constantly........... CONSTANTLY....... thinking about alan wake 1 and all the ways in which the wakes & barry echo those three characters... (and Cynthia's & Rose's parallels too, of course)
A new round of polls, because I had a blast with the "fist fight" one a while back. This poll, just like the last, will be done first for the characters of CONTROL, then Alan Wake, and eventually we pit the winners from each against each other.
SO, let us begin. And this time, the question is:
(feel free to leave your reasoning in the tags/comments)
Ever thinks about how Alan’s mother was institutionalized while he was growing up? Ever imagine Alan being so young and wondering why his mother was gone? Ever think about his mother trying to reassure him, telling him that she will be back? Ever think about Alan having to take care of himself and his mother, having to possibly provide for the both of them due to her mental health? Ever think about Alan clinging onto the Clicker late at night when his mother isn’t there, pretending that she is there? Ever think about how Alan is still so close to Barry because Barry was with him as he grew up? Ever think about Barry giving Alan some of his lunch because Alan struggled with sleep and forgot to make himself some? Ever think about how Alan would hug his mother whenever she got out of an institution and she would tell him she would never go back there only to be going back and forth? Ever think about how Alan vowed to never be institutionalized, only to be trapped and gaslit by Hartman?
I think this was like, my fourth time going against Hartman, so I decided to mess around and get some screenshots! Died a lot, but it was worth it!
Hate this man, nothing in Alan Wake 2 came even close to freaking me out like he does. Running out of energy in the darkness so you can no longer dash, knowing he can just appear beside you at any moment if you don't get to the light quick enough??? The sound of his voice, those brief moment where he actually sounds kind of human??? The sound of his just, bone-foot, when he walks????
So, if you don’t remember what This House of Dreams was, it was an ARG blog run by Remedy back in 2012. It was heavily discussed on the now-defunct Remedy forums (RIP), but luckily, the site is still up for people to check out.
The story follows Samantha, a young woman who purchased an old house in the town of Ordinary. You’ll remember that as Jesse and Dylan Faden’s hometown, whose entire population was swallowed by the slide projector in 2002.
The blog begins with Samantha finding a shoebox, which contains photos and poetry from Thomas Zane (click for alt text). Here are 18 pages of "Thomas Zane's" original poetry and two photos depicting Thomas Zane and Barbara Jagger:
Available for anyone who wants to use them, no credit needed but super appreciated. All these caps are 2560x1440. Most of the characters have sub folders to divvy up the caps into more manageable downloads, but if there are any issues, please feel free to let me know!
In this folder, you will find: Alan Wake | Alice Wake | Barbara Jagger | Barry Wheeler | Ben Mott | Carl Stucky | Clay Steward | Cynthia Weaver | Doc Nelson | Emil Hartman | Mr. Scratch | Pat Maine | Robert Nightingale | Rose Marigold | Rusty Johnston | Sarah Breaker | Thomas Zane | Tor and Odin Anderson

Folks who have only played Alan Wake 1 from Remedy games, playing through Alan Wake 2: This is amazing! So many old characters from the first game are here; Cynthia, the Anderson brothers, Pat and his radio show! I wonder why that doctor... Hartman? is not in it though. It would have been neat to know what happened to him.
Am I glad that Hartman was defeated? Yes. Am I still somewhat upset that Casey and Saga didn’t meet him because if they did they immediately would’ve gotten bad vibes from him and insult him? Also yes! Also Alan deserves to punch Hartman again for locking him in his lodge and trying to gaslight him and also Barry deserves to go off on Hartman for locking him in a room. Also Thomas Zane the poet he should punch Hartman
Alan Wake 2 you are a very spooky and scary game, but Remedy really peaked with this guy, he is the absolute worst, I have played this DLC like 5 times now and he still manages to terrify me, I hate him!!!
