My mom's reaction and thoughts while watching THE PHANTOM OF THE OPERA (2004) with me for the first time:
She thought Carlotta was really annoying (but in a good way, since the character always made her laugh 😆).
Even though she didn't consider Carlotta a bad singer, she definitely prefered Christine's voice, since it sounded softer, sweeter and more angelic.
She loved Patrick Wilson as Raoul ❤️. She found him really handsome and a gentleman. He reminded her of Prince Adam from Disney's Beauty and the Beast.
She also loved Gerard Butler as the Phantom 😍. For her he's the character who she can relate the most with. She found him really handsome too.
When I told her who the actor was, she said "Oh yeah I already knew him, but I didn't know he could sing that well". She still has no idea how happy her comment made me feel 😁. SEE, I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO THINKS GERRY'S A GOOD SINGER!!!
Music of the Night is her favorite song. She loved everything about it: the lyrics, Gerry's voice, the scenario, the whole context of the scene. It touched her the way Erik sings his heart out to Christine and exposes his feelings in front of her in such an emotional and powerful way.
When Erik showed the manniquin to Christine, she asked "WAIT, SHE SAW HERSELF AS A CORPSE BRIDE?!" and I just couldn't stop laughing 😂.
In All I Ask of You, she said to me she also wished someone to tell her the same Raoul was offering to Christine: someone to protect her and be her shelter, to be her light and guide her (she's been through a difficult time during these last two years).
In the "All I Ask of You" Reprise, she mentioned "We can't help but feel so sorry for him (Erik), right?" and I was just like "Yeah... 😩😭".
She pretty enjoyed the Masquarade. During the song, she asked me "Who do you think Christine truly loved in the story?" and I anwsered "Well, I believe she truly loved Raoul, but in different circunstances I can see her choosing the Phantom". I tried to explained to her how Christine has many conflicted feelings for Erik, that she's fascinated by him, she cares about him and even loves him in a certain way, but she's also scared and afraid of him because of his extreme and unpredictable behavior.
In "Why so Silent", during the staircase stare scene, she commented about the way Christine was so attracted to Erik, like she felt hipnotized by him, by his presence.
During the Swordfight in the Graveyard, she admitted she couldn't choose who to root for between Erik and Raoul.
In the end of the Final Lair, my mom came to conclusion that, as much as Christine truly loved Raoul, she loved the Phantom too (she didn't believe Christine kissed him just for pity) and, because of that, she had a hard time seeing her totally happy being separated from him.
She also believed both Erik and Christine shared a unique bond with each other, the way Christine was a kinda depressed and lonely person and Erik saw a darkness in her heart just like the one he had in himself too and they could understand each other because of that.
In short, she found the movie very beautiful. We've both watched the musical before and she already loved it, but she was really satisfited with the movie too. She said that she wanted to rewatch the 1925 movie soon and is also interested in reading the original novel, which I recommended to her.
Yes, I'm slowly turning my mom into a Phanatic and I'm very proud of myself 😘

I’m sitting here, binge-listening to Emmy Rossum and thinking to myself; how on earth she’s never voiced a Disney Princess, I’ll never know.

Hello!! I would like to do a request for Carmen Berzatto.
Like imagine Carmy x introvert!shy!sunshine!florist!OC (I picture her like Emmy Rossum in TPOTO and with the name Maria, but at the end is your desicion)
Like she's a florist and works in a flower shop in front of the restaurant of Carmy, and he see her everyday and starts having a crush on her and everyone in the kitchen notice that and tell him to go to talk to her but he's really nervous and scared of being rejected. She also filled of flowers the funeral of Mikey as a "present?" for the family, even though she doesn't know them
Then one day she enters into The Beef and everyone tells Carmy to take her order and he's a ball of nerves
Then one day everyone from the kitchen are watching through the windows him asking her for a date
It can be series or just a one shot, whatever you like. Thank you!!
Good Fortune

Hi! This is my first time writing for Carmy! I do try and write as neutrally as I can, so I’m not gonna describe the reader physically that in detail, and I’m using “Y/N” since it’s an x reader, but you can picture whoever you’d like! Bear with me while I try to get the hang of Carmy’s character. I hope you enjoy it!
(Warnings: swearing, mentions of suicide, death, negative thoughts, insecurity, mentions of carmy’s trauma, let me know if i missed anything)
You met Michael for the first time when you were trying to unload a truck delivery to bring into the flower shop.
You were the only person working that day, and of course it had to be the day shipments were delivered. Crates of potted flowers and plants had been dropped off at your front door, and you could barely lift most of them. By the time the last two were all that remained, your arms were aching and your back was making a sound it definitely shouldn’t have been making.
Michael had been working across the street, and he could see you through the window. It was a slow day, and he figured it would be alright if he left his employees alone for a few minutes.
He whistled, getting your attention before he ran across the street. “Need some help?”
You smiled at his kindness, but were a little wary of him. Quite a large man on a quiet street, and you were working alone. He seemed to understand your wariness, giving you a friendly smile.
“Sorry, I’m Mikey,” he said, offering his hand for you to shake. “I own the Beef’s across the street, I saw you through the window. You looked like you can use some help.”
“Oh, it’s no trouble, I can handle it—”
“I can see that,” he smiled. “But seriously, these two look heavy, and I spend most of my day here lifting heavy shit. I can help you out with these last two.”
You finally relented, opening the door for him. He bent down and lifted the last two in each arm with ease, thanking you as he walked through the door.
“You can put those right over here,” you pointed as you led him to a shelf in the back. “Thank you.”
“That’s no problem,” he nodded, brushing his hands off on his apron. “Does your boss really make you do all this on your own? Asshole.”
“They didn’t use to, but they changed delivery days from Friday to Tuesday. I’m normally scheduled on Tuesday’s, and lately I’ve been the only one on staff. I guess it’s my responsibility now.”
“That’s bullshit,” he said, making you laugh. “How about I come help you out on delivery days? Or I’ll send someone else from the shop, Lord knows it would help getting them off their asses every once in a while.”
You shook your head. “That’s too much trouble, I can’t let you do all that for free.”
“My Mother would skin me alive if she found out I was standing around without helping you out. Seriously, Tuesday’s are slow for us too, I’m just standing behind the counter doing fuck all anyways. And I am still afraid of my Ma, as any sane man would be. Please, let me help you out. For the sake of saving my skin.”
You hesitated, but finally relented, giving him a grateful nod. “Fine. But you’re letting me give you something in return.”
You walked over to the crate on the back shelf, opening it up and pulling out a potted plant.
“That crate you brought in, it’s full of Crassula Ovata. Commonly known as the Money Plant. It brings good fortune…and nobody ever fucking buys it. I don’t know why they keep ordering them. I end up taking them all home because I feel bad about letting them die here. Please, take one. I can bring another over whenever it starts to shrivel up.”
Mikey nodded, accepting the plant from you. “Thank you. I’ll see you next Tuesday, then. Come by the shop if you’re ever hungry, we’ve got the best sandwiches in town.”
“I just might have to take you up on that,” you smiled, thanking him again before he left.
As promised, Michael stopped by every Tuesday to help you unload the deliveries. Every few weeks or so, he’d take a new plant from you, and occasionally ask about how to take care of it.
You’d grin every time you could see it sitting in the windowsill when you looked across the street.
For months, you carried on like that. And then one week, Michael didn’t come. The restaurant was closed for two days. You figured maybe he was sick, or on vacation. You didn’t think much of it.
But on the Thursday of that week, Richie came over to introduce himself. His eyes were bloodshot, and he looked stressed and overworked.
“Do you work at Beef’s? I think I’ve seen you before. You’re Richie, right? Michael talked about you when he’d help me out.”
“Yeah…yeah, that’s me. Listen, um…Mikey isn’t gonna be helping you out anymore.”
You furrowed your brows, trying not to sound rude. “Can I ask why? He seemed alright with helping me out a week ago.”
Richie frowned, handing you a newspaper. He pointed to the obituary section, and you gasped when you saw Michael’s name and photo at the top.
“He died Monday night. I don’t know what kind of arrangement you two had, but he isn’t here anymore. I came to tell you. I could send over one of my guys if you need the help—”
“No,” you interrupted, eyes wide. “No, he was more than enough help, I don’t want to trouble you anymore. I can handle it, it’s my job to do so anyways. I…I’m so sorry for your loss.”
“Thanks,” he muttered. “No offense, but I don’t know how to take care of that fucking plant of yours he kept bringing in. And I don’t think I can watch it die, too, so would you come take it or something?”
“Of course! Do you want me to come get it now? I know you’re closed.”
“No,” he shook his head, moving back to the door. “I don’t have the key on me. I’ll bring it over when we reopen, I guess. Anywhere you want me to leave it?”
“I’m here most days, so you can leave it with me. If that’s too much trouble, you can leave it outside my door, or yours, whatever is easiest for you. I can come to you if that’s better.”
Richie listened to you ramble about the plant, hearing the desperation in your voice. He had heard a lot of condolences in the last few days, but yours was the first one he actually believed was genuine.
“You’re nice,” he muttered. “I can see why he liked you.”
You felt an ache in your chest at his words, and you knew your face had fallen when fresh tears welled in his eyes.
Richie cleared his throat. “Uh, I don’t know where I’ll be. We’ll probably reopen on Tuesday or something. I’ll do something with the plant then. Thanks.”
And then he was out the door.
You let out a deep sigh, unable to hold back your tears once Richie left. You looked back down at the newspaper in your hand, reading through the full obituary.
“Michael Berzatto died on February 22, 2022. He committed suicide on the State Street Bridge, age 42. He would have been 43 this November. He was the owner of The Original Beef of Chicagoland. He is survived by his parents, as well as his sister Natalie, and his brother Carmen. He was loved by many, and will be deeply missed. His funeral arrangements are set for this Saturday amongst his close friends and family.”
Tears landed on the page before you could finish reading.
Suicide? You knew it was stupid to think that you should have noticed the signs. Apparently, no one noticed the signs, or at least didn’t put the pieces together fast enough to stop him.
Still, you berated yourself for not noticing anything. He seemed so happy around you, always chatty and smiling. He was such a good soul. You couldn’t believe he was gone.
And his parents? His siblings? The restaurant? They were all expected to move on, past one of the worst things imaginable that could happen to a family.
You looked over to the restaurant across the street, seeing all the lights turned off. Through the shuttered blinds, you could see the last plant you had given Mikey. You fought back your tears, willing yourself to be strong. You hardly knew him. There were people grieving who knew him far better than you, and you wished there was something you could do to dull their heartache.
The information about the funeral said friends and family are welcome. But you couldn’t bring yourself to muster up the courage to go. It wasn’t your place.
But you could do something for them. You could do something for him.
That Saturday morning, fresh bouquets and plants were sent to the funeral home where Mikey would be. It was a closed casket, so you had an arrangement made to sit on top of his coffin. It wasn’t much, but it was something you could do for his family.
You hoped it was beautiful.
That Monday, you returned to work. Beef’s had yet to reopen, but a woman came rushing into the shop just minutes after you clocked in.
“Are you Y/N?” She asked.
You nodded, coming out from behind the counter. Suddenly, she pulled you into a hug, squeezing you tight.
“Thank you,” she whispered, clutching the back of your shirt. “For the flowers. He would’ve loved them.”
You put it together that the woman hugging you was Tina. Mikey told lots of stories about here while he helped you around the shop. She sounded like a good person, but a person whose bad side you never wanted to be on.
Yet here she was, holding you like you were her own child.
“I’m so glad you liked them. It was the least I could do, after all he did for me.”
The next day, the restaurant reopened. You watched through the windows as the employees returned to work, one by one going in. Everyone was familiar to you, at least vaguely.
Except one.
Later that day, Richie came by with the plant. You took it from him, and he followed you outside as you carefully placed it in the passenger seat of your car.
“I thought you were going to throw it out.”
You turned around, quickly shaking your head. “Of course not! I never throw away my plants. You should see my apartment, it’s a fucking nightmare with how many I have. I just can’t seem to give them up.”
Richie grinned and nodded, moving to cross the street. Before he could go, you caught his shoulder.
“Sorry, I don’t mean to pry. But who is that? I don’t recognize him,” you asked, pointing across the street.
Richie turned to look, sighing. “That’s Carmen. Mikey’s little brother. Mikey left the fucking restaurant to him.”
You looked back over across the street.
Carmy was handsome, that was for sure. He didn’t exactly look like his brother, but you supposed if they were next to each other, they may have looked more alike. He carried himself similarly. Except, he looked tired, and stressed beyond the level any man of his age should be.
You wondered why Mikey had never mentioned him. The rest of his family, you had heard bits and pieces about. But Carmy? He was a mystery to you.
“We should be up and running again soon. Do you want to grab something to eat? It’s on the house. For the flowers.”
You shook your head, giving him a grateful smile. “No, that’s alright, I don’t want to bother you while you’re getting adjusted. Maybe another time.”
Richie nodded, clapping your shoulder. “I’ll hold you to that.”
He moved to yell across the street, whistling at Carmy. “Cousin! Be a fucking gentlemen, say hello to the nice florist. She’s the one who sent the flowers.”
Carmy looked up, stopping in his tracks when he saw you looking back at him. You gave him a small smile, waving. He raised his hand in return, before heading inside.
Richie scoffed. “That little shit didn’t even see them. He wasn’t at the funeral. Showed him a picture, though. He said they were nice.”
“That’s alright,” you said, reassuredly. “I’m glad he liked them.”
You kept Michael’s plant in your apartment.
You took care of it better than any other plant you had, refusing to let it die. A plant like that can live for years and years if well taken care of. It was silly, but to you, you felt like the plant was an extension of Michael. You may have not been able to help him, but you could help his plant.
And you would be damned if you did anything but save its life.
For the next few days, you arrived at work early. Carmy was usually already there, and you could see him walking around through the window.
You tried not to watch him, but the shop was incredibly boring during slow days. Beef’s had plenty of slow days too, and you wondered how the business was doing without its previous owner. You wondered how Carmy was doing, filling in for his brother.
You had plenty of days to watch and figure it out.
The days went on, and days turned into weeks.
Across the street, Carmy was shuffling around the kitchen. Richie clocked in, putting on his apron while Carmy started cleaning the grill.
“Cousin! You wanna tell me why I keep catching you standing in front of the window like a fucking deer caught in the headlights?”
“I think he’s washed those windows at least four times this week,” Marcus grinned, loading trays into the oven.
“Shut the fuck up,” Carmy snapped, scraping away at the grill. Everyone laughed, continuing with their work.
“Got a little crush, Jeff?”
“Want me to go over there and see if she feels the same?” Richie asked, and Carmy stopped what he was doing to look up, glaring.
“Don’t start. All of you, don’t start.”
“He is crushing!” Marcus grinned, coming over to wrap his arm around Carmy’s shoulders. “Look at him blush.”
Carmy groaned, shrugging Marcus off of him. “What are you, five years old? I’m not crushing.”
“He’s totally crushing,” Sydney said, not looking up from the vegetables she was chopping.
Richie nodded, agreeing. “Come on, it’s not a big deal. She’s a pretty girl, it’s good to know that the dumbass culinary school of yours didn’t fuck up your taste. So, why don’t you go do something about it? Go over there, talk to her.”
“Nah, she's not looking at me. I’m too busy, anyways,” Carmy sniffed, completely avoiding everyone’s words as he continued to work.
“I’ll gladly take over for you—“
“Cousin…drop it,” Carmy said stiffly, clenching his jaw.
Richie nodded, putting his hands up in surrender. “Alright, alright, calm down. Jesus, she’s dodging a bullet with you, isn’t she?”
Carmy could hear everyone snicker, and he sighed, pressing the heels of his hands into his eyes. “I’m gonna go smoke. You all better be acting like semi respectable adults when I get back.”
“Yes, Jeff,” Tina smirked.
The second he was out of ear shot, everyone turned to each other, laughing.
“He’s totally crushing.”
“Oh, absolutely.”
Carmy took his smoke break just outside the side door. You could see him from the window, pausing what you were doing to watch.
He sat on the curb, staring off into the distance.
It wasn’t like they were wrong. From the few times he had seen you close enough to get a good look, you were beautiful. There was no denying that.
But his track record with girls in the past didn’t exactly inspire confidence. He didn’t know how to talk to you. He didn’t understand why you would look at him, if you really were even looking at him at all. What did he have to offer you? Other than a rundown restaurant that he’s barely holding together, and a shit load of trauma he refused to acknowledge that quite literally wakes him up screaming.
Why would you be interested in that?
But then he heard a noise across the street, and he looked up to see you opening the door, carting the trash around the side of the building. When you came back around to the front, you saw him still sitting there on the curb, shifting his gaze back and forth from you to his feet.
The final time he looked up, you were staring back at him, your eyes soft on his form. You gently smiled, waving, before going back into the shop.
You internally berated yourself the second you rushed inside, leaning against the door. You couldn’t even muster a hello. Just a wave, and then you dashed inside.
Idiot.
Although, Carmy didn’t look weirded out by the interaction. He just watched you, with intrigue on his face.
You decided that later that day on your lunch break, you’d finally take Richie up on that offer and eat at Beef’s.
You had never actually been inside before. Michael had offered a few times to have you over, but you always politely declined, figuring it was too much trouble. When he died, you couldn’t bring yourself to go in.
It felt like you’d be stepping into the home of a ghost.
When Richie offered next, you thought he was just being polite, since you sent the flowers. He didn’t really mean it. But then again, he had offered more than once when you’d pass each other on the street heading into work. So, maybe he really did mean it.
Either way, you were going to figure it out. Even though the idea of seeing Carmy up close and personal, and in his place of work, made you physically ill.
You decided you shouldn’t go empty handed, and you picked out yet another Money Plant, acknowledging that you’d make the time to come check on it if nobody else could.
When lunchtime hit, you mustered up the courage to grab the plant, march yourself across the street, open the door, and step inside.
At the sound of the door, Richie turned your way, eyes widening. “Y/N? No fucking way. Look at you, you made it all the way across the street.”
“I did,” you smiled, placing the plant in the windowsill. “And I brought this. Don’t worry, I’ll come over and take care of it, if you’ll let me. Or I’ll teach you how. It’s a good luck charm. When this place is booming, you can credit me for it.”
Richie laughed, closing the register and motioning for you to come forward. “I just went on my break, but wait right here. I’ll send someone out for you.”
You nodded, patiently waiting at the counter while Richie went through the doors and back into the kitchen.
“Cousin!” You heard him call, and your heart dropped. “Customer! Get your ass out there, I'm going to smoke.”
“Heard!” Carmy called from the kitchen, and you debated bolting out the doors right then and there.
But you weren’t quick enough, the doors opened, and Carmy came through them before you could get yourself to move. He stopped in his tracks as he saw you, eyes widening.
“Hi.”
Your voice seemed to snap him out of his haze, and he quickly approached the counter. “Hey. Y/N, right?”
“Yeah, that’s me,” you nervously smiled. “And you’re Carmen, right?”
“Yeah. But you can call me Carmy, if you want. Everyone back there does. Uh…what can I get you?”
“I don’t know, I’ve never actually eaten here.”
He let out a small laugh, pointing to the board above him. “This is the new menu. Well, newish. We’re still fixing it.”
You felt overwhelmed at all the options, finally tearing your eyes away from the board back towards him. Carmy was looking at you with soft eyes, nervously gripping the counter.
You cleared your throat. “I’ll have whatever your favorite is. I trust you.”
“That’s a lot of pressure,” he said, scrunching his nose up as he ran a nervous hand through his disheveled hair. He had clearly already done that a few times that morning.
“It shouldn’t be,” you said. “I’ve heard of you before. You know what you’re doing. Pick anything you like, I’m sure it’ll be good.”
“Alright,” he said, ringing you up. The second he was done, Richie peeked his head back through the door.
“On the house, Carm. She’s earned it.”
“That was a quick smoke break, Richie,” you mused.
“Well, what can I say? I’m more efficient than these morons back here,” he said, before turning to Carmy. “I’ll entertain her while you’re gone, go make her food.”
Carmy nodded, brushing past Richie before looking back over his shoulder to you. “Don’t listen to anything he says, I guarantee he’s lying.”
You laughed as the two began to squabble, smiling at their bickering.
Within a few minutes, Carmy had returned with your food, handing it to you with a small smile. You nodded in thanks, telling him you’d see him later, before rushing back across the street so you could finally breathe again.
“Cousin!” Richie grinned, high fiving Carmy. “You won her over. I didn’t think you had it in you.”
“I think I’m having a stroke,” Carmy groaned, walking back into the kitchen. “That was terrible.”
Tina cooed at him, squishing his cheeks between her palms. “It was a good effort, mi hijo. You’ll get her next time.”
Marcus and Sydney were in the corner together, snickering at his emotional turmoil. They couldn’t hold in their laughs, grinning at the flush that had crept up to Carmy’s cheeks.
“Fortunately for you, she seems just as enticed,” Sydney noted.
Marcus agreed, nodding. “You’re line cook hot. Her type, apparently.”
Everyone else in the kitchen looked between each other as Carmy sulked all the way to his office, ignoring their teasing. Tina leaned over to Richie, lowering her voice.
“What the fuck does ‘line cook hot’ mean?”
As promised, you returned in a few days on your lunch break to take care of the plant. You minded your business, hardly listening to the chatter you heard coming from the kitchen.
“Hey, hon,” Richie called from the window, making you turn towards him. “How was your food?”
“It was good,” you smiled, turning back to the plant. “Good to see you haven’t killed this yet.”
“Marcus has a green thumb, apparently. Googled what to do. Between the two of you, that fucking plant is probably gonna outlive me.”
You laughed, finishing and coming to stand over by the counter. “It’s a surprisingly hard plant to kill.”
“I bet I could manage it,” he laughed, nodding back to the kitchen. “Give me a minute, someone wants to talk to you.”
You nodded, albeit nervously, remaining in front of the counter. You rocked back and forth on your heels, straining to listen to bits and pieces of the conversation in the kitchens. It was hard to decipher who’s voice was whose.
“Just do it, Jeff! Man up.”
“She won’t say no, look at the way she smiles at you.”
“If you don’t do it, I will for you. That’s a promise, cousin.”
That seemed to be enough to light a spark in Carmy. “Richie, shut the fuck up. Everyone, shut the fuck up. I’ll fire you all if you embarrass me.”
“Jeff? Even me?” Tina asked in a voice that made you stifle your laughter.
You heard footsteps shuffle, shouts from multiple voices, and then a loud smack. You furrowed your brows in confusion, unable to decipher what was happening.
“What the fuck!” Richie exclaimed. “That’s my chopping arm.”
“Shut up,” Carmy spoke through clenched teeth. “Shut up. I’ll go, but you’re all staying in here. I swear to God, if I see a single one of you out there—“
“Yeah, yeah. Go!”
There was more shuffling, and finally, Carmy broke through the door. He stumbled to a stop on the opposite side of the counter from you.
“Hi,” you smiled, tapping your fingers on the counter. “Did I just hear your slap Richie?”
Carmy nodded, letting out a laugh. “Uh…yeah. He deserved it, though, I promise.”
“I don’t doubt that.”
Carmy looked at you with soft eyes, a small smile on his face. It was quiet a moment before he shook his head, clearing his throat.
“So…would, uh…would you maybe wanna go out sometime? You know, somewhere other than the restaurant or the flower shop one hundred feet across the street from each other?”
“Like, away from the people currently staring through the window at us right now?” You asked, glancing over at the faces peering from the kitchen.
As you both turned to face them, their heads quickly dropped from the window. You heard them scramble for their work stations, coming up with random conversations to pretend like they weren’t just watching and listening to your every word.
Carmy stifled a groan, clenching his jaw at the sight. His cheeks flushed a rosy pink.
You laughed, turning his attention back to you. “It’s alright, I don’t mind. It’s sweet they care.”
“Yeah, they care,” he mused, nodding. “Enough to want me to die of embarrassment.”
With a bolt of courage, you laid your hand on top of his, giving it a squeeze. “You’ll just have to take me somewhere they’re not, then. If that’s alright with you?”
Carmy smiled, a genuine smile. “Yeah, that’s definitely alright with me.”
Suddenly, a chorus of cheers erupted from the kitchen. Half of them high fived each other at their stations, while the other half came bursting through the doors.
Richie came over to you, squeezing you around the waist as he picked you up. “Yes! Way to go, Y/N.”
“You had it in you after all,” Tina grinned, patting Carmy on the chest.
“Jesus, get back in the kitchen, both of you. Tell the others to calm the fuck down, it wasn’t a marriage proposal. They’re gonna break something back there.”
Tina finally relented, coming around the corner to grab Richie before pushing him back through the doors to the kitchen.
You smiled fondly at them, before turning back to Carmy. “They’re enthusiastic.”
“Yeah,” he grinned, leaning his shoulder against yours as he watched them continue to celebrate through the window. “But they kick my ass into gear when I need them to. Worked in my favor this time, didn’t it?”
You nodded, trying and failing to fight the heat rushing to your face.
“It worked in mine, too.”
A/N - Hi! Got a bit carried away with this one. I hope you enjoyed it, though. I don’t completely love the outcome, but it was my first try with his character, so hopefully I did alright. Let me know what you think!

...did you ever notice that...
They used basically the same concept for the 2004 movie cover, the 2006 Phantom Las Vegas visuals, the 2007 West End ads, and the 2010 West End Love Never Dies artwork?
Gerard Butler and Emmy Rossum, 2004 movie
Probably models? Las Vegas 2006
Earl Carpenter and Leila Benn Harris, West End 2007
Ramin Karimloo and what was said to be Sierra Boggess, but if so they have photoshopped her to death... LND 2010
Version 3 was used in bus stops all over London, with the Phantom looking directly into the camera, with the Paris skyline in the background, and the tagline "Surrender to the Music of the Night", but I never found a good one without lot of reflections showing it in use... If anyone has that one, I'd be interested!

What would your ideal live action cast be for Corpse Bride?
I've think said this before, but I absolutely hate live action remakes. I feel like they're lazy, soulless cash grabs and almost never good. Ideally, I'd like them to leave Corpse Bride alone ... but if they have to remake it, I think this would be an acceptable cast:
Emmy Rossum as Emily
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tom Hiddleston as Victor
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anya Taylor-Joy as Victoria
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Terence Stamp as Galswells
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Jack Davenport as Barkis
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The rest of the characters don't really matter because they would likely be rendered in CGI, in which case they could conceivably have the cast from the stop motion film reprise their roles. They could even have Johnny Depp, Helena Bonham Carter, Emily Watson, and Richard E. Grant voice a few additional lines to pay homage to the original, or they could make live cameos.
Also, if anyone's interested, the story of The Corpse Bride is actually based on a Jewish folklore horror tale called "The Finger". It's not a long read and, if you can believe it, it's even more depressing than the movie, at least from the bride's perspective. I'm not Jewish so I can't be sure if my interpretation is correct, but I came away with the sense that the story is a lesson in ethics, meant to teach children to be careful with their words and not say things they don't mean, as there might be horrible consequences and they could unintentionally hurt someone. I would highly recommend anyone who has an appreciation for the film to check it out!

Hi! You may have answered this before, and if you have, I'm sorry for asking a question you have already asked.
Do you know the age range for Christine actresses? Like how old the oldest actress was when they played here. I know the youngest has been 18 and I know Kaley Ann Voorhees (I remember her specifically since she was the Christine when I saw it on Broadway) was one of those. (I'm excluding Emmy Rossum from this since I'm talking strictly stage show).
I'm curious because she's always been a dream role, but I think I might be reaching the age of being too old {25}. Even if I am, though, I'll be content with doing it in the privacy of my own home. Lol.
So first, I just kind of want to say that I'm really worried for the state of the industry if you and others start thinking that 25 is "too old" to play Christine. (This is what happens when you keep casting younger and younger, CamMack and co.!)
Now, as for your actual question: I think we should separate it into two related but still somewhat different categories: who are the youngest and oldest Christines ever (basically the minimum and maximum age ranges, good as little factoids of knowledge) and what is the general age range (probably more useful for someone actually looking to get the role).
To start with the first, a couple of corrections! The youngest Christines have actually been around 16-17 years old, and no, I'm not including Emmy Rossum in this: actresses like Katie Hall and Amy Nuttall were 16 when cast as understudies and 17 when they performed the role, while Kaja Mianowana, Paulina Janczak, and Marta Hadžimanov were 17 when cast as principals (though typically sharing the role with a somewhat older actress). Additionally, actresses like Olivia Safe, Sarah Bakker, Julie Goodwin, and Amy Hudson Holder, were 18 to 19 years old when cast as understudies or alternates. Kaley Ann Voorhees was actually 20 years old, not 18, when she was first cast in Phantom, making her comparatively older than some of the others on this list, though she was still the youngest actress to play Christine on Broadway.
Now as for the oldest, those would probably be Barbara Fonyo who was 50 when she ended her run, as well as Lisa Vroman, who was 47, and Jill Washington, who was 46, when they ended theirs.
However, the general age range of Christines, I'd say, is probably mid 20s to 30s, and you'll typically see that in casting calls where, if they specify an age range, will say something like "20-29" and what-not. I have said that it seems productions are casting younger, and honestly it seems like every new Christine is only in her 20s, but there have been several actresses cast in the show in their 30s even in the last decade or so: Valerie Link in Hamburg (34), Ali Ewoldt on Broadway (34), and Meghan Picerno in the World Tour and Broadway (maybe 34/35).
But ultimately, your actual age will matter less than what age you can play as (e.g. some people can play teenagers and young adults into their 30s and 40s) and, more importantly, your skills when it comes to singing, acting, and (to some extent) dancing. That should ultimately be the focus when trying to become Christine, not your age!

Actress for Genderswapped Steve Harrington?
I’ve always had multiple headcanons of who I think would play Steve Harrington in a gender swapped Stranger Things. I think Emmy Rossum could be a fantastic choice. Not only did she prove on Shameless that she’s a hot badass, but she’s really good at giving off older sister/mamma bear energy. I also think Renée Rapp could be amazing. Not only was she incredible as Regina George in the new Mean Girls (so we know she can play the rich, bitchy popular girl that you can’t help but fall in love with) but she’s also amazing as Leighton in The Sex Lives of College Girls (so we know she can play the ex-mean girl who’s growing and learning to find herself). And then I think Ella Purnell could be a really good younger/high school Steve Harrington. I think her character in Yellowjackets reminds me so much of Steve in the earlier seasons. She’s self-absorbed and entitled but is also a badass, a team leader, and at the end of the day is just a scared, insecure girl who wants to be loved. What do other people think? Who do you all imagine as Stephanie/Steph/Stevie Harrington? I’d love to know, I’m really curious.

POTO Busan review (centered on actors).
Tumblr media
(*I wrote longer reviews in Korean on another SNS before. **It's a long review with bad English grammar, so if you're busy, I recommend you to read only keywords.)
0. I saw POTO Busan performances for the first time on April 30(Both matinée and evening performances). I had saw POTO World tour and London (+ JOJ concert in Korea😄) before and (as you all know) the POTO Korea set was the original version, not the world tour version or the London reopening version. The costumes were similar to the recent London costumes, but have more beads except Star Princess costume. The directing and choreography(except Masquerade) were Broadway versions before COVID.
I finished brief introduction, so I'll talk about actors now. (I know that POTO Korea video bootlegs exist, but most of them were recorded in very early days including previews. And some actors(particularly 조승우 and 송은혜) were sick at the beginning of the Busan run. So later performances were much better than those videos.)
1. Raoul actors
Tumblr media
송원근's Raoul is gentle, romantic and mentally mature(He looks younger than his age, but he is actually 40). His Raoul resembles Steve Barton's Raoul in many ways. I think he's one of the standard ALW Raouls. (If you like the original London cast, I recommend 손지수 Christine and 송원근 Raoul pair.) His gentle voice, good romance acting and nice dance skills are his strengths.(He is now a famous musical actor, but long ago he was an unfamous idol/dance singer. He has also been a drama actor since 2013.) + Personally, his stifling acting at The Final Lair was very impressive.
황건하 has a very unique voice for Raoul. He has a very heavy tone. His deep voice color reminds me of Bengt Nordfors's Raoul. However, his Raoul is not as mature as Nordfors's. His Raoul is young(황건하 is 25 years old, so I think that's the reason.) and and full of enthusiasm like the Leroux Raoul. But his Raoul isn't fragile like the Leroux Raoul. His Raoul is weaker than Ramin and Hadley's, but it has a similar sense of mettle.
Tumblr media
Doesn't 황건하's impression resemble that of Hadley and Ramin? +I think 황건하's strength is his nice singing skills.
2. Christine actresses
Tumblr media Tumblr media
To be honest, Korean audiences gave 송은혜 a better rating than 손지수 on the reservation site during Busan run. On the contrary, I've seen many non-Korean old phans tend to prefer 손지수. If you want to know why, go to 2-4). (* I love both of them similarly.)
2-1) Voice color: Both Christines have quite different voice colors. 💙송은혜 Christine has a clear and very light voice color. Her voice is transparent and light like a shiny glass bead. Her voice color resembles previous Korean ALW Christines (Especially 김소현 Christine) voice colors.(+ Emmy Rossum's voice color a little bit too.) 🤍손지수 Christine has a light(but less lighter than 송은혜's voice), warm and very soft(<-->clear) voice. I think her voice color is very unique! Her voice reminds me of soft and warm angel wings.
2-2) Singing style: 💙송은혜 sang POTO numbers more like musical singing style than opera " .(She majored in opera, but worked as a popera singer/an ensemble in the musical Elisabeth.) I think her singing style resembles previous Korean Christines (Especially, 최현주 Christine's POTO Korea 1st revival run. *최현주's stage name in Japan was 'Sai Tamami'.) and Sierra Boggess (Particularly WYSHA) a lot. 송은혜 has a girlish voice and face(I think both Christines look younger than their age. 송은혜 is 30 years old and 손지수 is 33 years old.), but she is an independent and modern Christine 'compared to the other Christine'. But her voice is light and less powerful than Sierra's, so sometimes I think her singing resembles Amy Manford too(But less operatic way).
🤍손지수 sang POTO numbers in an operatic way. (She is an opera singer.) And her calm and classical singing style is very reminiscent of Sarah Brightman's singing style. (+ Rebecca Caine's West End run.) But warmer and softer than them(I think Caine and Brightman has cooler voice and more vivid voice).
I prefer 🤍손지수's WYSHA🤍 more than 송은혜's and I prefer 💙송은혜's TOM and POTO(I like her cadenza & high notes)💙 more than 손지수's. Personally, 손지수's WYSHA is one of the top five WYSHWs I've heard.
2-3) Character interpretation: 💙As I said above, 송은혜 Christine was an independent and modern Christine 'compared to the other Christine'. Also, her interpretation influenced a lot by 최현주(최현주's Korea run. But I think 송은혜's voice color and face resemble 김소현's.) and Sierra's. But I think her Christine is less stronger than Sierra's. + 송은혜 Christine's love for Phantom is more Erosive 'compared to the other Christine'. ++ I like 송은혜's Serafimo.
🤍In every way, 손지수's Christine evoked the nostalgia of Christines in the 80s and 90s. (Her special voice color that distinguishes it from others, operatic singing style and Leroux-like Christine interpretation.) She was a very soft and warm Christine. She respected and relied on Phantom, her teacher and guardian. And her love for the Phantom was close to the Virgin Mary's agape love for humanity. I really love her classical Christine interpretation!
2-4) Points to be improved: I really love 손지수's classical Christine, but she need to develop her dialogue acting and body acting. She is a native Korean and speaks Korean naturally in her daily life, but on stage, she spoke lines as if she were reading a textbook. She spoke strictly and exaggerated at the same time. I know POTO is a sung-through musical but her Little Lotte dialogue acting was not good. But if you are not a native Korean speaker, it will be hard to notice. (+ Interestingly, her songs contained a variety of emotions and her pronunciation was not strange when she sings.) I think this is why she is preferred by non-Korean phans over Korean audiences. If you want to know her strengths, read the keywords from 1-1) to 1-3).
송은혜's lines and body acting were okay, but often 손지수's facial expressions were better than her. (The interesting thing is that 송은혜 said she has been a phan for more than a decade, but the other Christine – who wasn't a phan – is preferred to her by a global phandom👀(I think it's because 송은혜 is a fan of Sierra and old phans tend to prefer classic POTO over 25th anniversary.)) And neither of them can do ballet professionally.
3. Phantom actors (* I didn't see 조승우
Phantom's performance in a good seat, and his condition was not good at that day, so I'll exclude him from this Busan review.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
전동석's Phantom was a romantic and soft phantom like Kopit's Phantom(* He played Kopit Phantom. But still, his ALW Phantom was stronger than his kopit Phantom). His Phantom seemed to have loved Christine for a long time. Not every performance, but he would often greet Christine (as if he were worshiping her) during the POTO number like the picture below.
Tumblr media
And he carefully stroked her face when she fell asleep during The Music of the Night. His phantom reminds me of Earl Carpenter's phantom, who was also a soft phantom and liked to stroke Christine's hair.
* 전동석 sang POTO numbers by mixing musical and opera singing styles.(Although he majored in opera, he has worked as a musical actor for a long time, not an opera singer.) And he sang high notes well.
On the contrary, 김주택's Phantom was a very strict teacher and musician who wants to strongly control his student – Christine who will show his music to the world – 'at first'. He looked domineering and sometimes very dangerous villain. During STYDI, 전동석's Phantom seemed so sad and he couldn't hurt Christine, but 김주택's Phantom was very angry and seemed to strangle(but not kill) Christine if she was caught. But he got shocked and recognized his love to Christine when Christine handed over his mask during STYDI. After that 김주택 Phantom changed a lot. Even his voice changed a lot.
* At first, 김주택 Phantom's voice sounded very heavy and Phantom is in his mid-40s to early 50s, but after STYDI, his voice changed softly and Phantom is in his mid or late-30s except some scenes. (* 전동석 Phantom's voice sounded like he is in his mid-30s. And his voice color was lighter than 김주택's.) Also, 김주택 sang the numbers very operaically(It's natural that he is an opera singer(Baritone). *POTO is his musical debut).
I expected he still had a very scary side during AIAOY reprise 1, but I was surprised that he cried really a lot during AIAOY reprise 1. He broke my predictions several times and gave me fresh shocks as if I had never seen the Phantom of the Opera.
From here, I'm going to compare the two phantom actors. During PONR, 전동석's phantom was very sexy and I am sure his 'Don Juan Triumphant' must be loved by the audience. I saw the performance from the perspective of the Paris Opera audience who enjoyed the show. On the contrary, 김주택 Phantom's 'Don Juan Triumphant' seemed very dangerous. I felt a dangerous criminal go crazy and snuck in. I saw the performance from the perspective of the Paris Opera staff who were nervously watching the performance. And I love 김주택's AIAOY reprise 2.
At the final lair, 전동석 Phantom tended to recite that Christine was the only light to him after she left. I think his experience of Kopit Phantom was melted here. I like the way he emphasized Phantom's love to Christine. From beginning to end, the most important thing to him was Christine. Even during the 'Why So Silent', he thought that 'you' were Christine, not André and Firmin. Anyway, he let Christine go and cried, but he also smiled (like Ethan Freeman's Phantom) because his soul was saved by her kiss. 김주택 Phantom's final lair was scary and nervous. But Christine, especially soft and angelic 손지수 Christine, melted that dramatically with a warm heart and kisses. I think 김주택 Phantom and 손지수 Christine are a really good match for each other. They have similar singing styles(They are both opera singers and studied at the Conservatorio di Musica Giuseppe Verdi di Milano.) and the height difference between 김주택(178cm) and 손지수(early 160s) is also appropriate. (*송은혜 is taller than 170cm and she wears Christine's heels on stage, so she has better chemistry with tall phantoms. **The phantom in the image below is 전동석, who is 186cm tall.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Let's get back to the point. I think 손지수's interpretation of Christine goes well with all Korean Phantoms. But I think 손지수's soft and warm Christine goes best with 김주택's strict and scary phantom. It reminds me of a fairy tale that the goddess of spring softly melts the god of cold winter. + 김주택's Phantom also smiled (like Ethan Freeman's Phantom) at the end.
4. Carlottas, Piangi, Meg and André.
Both Carlotta actresses are young and are not much older than Christine actresses. For example, 한보라 – one of the Carlotta actresses, was born in 1988, and 손지수 – one of the Christine actresses, was born in 1989. So that reminded me of the relationship between Patti sisters(Adelina Patti/Carlotta Patti) and Christine Nilsson(*Both Adelina and Christine were born in 1843). 한보라, in particular, has a light tone like Adelina. (The other Carlotta – 이지영 has a calm voice.)
박회림 Piangi was really good at both singing and acting. The long extension of Hannibal high note at the end of the Busan run was very surprising.
조하린, who played Meg, has a sweet and girlish voice :) I like her Meg, though she sometimes struggled with the high notes. Her dance was great too.
Finally, I admired 윤영석's André. His André really loves music and art. It was really impressive that his eyes were shining when he saw arts. His André was as good as his Phantom in both singing and acting.

"In order for one person to feel that present, the other person has to be present, too. I feel like we feed off of each other. It's a give-and-take the whole time," Seyfried said. "I was sincerely in awe of what I was seeing across the table. Without giving too much away, what comes out of this guy, what is released in that room, is physically and emotionally incredible, and almost unbelievable. So it wasn't hard to find that sense of compassion and that curiosity and that shock for my character."
Holland was also full of praise for his co-star Seyfried. "I was so lucky that Amanda was the perfect scene partner," he said. "When you're committing to that kind of material, you're really rolling the dice. Sometimes, you have actors and actresses that you get on well with and you work really well with... and sometimes you have people that you just don't. I'm delighted that Amanda and I really hit it off and had a good time because I think it really comes through in the show."
"He's incredibly open, he's unafraid to be vulnerable. And getting to be around an actor who is also kind of your boss as the producer as well, it's nice to feel that fearlessness in them," Rossum told Newsweek.
Loving all this praise for each other ❤️

I haven't posted Emmy Rossum in ages and that's a shame but it's sort of the cycle of celebrity. If this blog has taught me one thing it's that we are less in control over who we think about than we believe. I don't know the last time I posted her but it was since before I had to reboot my blog so it's been more than 2.5 years. I first saw Emmy Rossum in Mystic River. It's a small part but I noticed her and was like, "That girl is beautiful, who is she?" and I looked her up and the name stuck. It was a good bit later she became for real famous rather than someone doing bit parts and there was a stretch about a decade ago where she was everywhere. One of the paparazzi's favorite targets and so on. And now she's not. And now I never post her and I rarely see her. Obviously this is out of sight out of mind. The blogs that post pictures of celebrities tend to post new pictures of celebrities and if they aren't there to post then they aren't posted. It still is a bit shocking to think it has been so long since I have posted her and so long since I have seen others do so given I used to have so many followers who were just extremely into her. I don't have a greater point here other than I guess it makes me feel old that we have mostly seen her entire arc of fame. Today I want to fuck Emmy Rossum.

i often see people commenting about Emma Kenney and how she came out to say that emmy rossum wasn't a joy to be around on set and what not;
they say shit like how emma kenney is a brat on shameless and irl and i think that is so strange.
yes, you watched her act in a show, but this doesn't equal to knowing her personally.
you do not know her and she does not know you, how would you know if she is a so called brat?
with that being said, emma kenney is not bad at acting either. the casting directors would have not accepted her if they didn't think she would be good, or shall i say PERFECT; for the role.
and no, just because you dislike her does not mean nobody likes her.
her social media following says otherwise and the multiple blogs that write for her and her character debbie gallagher also prove you wrong.
and yes, so what if emma kenney said positive things about emmy rossum?
a human can be your favourite person to walk this earth but simultaneously be a horrible person.
i do not believe that emmy rossum is abusive, i think it was a financial matter.
i do agree that she one of the reasons shameless was so liked and that she was infact under paid but to take it out on your coworkers, let alone coworkers who are minors?
that's a whole different thing. she did not deserve to be under paid but she was not in the right to act shitty towards the people she works with.
hating on a real person because you dislike their work and portrayal of a fictional character is fucking delusional and downright insane.
like i am truly in shock.
p.s., this post was fuelled by this weird ass tiktok post on my fyp about how emma went on a podcast to talk about her ON SET. experience, so you can probably already see what the comments looked like.
if you can't imagine what the comments were, its just people being ignorant and weird because they are busy dick-riding a character they like a lot vs a character they hate so much that they are willing to go as far as invalidate a person's experience.

Random question that popped into my head while watching a Tiktok:
What are your opinions on the 2004 movie’s performances? Not the blocking, not the costumes—just the singing and voices.
Mostly meeeeh.... Rocky Phantom and thin-voiced Christine is partly a directing choice, to make them easy-to-like for a younger audience. But I think the vocals are too weak, I cannot sit down and listen to the soundtrack without being annoyned.
Acting wise Emmy Rossum as Christine managed to convey the innocence, charm and lonelyness I see in the role, and she certainly looked the part. But she was never particularly believable as the grand star of the Parisian opera, which I think is a crucial point of the plot. I also think she didn't show the grand transformation most stage Christines do, where they in the middle of the second act finds their own voice and way and is ready to fight.
Gerard Butler as the Phantom should probably be thanked for hindering the role and hence the movie turning into a total camp feast. The director wanted topless, muscles, nipples, and Butler refused. He seemed to dig deeper into the character than Joel Schumacher did. Duly noted and appreciated. But I did think he lacked most of the finesse, power and danger seen in even an average stage Phantom - or Lon Chaney, for that matter. Add a heavily autotuned rock-voice just isn't my cup of tea. There were moments were I felt the rougher voice served its purpose, but I would have liked it as an effect rather than constant feature.
(directing wise, I also had issues with how they stripped him of all sense of magic, to make him so HUUUUMAAAAN... showing that the manipulation of Carlotta's voice was sue to a spray, for example, and not ventriloquism. And I haven't even mentioned the lack of a decent deformity, which also is crucial to the plot)
Patrick Wilson as Raoul was maybe the one I felt made most sense of the leads, in terms of him being a fairly classic Raoul. He sung well, he loved his Christine, he fought his battle. Maybe not wildly memorable, but towards two mellow co-stars it is probably limits to how sharp edges you may have.
Minnie Driver as Carlotta was colourful and delightfully over the top, but here - opposite of the Phantom - I missed the sense of the human underneath. She was merely a comic relief. And of course, she did not sing the part herself, former stage Carlotta Margaret Preece did, and very well.
Of the other leads I liked Simon Callow as André a lot, if only because he embodied the nervousness, the need of elegance and the peculiarity of the role. Ditto for Miranda Richardson as Madame Giry. Yeah, annoying French accent, and for mysterious reasons the only one with an accent. But she is a great actress and added just the right dose of quirk, mystery and femininity to the role that I felt this was a somewhat new portrayal. I liked it. Jennifer Ellison as Meg could have been so good if they actually used her classical ballet training to the full, but she hardly got to dance. Her sweet singing voice and very meg-esque look was fine, but I cannot NOT think of what she could have done with the role if they featured her more as a dancer. But I loved that she and Miranda Richardson looked a lot alike.
I have no memory of Firmin and Piangi. Sorry.
And while writing this I realized I probably haven't seen the movie in 10-12 years. So this is based on the memory of way back. Maybe I should see it anew. But last time I tried I loved the Auction and Overture and felt I had underestimated the 2004 movie. But somewhere in Hannibal and definitely in "Think of Me" it dawned on me that nope... and by the time of the title song and MOTN I just cannot watch it (or listen to it). So...

It’s so weird how Jessica Mason has this need to bitch about the movie and WITHOUT FAIL, will throw digs at Emmy Rossum no matter the actual topic of the video. We get it- you never got over not being cast, you feel like Emmy wasn’t good enough and that makes you angry, and you’ve felt the need to hold on to that for 20 years, but watching a 40 year old make a face and sip her tea like she did something when once again shitting on a 17 year old is gross.
