expensive for sure but my cats love earthborn organics. if that’s an option for you. cat food is so expensive.
i had my cat on purina pro plan since my gf is allergic which is why it sucks that this is happening therefore not a stranger to pricey cat food. i might go with hills initially but it’s nice to have somethin else in my back pocket if morticia rejects it. also prob gonna look into eggshell powder as a replacement if just the shampoo isn’t enough to keep the allergies at bay
so expensive but anything to keep my two fave gals healthy and comfortable 🥲

The Food and Drug Administration says more than 130 deaths and 220 illnesses in dogs may have been caused by the dog food brand Midwestern Pet Foods, after inspections "revealed evidence of significant violations" of food safety regulations.
In a warning letter sent to the pet food manufacturer, the FDA said the inspection had found high levels of aflatoxin, a poisonous substance produced by certain molds that can cause illness and death in pets.
More at the link.
---------
Here are their brands:
CanineX, Earthborn Holistic, Venture, Unrefined, Sportmix Wholesomes, Pro Pac, Pro Pac Ultimates, Sportstrail, Sportmix and Meridian.
According to the article it's just dry dog food that's contaminated, but I wouldn't be willing to give anything in those brands to a pet, cat or dog, after reading this. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
Please reblog to save a life!

A friend asked B and I to go to Retail Rebel with her today. I wasn't going to go, because crowd's and noise make me panicky as hell of late. Plus I knew that I'd be sore afterwards.
So the one we went to is in MO, which has no mask mandates and 90% of the people under 60 didn't have masks on, it made it nice to see people and their faces uncovered.
The crowd was mostly calm, very polite and even sweet. Our friend (R) wanted a massage gun so bad. We'd picked full carts and then went to sort things. And a Hispanic family was testing a massage gun he'd picked out - he had 4 in his cart. Most people there go for the buy & flip concept. He was going to sell them. My friend had 4 purses or backpacks in her cart. They exchanged one of his massage guns for one of her backpacks.
So she got what she was after.
We got a year's supply of chocolate calcium supplements (retail is $140) $10
a charging organizer stand (retail $60) $10
Earthborn Holistic dry cat food (retail around $70 locally) -$26 paid
12lbs of Barilla Pasta retail $8 - paid $3.25
Nutrical - retail $10.50 - paid $3.75
3 box equivalent multi grain cheerios - retail $9 - paid $4
2 big things of spice blends we use individual spices for all the time for $7 each
Big container of vinegar powder Retails for $15, paid $2.80
A years supply of scotchbrite scrub sponges for $4 (24 sponges)
And I picked up 3 diamond painting kits for $10 total that retail individually for $14 each.
I'm actually glad I did go and didn't hide in my anxiety hole in the basement at home.

We might be getting a Golden Retriever puppy soon!! I’ve been wondering what dog food would be best for her. Our vet says that the Purina ProPlan (Which our cats eat) is healthy but I keep seeing stuff about Purina being bad. So I’m a little confused there.
awesome!!! I do love goldens
I’d start by figuring out what your breeder/rescue is feeding, you wanna transfer puppy slowly if you decide to switch foods bc puppy tummies are sensitive. Make sure to have enough of the original food on hand to properly transfer, enough for about 2-3 weeks.Purina ProPlan is a great food, its affordable and will serve your dog well through all life stages, it meets AFFCO standards. If you fed your dog purina proplan you wouldn’t be hurting your pup at all.
I believe that fundamentally the weird “if you don't spend x amount on a fancy food” thing is firmly grounded in classism and elitism. I def bought into it for a time. The whole grain-free foods are causing DCM is honestly equally horrifying, just for a different reason. The science is terrible (yes the “science” done by the FDA), its completely unfounded, and its being pushed through by competing dog food companies. Don’t let it worry you. Feed the pup in front of you! You won’t really know what works best for your dog until you talk to the breeder/rescue about what they’ve been feeding and how its been working, what their other dogs are on etc.https://huskyhuddle.tumblr.com/post/185966300553/how-do-you-feel-about-the-fda-statement-that-dogsI’mma make a list of some of the foods I like, that I’ve fed etc, but feed what works for your dog. I’ll bold what I have personally fed to my dogs.

Proper Care for your Pets During the Pandemic
The coronavirus pandemic has caused a lot of struggle for tsp cleaner around the globe – the economic shutdown has left people financially stranded, and scrambling for ways and means to cope with forced resignations and separations. But tsp cleaner setbacks, it’s the mental and emotional toll that this is taking on individuals whether old or young, that can be a bigger cause for alarm. Mental health is at an all-time low, and the grief for the way things used to be has been devastating for a lot of people.
Social contact has been cheap thermal curtains pertinent things that have been taken away from our emotional diets – and this has led people to turn to the people they live with to fill the void. But apart from striving to be ever more connected to housemates, there has also been an increase in attachment to one’s pets for refuge, therapy and stability, with pet adoptions seeing an increase in society cheap thermal curtains .
With this being the trend, it is best to remember that even our pets may be feeling the change in the atmosphere too. It would be wise to give more attention to taking extra care of them now – the need for nurturing can only be beneficial if it is a two-way street.
Here are the thermal curtains you need to remember in taking proper care of your pet – newly adopted or otherwise – as we all go through this pandemic and the accompanying quarantines and lockdowns together:
Make sure your pet is still being fed the proper diet.
Though you may be tempted to stock up on the most amount of food for the least amount of money, this thermal curtains be the least healthy option for your dog, with kibble of this variety tending to have more extenders and preservatives in them. It is best to pick more nutrient-filled alternatives for your dog – those that supply a more balanced diet for better nutrition and immunity. There are brands such as Earthborn Holistic that you can check out for your needs, if you can’t prepare a home-cooked meal every time for your pets.
Let your pet have some sun.
Your feline or canine companions still need some Vitamin D, just like us humans, so it would be good to set a schedule where they can be out in the sun for an adequate amount of time every day. Since it is best to get exposure in earlier parts of the day, hit two birds with one stone by making it a habit to be out with your pet at this time of the day as well.
Set your dog or cat free – let him/her roam around as much as possible.
Staying in a cage isn’t going to do any good for you or your pets. Make sure they get to roam around and bond with you and your family with thermal curtains of touch and snuggling. This is mutually therapeutic for both you and your pet.
If you can, let them socialize with other animals as well.
If you have multiple pets at home, it would be good that you let them get friendly with one another or at least socialize with one another during this quarantine, as they can’t do much of that with other animals for this period. If you can bring them out to the neighborhood and if it’s safe to thermal curtains of other neighbors, then you can set some time for this as well.
These are just some ways you can take proper care of your pet during these uncertain times. Remember that they can also feel anxiety just like you, so do your part in treating them as humanely and as equitably as possible. Their good mood can likewise uplift you when you yourself are feeling a bit down from all this disengagement from the outside world.

Sorry if you stated specific brands before, but what are the best brands of cat food to get? It's still awhile before I can get cats since I have to settle into my house first but I really want to make sure I do things right. Gotta get everything 100% ready for a cat before i get the cat. I just don't quite know what to look for in food? Aside from no carbs and meat being the first ingredients. Ik I'll have to try different flavors no matter what though.
Orijen & Acana (same company) are often considered some of the best, but they’re pricey too. I think Go!, Wellness, and Earthborn Holistic were all ones that looked good to me as well. And ZiwiPeak is another that is really good, but very expensive.
Those brands are all from looking at dry foods for my cat, by the way. If you’re getting kibble, you won’t find anything with no carbs - they need carbs to hold it together. It’d be better to feed wet if you can, but that can be difficult sometimes, depending on the cat, your schedule, budget, etc.
In general, lower quality canned is still preferable to even higher quality kibble - since canned doesn’t need carbs to hold it together, the ingredients are usually not too horrible, even in lower quality brands. It does kind of vary though. The main things to avoid in canned food are grains, dyes, and carrageenan. Avoid fruits/veggies too, if you can, as they’re unnecessary. I’m not as familiar with wet food brands because I had to rule out a TON while searching due to my picky girl only accepting chunks (no pate). I’m using Under the Sun and Nature’s Variety for wet food right now.
If you want to learn more about ingredients & how to read a label, I really like this site - http://www.dogfoodproject.com/ The links in the second section on the left, from Introduction to Ingredients to Avoid, are all good to read.
For cats specifically, there’s a TON of information here - https://catsindoors.weebly.com/nutrition.html It’s a lot & might be a bit overwhelming though, if you’re already unsure.
Also the most important thing to remember with cats: feed what they’ll eat. The best food in the world is useless to them if they won’t eat it. And cats are often quite picky about their foods - everything from smell to shape to flavor to texture can matter sometimes. So basically it comes down to, do a bit of reading to get an idea of what to aim for, try to offer the best quality that you can afford, but most importantly, find what your cat will eat (and does well on).
Also kudos on doing all your research & preparation before getting your new friend!! :) I’m sure you’ll be a great kitty owner. Let me know if I can help with anything else! ♥

Pet Food News
I looked at pet foods again to try and get Nicholas's weight up. I thought y’all might be interested in what I found out.
General Mills Completes Acquisition of Blue Buffalo Pet Products
Nestle Purina Buys Merrick Pet Care. (This happened in 2015, but is news to me.)
Merrick Pet Care wet and dry products include:
Castor and Pollux Natural Ultramix
Castor and Pollux Organix
Merrick Backcountry
Merrick Classic
Merrick Grain Free
Whole Earth Farms
The reason this is bad news is that big corporations have a history of doing this to nutritious independent brands, and changing the recipes for cheaper, unhealthy ingredients from China without telling the consumer, (China has a notorious history of tainted ingredients that have caused thousands and thousands of pet deaths.), and still charging the same higher prices for them. Big AG bribed congress so that the nutritional analysis on pet foods is meaningless, BTW.
A good rule of thumb for cat food is too make sure the first three ingredients listed are protein. You don’t want to give them fish all the time either because our oceans are so polluted most fish contain unsafe levels of mercury etc.
Lawsuits filed against Champion Pet Food, Acana and Orijen, for heavy metals and toxins found in the food. Lawsuits are for both dog and cat foods.
Solid Gold Pet Food Class Action Lawsuit for heavy metals and toxins in the pet foods.
If you’re trying to get your cat to lose weight, I found out Soulistic Originals canned food is generally a little lower in calories than other brands. Based on the ingredients I think some of their flavors would be too high in carbs, but others look good. (The calorie count on the package on all pet foods is listed as lower than it actually is though due to congress allowing pet food companies to lie about it.)
I give Nicholas Nature’s Variety Instinct Original dry, and used to give him fancy feast wet. I’d read that any wet food was better than the best dry food on more than one reputable site, so I thought that was okay. After reading about all the euthanasia drug found in pet foods making pets sick and even killing them several months ago, (meaning they’re putting euthanized dogs and cats in the food), I switched to the Instinct Original wet food too. They’re independently owned, and made in the US. AFAIK it hasn’t been found in purina foods, (They own fancy feast.), but I wasn’t willing to take a chance.
ETA - I also found out Weruva, b.f.f., Applaws, and Earthborn Holistic's, Tiki Cat and Soulistic are made in Thailand. That of course doesn’t mean they aren’t safe. It’s just isn’t something I was aware of. I don’t know about Tiki Cat, but I think the others used to be made in the US.
ETA 2 - Petcurean Go! Fit + Free looks great based on the research I’ve done. It’s independently owned, and made in Canada. It’s hard for me to find in stores where I live though.
ETA 3 - WellPet LLC is a pet food company formed by the combination of Wellness Natural Pet Food, Holistic Select Natural Pet Food, Eagle Pack Natural Pet Food and Old Mother Hubbard Natural Dog Snacks, purchased by Berwind Corporation. WellPet is headquartered outside of Boston, in Tewksbury, Massachusetts. Berwind Corporation (also known as Berwind-White Coal Mining Company) is a large privately held American corporation historically involved in the coal industry. Today it is a diversified company involved in property leasing and ownership of unrelated businesses.

Cat Food FAQ
1. Why is it important
to buy my cat different food according to her current life stage?
Like humans, animals have different nutritional needs depending
on their age. As an example, kittens need diets rich in protein and calories in
order to support fast-paced growth and development. Older cats may need
low-calorie food or one with specific nutrients to minimize the risk of
weight-gain and age-related issues. “All life stage” option is not advisable
for certain animals and may have unintended adverse effects. Many dry cat foods
are specifically made for the elder cats, but…Your best bet is to consult with
your veterinarian so he or she can help you make a more informed decision.
2. Should I use the
feeding recommendations on the food label?
While helpful as general guidelines, feeding recommendations on
the bag labels may not be the right fit for your feline depending on her age,
overall health status, and lifestyle, so consult with your vet.
3. Is my pet
overweight?
There are a few ways to tell:
Run your hands along her flank—you should be able to easily feel
but not see her ribs.Look down at your feline from above—there should be a clear
narrowing at the waist.Look at your kitty from the side—you should see a narrowing from
this angle, too.
4. Can my kitty have
“people” food?
Avoid the temptation to slip her scraps from your plate. Aside
from the risk of accidentally giving her something toxic, giving your feline
small treats can easily lead to weight gain and nutrient imbalances.
5. Can Cat food go Bad?
This depends on the food and the way it’s stored:
All feline
food should be used before the expiration date on the label. If your
kitty is “free feed,” you can leave her dry granules out as long as it isn’t
moist or exposed to high heat.Canned
food should be thrown away after it’s been left out for 4+ hours, and opened
cans can be stored in the fridge for up to a week.Wash and
refill your pet’s food and water dishes at least weekly.
6. How much should I
feed my cat?
As mentioned, the amount you feed your pet depends on its age,
health status, activity level, and a few other factors. Your vet can help you
determine how much is right for your animal. A typical 10-lb kitty needs
only around 250 calories per day to maintain an appropriate lean body
mass.
P S.
These adult dry foods with real
chicken meats (and other poultry) are
great for your adult cat. You can serve her
this popular chicken meal without
the fear of gaining extra pounds.
7. How much water
should I give her?
Always have fresh water available for your animal! Proper
hydration helps her digest her nutrients and avoid health problems like
dehydration and urinary tract infections.
Important to note that proper hydration is even more important
when the cat is eating only dry cat food.
8. Why does my cat eat
only from the middle of her bowl?
If your cat’s dish is too deep and narrow, then she may struggle
eating out of it because the sides of the dish can cause pain if her
sensitive whiskers bump up against them. To compensate, she may try to eat
out of the center only.
9. Should I change up
my cat’s food from time to time, or keep it the same?
This is highly individual and depends on the unique preferences
and health needs of your furry friend. If you want to change your pet’s
food, do it slowly and introduce new things to her diet in small amounts.
10. When should I
transition my cat from kitten to adult cat food?
Expect to change over your kitten’s food around age one.
Transition slowly and be sure to monitor her response to ensure she’s adjusting
well.
