I been working on some original stuff since BNHA ended, and this is my babygirl zombieboy Fetch! He's this reanimated living-dead guy with no memory of who he is and how he died, dodging his hot possessive necromancer whilst trying to close some dirty gurt portal to a demon dimension. So you can imagine the sort of stress he's been under. Join me on Patreon and BSKY coz that's where he lives.

Prompt 114
Jaskier is sat at camp, DRENCHED. "You're lucky the drowners didn't start going for you!" Geralt was ranting at Jaskier, as he had been for quite a few minutes now. "How was I meant to know that the branch I was on was unsturdy?" "All the ways I've showed you how to check for that!" Geralt growls at him, which... Well, fair. "The worst part of it all is I lost one of my rings!" Jaskier whines, he glances a look at Geralt and sees a thunderous expression, thus he glances away again. "...I am sorry, Geralt. I didn't mean to get in the way." Geralt softens a bit and sighs. "Just... Don't do it again." The next morning, Geralt wakes Jaskier up by chucking a ring at his face. "Geralt! Oh thank you! However did you find it?" Geralt just grunts a bit but thankfully accepts Jaskier's praise and thanks for the rest of the day. "...Geralt-" "What? What is it?" "I- One of my rings is gone, I don't know what to do-" Geralt sighs. "Can't we just buy you another?" "No! This one was special!" It was one Geralt bought for him after all. Geralt slinks off and returns a few hours later, holding out the ring, much to Jaskier's delight. "You're so good at finding them!" "It's not that hard." Bullshit, Jaskier thinks. Jaskier is ripping his rings off in a rush in order to start tending Geralt, only to accidentally fling one toward the poor man. Geralt reaches up and catches the ring in mid-air, before grimacing as the movement had pulled at one of his wounds. "Oh, Thank you, Geralt!" Jaskier tosses a ring to Geralt one day and asks him to store it in a bag, safely. A few days afterward, Jaskier asks Geralt to find the ring in the bags and give it back. But then realizes Geralt is staring at his hands. He's waiting to be asked to get the other rings. With a look of... Excitement? Joy? "Geralt, do you really enjoy bringing my rings to me that much?" Jaskier asks, before cringing as it had clearly embarrassed Geralt. "It's not a bad thing! I think it's cute!" He says in a rush. It's official. Geralt loves to fetch. Like a dog. They now have a new routine at camp, that whenever they had nothing to do, Jaskier would toss some things, and Geralt would either catch them, or race after them as they soared through the air into the distance. Jaskier is bloodied and exhausted. His arms are tied in front of him, but he still can't seem to rip his gag off. His parents have sent for him, he just knows it. They probably have some noblewoman they want him to marry, or some relative died and they think it'll be a perfect segue into making him perform his duties. As if. Jaskier slips off one of his rings, and tosses it to the ground as the wagon pulling him starts riding off toward his birthplace. Hopefully Geralt is still just as determined to return the ring as usual.

Walking with the Fetch: A Personal Note on the Witch’s Double
Something changed in me last autumn. Just as the land turned toward rot and windfall, the fetch (the spirit-double) stepped forward. Not just in dream or flight, where I’ve known it before, but into my waking life. It came with accusations, with hunger. It told me I let it wither, and I did. Caged up like a dog I had refused to train and felt shame towards.
The fetch isn’t a familiar spirit, it’s not some external guide or pact-bound ally. It’s the witch’s other self. The part that flies out under the cover of night, but also the part that whispers to you when you speak lies, urges your hand when it wavers, and howls when you ignore the wildness in you too long. Folklore tells of it, though it’s often unnamed, the double that slips out at night, the shadow-self met in trance, the second shape that leaves the body behind. It can walk beside you or take the lead, and when it’s strong, it tests you.
Since its return, mine has done exactly that.
The fetch doesn’t just appear for show, it demands expression. It wants the part of you that howls and schemes and hungers to live a little louder. It pulls you toward greatness, yes, but sometimes at the cost of your security. It whispers choices that are clever, but not kind. It pushes you toward power without asking what it costs.
I’ve found myself questioning decisions lately. Feeling tugged towards bold action, towards sharp words I might once have held back. The fetch is not evil it is the unsettling truth. It knows what I could be, if I shed certain skins, and it isn’t always interested in what’s “right.” It’s interested in what’s necessary.
So I made terms with it. Not to silence it, but to shape the bond. I gave it an offering and asked for its loyalty, telling it what I would allow, and what I would not. I felt it accept but not submissively, with understanding and respect.
And now? I feel it near more often. Animals look twice and the wind feels different when I walk alone. The choices I make taste a little more coppery at the back of my throat.
This isn’t something many witches talk about, when the fetch becomes an influence, not just a vehicle. When it begins shaping your instincts, your hungers, your boldness. In older texts (especially among cunning folk and those accused of flight) you’ll find echoes of it, witches who gained cunning through their double, but who also grew strange in their dealings, changing in subtle but profound ways. (You can find more about this in Cunning Folk and Familiar Spirits by Emma Wilby, and Henderson & Cowan’s Scottish Fairy Belief.)
The fetch is a part of you, but not the part that wants peace. It’s the part that wants power with teeth grinding and claws scratching at the inside of your wrist. And if you don’t meet it half way, it might act without you.
So meet it. Make terms, offer something real. Follow the path it carves for you with discernment. Give it blood under a tree, breath over still water, a name whispered backwards at the edge of sleep.
Mine walks with me now. And though it doesn’t speak as often, I feel its influence curling around my choices and desires.
And I am learning not to flinch.

what tumblr is *actually* really particularly good at as a group rather than as individual famous posters (such as dril on twitter), and this is something we share with 4chan, is originating and then popularizing particular jokes and meme phrases. we are good at coining things. "coining a phrase" means to say something with a particular flourish or carefully-chosen compositional attention in an effort to make the phrase "stick" in some way. for example, "stop trying to make 'fetch' happen" (which became a meme in of itself) is a response to a person attempting to coin a phrase--in this case, referring to things as "fetch" (adjective)--in a way that is not working. i think that tumblr, as a group, is very good at making fetch happen.
"blorbo" is a perfect example of a word that was made up on tumblr and has now become widespread over multiple social networks and is in (limited) use in irl verbal conversation. whatever our personal individual feelings on it (and a lot of us are fed up with it/find the term annoying because it got REALLY saturated here) it's so good that it will likely (i think! this is my prediction) become a permanent resident in american slang as long as it is useful, and this is because there was an empty space where that term was needed: a term for a person from a work of fiction that the speaker (the person who says "blorbo from my shows" in the hypothetical scenario invoked by the post) is particularly interested in, but whom the listener (the hypothetical "you") has no familiarity with.
fandom as an activity is extremely old at this point (no not dante's inferno fuck off) so it's likely we have had terms like this before that either weren't successfully coined, deprecated out of common usage, or which i personally am not familiar with. but when the blorbo post was made, there was an empty space where that term WAS needed in many conversations that were being had. oh yeah, blorbo from your shows. all my friends have blorbos from their shows. i do not have a pre-existing term for this, i would have just referred to that concept as "characters from shows i havent watched, which my friends talk about all the time". it is convenient to have the term "blorbo" for this, and it was particularly canny as a choice of phonemes because it references how fucking stupid all the Star Wars Expanded Universe names are (and always have been, speaking as an old school SWEU fan [NOT ANYMORE]). ponda baba? sebulba? max rebo. the intergalactic jizz wailers. sy snootles. fuck off
coining a phrase successfully actually uses marketing principles, or vice versa really, to launch a word that "sticks". we can use "fetch" as the counter-example: there was no demand for "fetch" in that market (the setting of the film).
this is a sort of cousin to the now-deprecated phrase "it's all greek to me", which meant "i don't understand this, it is as unfamiliar to me as someone speaking greek, a language i dont understand [and which is considered by my culture to be difficult to understand and/or archaic]". but instead of invoking an actual language to exemplify
EDIT 6:19AM PST: i apparently just hit "Post" before finishing the post. i think i had more thoughts about "its all greek to me" but i dont know what they were and its not important
