Best of 2023 Music #6: *NSYNC “Better Place”
Unexpected trilogies can bring unexpected results and surprises.
One of the biggest nobody saw coming when it came to Trolls 3, involved a bit of history being integrated into both the plot and reality.
Branch was unexpectedly revealed to have been part of a band with his four older brothers named BroZone. Of course creative differences in trying to make a family harmony would result in the classic break up trope we’ve seen many times before.
But at the wedding of Gristle and Bridgette band leader John Dory would come back into Branch’s life sending him Poppy and Tiny Diamond on a trip to save the other brothers from a pair of singers wanting to have their own musical experience.
The final scene would reveal one more secret as Branch was part of another group setting the stage for a reunion of the members of *NSYNC for the first time in 20 years.
And with this jam about ironically creating the perfect harmony we saw that Justin, Lance, Chris, JC, and Joey still have what we’ve seen before from them.
Time really does improve things.
SUM 22: The third Trolls film would unexpectedly bring back the members of NSYNC for a reunion and jam that served both the movie and reality quite well.

The english patient was good but as a tragedy/fucked up story/tragic romance/gothic/ truly old fashioned deep romantic fan, it's so so!

eve vacation update: impressed my ex’s extended family (i’m talking cousin’s husband’s sister and her husband levels of extension included here) so much by carrying my team of half his family to absolute crushing the other half (including him) in a more complicated version of charades that they were all like. wow eve how are you so good. you carried the team. we were not beating you. lol

As for music, there’s been a lot of inspiration in that, too. My listening diet these days is mostly: nostalgic jams, instrumental stuff that gives me vibes specific to various writing projects, and Idles. I have become obsessed with Idles in a way I haven’t been with any currently-existing band in…I don’t know how long. I feel a bit silly and teenaged about how obsessed I am with them, but in other ways it’s kind of exciting. It’s kind of nice to have a band that still exists, whom I could ostensibly see live without waiting for some maybe-never-happening reunion tour, that makes me wanna rip my heart out and barf. That makes me say: These songs are EVERYTHING.

Are you looking forward to the Priscilla movie? Or dreading it?
hmmMMm nonnie i'll level with you and say i haven't quite worked out how i feel yet.? 🤔 tw i'm being bitchy ahead lmao
on one hand, i think exploring this aspect of the story is hugely interesting, especially given how it wasn't baz's focus at all and so has remained largely untouched during the recent elvis renaissance. i'm especially interested to see how this adaptation differs in comparison to the 1988 miniseries, given how different of an environment it's being released into... in regards to how priscilla's changed her story in the years since, the way in which protecting elvis' legacy has been a more so fraught endeavor, the increased visibility given the project in the wake of all the other successful elvis media we're seeing, and the fact that the emotionally nuanced story is finally being told by a female director.
on the other hand . i'm definitely wary, for sure, given not only the subject matter but with how quickly it's being released (tho i think that's mostly bc baz spoiled us w so much evidence of his meticulous research). i'm expecting to be disappointed bc i really don't think jacob elordi is a very good actor (sorry), and the only thing of cailee spaeny's i've seen is bad times at the el royale in which i thought she was largely forgettable. i know we've only seen a couple shots so far but what we know of the costuming also has me feeling meh. i liked marie antoinette but don't have much of an opinion on sofia coppola otherwise, and i still haven't seen an a24 movie i liked 😅😅
overall, there's.. not a lot that steers towards practical optimism, for me personally at least. and that's ok.! clearly i'm nooowhere close to being the target audience of this, lmao. i'll probably watch it just to say i have, but even in my wildest dreams i can't see it having any sort of ongoing impact in my life. i think last year kinda tapped me out on that front lmao
