I MADE IT INTO A FANZINE!!!!

I had the opportunity to be a part of the Flower of Nohr Zine (@feelisezine), dedicated to our cinnamon roll princess Elise from Fire Emblem Fates!

This is one of many cute Elise-related things included in this FREE fanzine, so please check it out and enjoy what else was done for this project!

Thank you to all my friends who supported and helped me through this project. I REALLY wanted to do her justice!

There's at least one character in a given FE that makes me go all heart-eyed when they first get introduced. My first Fire Emblem game, Fates Birthright, had such a scene--the part where Elise suddenly appears disguised as a flower girl. That scene nearly became what I chose to reference.

Instead I wanted to reference the fact that she CANONICALLY plays violin, something you'd only know looking at her Revelations support conversations between her and Sakura, which in turned revealed the latter to be a koto player. I happened to stumble across that set of scenes on YouTube and my heart melted on the spot. It was so wholesome! The cherry on top was the inclusion in the soundtrack of an actual violin and koto solo dedicated to them both. (I'm also happy that it's apparently a track in FEH now!)

I considered adding Sakura with my piece, deciding against it due to added complexity and not having drawn any Fates character except for Elise. The violin posing was a lot on its own...

ok chat here’s another Fire Emblem question: Fates Conquest or Shadows of Valentia?

I have not played either game yet, but I did finish Awakening (Normal Classic) and am midway through FE7 (on chapter 19, Eliwood normal mode).

Regarding Awakening I did really like Pair Up and the support system, as well as the progression/reclassing options except for how it took so long to get the promoted class skills (lol at my Cherche only getting Swordbreaker right before the end chapter). Also I didn’t like a lot of the completely flat or enemy-spam maps (looking at you, Inigo Paralogue). I liked the story a good deal (except that the Valm arc felt a little unnecessary and contrived).

Regarding Fates I’m concerned that the fanservice-y elements and plot would detract from my enjoyment of the game, and as for Shadows of Valentia I’ve heard that some of the maps can be dreadful. Additionally, I have no clue at this point whether Normal or Hard would be right for me, since I struggled during the first third of Awakening but steamrolled the last third.

In regards to Fates, one things hasn't changed for me...

I am a Xander stan and am very partial to Conquest.

If it's not Conquest Xander, I don't want it lol

No disrespect to Birthright or Revelations players though! I understand why they might not feel the same, especially with what happens to Ryoma and Takumi in Conquest. And I recognize that it has many flaws, but they honestly don't bother me.

Conquest is just very, VERY personal to me as someone who finds a lot more value in found family than birth family. Conquest has things I LOVE that the other routes don't. I find it much more interesting and powerful to side with Nohr, than with Hoshido or neither. I've honestly only come to love it more over time, and honestly prefer it to any other title.

Xander in particular is probably my biggest comfort character these days (via his trauma, abuse, anxiety, and shy but nervous personality, and just the general complexity of his character) and I just cannot stand to NOT side with him or upset him in any way, much less fight him literally at ALL.

I've also had a great joy working with his relationship with Evangelina, my Fates avatar oc, in The Moonlit Heart. And with the other Nohrian royals too!
