hey, it is very time consuming to look at notifications and have to click into so many of the text post ones because there's no detail at all for what it actually says most of the time.

what decides whether a text post has some of its text shown in the notification tab? why do other posts exclude any preview text altogether? are there plans to change this?

personally, I would love an optional toggle that gives me more verbose notifications. i want to know what text posts people are interacting with, without having to open literally every single one to find out! I don't care if it would look a bit cluttered, i 100% would rather be able to tell exactly what post every notification is for at just a glance.

Answer: Hello there @cinna-bunnie!

Great question. We try to summarize posts for notifications in a variety of ways, but we have limited space in the current notifications space, so we try to optimize it as best as we can. There is always room for improvement, though, so if you find specific posts that seem like they are missing a text summary that should be there, please feel free to send them to us in a Support ticket, and we’ll take a look! There may be a bug here we can fix.

It is unlikely that we’ll make our notifications longer or more verbose, even as a toggle, because we’d have to store even more redundant data in the notification. Ultimately, we want activity and notifications to be quick and easy to parse through, which typically means small and concise.

yes yes jokes about the UI changes are funny haha but please. please remember to question your knee-jerk reaction of anger and disgust, and consider why changes may have been made and how people with different circumstances from you may be impacted. larger headers and icons with an outlined follow button make it easier for people who have issues with vision to see. we only recognized people by the colors in their avatar and not by the actual avatar because they were so damn small we couldn't see the details. i know this is the autism website i know change sucks but please. please remember that UI changes aren't Automatically Evil And Bad and that they may be good and useful for some people, even if they're not to you personally.

tbh on a purely functional level (meaning ignoring site culture or staff behavior etc etc) the only notable changes in quality in tumblr over the last decade is ads are way too frequent now and the ‘nsfw ban’ sucks

I swear a toggle for “contains commercial content” while editing a post. What’s that about?

Answer: Hi, @iguanodonwildman!

We are glad you asked. The answer, in short, is that the toggle is there to comply with the European Union's Digital Services Act (DSA). It simply adds a “Commercial Content” banner to the post and does not affect your post’s visibility or ranking on Tumblr.

I hate stepping on toes but apparently it's unavoidable as I cannot view or click or access in any way any of the posts sources (or even where they're reblogged from) on my dash. Going into the notes section and viewing the reblogs merely navigates me to that person's blog, not the specific post I'm seeking the source of.

This has been happening to me for over a month that I figured it was just a feature of Tumblr dot com, so I stopped complaining after the initial wave of complaints. But now I'm just annoyed because I'm coming across as an asshole who won't reblog from sources. I literally cannot access them.

I think my biggest issue with the "drama" is how they're... ironically, dramatizing it. I'm not defending the hate Zeal got, especially the death-threats and everything, thats weird, wacky, and entirely uncalled for especially considering the topic of this drama is a literal fictional fish character. But it feels like they focused on that outside of the other weird stuff coming from them.

It's an official server, supposed to be for everyone that likes the game. If it was actually uncomfortable matters, like NSFW or such, then absolutely yes, I agree they should be banned. But why does self-shipping make them uncomfortable, when Zerum/Sebastian is allowed? Why does normal, everyday dresses make them uncomfortable? It feels weird to ban normal topics for what's supposed to be a hub for the community.

Obviously the hate was expected but no less uncalled for, but I think the devs behavior made it worse. I find it weird and petty that Zerum likes her character so much that they find it fit to ban innocent art in the official server. People will say she and Zeal are free to do what they want, and I'll agree that they have that right as the server owners, but they can't be annoyed that people misinterpret or get annoyed with what they say.

Sorry for the long rant, I was gonna say more but I don't wanna bother you anymore than I have already. You're free to disagree or disregard everything I say, I've just been thinking of this a little bit.

NO LITERALLY like. "all ship art" is banned in the server but if its zerum/sebastian it gets pinned? and why do drawings of seb in feminine clothing make you so uncomfortable that youve banned it. thats weird idk idk. like if its suggestive yeah i understand banning it bc its a big server and there are definitely minors in there but like. any feminine clothing at all? not even a flowy shirt? whats up with that

and thh zerum seemed to enjoy people being (even just minorly) upset at the fact that shes "canonically" married to sebastian (yea i know its actually canon but idgaf) and it just feels like shes instigating on purpose TBH. (screenshot taken from twt)

i utilize filtering all the time it's my favorite function im kissing it for being a working feature, but god i wish you didn't have to scroll thru all your filtered tags to add to your filtered content list
