How do you think Exos manage to get their heads in their helmets when they have horns/other head features that Definitely Would Not Fit in a helmet?

also. do you have any advice on how you draw exos. specifically when it comes to like breaking down their form in a 3d space. chewing on them /pos

ok so my 3 biggest tips for drawing exos:

USE A REFERENCE. the reason I can make my exos passable to look at is because I reference heavily. 3d models are best of course, but half the time I don't care to open up blender and look at them.

PRACTICE. do some exercises to get better at 3d shapes. trace some images of exos! tracing is a really good way to learn.

LOOK AT THE WAY OTHER ARTISTS DRAW EXOS. some artists I like are lavenderarts, rivaldi22, ninthriven, trialsofsaint14, monstyra, sylenth-l, and fmab. i look at what they simplify and what they don't, how they shade, and so on, and try to implement their tricks into my own style

this is one of my fav exercises that has helped me get better at understanding 3d shapes. it's smth I really struggle with - my brain doesn't picture objects in 3d space well, which makes driving a car very interesting. but this has helped.

this exercise just gives you an idea of volume and form that I really like. I'll fill up a whole sketchbook page with just these blobs for a warmup. it's great!

with that said I'll try to take you through my process of drawing an exo but please take it with a grain of salt as I'm still learning

some things to note:

despite being robots, exos are humanoid in shape. familiarizing yourself with human anatomy, ESPECIALLY the skeleton as exos have no skin, is really important

exos generally have the same shapes underneath their external plating, approximately the shape of a human skull (open a 3d model of an exo and remove its external face plating and you'll see what I mean)

the mouth on an exo is generally higher up than it would be on a human face. they don't have a nose to get in the way of the mouth, so the mouths are a little higher up

you can do whatever you want forever. there's a lot of stuff that I simplify when I draw exos - for example, I have very little patience for figuring out what the struts and supports inside the cheek/jaw area look like so I usually just draw them all the same unless I'm going really hard at it

when I'm drawing exos I try to focus on how the features relate to each other. I know where the eyes are supposed to go on a human face (about halfway down the cranium), so I know where they go on an exo. from there, it's about relating things to the position of the eyes.

I try to take note of important characteristics on an exo's face. I don't necessarily get as detailed as taking notes like in the image below, but this is a good start it you want to get familiar with exo features. I grabbed these two pics off destinypedia as an example

it's also important to remember that exos are very angular and have facial planes versus the smooth transitions we typically see with human skin. you don't need to necessarily draw them super precise - just a line hinting at the change of plane works wonders for making it look 3d.

these are very sloppy because I did them in like 2 minutes each but I hope it comes across how I've implemented what I said???

I hope this is helpful. you just gotta practice a lot, and if anyone faults you for your robot anatomy being off slightly they can go fuck themselves lol. everyone who draws knows that robots are hard to draw and shouldn't dunk on you for making mistakes. godspeed brave soldier

When Vellos-7 is reunited with his long-lost king, he recognizes this man he loves is merely living a humble life on the outskirts of the Dreaming City. A small hovel, telescopes, supplies.

It's not the castle that Lucanis deserves. This is a shadow of the grand existence his king is worth.

One day, Vellos flies to meet his king, and behind his ship trail many asteroids. Countless. Thousands, it looks like, each varying in size with some hundreds of feet in height and width, others simple fragments.

Lucanis is confused. When his knight approaches, he asks what is happening.

And from the massive collection, Vellos uses his Ahamkara gifts, and dismantles the asteroids, reforming them into structures, reshaping the land, forging the chunks of space and Reef into a large, empty hall, with space for windows, grand archways holding the structure aloft, and decorative adornments within its craft, bearing hints of ancient imagery that Lucanis knows well.

Vellos kneels to his king graciously, and tells him he wishes to give Lucanis what he deserves. He wishes to see his king on his rightful throne once more.

But Lucanis grabs the Titan's hands and pulls them down to his sides, leaving the asteroids suspended. The construction stops.

A confusion and worry swells within Vellos, who can't fathom why his king would deny a castle built just for him!

But there, the king pulls Vellos to his feet, drawing him in close. With a warm smile, Lucanis wraps his arms around the Exo and kisses Vellos a long moment, dearly, never letting go, and finally shifts his head back, gazing into the knight's beautiful mechanical eyes swirling with galaxies as an Ahamkara's. "I shall hope you will build enough for us both," he says.

Vellos nearly collapses within his king's arms, jaw dropping.

But Lucanis continues to firmly hold him. "I will not have my most loyal knight serve me when he is also my dearest love, and therefore deserves to be royalty all the same."

Vellos cries. He falls against Lucanis and cries, and this Awoken man wipes his tears gently.

Lucanis asks that Vellos say nothing of what he will make. Let every addition be a surprise, and each surprise bring them closer together, knowing this home for both will be crafted with love, and he will value seeing that love come to fruition.

Of course, Vellos does as told. He's relieved, so joyous, and he works to construct an entire enormous castle over many months. He collects the asteroids, forms them as he brings them to their places, many bridges and balconies and towers and floors building a grand castle fit for a god.

But as he does, Lucanis begins to furnish the rooms one by one. He adds beds, couches, benches, rugs, pictures.

And in the grand bed chambers, Lucanis puts a large bed fit for both himself, and his enormous Titan lover, with the softest silken sheets and blankets, the comfiest mattress and pillows.

In each room, the furniture is made for at least two. The whole place is furnished for many, but nothing is crafted for just one person.

The king makes sure to include his dearest Vellos. Always.

Even when he crafts the throne, and he makes it large enough to include his beloved knight for the day he is ready to take this throne alongside him, united in marriage forever.

But he will wait.

And Vellos will, too. For whenever the right moment comes. For whenever he is ready.

Until then, he and the king will wait. Because they have each other, and their castle, after millennia apart, and now together. And that's more than enough.

Anthem-99 tried so many times (99) to erase the archived data of his deadname, but I chose to write that, it still remains and haunts him. Like a computer can never erase anything forever, neither can Anthem. In fact, he corrupted his memory so much that all he could remember was the basics (eat, sleep, speak), to protect Crow at all costs, and his deadname. He couldn't function at all, until Crow got him a memory chip. Now, Anthem remembers everything, entirely, and he has to manually delete memories. But the deadname is so deeply programmed into him that it'll never be able to go away. It can't be deleted. And he lives with that.

It's based on the fact that I myself want to forget my past. I want to erase the time spent not presenting male and going by my deadname, but no matter what, I can't do that. Regardless of what I do to transition, like Anthem, my past haunts me persistently and always will. Even when I can't remember anything at all, the past will remain. And I'll never be free of it.

But, just as Anthem found solace in his acceptance that he'll never be free, and he uses this to teach other trans people, especially trans Exos, that they are who they have become rather than who they were before, I accept this myself, and continue to grow as the man I am. Just as Anthem does.

The world only knows Anthem as Anthem-99. The only records of his previous existence remain with himself, and those he's told about this other life. But those around him don't care who or what he was before becoming Anthem. They just see him as himself, who he is now.

I love you robots and artificial intelligence with mental illness. I love you repression being depicted as literally deleting archived data to preserve functionality. I love you anxiety attacks being depicted as a system crashing virus. I love you ptsd being depicted as an annoying pop-up. I love you anxiety disorder being depicted as running thousands of simulations and projected outcomes. I love you artificial beings being shown to be human via their own artificiality.
