The Ecocapsule comes clad in an insulated fiberglass, rooftop solar panels, and an aluminum shell with four wheels for easy transport. In addition, it has two hooks on the roof to allow for other transportation options: the pod can be moved or dropped in place via a crane or helicopter.

Although the Ecocapsule has a compact 68-square-foot interior, it feels surprisingly spacious once you're inside. It houses up to two people and includes the necessities: a bathroom with a shower and composting, waterless toilet; a small kitchen area with a sink and two-burner stove; a convertible sofa that folds out to a double bed; desk space; and electric hookups. To power the pod, a fully charged 10kWh battery will last for at least four days with a 2.2 kW per day usage. Best of all, everything is controlled via a smartphone app.

Ecocapsule, home away from home

Aisling frequently travels around Ireland for her work with the Irish crown’s green foundation. She already has three homes which is more than enough for one person. Consequently she refuses to stay at hotels or rent a flat for a short period of time, so she found an alternative solution.

Ecocapsule is a mobile, self-sustainable, smart micro-home. It functions only on clear power, using solar, wind energy and rainwater collection.

It is a Slovakian invention. It is extremely small (8m²). The furniture includes a desk, cabinets, racks, folding bed with mattress, kitchenette cabinets and baggage cabinet. It is equipped with a low-noise wind turbine, high efficiency solar panels on the roof, a passive heat recuperation unit and a water filtration system.

Water is collected, filtered mainly from rainwater (let’s be real Ireland has no shortage of rain). If the need arises it can be collected directly from streams/lakes/rivers or the public water system. 

The ecocapsule is transported on site via a trawler towed by an electric car. Aisling likes to live directly on the beach or on a cliff and walk to wherever she needs to go. She lives in that tiny capsule for the duration of her project. A second ecocapsule housing her security detail is installed close to hers.
