The good news is that, in 2024, we will kickstart that much needed moment for green mobility.
The International Energy Agency estimates 55 percent of the reductions needed to cut all greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 are linked to everyday consumer choices, particularly driving.
Over two-thirds of consumers cite the lack of electric charging stations as the biggest barrier to buying electric vehicles (EVs). However, new legislation, such as the European Green Deal and universal EV charging standards in the US, will help to put new chargers on the road.
The infrastructure is growing, but the information is still catching up. That’s why, to empower drivers with the information they need, Google has updated its Search experience to make it easier to research the costs and incentives associated with EVs. Google Maps also shows nearby EV chargers and offers eco-friendly routing—providing directions optimized for fuel or battery efficiency. In 2024, drivers will not only be able to more easily purchase an electric vehicle, they will be able to more easily charge them. The theory is simple: When billions of people have the tools to make more informed decisions, meaningful change is possible.

Yet, we cannot focus exclusively on cars—providing sustainable public transport is also vital. Nowhere is the value clearer than in Japan, a leader in high-speed rail. One passenger traveling between Tokyo and Osaka emits 4.2 kilograms of carbon dioxide—one-twelfth the emissions of a passenger on a Tokyo-Osaka flight. That's why it's so important for people to have information on alternative, climate-friendly modes of transport at their fingertips—including comparable train routes, biking, and walking suggestions. This also illustrates the potential impact of projects like the Brightline train, designed to connect Los Angeles and Las Vegas by electric, high-speed rail.
Along with opportunities on roads and rails, in 2024 we will make progress on our skies. Aviation is responsible for 3.5 percent of global warming—35 percent of which is non-emissions related. The culprit? Contrails—the feathery white trails created by airplanes. They may look harmless, but they trap heat inside the Earth’s atmosphere. Using AI-based technology, Google partnered with American Airlines and Breakthrough Energy to reduce contrails by 54 percent—achieving the first proof point of verifiable and cost-effective contrail avoidance. Delta Airlines, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and others are also working to tackle the issue. In 2024, clean mobility will move closer to the norm across transportation, not the exception.

RE Meteor 350 Thoroughly Overhauled
The new Aurora variant of the Meteor 350 comes equipped with spoke wheels and tube tyres, unlike other versions which get alloy wheels and tubeless rubbers.
Moreover, the engine case, exhaust system, and a few other components have been bestowed with chrome finishing. All of this is done to enhance the retro appeal of the bike.

Royal Enfield Meteor 350 Aurora continues to receive the same J-series underpinnings, the 349 cc air-cooled, long-stroke engine, with 20.2 bhp and 2.75 kgm of torque, mated to a five-speed transmission.

With base Fireball trim, Royal Enfield has added a new Black stock colour which is both elegant and standard. Powering RE Meteor 350 is a 349cc J-series single-cylinder, air-cooled motor that kicks out 20.2 bhp at 6100rpm and a peak torque of 27 Nm at 4000rpm.
This unit is paired with a 5-speed gearbox. The same powertrain is found on newly launched Bullet 350 too.
Meteor 350 is underpinned by a dual-cradle J-series chassis which is suspended on 41mm RSU telescopic suspension at the front and twin shocks at the rear. Anchorage duties are handled by a 300mm front disc and a 270mm rear disc which are aided by a dual-channel ABS as standard.
In terms of features, it comes with a semi-digital instrument console, a USB charger, circular LED DRL and a side-stand engine inhibitor, among many.

50 Electric Buses 7 Routes: RRTS Gets Last-mile Connectivity from Kaushambi Dilshad Garden
The National Capital Region Transport Corporation is overseeing the rapid rail network’s construction. (File pic/PTI) Presently, a 34 km section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is operational. It is connecting Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Duhai Depot, Murad Nagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North To ease the last-mile journey of commuters, the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) and Ghaziabad City Transport Service have joined hands to offer bus services to and from seven routes, covering several parts of the area, including Kaushambi and Loni in Ghaziabad and Dilshad Garden in neighbouring Delhi for India’s first Regional Rapid Transit System. These 50 electric buses for seven routes can be boarded/deboarded from/at bus stops developed near the entry-exit gates of stations on the operations stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), the NCRTC announced on Wednesday. Speaking to News18, an official said that the routes covered will be Kaushambi to Kanoja Village (connecting to Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar and Duhai RRTS Stations), Purana Bus Adda to Mandola Ghaziabad route (connecting Ghaziabad RRTS station), Kaushambi to Modi Nagar route (connecting to Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, Murad nagar, Modi Nagar South and Modi Nagar North RRTS stations), Loni to Purana bus adda route (connecting to Ghaziabad RRTS station), Dilshad Garden to Massuri route (connecting to Ghaziabad RRTS station), Kaushambi to Sanjay Nagar/ALT route (connecting to Sahibabad and Ghaziabad RRTS station), and Kaushambi to Govindpuram route (connecting to Sahibabad and Ghaziabad RRTS stations). These bus services, the official added, will also ease the journey for those who commute from Delhi Metro and want to board the RRTS. The details of these buses, including fare and timing are available on the RRTS Connect mobile app. “The integration covers key RRTS stations, including Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar & Duhai. NCRTC is also in talks with the authorities to get Muradnagar, Modi Nagar South, and Modi Nagar North stations integrated with these city buses,” the NCRTC said. Additionally, NCRTC has also collaborated with RAPIDO to provide cab services at Sahibabad and Ghaziabad RRTS stations including auto-rickshaws, two-wheeler bike taxis, as well as four-wheeler cabs. “NCRTC is also installing fast EV chargers in parking areas of RRTS stations to enhance last-mile connectivity. This will lead to increased use of both Electric Vehicles and Namo Bharat trains, while also creating a sustainable and eco-friendly hub of public transport modes,” it added. Expressions of interest have also been invited from other cab aggregators and bus operators for integration with all the 25 stations across the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS Corridor, which will further enhance the connectivity of urban nodes with the RRTS stations, creating a transport hub. “NCRTC aims to deliver a cohesive and hassle-free network of networks across the National Capital Region (NCR) by integrating bus stands, airport, metro stations and railway stations with RRTS stations. RRTS stations have been strategically designed in such a manner that they enable commuters to move from one mode of transport to another conveniently,” the NCRTC added. Presently, a 34 km section between Sahibabad and Modi Nagar North of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS corridor is operational.
