Saw this going around Twitter, a list of "ring wing anime", which I thought was pretty interesting. I haven't seen all of them by any means, thoughts on a few:
Crest of the Stars: Been a long time but eh...its like okay sure it has the ~vibes of militarism and genetic engineering and noble duty and all that. But there is a lot of "war = right wing" energy sometimes that is totally unjustified (war is a universal tool of society unless you are explicitly pacifist, and while pacifists are left most left aren't pacifists), and Crest of the Stars is a good example of that, its just that its a space opera story, its not about validating this or that ideology. But it does have the vibes, i'll give it a C
Gunbuster: Okay, we all know why this is here. Slowly, in the background of the show, you pick up that they live in a timeline where Japan mastered new technology, gained economic supremacy, beat America's attempt to smack them down and annexed Hawaii, and became the first-amoung-equals of a united Earth alliance. It smacks of apologia for Japan's empire in WW2, a sense of revenge for past wrongs. And you have all this other stuff - like oh a bunch of it takes place in Okinawa because Anno was a huge fan of the 1971 film Battle of Okinawa due to its huge action setpieces, but that film also completely whitewashes the atrocities of the IJA. Its all true, like it reflect that cultural milieu.
But it doesn't do anything with any of that. Anno just likes Okinawa guys, he doesn't think Japan should have won in WW2 and rule China right now. And the thing you actually watch is a group of international space pilots serving in the equivalent of the UN Space Fleet experiencing the horrors of war fighting for peace (and also fanservice). Its a world where Japan's economic & technological innovation makes it a world leader via soft power, and international cooperation defends earth. This peak liberalism. C-
Patlabor: Yeah an odd one, like its simultaneously about the corruption of the powerful and all that, but also about the need for heavy policing and the "fragility" of society. This one is one where you can take from it what you want, but if you wanna be right wing yeah sure. B

Niea_7: Wtf is this doing here? Like okay, its humor definitely spills into a bit of racial stereotyping and stuff. But this is an anime about refugees being discriminated against due to disabilities and caste and the humanity behind the outer differences. You cannot weasel your way around that. D-
Urusei Yatsura: By no means have I watched every episode or anything, but I feel like this is a bit of "well its just showing past society right? Therefore its right-wing". And like okay, that isn't entirely off-base, like it has stories about how men and women are Just Different and Being A Man and all that, so sure. But it was also mocking those social themes of the time just as much as it was reinforcing them. Like Mendou is not an aspirational character!
A bit like Patlabor, I guess I can see pulling what you want out of it. But its a bit harder here imo. B-
Space Battleship Yamato: Yeah I'll give you this one. Its just space opera in the end, but the way it sets up its symbols to redeem the legacy of the Japanese empire is far more explicit than say Gunbuster, no way around that. A-

Maytroid… sort… part 2!
To recap, since I forgot to add the tags when I initially posted the first installment, I’m doing a different sort of twist on Maytroid. As opposed to art for this prompt, I am writing some snippets that might be data than Samus would scan on her various missions. While some of these are subject to change in the process of fully writing the story, these are canon for where the story is at at this current juncture. Without further ado, time for part 2.
Day 6: Queen Metroid
Intel on Planet Designation SR-388
Planet SR-388 appears to have an active Metroid population. However, the circumstances surrounding this population are unusual. SR-388 atmosphere is highly turbulent, and has had an active super-tornado that engulfs large swathes of the planet for the entire seven months that the planet has been catalogued. All life of the planet is largely relegated to the planet’s abundant cave networks, with cross network migration only occurring in the times when weather is conducive to survival on the surface. The Metroid population on SR-388 is localized in a cave network only recently opened up by particularly destructive weather patterns. Life scans in the inside show an estimated 640 Metroid specimens. There is also signs of a much larger creature in this cave network, emitting a frequency that can be detected by our drones within low orbit. The strength of this creature to produce such a powerful frequency must be immense, just as with its durability to live within a Metroid infested habitat. It is believed that SR-388 is the home planet of the Metroids, and that they were brought off world either by the Glaxamore Pirates, or another piratical faction before falling into their hands. Given the pirates’ vested interest in the Metroid species, it has been deemed critical that the infestation be eradicated for the safety of the galaxy and the surrounding ecosystems on the planet.
Day 7: Gorea

Day 8: Nightmare

We are still unaware of the origins of subject MF-1. While it was found on planet SR-121, MF-1’s cellular structure is carbon based, while the native life on SR-121 is silicon based, meaning this creature is likely not native to the planet. No wreckage of ships, other similar individuals, or signs of civilization were found on SR-121 in subsequent expeditions, leading to the subject being quarantined aboard the GFS Chainmail. MF-1’s body is largely composed metal alloys, with parts being subsequently added from surrounding metal by an unknown process. Further testing is required on understanding the process and extent of this capability. The only known method of preventing this siphoning of metal materials is through exposure to temperatures below -40° Celsius. Until safe and effective testing can be performed, MF-1 is to be kept in stasis chamber C at a temperature of -55° Celsius.
Day 9: Phantoon

Our partnership with Mother Brain is already beginning to bear fruit. Through her own research and experimentation, we have managed to seize a Phantoon creature from the Galaxy’s deep core. Their ability to subsist off of expelled energy from Black Holes and Space Ship power cores alike has long since fascinated us, and to have a specimen of our own to study is a true delight. The currently held subject is dubbed PH-3, and will be undergoing rigorous testing to bring it under our own control. If we can have a sentinel that will drain power from enemy ships while leaving our own untouched, we will have an unbeatable advantage.
Day 10: Kanden
Galactic Federation Report
The individual known as Kanden applied for a Bounty Hunting License in 2503 FF, and raised various concerns from the get-go. Independent fact checkers have found evidence that Kanden was a lab experiment gone wrong. While born an Enoema, he was experimented on by his own government, likely without consent, in order to create a perfect weapon in order for the race to stand completely independent in an increasingly war torn galaxy. However, upon his first field deployment, Kanden was able to cut a swath of destruction through Enoema leadership, leaving the race defenseless and uncoordinated as the Glaxamore pirates descended upon them in a genocidal campaign. These experiences have left Kanden with a variety of psychological disorders. In spite of, or perhaps due to this tragic past, Kanden has since taken multiple jobs for Glaxamore, appearing to not choose sides within the current conflict. However, it has been decided that he is more valuable with the Federation, rather than demonized entirely.
Day 11: Diggernaut

Diary Entry
Dear Diary,
I had another dream about the man with the broken face. Once again, he just stared at me, as judging every aspect of my soul. His beak still hasn’t healed after all of these years, nor has it deteriorated. I know it’s just a nightmare, but it has Old Bird and Gray Voice very shaken up. Gray Voice even put training on hold for a day. That is NOT normal. I wonder if this is simply a thing related to growing up, maybe some sort of hormonal imbalance caused by the gene splicing. That could possibly explain some of it. Though Old Bird has gone to Bright Tallon for hours, which might mean my imbalance is more spiritual. Hopefully, things will return to normal soon, even if I am breaking bones again.

Companies present prototype for mobile large-scale energy storage

Companies in Zwickau give used batteries from electric cars a second life and have presented a new mobile large-scale storage device. It has a modular structure and can have capacities from 200 kilowatt hours to 2.5 megawatt hours, according to the presentation on Tuesday. The lithium-ion batteries used came from electric vehicles and were supplied by Mercedes-Benz Energy[1] in Kamenz.[2] They are installed in a common container, so that the memory is portable, it said.
The idea behind it: although the batteries in electric cars age, they can still store electricity after they have been used in the vehicle. For example, they can help to store electricity from the sun and wind for times when little electricity from renewable energies is available. According to the information, such large-scale storage systems can be used not only in wind and solar parks themselves, but also in a decentral way in companies. No information was given on the investment sum for the development. Depending on the capacity, the costs for such a storage system were given as between 200,000 and 300,000 euros.
"Now that the prototype has passed all the load tests with flying colours, we are now starting to optimize it for series production," explained the owner of the Elektro Lippmann company[3], Steffen Lippmann. His company developed the storage tank together with Erlos Produktions- und Recycling GmbH[4] on behalf of the Zwickau-based WP Holding.[5] There is a lot of interest in the different types of storage, explained Erlos Managing Director Matthias Schmidt: "We have received inquiries from all over Europe."
Elsewhere in Saxony, people are also working on the second life for used batteries from electric vehicles. At the end of September, for example, the company JT Energy Systems[6] in Bobritzsch-Hilbersdorf[7] near Freiberg presented a power storage device consisting of more than 10,000 battery modules that were previously used in electric forklifts, for example. If there is an oversupply in the grid, electricity is stored there and fed back in later when required.

FHSTP Projekt IMPACT-sXR: Heben von Lasten
Unternehmen im Einsatz von Mixed-Reality schulen Projekt erarbeitete Trainingstools für Mitarbeiter-innen
St.Pölten, 08.08.2024. Virtual Reality (VR) und Augmented Reality (AR) – oft zusammengefasst als Mixed Reality (MR) oder Extended Reality (XR) – erweitern nicht nur die Möglichkeiten der Datenvisualisierung, sondern erlauben auch neue Formen der Zusammenarbeit. In einem gemeinsamen Projekt untersuchten vier Hochschulen und mehr als 20 namhafte (Industrie-)Betriebe, wie die Techniken intuitiv genutzt werden können, um Mitarbeiterinnen zu schulen. „Obwohl sie mitunter damit schon in Berührung gekommen sind, ist vielen Unternehmen nicht klar, wie sie solche Technologien nutzbringend einsetzen können, welche Vorteile sie haben und welche Potentiale damit erschlossen werden können. Aus diesem Grund wird in vielen Branchen, die davon profitieren könnten, Mixed Reality nicht oder kaum eingesetzt. In unserem Projekt IMPACT-sXR haben wir Abhilfe geschaffen und ein Trainings- und Assistenzkonzept entwickelt, das es Anwenderinnen erleichtert, neue Arbeitsweisen intuitiv zu erlernen“, sagt Thomas Moser, Leiter des Instituts für Creative\Media/Technologies der FH St. Pölten und wissenschaftlicher Projektleiter des Projekts IMPACT-sXR.
Im Projekt entstanden neue Methoden für den Einsatz von Virtual Reality (VR), die computer-gestützte Erweiterung der Realitätswahrnehmung, und Augmented Reality (AR), also Umgebungen, in denen sich reale und virtuelle Welt vermischen. Getestet haben das die Forscher*innen und Unternehmen, um beispielsweise für Tätigkeiten bei Montage- und Wartungsprozessen oder bei der Qualitätsprüfung zu schulen.
Neue Formen der Zusammenarbeit
Das Projektteam erprobte neuartige Formen der raumunabhängigen Zusammenarbeit. Dazu gehört etwa, dass zwei Personen im gleichen VR-Raum arbeiten, aber in der realen Welt räumlich getrennt sind, oder wenn jemand beim Warten einer Maschine Remote-Unterstützung von einer Person bekommt, die nicht vor Ort ist.
Dazu verwenden Teams Echtzeit-3D-Informationen aus realen Umgebungen und Visualisierungen von Echtzeitproduktionsdaten, mit denen interagiert werden kann.
Zudem hat das Projekt neue XR-gestützte Schulungs- bzw. Lernmethoden etabliert. „Mit XR-Methoden sind einfacher zu adaptierende Trainingsszenarien umsetzbar. Sie erhöhen die Messbarkeit von Lernerfolgen und erlauben es, Trainings schneller an veränderte Bedingungen anzupassen. Dabei können mit dem Ansatz der Gamification spieltypische Elemente bei der Vermittlung von Inhalten eingebaut werden“, sagt Moser.
Beispiele: Von Industrie-Montage über U-Bahn-Bau bis Firmenvorstellung Fast alle Unternehmen haben im Projekt konkrete Fallbeispiele eingebracht, die untersucht und weiterentwickelt wurden.
So testete etwa die AUVA mit der Supermarktkette Spar mit einem Avatar Augmented-Reality-Visualisierungen von ergonomisch korrekten Bewegungsabläufen beim Heben von Lasten. Die Firma Geodata erstellte mit den Wiener Linien neue Verfahren für die Vermessung von U-Bahn-Baustellen.
Andere Fälle betrafen unter anderem das Wechseln von Industriekreissägeblättern, die Montage einer Kompressorsteuerung oder eines Motors sowie das Kennenlernen des Unternehmens und der firmeneigenen Produkte durch neue Mitarbeiter*innen im Rahmen der Einschulung.
Akzeptanz und Nachhaltigkeit
Im Projekt erarbeiteten die Forscherinnen mit Unternehmen und ihren Mitarbeiterinnen Prozesse gemeinsam, um die Akzeptanz der neu entwickelten Technologien und Arbeitsweisen sicherzustellen.
Das Projekt untersuchte auch die Vorteile von XR-Lösungen in Bezug auf Nachhaltigkeit, Energie- und Ressourceneffizienz und eine mögliche Reduktion des ökologischen Fußabdrucks.
Großes Netzwerk und offenes Wissen
Das große Netzwerk an Projektpartnerinnen (23 Partnerinnen aus der Industrie und vier Hochschulen) deckte viele Anwendungsfälle ab und sorgte dafür, dass das Wissen zu den Einsatzmöglichkeiten von XR-Technologien große Verbreitung findet.
Die erzielten Forschungsergebnisse wurden, sofern sie keine firmenspezifischen Daten oder Abläufe berühren, der Öffentlichkeit zur Verfügung gestellt. Damit sind sie auch für Unternehmen zugänglich, die nicht in das Projekt involviert waren.
Die beteiligten Hochschulen waren die FH Joanneum, die FH Oberösterreich, die TU Wien und die FH St. Pölten als wissenschaftliche Projektleiterin. Koordiniert hat das Projekt der Mechatronik-Cluster von ecoplus – Niederösterreichs Wirtschaftsagentur.

Die erste Digital-Uni Deutschlands

Zwei neue MBA-Studiengänge an der German University of Digital Science – „Digital Transformation“ und „Digital Technologies“   Potsdam, 12. August 2024 – Am 1. Oktober 2024 öffnet die erste Digital-Uni Deutschlands, die German University of Digital Science (kurz German UDS)) ihre „digitalen“ Tore für Studierende aus aller Welt. Zum Studienangebot gehören auch die beiden MBA-Studiengänge „Digital Transformation“ und „Digital Technologies“. Noch ist es nicht zu spät: Interessierte mit einem Bachelor-Abschluss und einer mindestens dreijährigen Berufserfahrung können sich bis zum 15.09.2024 für einen der MBA-Studiengänge bewerben.   Digitale Technologien sind das zentrale Thema in Zeiten von Industrie 4.0, wettbewerbsfähig zu bleiben, und um Wachstum und Innovationen zu fördern, sind privatwirtschaftliche Unternehmen und öffentliche Einrichtungen gezwungen, sich der digitalen Transformation zu stellen. Dafür bedarf es aber nicht nur des Einsatzes von digitalen Technologien, sondern auch der Menschen und Mitarbeitenden, die über eine fundierte Ausbildung in den Bereichen digitale Transformation und digitaler Technologien verfügen. Und genau diese bietet die German UDS ab dem 1. Oktober 2024 an. Um Studierenden aus der ganzen Welt eine Teilnahme an den Studiengängen, „Open Courses“ und „Micro-Degree“ Programmen zu ermöglichen, ist die Unterrichtssprache an der German UDS Englisch.   Voraussetzungen Für die Bewerbung an einem der MBA-Studiengänge setzt die German UDS einen Bachelor-Abschluss sowie eine mindestens dreijährige Berufserfahrung voraus. Ein Bachelor-Abschluss aus allen Fachrichtungen ermöglicht eine Bewerbung an der German UDS.   MBA „Digital Transformation“ und Digital Technologies“ Die MBA „Digital Transformation“ und „Digital Technologies“ sind anwendungsorientierte Studiengänge, die umfassendes Fachwissen in Wirtschafts- und Informationswissenschaften vermitteln und sich an internationale Talente mit mindestens drei Jahren Berufserfahrung richten. Die Absolventinnen und Absolventen dieser Studiengänge erlernen ein breites Spektrum an Fähigkeiten und Wissen von Konzepten, Methoden, Techniken und Verfahren zur Planung und Anwendung digitaler Technologien im Unternehmenskontext, zur Entwicklung und Einführung digitaler Geschäftsmodelle und zum Management interdisziplinärer Teams im Rahmen der digitalen Transformation in Unternehmen. Sie erwerben insbesondere Schlüsselkompetenzen für die Übernahme von Führungsaufgaben und die Leitung komplexer Projekte der digitalen Transformation in verschiedenen Branchen. Die MBA-Programme befähigen die Studierenden, komplexe Probleme zu analysieren und zu lösen sowie darüber hinaus ethische und rechtliche Fragestellungen im digitalen Kontext zu beurteilen. Im Laufe des Studiums werden sie virtuell mit den globalen Partnerinstitutionen und -unternehmen der German UDS vernetzt.   Ziele der MBA-Studiengänge an der German UDS Die Studiengänge „Digital Transformation“ und „Digital Technologies“ verfolgen das Ziel, den Studierenden modernste Kenntnisse und Fähigkeiten in digitalen Technologien wie beispielsweise Cybersicherheit und Datenanalyse sowie Führungsprinzipien wie strategisches Management, unternehmerische Transformation und Entscheidungsfindung zu vermitteln. Sie fördern Kreativität und Innovationsfähigkeit, um neue Strategien, Anwendungen und Lösungen zu entwickeln und befähigen die Absolventen, den digitalen Wandel in ihrem jeweiligen Arbeitsfeld voranzutreiben und zu gestalten sowie Führungsaufgaben und die Leitung komplexer Projekte im Zusammenhang mit digitalen Technologien zu übernehmen. Sie sind zudem in der Lage, ethische und rechtliche Fragen im digitalen Kontext zu beurteilen. Beide MBA-Studiengänge sind darauf ausgerichtet, Karrieren in den verschiedensten Branchen wie Forschung, Entwicklung, Management oder Unternehmertum, zum Beispiel IT, Wirtschaft, Beratung, Finanzdienstleistungen, Gesundheitswesen, Energie, Produktion, Medien und vielen mehr zu verfolgen. Warum die MBA „Digital Transformation“ oder „Digital Technologies“ studieren? Führungskräfte und leitende Entscheidungsträger für digitale Transformation sind in allen Teilen der Welt und in allen Branchen gefragt. Ein MBA in Digitaler Technologie oder in Digitaler Transformation verbindet fundierte IT- und Managementkompetenzen und bietet eine umfassende Ausbildung in aufstrebenden digitalen Technologien, die Absolventen auf eine erfolgreiche Karriere im Senior Management in vielen verschiedenen Branchen vorbereitet. Absolventen eines MBA in Digitaler Transformation oder Digitalen Technologien haben hervorragende und vielfältige Berufsaussichten in einem schnell wachsenden Bereich und in vielen verschiedenen Branchen. Ein MBA bereitet die Studierenden darauf vor, führende Experten auf dem Gebiet der digitalen Technologien zu werden und deren Zukunft aktiv zu gestalten. Typische Positionen könnten Change Consultant, IT-Consultant, Strategieberater, Transformationsmanager etc. sein. Warum die German UDS? Durch die Vernetzung von Lehre, Forschung und Partnerunternehmen verbindet die German UDS Theorie und kritisches Denken mit praktischer Anwendung. Die Studierenden lernen nicht nur von Vordenkern, sondern arbeiten darüber hinaus mit international bedeutenden Industriepartnern zusammen. Diese Zusammenarbeit ermöglicht es den Studierenden, innovative Projekte in virtuellen und erweiterten Realitäten zu gestalten. Der Fokus der German UDS auf Theorie und praxisbezogener Anwendung ermöglicht es den Studierenden, Positionen in nahezu allen Branchen und Sektoren zu finden und die digitale Transformation in ihrem jeweiligen Bereich zu verstehen, zu beeinflussen und voranzutreiben. Ein MBA-Studium ist sowohl eine zeitliche als auch eine finanzielle Investition in die eigene Zukunft - ein weiterer Grund, sich für die German UDS zu entscheiden, denn das Studienangebot ist mit 7.500 Euro für 12 Monate Ausbildungszeit im nationalen und internationalen Vergleich kostengünstig. Hinzu kommt die Ortsunabhängigkeit, die die erste Digital-Uni Deutschlands ermöglicht; weder ein Umzug noch eine eventuelle doppelte Haushaltsführung zwingen die Studierenden, ihre Entscheidung auch unter diesem Kriterium zu treffen. Mit einem MBA-Studiengang an der German UDS werden in vier Quartalen 60 ECTS Punkte erworben. Die „Micro-Degree Programs“ der German UDS Neben den MBA-Studiengängen der German University of Digital Science werden die Module auch einzeln oder in thematisch gebündelten Blöcken als interaktive Online-Mikrostudiengänge angeboten. Diese Studiengänge sind Lehrangebote zur Weiterbildung und zum lebenslangen Lernen. Interessierte, die sich generell oder zu einem ganz bestimmten Thema der Digitalisierung weiterbilden möchten, können an der German UDS für Mikrostudiengänge einschreiben und unabhängig von den Studiengängen einen Mikroabschluss mit 5 Credits (ECTS) erwerben. re.solution wins ACHEMA Start-up Award 2024

The winner of the ACHEMA Start-up Award 2024 is re.solution. The start-up recycles textiles containing polyester using a chemical process with renewable energy and low water and chemical consumption. With their innovation and business plan, the Aachen-based founders prevailed against nine other finalists.
For the fourth time, DECHEMA, High-Tech Gründerfonds and Business Angels FrankfurtRheinMain were looking for entrepreneurial scientists and founders with an affinity for technology. The fact that start-ups are now an integral part of the process industry was demonstrated not only by the number and quality of the applications, but also by the range of innovations on which the start-ups are based. This clearly reflects the general industry trends of sustainability and digitalization.
This also applies to the winning start-up: re.solution was founded at RWTH Aachen University in 2023 and aims to tackle the growing mountains of used textiles with chemical recycling.
The proprietary process runs on renewable energy and thus achieves a lower carbon footprint while consuming less chemicals and water in comparison with similar technologies. It is further designed to overcome textile-specific recycling challenges like the recycling of fibre blends and the removal of impurities. Due to its robustness and a high product quality, the process is economically competitive compared to polyester’s fossil route. The long-term ambition is to develop and operate plants at an industrial scale.
The jury was impressed by re.solution's innovative idea, a scalable process and a solid business plan. However, the selection was not easy, as the finalists were very close to each other in the evaluation. They offer an interesting portfolio for investors and potential industrial partners:
Biosimo AG wants to drive the transformation of the chemical industry towards greater sustainability with basic chemicals made from renewable raw materials.
ChemInnovation has developed the AI model METIS. It enables the automated structural elucidation of unknown molecules based on mass spectra.
co2ol catalyst uses a robust catalyst to produce methanol from CO2 - even from sources that could previously only be used with additional purification stages.
eco:fibr has developed an extraction process with which pulp for the paper and cardboard industry can be obtained from pineapple plant residues.
Graph-Co offers the digitization and migration of technical flow charts for the process industry under the brand name Graph-ID.
Inline Process Solutions GmbH analyzes particle flows in plants inline with the help of image-optical AI-based sensor technology.
LABMaiTE GmbH fully automatically optimizes the culture media for fermentative bioprocesses and thus accelerates their development.
Nanolope offers versatile heat storage solutions based on a phase change material.
PHABIOC develops innovative tools, microplates and analyzers for screening on a small scale and with a high throughput rate in pharmaceuticals and biotechnology.
