for Peace Communications deserves a mention too. It's based in NYC, but it's devoted to giving the people of Gaza a way for their voices to safely be heard.)
This is what the synagogue event page says:
Potluck oneg after services, followed by HeartSpace at 8pm, featuring a discussion and Q+A with Palestinian political analyst Ahmed Alkhatib and Palestinian trauma expert Dr. Niveen Rizkalla.
As we approach the one-year anniversary of the deadly Hamas attacks on October 7 and grapple with the ongoing violence and devastation in Israel-Palestine, join us in our efforts to hold multiple perspectives with nuance and complexity, part of our ongoing HeartSpace series showcasing diverse voices from the region.
Ahmed Alkhatib is a nonresident senior fellow with the Scowcroft Middle East Security Initiative at the Atlantic Council’s Middle East Programs. He is also an American writer and analyst who grew up in Gaza City, having left in 2005 as a teenage exchange student to the United States.
He writes extensively on Gaza’s political and humanitarian affairs and has been an outspoken critic of Hamas and a promoter of coexistence and peace as the only path forward between Palestinians and Israelis.
Alkhatib has a bachelor’s degree in business administration and a master’s degree in intelligence and national security studies. His writing has been published in US and Israeli outlets, and his opinions and comments have been featured in international press. Click here for more information and to support Ahmed’s peacebuilding efforts"
Dr. Niveen Rizkalla is a postdoctoral research fellow at UC Berkeley’s Mack Center for Mental Health and Social Conflict. She specializes in research related to trauma, including PTSD, vicarious and secondary traumatization, victims of torture and war, and gender-based violence. She is also working on the mental health of Syrian refugees and the staff who assist them.
Her most recent project delves into the physical and mental health of aid workers who assist traumatized populations (refugees, conflict, and natural disasters) in Asia, Africa, Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

Posted @withregram • @naz_hashem Speaking to the Islamic Center of Southern California, during Eid-al Fitr Service 2016 broadcasted live, Kamala Harris says;
“We should have the courage to object when they use that term ‘radical Islamic terrorism.’”
She further continues to say that “they are the greatest victims of terror.”
Kamala Harris is affiliated with NIAC, a pro-Khamenei lobby group for the Islamic Republic which promotes the regime’s interests on the international stage.
This is beyond concerning.
Full speech available on Kamala Harris’s
Facebook page.
🇺🇸
—-(end original caption) —
Kamala Harris is unqualified to be president.
She’s also someone who dangerous extreme views as is clear from this speech have in July of 2016. She’s made it abundantly clear that she is not a friend of the Jewish community, as she has sided with the pro Hamas protesters who have targeted Jewish students on campus.
Based on what she’s saying here, she also is perfectly comfortable defending actual terrorists from criticism.

my job is really weird in the sense that i run a food pantry on a college campus and the students can work there and take from it too so i made sure to get a bunch of halal snacks so students staying past sunset for class could eat for iftar and when i told the Muslim student association so they could promote it this they were excited but they also were like wait we have a food pantry wtf. and then they were like wait how do you know about iftar. and then i had to explain how one of my best friends is a 36 year old syrian refuge mother of four and how i celebrate certain holidays at her house like eid and stuff bc we're friends and then that led me to explain how i sometimes go to my best friend's house for the jewish holidays and how i also celebrate the wiccan holidays with another friend and that I'm going to an ostara ritual on sunday and my family is still catholic and i went to catholic school and thus have to celebrate those holidays and i do this all while being transgender. anyways my life is a little weird and i forget the point of this post.

A fandom person had a post a few weeks ago & whether they were joking or not I thought it was a great idea… they said next year Eid should bring on Tracy & Jesse in a cameo in FBI & write that they’re back together or something. My question is would that be possible? Not the fact Eid would want to do it as would Trasse & a deal would have to be made for them… let’s say that’s all good, but would NBC allow it since FBI is on CBS? Does NBC hold any rights to the characters or is that all Wolf & if it is Wolf it wouldn’t matter as long as the other parties are in? I know it’s a long shot, but I’d love to know if it could be done lol! Thanks!
This is so hard to say an outright "no" to (though I want to) because I'm aware Tracy has appeared on FBI before, but that was to cover Missy Peregrym's maternity leave and cross promotion for both Wolf shows so I'm going to file that under completely different circumstances.
Generally speaking, characters don't have individual copyrights. They belong to the bigger work as a whole, rather than as a la carte options. The ownership of the work belongs to the production company, in this case Wolf Ent, so the decisions would run through them.
I think you're asking if it's possible logistically without taking into account the human side of the people making those decisions, and I really don't think the two can be separated. Logistically, a lot of things are possible with negotiations. The people who are doing the negotiating are important, though. Personally, I don't think Wolf cares enough to make something like this happen. If he was super concerned about Jay and Hailey's ending, he could step in now as Gwen's boss. I don't think Eid cares either, at least not enough to do this. I know people have suggested he is angry that they've ruined Jay or he is shaking his fist at the sky because Burzek is together, but he has a whole other show with a whole new cast of characters to worry about. His attention is likely elsewhere. Add in the cost of bringing both Tracy and Jesse to guest star on a show that is not their own, and it's just not something I see happening.
I'm not sure if this answers your question at all, and I'm not trying to crush hope here. I just think it's important to look beyond "is it possible?" in a case like this. Possible on paper? Maybe. But these decisions aren't made by themselves so you have to look at the personal and business side, and every sign points to no for me.

Basics
Full Name: Hanna Mazal Anderson
FC: Alia Shawkat
Age/DOB: 35 / January 27th, 1989
Zodiac: Aquarius
Occupation: Cosmetologist/Manager @ Shaya & Co.
Living Arrangements: 1 bedroom 1 bathroom apartment w/ balcony in Midtown
Sexuality: Bisexual
Secret: TBA
Biography in the read more! TW: Death in family
Hanna Anderson doesn’t remember much about the home city she was born in, Chicago, since she moved to Wilmington, NC when she was 2 years old. Wilmington was what Hanna considered her hometown. She grew up in a ranch style 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom house with 2 acres of land in the Masonboro neighborhood. Hanna was the second oldest of the five Anderson children. Despite her older brother, Sam, and her having a 3 year age difference, the two were pretty close. Sam was always protective of her, making sure she kept away from trouble and did her homework. When she was old enough to, Hanna offered to do what she could to help her parents, learning to cook and clean among other things alongside her mother. Being so close to her mother was how Hanna came to love doing hair. She followed her mom to various houses of family friends to watch how she cut and styled everyone’s hair. Hanna’s mother was raised muslim, so the Anderson household grew up eating a halal diet (no pork, no animal shortening, no alcohol). They celebrated all holidays including Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha, though religion was not strictly enforced by her parents. Hanna was never very religious, but went through the motions for her mother’s happiness.
Growing up, Hanna’s father was away from home often due to being in medical school. He was determined to make a good living for his family, which is something Hanna admired about him. Despite having to work so much, her father was always around for the major events. That included when Hanna graduated high school at the top of her class. However, her father never agreed with her choice of college: Aveda Institute Wilmington to study Cosmetology. It was her dream, but her father never agreed with it. He tried his best to be supportive, but also secretly somewhat hated it. Hanna’s mother, on the other hand, found her choice inspiring and decided to open a beauty salon in midtown Wilmington called Shaya & Co. Her mom always loved doing hair and figured the town could use a good place to get pampered up. A year later when she was 19, Hanna graduated from cosmetology school with her father not showing up for once... Figuring it was time to leave the nest and get away from pain, Hanna left her parent’s house in search of a new home. She found a 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom with a small balcony in midtown, not too far from her mother’s salon actually, and claimed it as hers. Hanna started working in her mother’s salon shortly after moving. Even though her relationship with her father was strained now, her mother still wanted to help her as much as she could.
Customers started to love Hanna at Shaya & Co. and began requesting her. Her mother loved seeing her little girl excel so well at the craft and named her the shop manager within her first year of working. Some would say it was because Hanna was her daughter, but Hanna knew it was her hard work that got her the promotion. At age 21, she was now a boss babe as she dreamed of being. Yet, a piece of her was missing… Her father had still never apologized for missing her graduation from cosmetology school. In fact, there were no words from him in the past several years. It hurt to miss her father, but at least Hanna still had her mother and siblings. They just celebrated holidays without their father… For 4 years at least until finally their father made a change. He decided to step back from being chief surgeon at the hospital and just became an attending surgeon, working less hours to be with the family more. And, her father also showed up for Hanna’s 25th birthday to apologize. Finally, the Anderson family was healing from the past and moving forward.
5 years passed, during which Hanna lived a pretty normal life. She worked at the salon, hung out with friends and family, enjoyed the little moments in life with those she loved, etc. When the news came that her older brother was killed during a work mission in Syria, the female realized how short life was. The past 30 years went by and she had never admitted to even herself that she was bisexual. She knew that fact since age 12 but never dared to voice it aloud. Although, for fear of ruining a relationship with her parents, she kept it a secret. Due to no one knowing, she only dated boys. Until she met the woman she thought she would marry and spend the rest of her life with, Sloane. Hanna was willing to risk it all for her and told her family about her sexuality. She finally admitted at age 30 who she really was. To her surprise, her family was supportive, even her father. She was so grateful for that, not wanting to go back to not speaking to her dad for years again. Sloane and Hanna got engaged within two months of meeting. Maybe it was the recent grief of losing her brother or maybe it was just as that saying said ‘when you know, you know’.
Whatever the case, Hanna was on cloud nine, finding such happiness from the fullness of her life with her fiance now included. That happiness was short-lived when she caught Sloane cheating. Hanna immediately called off the engagement and cut all ties with the woman. Since that heartbreak, Hanna never got close to anyone again. She had some flings, some hookups, some non-sober mistakes, but the female vowed to never have a serious relationship again. Hanna was happy now to avoid utter humiliation and any heartbreak by finding joy in the life of family, friends, work, and little moments. Of course, that meant the romance department of her life was pretty bare nowadays.

Happy Eid al-Fitr, everyone!
Tumblr media
I've had so much fun looking into Muslim dolls and culture this month, and with how much more there is left to cover I look forward to continuing to do so in the future!
For anyone unfamiliar, here's a rundown of the dolls shown above from left to right:
𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐝𝐚 ~ The line she's from, "Saghira", is unfortunately one of the Muslim dolls I didn't have the time to make a post on this month. Made to reflect Moroccan fashions and culture in 2007.
𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐥 ~ From the doll line "Arabian Friends", released by Newboy in 2007.
𝐉𝐚𝐟𝐫𝐚 ~ A doll which celebrates the beauty of Palestinian culture, whose dolls each wear an embroidered thobe. Released in 2016.
𝐅𝐮𝐥𝐥𝐚 ~ The most popular Muslim doll to date, and Barbie's main competitor in the Middle East. Released in 2003 by Newboy.
𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐥𝐚 ~ Released in 2006 by Simba Toys Middle East, she and her friends show the fashions of various cultures.
𝐑𝐚𝐳𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐞 ~ Created by Muslim couple Ammar and Noor Saadeh in 1996. Made to promote inner value, education, religion, and career aspiration in Muslim girls.
𝐔𝐦𝐦 𝐀𝐦𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐡 ~ A cultural education tool for children, teaching the practice of Salah. Created in 2023 by family-owned company Allova.
I wish you all a wonderful time with your loved ones, and may you only know peace and happiness!
