I love how people are already saying that Carlos is the worst driver driving for ferrari in the last 20 years (I swear I've read this) for crashing in FP as if this means something 😂😂😂. Like, for how long were you watching F1, 2 days?

1997 - This Year in Gaming

Muggins here was born in ‘97, and can’t really remember much of it, natch. But there were some good things released this year - I’ve played every one of these, and have missed so many more.

Diablo - Windows, January 3rd

We start with dungeon-crawl-em-up and well-loved out of season April Fool’s Joke, Diablo. I’ll be totally honest - I don’t like Diablo that much. It’s absolutely fine, I just can’t get into it. The writing, setting and characters are all very good especially since this year only marks the beginning of games being seen as a bit more adult and intelligent. Check out this gameplay from Hour of Oblivion on YouTube, and marvel at the faux-Scottish accent on Griswold the blacksmith.

Mario Kart 64 - Nintendo 64, February 10th

Compared to its more recent versions, Mario Kart 64 is a veritable bloody relic of the past - solid controls and a quirky style mean it’s still a crowd pleaser to this day, but you’d be hard pressed to find anyone right now that would die on the hill of it being their favourite single-player racing experience. It’s also got some of the deepest, impenetrable lore in any medium known to the human race - why exactly is Marty the Thwomp locked up here?

Blast Corps - Nintendo 64, February 28th

February’s position as most boring month of the year is shaken up a bit by having a uniquely designed Rare game slammed into its 28-day long face. Blast Corps is the puzzle-action game where you take control of several vehicles to destroy homes and buildings in order to prevent a nuclear warhead exploding in the coolest incarnation of Cold War politicking ever seen in a video game. Calling Blast Corps a “hidden gem” these days is like calling Celeste a hidden gem - it impresses nobody and makes you look like a dick. 

Turok: Dinosaur Hunter - Nintendo 64, March 4th 

The N64 was home to a surprisingly large number of above-average shooters despite its muddy graphics and small cartridge space - Turok is one of these, a great FPS game where you shoot the SHIT out of dinosaurs. Brett Atwood of Billboard said it was like Doom and Tomb Raider mixed - Doom Raider, if you will. I say it isn’t - there’s no demons, and there’s no polygonal breasts to poke dinosaurs’ eyes out with! 

Castlevania: Symphony of the Night - Sony PlayStation, March 20th

What is a retrospective? A miserable little pile of opinions. I’ve only recently played through SotN for the very first time on a TOTALLY LEGITIMATE copy with a CRT filter. Bloody good (geddit?) game, that takes the repetition of its predecessors, improves on it in basically every conceivable way, and combines it with special effects and graphics that even 23 years later had me going “ooh, that looks quite good!” Symphony’s music and audio design are wonderfully paired with a deeply enjoyable experience that’ll have you saying “mm, maybe just one more room?”

Tekken 3 - Sony PlayStation, March 20th

Also releasing from the Land of the Rising Sun that day was Tekken 3, which many believe is still one of the best fighters ever made. Tekken 3′s combat is so fast and responsive that it’s better than some games made today. T3 is also the best and easiest way to knock seven shades of absolute shite out of your friends without risking a massive head injury or a trip to the headmaster’s office... where you could also challenge him, but only if he plays as my favourite Not-Guile-or-Ken character in gaming, Paul. 

Sonic Jam - Sega Saturn, June 20th

The moment Sega realised that re-packaging old Mega Drive games would net them serious cash - although unlike later collections, this is a strictly Sonic affair, and has a neat little 3D world to run around in as a sort of hub world. Sonic X-Treme proved that Sonic Team would have to work hard at getting the fastest thing alive into 3D space properly: Jam is the sort of test ground for it too. It features some genuinely good emulation work for 1997, although it’s basically the gaming equivalent of going round to your grandparents at Christmas only for them to give you the exact same gifts you got in 1991, 1992 and 1994 but wrapped in a bow to make you think it’s different. What are you lookin’ at, you little blue devil?

Star Fox 64 - Nintendo 64, June 30th

So there’s this German company, right, called StarVox. Nintendo look at Europe and say “shit, we don’t want another lawsuit... after all, we’ve done three this year!”. So they give us in the PAL region the exciting title of Lylat Wars which as far as I know means absolutely fucking nothing in the context of the game. They’re still called Star Fox in-game too so what was the point? Anyway, fun 3D shooter with graphics that’ll make you do a barrel roll off the sofa and onto the power button to make the brown and green blurs a little easier on the eyes. Hello 2007, I’ve come back to make old references with you!

Carmageddon - Windows, July 30th

The game so scary it was BANNED in the UK! More like the game so fucking shit it was banned. Carmageddon is so deeply boring to play on PC that I can only imagine that Stainless Games made it tasteless by 90s standards simply to ramp up demand - much like another game we’ll be covering soon. 

Herc’s Adventures - Sony PlayStation, July 31st

“And they said Kratos was the best hero? Shish... they got it wrong, sister! Hercules is clearly better... he even has a coconut weapon.” A surprisingly fun overhead action game that most people only know for... well, I’ll just embed it.

Mega Man X4 - Sony Playstation, August 1st

A few years ago I tried playing every Mega Man game there is - I gave up at X3 because I was getting bored. Even still, Mega Man bores me - but at least the level design is good. Stay away from the Windows port. Pictured: me in the background yawning.

GoldenEye 007 - Nintendo 64, August 25th 

The name’s Intro. Overused intro which I also managed to fuck up twice through the deeply editable medium of text. GoldenEye is like the Seinfeld of console shooters - playing it nowadays you’re unlikely to be amazed but holy shit there’s some absolute greatness in this game. Every sound and every piece of music in GoldenEye is permanently seared into my brain - sometimes I’ll just hear Facility or Frigate in my head alongside the door opening sound and the gentle PEW of the PP7. I mean come on, fucking listen to this and tell me Grant Kirkhope isn’t cool as all hell.

LEGO Island - Windows, September 26th

The first open world experience I ever had was LEGO Island. It’s still quite good today, utterly deranged animation from the likes of the Infomaniac and Brickster - a cautionary tale for children that giving pizza to high-profile criminals is disastrous for the human LEGO race. 

Fallout - Windows, October 10th

War never changes, but franchises do. Fallout’s legendary status in the industry is exemplified in how different it feels. Yes, we had the game Wasteland nine years prior, but until September 97 there was nothing quite like Fallout. From the chilling introduction sequence showing the ruins of the United States to the tragic ending, Fallout is an exercise in pure human misery with the brightest spots of hope it can possibly muster thrown in for good measure. What begins as a tedious isometric point-and-click RPG ends as a minigun-wielding power fantasy, before your entire worth is stripped from you at the finish line. You have 500 days to find a water chip before it’s too late, but you’re constantly being fought by terrifying Super Mutants, irradiated animals, and the biggest monster of all - humanity. See what I did there? If anything, humanity in Fallout’s setting would be the greatest unifying force possible against the horror of the outside world. But how is it? It’s dull, it’s sluggish, and it’s really hard to get into even if you’re already a fan - but push through that and it’s worthwhile to see exactly how far the series got before Todd Howard said “eh fuck it” and had the whole thing dipped into an FEV vat.

Grand Theft Auto - Sony PlayStation, October 21st

To put it simply, the first in the GTA series is now nothing but a novelty. It has an irritating camera, wonky controls, poor graphics and deeply repetitive gameplay. But thank fuck it exists, because without it the Rockstar story may have been very different indeed. It’s quintessential cops and robbers gameplay, spanning across Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas in one game, but with maps so far removed from their modern incarnations they may as well be named “Not New York, Possibly Bristol and Orange Town”. People really fucking hated Hare Krishnas in the 20th Century, didn’t they?

Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back - Sony PlayStation, October 31

A hard one to talk about, honestly - it’s more Crash and better than the first one. It looks great, and Crash controls so well compared to his first outing. It’ll also keep you playing for 100%, fiendishly addictive and unashamedly difficult. Had a weird cover that moved with your head. 

PaRappa the Rapper - Sony PlayStation, November 17th

Type type type the words into the box! (Type, type, type - uh oh - the box?)

PaRappa is a gorgeously stylised rhythm game about rapping to steal the heart of the girl of your dreams - which involves learning karate, getting your driver’s license, selling bottle caps and frogs, making a cake, desperately trying not to shit yourself, and finally performing live on stage. Every one of its segments is so well-produced that they’d genuinely sell like ghost cookies in this era of shite rap. Notable for producing the greatest Jay-Z backing track ever made.

Sonic R - Sega Saturn, November 18th

Sonic R is absolutely FINE with vibrant textures, interesting levels, neat gimmicks and decent controls. But I’m gonna talk about its fucking AWESOME soundtrack by Richard Jacques and T.J. Davis, an eclectic mix of Europop and New Jack Swing - even thinking about it is bringing tears of absolute joy to my eyes hearing Super Sonic Racing in my head. You’ve got the main theme, Living in the City, Can You Feel the Sunshine, Back in Time, Diamond in the Sky, Work It Out and Number One - all of these are absolute club bangers and genuinely wouldn’t be out of place in a 90s disco. 

Tomb Raider II - Sony PlayStation, November 18th

Lara Croft returns to single-handedly endanger every species on Earth. TR2 is really good, the exploration and puzzle-solving aspects of the first game expanded upon here and the gunplay remaining just as punchy. Lara’s got a fully-functioning ponytail which absolutely boggles the fucking mind - a lot of work went into Lara’s hair for the 2013 reboot, so I can’t imagine the amount of man hours it took to get fluid(ish, come on, it’s the PS1 we’re talking about) hair movements in 1997. 

And really, that’s all I played from 1997. I’ve left out big hitters like Quake II, Gran Turismo and Diddy Kong Racing, but I simply haven’t formed an opinion on them yet. Maybe in a future post.

Queen in the Making FP x Reader

This is my first FP x Reader. This is also my first one shot back on Tumblr since like 2016. I am back and writing again. I would love to try and do some requests. I am currently battling Cancer so I am off of work and school for the time being. So please feel free to request away. I can do all characters from Riverdale. I can even do irl Actors/Actress x reader too. :)

 When you walked into the Whyte Wyrm for the first time you knew this is what you wanted however convincing the King to let you join was going to be an issue. My name is (Y/n) Cooper… You heard me right Cooper as in Betty and Polly Cooper. They are your sisters much to your utter demise. When you turned 18 you had decided you had, had enough of your parents fighting and your sister and parents fighting. A month after Jason Blossom drowned you moved out and that’s when all hell broke loose. You now live in a quaint apartment right near Pop’s which is where you work. 

 That’s how you know Jughead, but that’s also how you know him. 

 *TIME JUMP*

 “I don’t care I am going with you” you stated stomping my foot. You didn’t care if you looked like a child you would be damned if you didn’t go with Jug to see his dad get released from Jail.

 “No.” He said for the fifth time since you brought it up. You have been going through the initiation for the serpents and you had been blessed with FP’s jacket. Yet Jughead still wouldn’t let you go see him. You needed him to help me finish the final leg of your initiation. A female serpent has to go through three levels #1 know all of the rules. Check. #2 Retrieve the knife. Check. #3 the serpent dance to your escort. Unable to finish because you are supposed to have a single, established serpent, if you are unable to find one you must be escorted by the King. That happens to be FP and Jug won’t let you see him because he doesn't want to have to hide from his girl that her sister is a serpent. 

 “Juggie please. I need to finish this and he is the only person I can do this with.” you started thinking about what would happen if Jug said no again. Would you be able to make this work at all.

 “Fine” Jug said pulling you out of your daze.

 “What?” you stuttered.

 “I said Fine. But you have to tell Betty.” you blinked under his intense gaze. You really were not ready for that hell storm but if that’s what it would take to see FP you would do it. You would do anything for him. 

 “Fine, when do we leave?” He smiled 

 “In about 20 minutes, you might want to change” He said motioning to the Pop’s uniform you were wearing. You let a breath of relief out and quickly ran out of Pop’s to your apartment to change. You smiled to myself. Finally you were going to get to see him again. If only Juggie knew.

 ** You got home and quickly changed into a pair of high waisted shorts. Throwing on one of FP’s shirts that he let you borrow last time you spent the night at Jug’s and the one and only Serpent jacket. Quickly you walked out to the honking from your mother’s car. Leaving the house you had a huge smile on your face until you realized who was driving. You walked over and bent down to be face to face with your mother. 

 “Y/n what in god’s name is that.” She said motioning to FP’s jacket. With a big smile you got into the front seat. 

 “It’s a jacket mother. I am just returning it to whom it belongs.” you batted your lashes and quickly threw a glare back at Jug, who just shrugged. Of course the whole ride to the prison it was aggressively awkward. We got there right as FP was walking out. He had the biggest smile on his face when he saw Jug. Then his eyes locked with your mom’s, who was leaning against the driver side door. His smile waived only slightly before he saw you. In his jacket sitting on the hood of the car. Winking you walked over welcoming the hug he was offering. 

“Hey baby” He whispered in your ear, sending shivers down your spine. 

 “Hiya” you smiled leaning back but not allowing him to break the hug. You quick pecked him on the cheek and turned to the audience you now where highly aware you had. Smiling you slowly start taking the jacket off and returning it to FP. Who was also staring at you in shock.

 “What are you all staring at?” you said smiling. “C’mon I’m sure FP is hungry for some real food.” you smiled getting back into the car. This was going to be a very long lunch.

 “I’m retiring from the Serpent’s Alice” FP stated. “I’m going clean.”

 “WHAT?!” you said a little louder than intended, causing FP to place his hand on your knee. He looked at you saying something, you couldn’t quite pick up on. Since the group had arrived at Pop’s you were able to get exactly two minutes alone with him, just enough time to give him the cell phone you bought for him because you knew he didn’t have one. He motioned down to your lap where you held your phone always and he knew that. 

 “I will be right back I have to go and talk to Pop about a job.” He smiled standing up. You quickly picked up your cell and read the text you had felt come in.

 Baby: Sweetie I need people to trust me. I can’t go back there it’s apart of my agreement.

 You: Babe I need you to be my escort, I have one more leg. 

 Baby: You are that far into the the process… 

 Baby: Is that what your band aid is for..

 Baby: I told you to wait. 

 You: Babe I need to be a serpent, these people have been my family.. They took care of me while you were away. I owe these people. 

 Baby: Fine, my retirement party? 

 You smiled to yourself as you put your phone away hearing FP walking closer. 

“What is that?” Your mother said pointing to your arm where your concealer was starting to fade. Quickly you covered yourself as discreetly as possible. 

“It’s nothing mom, I got a burn from my straightener and I put some concealer on to cover up the mark. I mean I am a waitress after all.” You said curling up a little. The one thing you hated the most about Pop’s was that it was always cold. You could never get warm here and you were also dumb enough to wear shorts. FP was walking back gesturing to his coat when he saw you. You took the hint and slid it on. It always fit really big but it felt like home. Nothing could compare to this coat. This caused you to get another ugly look from my mother.  

“Mom it’s a coat.” you scowled. “It’s not as easy as putting on the coat. Becoming a serpent is hard work mom, you don’t have to worry about the jacket.” you said this time earning you a weird look from Betty. You felt my phone buzz again and saw that you had a text from FP and Betty. 

 Betty: You’re a serpent… How did you do it?

 Baby: So do you know the dance or do I have to teach you? ;) 

 Quickly you hid your blushing cheeks and responded to Betty. You would have to respond to FP later. You smiled picking up a french fry knowing all too well that he was watching. 

 “So,” Betty smiled. “ Jug and I have some plans with Archie and Ronnie so we are going to jet.” She said standing up to leave. Your mom got up behind her and started to head out. She turned and looked at you one last time but then left. As soon as you heard that bell you moved a little closer to FP. 

 “Hey baby” He said smiling at you. 

 “Hi” you smiled back. You had waited so long for this moment. It may have only been months but it felt like years. You needed your babe back. It took a lot of effort not to reach up and kiss him. He had in a roundabout way ended things between you guys prior to Jason being shot and you were a reck. It took you seeing everything unfold for you to understand what was going on. You visited once in Jail and he explained everything to you that Clifford Blossom knew about you and him and he threatened Jug. You were completely blown away on how he was able to find out about you both. But you forgave him, you forgave him a thousand times over, because that little time that you were apart hurt like a pain you had never felt before. But FP still refused to get back together. He couldn’t risk people judging you apparently. You personally thought he couldn’t stand Jug, judging him. 

 “Uhm Mr. Jones could you give me a ride..” He side eyed you from his phone. “Back home, I’m just up the street.” you smiled blushing. 

 “Sure Y/n,” he said standing up and pushing his jacket back towards you, you hadn’t noticed you had slipped it off after your argument with your Mom. You hated when he called you y/n, and he hated when you called him Mr. Jones but that’s the facade you needed to uphold. You decided you would get back at him for his message earlier. 

 “Uhm Mr. Jones, if your not busy maybe you could teach me that thing you were talking about earlier?” That caught his attention. He whipped his head towards you to catch your gaze with a big smile on his face.

 “Let’s go” he growled. You made it into the apartment when he broke and became the same FP that you knew. 

 “You need to stop teasing!” He said grabbing me and pulling me closer to him. You smiled you knew exactly what you had done. You watched his eyes go soft and him smile as he loosened his grip. 

 “I really did miss you though Baby.” you smiled and just willed for everything to go back to normal.

 “It was hard not seeing you everyday, but at least I was able to focus on doing what I wanted without you trying to stop me” you smiled at him causing him to do that smirk that you loved. 

 “Can I kiss you?” He asked. Smiling, he already knew the answer but this is how he wanted to play. 

 “No!” you smiled running away! “Do not do the kissing?” you laughed running around your apartment, with him chasing you. He tackled you onto the couch. He leaned down and quick pecked your lips causing you to smile so big that you could feel your face cramping up. You don’t think you have been as happy as you were when he did that. It meant he wanted to get back together. That maybe you could live happily with this man. 

 “Baby.” you said testing the waters while he was in the kitchen cooking. 

 “Yes my angel.” you smiled, he was in a good mood. 

 “Are we together?” you stated kind of shrinking so you could prepare yourself for the denial. He looked at you a little and smiled. 

 “I love you, you know.” He said gauging your response as he walked towards you. You smiled yet again. You could feel your eyes watering up as you spoke. 

“I love you too.” you smiled as he wrapped his arms around you. This was wrong in so many ways but you have never once felt so right.

“This was never right.” Fp Jones x Reader One Shot (Part 3)

You’re Archie’s older sister, your little brother has decided to throw a birthday party for his best friend, Jughead. Under your supervision you allow it, that’s until the whole high school turns up and it gets out of control. You’re left nothing else to do than clean up after everyone and look after your drunk arse brother, but that’s until a very familiar face shows up and your priorities are conflicted…

God, you felt terrible.

You felt awful. You felt an awful sister. An awful daughter. An awful person. You had just left when Archie needed you the most. When you both had answers and questions to things that needed addressing.

You had made yourself look guilty of what Cheryl had been implying. Because you knew it was true and it worried you more than anything. You had no idea how she would have known and this was only making the situation with Fp worse.

There was no way now he was ever going to consider going back to whatever the hell you were back in the summer. You weren't even friends. Nor were you in love. But there was something going on there. It was a connection. It was a deep connection. You were both ridiculously attracted to one another. There was no doubt about it.

He cared about you. Maybe way more than he should have when he was your Dad's former friend. But you couldn't help it. You two had found each other in the darkest of times. His wife had just walked out on him and took his daughter away. You had just returned from college after dropping out. You both needed someone to lean on.

And that's how you found each other.

You had stupidly nearly drunk yourself to death one night, walking the wrong side of town, the south side, where Fp lived. A group of guy's had passed you, where they began harassing you, and thankfully Fp had drove past on his way to the Whyt Worm, the south sides bar at the perfect time.

Recognising you as being Fred's daughter and also seeing you in such a state, he quickly hopped out of his truck and scared the group of guys off, worried they were going to do something to you in your vulnerable state.

He took you back to his trailer to try clean and sober you up, after you  had begged him not to take you back home to your Dad in this state. You knew Fred would be angry at you for letting yourself get in such a state.

But with everything that had gone on at college, the stress of it all and being away from your hometown, as well as drifting from your friends and your boyfriend breaking up with you, you felt like you had no control over your life.

Yet picking up a bottle to drink was the only thing that gave you some kind of control. You could drink however much you wanted to. But after you had felt rough and been put at a risk with those guys, you agreed with Fp you would never let yourself get in such a state again.

And everyday Fp would check in with you, he would make sure you were ok, the same way you would with him. Slowly but surely, Fp would lean on you to off left about his wife. But this didn't mean he wouldn't turn to the bottle himself.

He had a drink problem that was clear. He had it for a long time. Maybe that was why he didn't want to see you get yourself in such a drunken state ever again. Maybe it reminded him of himself. And it pained him to see  you put yourself through that knowing how much it could ruin.

The more you looked out for each other, the closer you grew. And then it just happened one night. You ended up sharing a kiss. A kiss that somehow changed everything between you too. The more you started seeing each other behind everyone's backs. Kisses turned into touches. Touches turned into intimate moments.

Everything became a sweet escape. And that was until Fp one night had decided to  put a stop to it. Something had happened. Something you were still trying to work out.

You knew he was in a gang, the South Side Serpents. You wondered if something had happened between them. It was obvious a few of them were aware of this new girl that Fp seemed to be hanging around with more. But you knew it was more than that.

Everything ended so suddenly with no real goodbye.

You didn't even know how long you had been walking the streets of Riverdale, dressed in nothing but your little black dress and a pair of old sneakers you quickly grabbed as you made your run out of your home.

It was freezing out in the middle of the autumn season. You were perished right now and wanted nothing more than to have somewhere to go to seek warm comfort.

The sound of a car horn beeping startled you out of your thoughts as you turned your head to the side and saw a famaliar looking truck slowly trailing the road beside you.

Rolling your eyes at just whom it was, you held your arms that little bit tighter to your chest for warmth, but also with attitude as the driver rolled down their window to talk to you.

"Get in the truck, (y/n)." Fp instructed from inside the vehicle.

"Leave me alone, Fp." You snapped back at him.

You weren't in the mood for him to order you around like this. You were tired and cold. You were worried sick and feeling ashamed right now. The last thing you wanted to do was get inside a truck with a man who had broken your heart tonight.

"Stop being childish and get in the truck." He told you again.

"Why? Won't it make everything worse?" You questioned him sarcastically.

"You're making this worse by not getting inside the truck. It's cold out there. You'll freeze to death." Fp told you in a tired tone.

"Like you care.." You sulked in annoyance.

"Oh c'mon. Stop that! This is stupid, (y/n)."

"How is it? Cheryl Blossom knows about us, Fp. My brother and his friends know that I'm seeing some older guy. It's too late for this." You tried to explain your concerns.

"Right now, I don't care. All I care about is that you're safe.." Fp admitted, before he stopped the truck and finally grabbed your full attention.

Looking back at him a little surprised he was actually opening saying he still cared about you and your safety, you came to a halt on the sidewalk and sighed lightly.

Fp was right. You couldn't walk the streets like this anymore. It was freezing out and this town wasn't exactly the safest right now. You knew that based on your own experience.

Taking one last look around you, you quickly made your way round to the other side of the truck and hopped into the passengers side. As you belted yourself up, Fp put the car back into acceleration and headed down the road.

"Shouldn't you be with Jughead?" You asked him.

"He walked away. He needs sometime to cool off." Fp informed you.

"That makes two of us." You sighed.

"You know there's no going back now, right? We can't continue this even if it was going to be possible. Someone knows about us. We can't go there.."

"I know."

"It's too much of a risk."

"I know."

"You already have enough explaining to do to your brother and I can't have Jughead finding out about this.."

"Fp, seriously," You interrupted him before he could go on anymore, just hearing how messed up all of this was hurting a lot more than you thought it would, "I get it. It's over.."

"I still care about you. Don't think I don't.."

"Please. You don't have to explain yourself or even go there." You turned your head away from him and looked out the window.

You didn't want Fp to see how upset you were about this. It was easier for both of you if you just forgot about it and moved forward, no matter how much it hurt.

Because it never was right.

Probably the wizarding world of Harry Potter.  It’s one of my favorite books/movies and I love everything about their world (minus Voldemort that is ☺).

Oh boy, this is a hard one…I am a total TV & Movie freak so there’s sooo many! I’ll list a few of each but keep in mind the list goes on and on lol.

TV:  Riverdale, iZombie, Shadowhunters, Veronica Mars, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Criminal Minds, The Ranch, Big Bang Theory, The Voice, Pretty Little Liars, Vampire Diaries, Jane the Virgin, The 100, etc, etc, etc lol

Ummm, That’s hard too, I have such a wide taste in everything that it makes it hard to narrow them down lol.  A few of my fav’s are Lady Gaga, Ed Sheeran, Alan Jackson, CCR, Garth Brooks, Adele, Maroon 5, even the Biebs lol

9. Favorite Books?

Again Harry Potter’s, the Vampire Academy books, The Last Vampire series, The Woman of the Otherworld series, Sylvia Day’s Crossfire series, anything written by Nora Roberts, Linda Howard or Christie Craig.  I also used to really enjoy RL Stine and Christopher Pike when I was younger.

10. Favorite Food?

Chinese, perogies and almost all versions of pasta lol

11. Biggest pet peeve?

Bad drivers….people who chew with their mouth open….ignorant people….crumbs on counter tops lol

12. What did you want to be when you were little? What do you want to be now?

A teacher and I’m 34 so already in a career but I think if I could do it again I would maybe be a Radiologist or something to do with Crime Investigation

13. What are your biggest fears? Do you have any strange fears?

Dying is a huge one lol and I get claustrophobic but my main fears are spiders and tornados

14. When you are on your deathbed what would be the one you’d regret not doing?

15. Which is your favorite of the fics you've written for the Bughead fandom?

Well I have so far only written one call Sometimes It’s Not What It Seems, which isn’t your typical ”Bughead” fic, the main relationship currently is FP & Betty (I know, SHOCKER).  It started out being a Bughead fic but these two characters just seem to write themselves.  As far as if Bughead is endgame in this fic....who knows ;).  I am a total Bughead shipper, don’t get me wrong but let’s admit it, Skeet/FP is Hot!  So I decided to take on the story no one was telling.

16. Which was the hardest to write, in terms of plot?

I think just where to take things, I usually start with an idea of how the chapter will go and it changes from there, also trying to stick to the timeline I set out in chapter one…wasn’t thinking ahead there lol

17. How do you come up with the ideas for you fic(s)? Do you people watch? Listen to music? Get inspired by TV/movies?

This one just came to me, I have read, I don’t even know how many Bughead fics on Tumblr and AO3 and it was a concept no one had tackled yet that I could see and this story just wove it’s way in my mind to the point where I had to put it down to get it out of my head.  This is my first fic I have ever written and it was originally supposed to be a one shot but here I am almost 7 chapters in…

Well, since I’ve only done one fic so far I can’t answer that lol

19. Least favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?

The break up between Jug and Betty is always hard but I don’t know if I would say I didn’t like it.

20. Favorite plot point/chapter/moment you’ve written?

Probably chapters 4 to 6, there are so many moments I am happy with in those but one of my favorites is the bar scene on karaoke night ☺

21.Favorite character to write?

I really like writing FP but I also have a lot of fun writing the other Serpents

22. Favorite line or lines of dialogue that you've written?

Probably the deeper conversations between FP & Betty, I really like their banter in my current chapter I’m working on

23. Best comment/review you’ve ever received?

Well I’ve received a lot of good reviews and some not so good ones lol, apparently the Bughead fandom is strong and doesn’t like when you mess with it lol.  The concept of Betty & FP is definitely a hard one to grasp for a lot of people, especially the younger readers I think but I like to think the writing is good and that I am doing the growth of the relationship justice.  My favorite comments have probably been ones on how good the writing is or that I should just write a book lol and I also love it when people comment that they now ship FP & Betty, even if it’s just in my story.  That shows that I am doing something right I think.

24. How do you handle bad reviews or comments?

Sometimes I comment, most the time I don’t as I don’t like to let things get to me, plus I am not one to argue online.  If I do comment I usually just thank them for reading and for their opinion and answer any questions they may have asked.  If they are really rude I just delete them.  Like I said above, there are some hard core shippers out there and I knew there would be some backlash on this risky paring.

25. If you could change anything in any of your stories, what would it be?

The timeline, I set it in the first chapter and I am now finding it really hard to stick to since my characters are just running away with themselves lol

26. What is your favorite story you’ve ever written? Any fandom?

So far this one…as it’s my only one.  However I did write poetry and short stories when I was young, I even had a few poems published.

27. What are you reading right now? Both fan fiction and general fiction?

Currently reading anything in the Bughead fan fiction.  I am also currently reading a Linda Howard book.

28. Do you have an advice for writers that want to get into this fandom but might be scared?

I would say that if you want to do it, just do it.  If you love it then write it, don’t worry about any of the haters out there or what people might think.  I took a huge risk breaking the Bughead pairing with my first fic but it was something ‘I’ wanted to see.  Even some don’t like your story, you were brave to just put it out there, definitely braver than the keyboard warriors sending the bad comments who would never think to put themselves out there.  Writing is personal, remember that you are ultimately writing for you, as long as you are happy with it and you enjoy doing it then it really doesn’t matter what the rest of the readers think (unless of course you want to sell it lol).  I have a few dedicated readers to my story, definitely not a huge amount but as long as I am having fun writing it and they want to keep reading it then I will keep going ☺.

Rodrigues said that companies making splashy hiring announcements in the tech sector is nothing to get excited about.

“We are at full employment,” he said. “If I want to hire somebody to do a job in this country, I literally have to steal that person from another company. I’m not creating a job.”

But it looks like many Canadians don’t share Rodrigues’ concerns about foreign technology investment, according to an online poll 1,111 Canadians done for the Financial Post by research company SurveyMonkey.

The poll found that 18 per cent of respondents thought there were too many foreign technology companies investing in Canada, but 33 per cent said there was “the right amount” and 43 per cent felt there were too few.

The argument for more FDI is neatly laid out by a 2016 report by the federal Advisory Council on Economic Growth: “Foreign direct investment (FDI) is a critical driver of economic growth for both developing and advanced economies. In slower growing advanced economies, new investment by foreign firms in productive capacity can provide a boost to national income and employment. In any economy, it can help raise productivity, competitiveness, and living standards over the long term.”

That same 2016 report voiced concerns that Canada is “falling behind” global peers, and that fear is borne out by Organisation for Economic Co-Operation and Development data.

The OECD reported that Canada had US$69.3 million in foreign investment in 2013, but that has steadily slipped to just US$24.7 billion in 2017.

The slide is even more dramatic when expressed as a percentage of GDP. Canada ranks 27th when comparing foreign investment to the total size of the economy, according to the OECD, behind the U.S., India, Slovenia, the United Kingdom and a host of other countries.

But even though the economic case to reverse dropping FDI numbers is easily made, some in the technology sector continue to complain about the amount of interest foreign players have in Canada.

Part of their unease is the tight labour market, but another widespread complaint is that foreign tech companies that do research and development work in Canada are developing valuable intellectual property on the backs of Canadian workers, but the value of that IP ultimately goes outside the country.

Software is infinitely replicable, so once developers build a product, companies can sell it an unlimited number of times, thereby deriving huge value from the intellectual property.

Most citizens don’t see that as a concern, and welcome foreign tech investment. Indeed, the SurveyMonkey poll found that 55 per cent of respondents said the Canadian government is not doing enough to attract such investment.

The poll coincided with a visit to Ottawa by SurveyMonkey chief executive Zander Lurie. The company is based in San Mateo, Calif., but he called Ottawa the company’s “HQ east” and said he plans on significantly expanding his workforce in Canada.

“We by no means feel like we’re coming in and stealing jobs,” he said “In fact, when we come into a market, we try to concentrate and focus on having a few thriving offices as opposed to many branch offices, so for us, this is very much a consolidated effort to invest in the market, serve our customers better, reward our employees with valuable investments and compensation, and be an active participant in the community.”

As people progress in their careers, they move to bigger roles at different companies, or they follow their entrepreneurial startup dreams. When some of those startups inevitably fail, the tech giants offer a soft fallback job for mid-career tech professionals.

Big, established tech companies could be even more important to the Canadian tech sector — even if they’re foreign companies — because a recent study by University of Toronto professor Richard Florida, director of the Martin Prosperity Institute, suggested that the domestic tech scene is decidedly underwhelming without them.

Florida, working with Ian Hathaway, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution, a U.S. research group, looked at 100,000 venture-capital deals across 300 cities around the globe to quantify the relative levels of tech startup activity.

By focusing on just venture-capital deals, the study gives a picture of what the Canadian tech scene looks like once you strip away the FDI from big tech companies.

“Decidedly third tier” is how Florida described Toronto’s startup ecosystem compared to the innovation powerhouses of the world, namely Silicon Valley, New York, Beijing and Shanghai. Montreal and Vancouver sit another tier below even that.

Florida said the U.S. made up between 90 and 95 per cent of global venture-capital deals in the 1990s, but that has now fallen to less than 50 per cent. Toronto makes up less than one per cent of such deals to rank 20th overall. The next-best Canadian cities are Vancouver at No. 35 and Montreal at No. 47.

“I hope we get these things right, but I think we’re missing the boat more in terms of startups and also in terms of FDI,” Florida said.
