However, the three of them combined have resulted in a truly terrifying Servant, especially as an Avenger.

Possessing black flames that sear corruption, and an incomprehensible sense of luck, Dantes is a Servant that is centered around 'making the impossible, possible'.

The Count of Monte Cristo opinions so far. I read this book too many years ago and it was the abridged version. Now I am reading the 1000+ one and it's a joy so far. Still very engaging. I forgot a lot though.

Edmond Dantès: poor little meow meow that didn't care for politics and got involved in it anyway. So innocent, so pure. I can't wait for him to go apeshit. I can't believe he was only 19 at the start of the book.

Gérard de Villefort: damn, he is a little bit complex, isn't he? He was ready to free Dantès until he reads the letter that incriminates his father and that would look BAD on him. He is selfish and oportunistic, but also cares a bit about his father. He lies to poor Dantes and decides his fate. His father is iconic tbh the way he just changes his appearance so quickly in order to not be recognized and insults the king and his people? Iconic.

Caderousse: I can't help, but like him. He just wants to get drunk and have a good time (and get rich). He genuinely didn't want Dantès to be arrested, but he is too much of a coward to tell people what he knows. Fuck you, Danglars.

Danglars: the least interesting "villain". Just wanted to get a promotion and have Dantès' job. Could manipulate Fernand, but even a monkey could do it so that is not impressive.

Fernand: no thoughts, but Mercedès. A really really dumb man. I don't like him. I can't stand this kind of stupidity. You did all that and for what? Loser behaviour.

Mercedès: Not many thoughts about her, but I teared up when her room is the only light Dantès sees before getting on the boat for the prison, which means she is the only person still awake. Still hoping, still in pain. The tragedy of it.

Gifts Beyond Material

I don't really post here much! Maybe this will change? Regardless, here is a gift fic from a Christmas Exchange for @xviicprc! Apologies for delay, and yes it is about Christmas even though it is not Christmas for most people anymore... Also , sorry my fic titling is uhh bad I suck at coming up with titles.

Fandom: Fate/Grand Order

Summary: Marie loves giving gifts at Christmas, but sometimes struggles with ideas for newer friends. She isn't sure what to get for Edmond, and turns to Mash for advice which leads her to think beyond giving only material items.

Christmas was a favorite time of year for Marie, as the spirit of love and giving was always at its highest during the season. While she certainly didn't need an excuse to give to her loved ones, the dedicated season for it led her to go all out. It wasn't too hard for her to come up with gift ideas for those closest to her, especially the group that seemed to never leave her side. With her shopping habits, she was likely to buy anything she thought that group might like on the spot, with d'Eon benefiting from this more than the rest since it was hard to resist a dress that might look cute on the knight.

Christmas was an opportunity to get presents for even more people. Each year, the number of servants Marie could count as friends rose more and more. She earnestly tried to befriend even the most aloof and curmudgeonly of servants. Sometimes newer friends were harder to give gifts to, as they might not outright discuss likes and dislikes when in each other's company. This was the problem with one such Edmond Dantès. The Avenger had been showing up to the tea parties Marie hosted with some increased frequency, but he wasn't prone to the type of opening up that was related to items he might like.

What sort of gift suited someone primarily defined by vengeance? It felt difficult to get to know what interests he might have due to his manifestation as an Avenger. Though he had certainly become a bit more talkative as he attended more of Marie's functions, she wasn't one to try to force someone to open up beyond their comfort level. Perhaps she could have planned to bring up the idea of what types of presents everyone liked to receive at a social gathering, but it was too late for that. She would have to find another way to get some gift ideas.

While Edmond was not outright unfriendly, Marie really couldn't think of anyone in Chaldea that she would designate as close to him, except possibly for Master, though the thought of asking them for a gift idea felt silly given that something always seemed to come up around Christmas Time that was sure to keep them busy. Instead, Marie decided to consult the Avenger's source material.

Unfortunately, a trip to the library later, Marie realized she would not have enough time to read the entire book in time for Christmas. She checked it out nonetheless as something to work towards in the new year as she was still glad of the opportunity to get to know a new friend even better.

For the time being she would have to turn to another source. Luckily, there was a certain someone at Chaldea who was both well read and fairly approachable.

"What was it you wanted to talk to me about?" Mash asked, smiling gently at Marie.

"I'm trying to think of a good Christmas gift idea for Edmond Dantès, as a sign of our friendship, but I'm having a hard time coming up with ideas. I was hoping your familiarity with the literature he originated from might help with understanding his interests better."

"I see…" Mash paused, pensive. "I could certainly summarize The Count of Monte Cristo for you, but I'm sure you understand enough of the gist of it to come up with an idea yourself. Instead of thinking about what his hobbies, interests, and the like might be, why don't you think about how much you two have in common?

While I know you prefer not to dwell on the bad things in your life, I think it's fair to say you had some similar experiences. If you look at it that way, I think you should be able to come up with an idea that comes from your own heart, rather than just taking an idea from someone else… I hope that wasn't too presumptuous of me to say!"

Marie was silent for some time, thinking over what Mash had said. The girl was soft spoken, yet not afraid to speak her mind. She did have a fair point after all. Marie certainly didn't like to reflect on it, but she had also come up in high society, only to be imprisoned and perhaps even betrayed by her own people in a sense, though she preferred not to think of it that way. The fact that an Avenger version of herself had manifested at one point highlighted the truth in Mash's statement even more.

"I guess you're right," Marie spoke softly, having realized she may have drawn the silence out for an uncomfortable length of time, "Thank you for being so helpful Mash!"

She smiled, hoping to give off her usual peppy energy despite where her thoughts currently lay, "I do feel that I should be able to come up with an idea from my own heart when you put it that way."

"I'm glad you think so!" Mash earnestly smiled back, always happy to be helpful. "I'm still happy to provide input once you get an idea down!"

"That would be lovely, thank you!" And with that, it was time for Marie to get to work. She retreated to her own room, ready to contemplate the aspects of herself that were generally ignored by this manifestation of herself.

She looked around at all of the items she had in her room while reflecting, idly flipping through the pages of the book she’d brought back with her while doing so. Were there material items or activities from high society that one missed more than others upon imprisonment?

It felt silly to think about, since certainly loved ones were the most impactful loss in both her own situation, and presumably in Edmond’s as well. Though in his case, he survived the initial betrayal he had endured, only to face even more from those he had been close to.

It felt harder to relate at this point, but maybe that was the start of a good gift idea… The simple gift of friendship. But what would be the best way to get that across in a physical item? For that, it might be necessary to enlist the help of those closest to her.

Christmas morning at Chaldea was always a lively occasion. Every servant at minimum received gifts from whoever was the year’s designated Santa along with Master, resulting in some level of chaos. Beyond that, most Servants had friendships among each other which led to copious gift giving.

Edmond Dantès had always been in the “only gifts from Santa and Master” group, and even that took some adjusting to over his years at Chaldea. Thus, he was caught off guard as Marie Antoinette, followed by the entire group that always seemed to be in her orbit, approached him with a wrapped package in hand.

“For you!” Marie flashed him her usual beaming smile as she thrust the gift into his hands, gesturing at the group behind her, “from all of us!”

He looked down at the gift and then back up at the expecting pairs of eyes on him, feeling a bit strange opening it under all of their gazes.

Once the gift was freed from its wrapping, he looked back down at it. He was met with the sight of a wooden frame with the text “FRIENDS” carved into it that held a photo of the group that stood watching his reaction, Marie at the front with that same beaming smile. As he looked at the photo in the frame, he saw himself reflected in the glass, a genuine smile forming on his own face.

*if you can't read the text on the signs, they read: (Siegfried) Master used her 4* ticket to get me, (Dantès) I blocked Master from getting Caster Gilgamesh, and (Sigurd) I made Master lose almost all her Saint Quartz.

This was a random thought that I shared with my sis @strea-ultimea, and it just sprawled into this. And yes, these are actual experiences of mine. 😅 I'm not that mad at Siegfried, but I definitely am at Dantès.

It was interesting deciding what colors to use on Dantès, since I can tell his clothing is a really dark green, but the darkest green I have is pine green, so I had to mix the two. There's so much black between these three, by god. Also, this is a better attempt at drawing Sigurd, and I'm very happy that I don't have to draw his mask again (although it was a bit frustrating when drawing his hair, but hey, I was able to do it).
