2022: In A Sunshine State
When the year began, the COVID-19 pandemic had begun to loosen its grip but the future was still cloudy. Would we be able to go places again in the summer? See our friends regularly? By the end of the year it felt largely, finally behind us.
I got married this year. We honeymooned in California. I tabled at a zine fair for the first time in years and sold more zines than I had in ten years. I continued to make mixtapes for myself and co-host a weekly professional wrestling podcast with new episodes coming out every week. While Fallen Love might be buried, I still find artistic outlets where I can.
No matter how the world changes, for better, for worse, I have my tent poles. Indiepop will always fuel me. Alternative comics. Old cartoon shows. My cats. My wife. A walk in the woods. A trip to the beach. They can't take that away from us. There are small joys all around you if you can find them.

'Every once in a while something changes
And she's changing me
It's too late for me now, I am altered
There is something beneath
She's not acid nor alkaline
Caught between black and white
Not quite either day or night
She's perfectly misaligned
I'm caught up in her design
And how it connects to mine
I see in a different light
The objects of my desire'
'Alkaline' - Sleep Token

This song is perfect for him and I'm going to fight Sovereign, it's on sight motherfucker
The more I learn about him in just reading little tidbits as well as the apparently extremely widely believed theory that he's Vetra and Sids dad makes my heart break even more and while he was just a ruthless asshole in general, I still don't think he deserved what happened given the actual regret he expressed before.
Well.
This.

Me as Thai people, the chance of seeing Pulp perform in Thailand seemed almost impossible. Yet, that day arrived unexpectedly when Pulp announced a tour in Hong Kong...
On December 2, 2023, I flew to see Pulp at Clockenflap in Hong Kong. It was the first time in my life I got to see an artist I love in person. Honestly, although I've only known this band for about six years, I love their music deeply. Jarvis Cocker's storytelling in his songs captivates me to the point where I almost lose myself in the lyrics.
I find it hard to express my feelings fully and as closely as possible to my native language. What I want to say is, thank you for all of these existing. Your music has helped me through both good and bad times. Thank you, Jarvis, for your unwavering passion in following your dreams and forming this band. You've taught me how important dreams, actions, and self-love are.
Thank you so much.
P.S. Jarvis, please don't fall down any more stairs. Everyone is worried about you!
Another P.S. You can watch this full gig clip that taken by [x]. All of these photos above were taken by me.

Just gonna have a little ranty rant
So it's fairly known if you follow me that I really love Evanescence.
I'm just saying I'm super disappointed with their decision to perform with skillet as an opener.
I just feel like you can't play it both ways you can't want to be seen as an LGBT ally and also have someone who is a Christian nationalist who has said a lot of anti LGBTQ stuff on the same stage. I'm not going to be in an audience with those fans. My humanity and my rights are not a difference of opinion. People who believe they should have dominion over this country because of their religion are not safe people. I'm disappointed evanescence is giving them a platform.
As much as Amy wants to talk about using her voice I think she's too afraid to alienate people and because of that she won't create an actual safe space for marginalized fans.

some tropes i like
in no particular order
Normal person is isekai'd into fantasy world or whatever where we the audience discover that actually they're a total freak who has absolutely never been normal. The character in question still insists that they are normal but its not like an obsession or anything they just don't catch that actually they're fucked in the head
person who gets dragged into bloody conflict just sort of by coincidence and who helps people out and befriends them just out of their own sense of kindness and morals but doesn't really have a personal reason to be involved and is unwilling to kill or do anything more morally grey despite having the power to seriously affect the conflict/save more people if they did is continuously broken and beaten down and shown that their kindness will be exploited and abused until eventually their mercy and kindness and unwillingness to kill comes back to bite them by killing people they've come to genuinely care about, making them snap and turn ruthless. bonus points if they laugh maniacally and berate themselves for being an idiot before going absolutely terrifyingly apeshit
character stuck in a time loop/unable to die/stuck in an inescapable situation for decades is cheerful and joke-y and kind but has a burgeoning madness just under the skin which they are doing a bad job at/aren't really hiding which results from the true core of them being despair from their unavoidable fate
character is so worn away by countless experiences that they become completely unmoved by everything good or bad, left as an empty shell only fueled by a mad obsession
when a tragedy unfolds and in retrospect, it seems like it was all random chance and bad luck which could have been so easily avoided, but even if it was run back a thousand times no one would make a different choice due to who they are, making the tragedy inevitable (especially when no one is "guilty", when the antagonist is also right and justified in their actions and the tragedy only originates in the conflict of interest between two noble goals)
let me clarify #2 a little more because its my favourite.
When a normal person, not a hero or a saint, who is doing their best to live with kindness in the face of a cruel world, has that kindness trampled and broken until they give up on kindness and decide to become the monster they're treated as
lets be clear: this is not "demons run when a good man goes to war" this is about just a normal guy who is dragged into it all by coincidence, trying to live via the morals of society that they've been instilled with but without any true conviction or reason to take more extreme action until they are broken beyond repair.
Characters who are willing to endure, to be patient, to be calm, to not seek out glory or play the hero at every opportunity, who wait and silently gather strength in the shadows. perhaps with a grand goal in mind or perhaps simply for self-preservation. until something forces them to act, during which they are utterly ruthless and make no foolish mistakes.

In one hand the past, in the other the future. Shuffle the deck. It took longer than I wished but I've reached the place where I wanted to be for a long time. Married, happy, building a home and a life together. We're in the best place in our relationship that we've ever been and from here the rest will hopefully sort itself out.
After years of waiting, my boss finally entered me into the management training course and I finished with flying colors. This time next year I'll be running my own store and theoretically making proper adult money finally in my late thirties, an annual salary instead of an hourly one for the first time. From there, more opportunities. A chance to travel, to leave North America for the first time? A chance to try to make more of my dreams come true?
No matter how far I drift, I am always anchored by my past. I don't make five zines per year like I did in my younger days but I sell more than ever when I table at the annual zine fair here every October. I don't fall in love with as many new artists per year as I would like but certain gems still find their way in and I don't give up on the search. In the meantime, I revisit forgotten favorites from days gone by. We've got a long cold stretch ahead of us. Build a fire in your heart.

The downside of watching a Broadway musical live after the original cast has left is that if you prefer the new cast's singing you can't find a recording of it
It's especially hard (or rather, downright impossible) to find a recording if the new cast members you prefer are understudies
Anyway, this is me messaging Hadestown to record Brandon Cameron singing Epic III and Yael "Yaya" Reich singing Flowers and them + Lillias White + rest of new cast singing "Wait for me Reprise" because I need them. The recording of the original cast is just not cutting it for me anymore.
