Boeing Is Everything Wrong With American Capitalism
Excuse my language, but why is Boeing such a shitty corporation?
Their planes are literally falling apart in the sky.
At least six Boeing planes have had parts fall off this year — including an exit door in mid-flight. A whistle-blower has accused Boeing of a “criminal cover-up” of its safety failures.
But beyond this one company, Boeing’s descent is a case study in how American capitalism has become so rotten. Let me explain.
I’m old enough to remember when people used to say “If it’s not Boeing, I’m not going.”
But in 1997, everything changed when Boeing merged with McDonnell Douglas and became the only major maker of commercial aircraft in America. With no domestic rivals, it no longer needed to stay on the cutting edge of innovation.
Executives at Boeing who once specialized in engineering were replaced with Wall Street types who looked down on the engineers. One money-hungry CEO described those who cared too much about the integrity of Boeing’s planes, and not enough about its stock price, as “phenomenally talented assholes.”
To keep Wall Street happy, Boeing began spending billions on stock buybacks that pumped up the value of shares — money that could have been spent on safety and innovation.
It doled out hundreds of millions on campaign contributions and lobbying to lower safety standards, rake in massive government contracts, and boost its bottom line.
To cut costs, Boeing outsourced roughly 70% of its design, engineering, and manufacturing rather than rely on its experienced union workforce.
To further undercut its union, Boeing opened an assembly plant in South Carolina, a notorious anti-union state. Executives reportedly told managers not to move any unionized employees there.
This quest for profit resulted in massive quality control problems that were reported by engineers and machinists, but allegedly ignored by management. All of this inevitably led to the deadly safety issues Boeing faces today.
And because of Boeing’s monopoly-like power, it has been largely immune from any repercussions for its poor performance.
Boeing made it seem like it was punishing executives who led it astray by firing them, but still rewarded them with “golden parachutes” on the way out.
Folks, Boeing’s troubles should serve as a cautionary tale. It’s reflective of broader trends in our economy over the past forty years. Monopolization. Wealth siphoned off to rich shareholders at the expense of everyone else. Cutting corners on safety to save a dime. Bashing unions. All while spending big money lobbying the government.
Boeing may have become a shitty company, but that doesn’t mean we have to put up with it.
The government has the power to increase antitrust enforcement to bust up big companies — something that we are already starting to see in other industries.
It should also attach strings to government contracts and subsidies to ensure that private corporations are working in the best interest of the country, and not just their bottom lines.
It should ban stock buybacks, which were illegal before the Reagan administration, so profits are put back into improving the company, including the safety of products, rather than solely padding investors’ wallets.
Union power should be rebuilt, so that workers can once again act as a countervailing force to Wall Street.
And we should continue the fight to get Big Money out of politics.
It’s not too late to reverse course and chart a new flight path.

matches could get a little tense, but never this bad.
a/n: i go back to school in two days and im not ready to deal with the stress of everything once again so i wrote this to comfort me :) i promise i'll write for anime soon lol.
pairing: jamie tartt x f!reader
warnings: you literally get a water bottle thrown at you :)
Basically, it had all gone to hell in a matter of seconds.
What had been nothing more than any regular game you’ve gone to hundreds of times, turned into a full out brawl that left your heart racing in fear. You’d been up in the box with Rebecca, Keeley and Higgins as you always were, happily watching Richmond play while your eyes specifically gravitated towards a certain player with the number nine on his back.
Richmond was winning and you’d been very vocal and very loud about your excitement and support (like you always were) the entire game. Jamie seemed to be especially on fire that day after securing one goal himself and assisting with two other ones, which happily placed Richmond in the lead of three to one.
But it wasn’t an at home match, and it seemed like some of the fans who cheered for their home team didn’t appreciate just how loudly you and your friends were cheering.
After Jamie manages to score another goal himself, you’re jumping up to your feet, decked out in red and blue with Jamie’s number happily adorning your back. You scream so loud even though your throat already feels raw from how loud you’d been cheering the entire match, Keeley’s hands tightly clutching your arms as the both of you jump up and down. Jamie is being tackled by his teammates and you watch the celebration with a fond smile, cheeks flushed, skin slightly warm with sweat as the whole match catches up to you.
Then, suddenly, there’s something smacking you right in the forehead.
It’s a surprise enough, not having expected the hit, but it hurts enough to knock you off balance. You stumble backwards on your feet and feel Keeley’s grip tighten on you as she tries to catch you. Your hand falls to your forehead where you’d been heard, winching when it throbs in response, lowering your gaze only to see a water bottle on the ground next to your feet and when your eyes glance ahead of you, you see a pair of blazing eyes staring back at you.
“Babes,” Keeley calls out in shock, pulling your eyes on her as she glances at your forehead. “Are you–”
“Shut your damn whore mouth!”
You’ve hardly processed what’s happening before you realize that the man is trying to climb his way up to your seats, and Keeley is harshly pulling you back to safety. You distantly hear Rebecca calling out for security as Higgins tries to guide everyone else to safety as well. You know you should snap out of it and help Keeley but your vision is blurring and your heart is racing and everything is suddenly too much that you’re stuck staring at the pair of eyes that seem to wish the absolute worst for you.
The man manages to grab your arm before you can fully pull away, digging his nails into your arm as you let out a small cry before Keeley rips his grasp off of you and fully tugging you away. She pulls you to face her, shoving her in front of you when it was clear that you were the man’s target and you see security rushing past you as second later as you’re pulled away from the stadium and down the hall.
Rebecca is rushing to get medics and Keeley is trying to ask you if you’re okay but you can’t think straight. You keep glancing over your shoulder in fear that somehow the man will be there, but of course he isn’t and before you know it you’re being tucked away into a room and sat on a bench where Rebecca returns with some of Richmond’s medics.
Keeley stays there, holding your hand tightly as the medic checks you over. You squeeze her hand without even realizing it, your heart still pounding madly against your chest as the medic cleans the scratches the man had managed to dig into your arm and place a bandage over them. She confirms that you have a very mild concussion from the plastic water bottle hitting your head and she wants you to rest in the room for a bit before heading home, and only if you have someone to drive you home.
Luckily, Keeley is able to assure that you do when you find yourself unable to speak, and then the medic is leaving with one final goodbye and a nod Rebecca’s way.
“Babe,” Keeley calls softly, “are you–”
“Where is she?” A sudden voice booms and you react to something for the first time since everything had happened, back straightening as your eyes fall towards the door in alert. “Oi, where is Y/N? Y/N–”
Whatever Jamie had been about to say promptly falls shut the second he reaches the door and his eyes catch yours. His face falls when he sees you, the wild panic in his eyes morphing to concern when he takes you in and before you realize it you’re jumping off the bench and he’s wrapping his arms around you before you can even take one step.
You wrap your arms around him tightly, burying your head into the crook of his neck as a small sob leaves your lips. Jamie presses a hand to the back of your head in response, worried eyes flickering over to Keeley who’s offering him a small smile and a hand to your back before she steps out with Rebecca, the two of them giving you some privacy.
“I’m so sorry it took me so long to get ‘ere,” Jamie rambles the second he’s sure you’re alone. He pulls back, moving to cup your cheeks as his eyes traces your injuries, frowning deeply when he sees the bruise that’s welling on your forehead. “We were already leaving the pitch when it happened and when I tried to turn around, I couldn’t get through. I tried to get to you as soon as possible, love. Are… what happened?”
It’s like everything finally catches up to you. The tears welling in your eyes finally fall as you clutch onto him tightly, relying on his presence heavily, shaking your head. “I dunno,” you mumble. “One second I’m cheering for your win and then a water bottle is being thrown at my head. Jamie, he was so angry… the man who hit me and then he was trying to get to me and I froze… I… I was so scared.”
Using his thumb to brush away your tears, Jamie shakes his head, shushing you gently. “I’m so sorry, love. I should’ve been there.”
You just shake your head; “you couldn’t have known. Keeley helped get me away and Rebecca got security as soon as possible.”
“Then I owe them the whole world for keeping you safe for me,” he mumbles, pressing a kiss to your forehead, careful not to put pressure on your injury. “And I’ll personally make sure that that man is never allowed to a single match ever again. And worse.”
Nodding, you reach up and grab his hands in your hand, leaning against him. “I couldn’t think properly until I saw you,” you explain, registering that you hadn’t really listened to the medic when she was trying to help you. And you hadn’t thanked Rebecca or Keeley yet, which you would need to. “I think I was in shock.”
“Of course ya were,” Jamie agrees. “What ya went through… ya never should have had to. I’m so sorry that it even happened in the first place.”
You just shake your head, pressing a kiss to his palm. “I think the medic said I only had a mild concussion. And that you need to drive me home.”
“Done,” Jamie agrees with ease, “you practically already live with me. Will ya be okay takin’ the bus back home with the boys? I don’t really want ya to be alone.”
You nod with ease. “I want to be with you,” you assure, meeting his gaze. “Rebecca’s private jet is lovely but I need you.”
“Then you’ve got me,” Jamie promises, pulling you in for a hug once more, holding you tightly as if afraid you’d disappear from his fingers. “Always.”

A place to sneak away to
You'd think being away together on a mission would make everything easier, but as you've come to understand, it has it's fair share of drawbacks. Seeing him in battle was casting a spell of lust over you; the swift motions and the ruthlessness of his attacks were making your heart flutter. As inconvenient as it was, you needed him now.
CW: NSFW, MDNI, gn!reader, public sex, established relationship
Sanji, Zoro, Law
Sanji: public restroom. Sanji was in the same boat as you in terms of his delusions of how wonderful it would be to spend each moment right beside you on a mission. Being there to protect you, your knight in shinning armor, having you swoon over him: all of which were shattered by the rude awakening of reality. He still loved being able to protect you yet had hoped there would've been more chances for cheeky kisses and passionate embraces.
The last fight caught the both of you off guard. You and him were on the same wave length, however, and managed to fend off the attackers. Taking a moment to get his bearings, he shifted his attention to you. He'd be lying if he wasn't taken by surprise at least a little bit by the desire looming behind your eyes.
When you rushed towards him, he instinctively held out his arms to catch you. Your kiss met him with such force that it nearly made him stumble backwards. Gripping his collar, you let him in on your intentions. Hearing how much you needed him just as much as he needed you made this man yank you into the closest building so quickly that you could barely comprehend what was happening.
He managed to immediately scout out the restrooms and practically dragged you to them. After promptly locking the door, the fire that'd been building between the two of you was finally being given the chance to burn hot and bright. The embers from it were heating your bodies, leaving your cheeks flushed.
Despite him being a rather gentle lover, he was pawing at you in despiration as he squeezed your hips and ass tightly. He tugged your pants down and you returned his eagerness. A few strokes from you was enough to edge him; he'd already been waiting far too long and would not stand to wait a moment longer. Easing you up on the sink, he shoves himself as deep as he can within you, being sure to catch the moans seeping out of you with a loving kiss.
Zoro: alleyway. He's determined to complete the mission, which means his mind hasn't been wandering like yours. The both of you had been fending off enemies left and right, but you were making rookie mistakes―leaving yourself open to attack being the most potentially fatal. Your imagination was starting to hinder your abilites in combat, drawing his attention to you in a much less favorable way than you'd wanted.
Expressing his annoyance with you, the shouting was underlined with a tone of concern. He was, of course, very protective of you, and what would that mean for him if you got injured and he couldn't save you? No, he wasn't having any of that. He demanded to know what'd gotten into you.
Knowing that you'd caused him distress for your safety, you felt slightly embarrassed by your lude thoughts. You leaned in closer and told him in a hushed voice what'd been causing your slip-ups. He snapped back and scoffed, thinking how you could possibly let something so trivial impede your survival in battle.
Taking a moment to process your confession, he then scanned the area and settled on an alleyway. He led you there, forcing you to quicken your pace so that you wouldn't be dragged by him.
It was still broad daylight and plenty of people were still out on the streets, though he figured if you were reckless enough to endanger yourself, you'd be reckless for just about anything.
He pinned you firmly against the brick wall and wasted no time in unleashing his already stiffened length. Without needing instruction, you followed his lead. However, you were met with a low grunt and a swift slap of your hand when you attempted to touch him. Forcing you to turn around, he dragged you both closer to the ground, hiding your indecency behind the dumpster. "If you want to act like a dirty whore, then I'll treat you like one," he hissed in your ear and ruthlessly forced his way into you.
Law: cave. These urges of yours could not have come at a more troublesome time. Not only did you feel forced to suppress them because you knew Law would outright reject the idea of doing anything sexual in the jungle, but your mission involved gathering information from the nearby navy base. Such misfortune was leaving you in a mental fog and in need of an outlet for release. You started making careless mistakes, which then earned you a spiteful glare from him.
Cornering you after narrowly escaping being captured by the marines, he pressed you for answers as to why you were acting like such a fool. Feeling more on edge from the confrontation, you suddenly blurted out the honest reason.
Despite his scowl burrowing into the depths of your soul, a faint hue appeared on his face. He clentched his fists and let out an exasperated sigh. As you watched him turn away from you, you worried if you'd been acting too out of turn for his liking. However, just as you were starting to berate yourself, you heard his stern command for you to follow him.
He was still avoiding direct eye contact and wearing a frown, even though the redness on his cheeks had deepened. Pointing at a nearby cave, he motioned for you to follow. You were trailing behind and upon reaching the entrance, he hastily pulled you inside.
Although he was getting more and more noticeably worked up, he made it known that this was only to shut you up, "If this is the only thing that will make you focus on our mission, so be it."
Your body was finally getting the touch it'd been craving, causing you to be too noisy given the circumstances. He clasped his hand over your mouth and bit down on your neck in an attempt to silence you, "Shut up," he warned. Then after promptly folding you into a mating press, he harshly bucked himself inside you.

PAINTBALL | ARSENAL WOMEN X READER
Tumblr media
pairings: arsenal women x reader
summary: in which you're involved in a chaotic paintball battle with your friends
warnings: none
✦ ——— ✦ ——— ✦
Beth gasped as you shoved Katie down, taking a hit to the chest.
"I've got her!" Katie yelled, dragging you to safety and checked your pulse. "She's still alive!"
"Of course she is," Viv mumbled, taking aim and shooting Leah in the leg as she ran into the open. "This isn't a real battle."
You sat up, giving Katie a thumbs up. "Just paintball, Katie."
Beth shrieked as a series of paintballs hit the towers behind her and Viv, both of them ducking down.
"Give it a shot." Katie nudged you with her gun and you nodded.
Rolling onto your knees, you poked your head above the small fort and spotted Kyra with two paintball handguns. "What! Where did she get those? Not fair."
You closed one eye and aimed before pulling the trigger as three paintballs shot out and hit Kyra along her shoulders and arms. "Ha!"
"Get down!" Viv chided you three, getting back to her position. "If you stay up too long, you'll-"
A pink paintball was splattered behind them with paint flying everywhere and added to the array of colours in Viv’s and Beth's hair.
"AH!" Viv swore under her breath in Dutch.
"Viv, no! Wait!" Beth tried to grab Viv and pull her down, but she was already standing and shooting randomly at where Kyra, Leah, Caitlin, and Lia were hiding.
Caitlin jumped up and made it one step forward before paintballs were pelted at her everywhere. And while everyone was distracted targeting poor Caitlin, Kyra rolled out, aiming her gun and shot Viv in the chest.
"Vivi, nooo!" Beth dramatically wailed out.
She yanked Viv down, half cradling, half strangling her while Viv tried to break free. "Oi! Let me go! I'm fine! I'm not dead!"
Beth wiped away a fake tear. "In the world of paintball, you are."
As Viv rolled her eyes at Beth's melodramatic display, the three of you huddled together, plotting your next move. The battlefield was filled with laughter and shouts as paintball pellets whizzed through the air.
You wiped a streak of paint off your cheek and exchanged determined glances with Katie and Beth.
"We need a strategy," you said, your voice low. "We can't let them take us down one by one."
Katie nodded, her eyes scanning the field. "Let's focus on Lia and Caitlin first. They seem to work well together, and if we eliminate one of them, the other will be easier to handle."
Beth sniffled theatrically, still cradling Viv. "Vivi, my love, we shall avenge you! We will paint the field with the colours of victory! Your sacrifice will not be in vain."
Viv couldn't help but laugh at the absurdity of it all. "Just make sure you actually hit them, unlike the sorry attempt you made to save me."
The three of you broke into laughter, and once the giggles subsided, you set your plan into motion. Sneaking through the field, you took cover behind barricades and crates, moving stealthily towards Lia and Caitlin's position.
As you approached, you signalled to Katie and Beth to be ready. With a coordinated attack, you emerged from cover, firing a series of paintballs at Lia and Caitlin. The two opponents fought valiantly, but your combined assault overwhelmed them.
Lia was the first to go down, her colourful attire now adorned with splatters of paint. Caitlin, still defiant, tried to retaliate, but Beth, channelling her inner warrior, charged forward and unleashed a flurry of paintball fury. Caitlin's resistance crumbled, and she joined Lia in paint-covered defeat.
"Two down!" Katie exclaimed, exchanging triumphant high-fives with you and Beth. "Now, Leah is next."
You regrouped, strategising your approach to take down Leah, who was proving to be a formidable opponent.
“You can’t get me, losers!” Leah yelled out as she sprinted away from you.
“Don’t be so sure about that!” With a combination of flanking manoeuvres and coordinated attacks, you managed to corner Leah. And with a well-aimed shot, she had no choice but to surrender to the colourful onslaught.
“Hah! Take that, Williamson!” You jumped in joy while Leah playfully glared at you as she was dramatically sprawled out on the floor. “Who’s the loser now?”
Your little victory was cut short when dramatic gasps were heard from Beth and Katie. While you’d been busy with Leah, Kyra had taken the chance to sneak up behind those two and had surprised them with a rapid blast of paintballs.
“Gotcha!” Kyra exclaimed, grinning at her successful ambush as those two went down. “It’s only me and you now, Y/n!”
The battlefield was now eerily quiet, with only the distant sounds of laughter and shouts from other ongoing matches. You and Kyra were the last ones standing, facing off against each other.
"Ready to surrender, Kyra?" You called out, crouching behind a makeshift barricade.
Kyra's laughter echoed across the field. "Not a chance, Y/n! I've still got a few tricks up my sleeve."
The two of you engaged in a lively exchange of paintball shots, dodging and weaving through the obstacles. Paint splatters filled the air as the vibrant colours painted the battlefield. The tension between you and Kyra was palpable, but there was also a shared sense of enjoyment in the competition.
As the battle raged on, you managed to catch Kyra off guard with a well-timed shot. A burst of laughter erupted from your lips as the paintballs landed on her, covering her shoulders and arms.
"I gotcha, Kyra!" You exclaimed, revelling in the sweet taste of victory.
Kyra dramatically staggered, clutching her chest in mock defeat. "Noooo!"
Theatrically, she collapsed to the ground while your teammates rushed to join you, cheering and celebrating the hard-fought victory. Beth and Katie, still covered in paint, embraced you, and Viv playfully patted you on the back.
"You did it, Y/n!" Beth laughed. "You've avenged us all!"
You then approached Kyra with a playful grin, offering her a hand. "You put up a great fight."
Kyra took your hand, pulling herself up with a grin. "You too, Y/n. You got me this time, but I won’t let you win next time."
The two of you chuckled and joined your friends, huddling together for a group photo that you no doubt would cherish deeply.

Think of this yeah, Predators and the PURGE. The one time of the year where everyone is trying to kill one another. It'll be like a birthday party for them.
They encounter reader who is running away from a group who infiltrated her house. They kill her agressors allowing her a chance to escape.
Reader, thankful for the predators intervention saves it when it is heavily injured later on that night and helps it hide from the authorities when dawn breaks.
The Purge
Pairing: Dai'stbaen (Male Yautja) x GN!Reader
Warnings: Kinda gory?, decapitation, blood
Word Count: 3928
Summary: Every year, on the same day, chaos is allowed to break loose. This year, you are caught up in trouble you didn't think would happen. Let alone what you find participating in this year's hunt. No would believe.
Author Note: I love this! It's such a classic idea. They really should make a crossover movie or at least a book about this. Reminds me of Predator 2 with City Hunter in the city.
Masterlist
Ao3
Everyone knew this day was coming. A day that brought upon extreme emotions from the pit of their stomachs. Including yourself. Someone who didn’t want to be caught up into the chaos of people dying and the riots. You decided to barricade yourself in your house, armed with a few weapons. Anything to help you to survive till the next day.
When the message began to scream through the T.V about todays events, you find yourself locked away in your room. You are armed to the teeth with knives, a few guns, bats, and other weapons. Whatever you could get your hands on, you collected it. Today is not the day you die.
After the T.V went silent, you held your breath and waited for the first sign of death to pierce the tense air. You jumped at the first shot with the setting sun. This wasn’t the first purge, nor the second you’ve endured. To this day, you count your lucky stars you’ve managed to survive through each of those. Today is no different. You will survive.
Gun fire was sharp in the air outside of your house. Neighbors getting rid of disputes in the harshest of ways. Those who are dark inside of their soul, taking their anger out on anyone who dared to step foot out of the safety of their house. Not you. Yes, you had some pent up anger over life but to possibly loose your life to another, you wouldn’t chance it.
The front door groaned when a massive weight was thrown against it. Your eyes widen to the size of saucers, heartbeat beginning to quicken. This couldn’t be happening.
Your blood ran cold when another bang echoed through the hallway. Who… why? Your mind races to think who would come after you. Who have you screwed over enough to have them come kill you? Not someone you didn’t want to meet but the choice wasn’t yours to make anymore.
On the third slam, the wooden door frame gave way. The door crashed into the wall and most likely left a knob sized hole behind. You flinched and clutched your pistol tightly while watching the bedroom door. Only a simple lock stopped anyone from waltzing in. With the way this person barreled your front door down with only three tries, means this will be nothing.
One of the known creaky floorboards let you know they were entering the hallway. Of course, your bedroom was the first door down this narrow hallway. Both doors to each bedroom may be closed but…
Wood splintered from the door frame. You yelped, hands coming up to take aim. Blood splattered over the floor with an ear splintering shot. Your gun cold. The attacker fell down to his knees then dropped face first into his own blood. The body of one of your neighbors laid dead in the doorway. Your jaw slumped at the very sight in your own home.
A dark figure stepped up behind the down body. An imposing frame that squeezed its way into the hallway. You could only watch the shadow form lean down and grasp the skull of your dead neighbor. A sickening sound filled the air. Bone ripped straight out of the flesh it was once encased with.
Surviving two of these purges, you’ve seen a fair share of gore and gruesome images… but this takes the cake.
Blood forever staining your carpet as this beast clipped the skull and spine to its belt. Frozen like a prey in headlights, you watched it pick up its head and gaze directly at you.
Instantly, you felt like prey in the face of a predator. You were next. But, your hand refused to squeeze the trigger. To do anything to defend yourself in the face of death. The barrel of the gun itself shook far too much to even make a clean shot on the attacker.
Its eyes glowed a deadly red before the shadow itself was gone. A few moments passed before you stumbled back against your bed and gripped at your head.
Nothing made sense. That was no human. Nothing in mankind could rip the skull cleanly out of another mans body like that did. You shuttered and heaved with each breath, attempting to suck out all the air in the room. That still wasn’t enough.
Once the thundering in your ears finally quieted, you took a lungful of air in then slowly breathed it out. You peeked down at the lifeless body of your neighbor again and cringed deeply at the sight. Copper was heavy in the air. You gnawed on your bottom lip and mauled over all of your thoughts.
The only place that resembled safety had been broken into and marred. Now, with the front door wide open and little to block anyone from just pushing it back open, you were faced with a hard decision. Either leave the comfort of your home and wander through the darkness of the night or stay as a sitting duck. If your neighbor who had to be mad you forgot to mow your grass one time was angry enough to attempt murder, there’s no telling who else could be coming for you.
Plus… that shadow figure. Who knows if it will come back to finish the job. You didn’t want to be here to find out.
With one last glance down at Richard, you stepped over his cooling body and headed towards the door. A rifle was strapped to your back; a pistol attached to your hand; multiple knives in various areas. All different kinds of weapons. You were prepared for whatever the night entailed.
Darkness clouded the streets. Even the light from the lamp posts struggle to fight off the consuming, inky blackness that had fell upon the world. You stayed off the streets, off the sidewalks and took backways through your neighborhood. The last thing you wanted was for someone to see you stalking through the night.
Every new sharp sound piercing the tense air soon dulled your anxiety. You jumped less and less until it no longer fazed you. All it was just another sound in the night, another thing that goes bump in the night. You steeled your gaze to peer around a corner.
At the far end of the street, you spotted a group of people marching their way down. You cursed lowly, under your breath. These were the type of people who craved these twelve hours of mauling. They were heavily prepared to destroy anything in their path. Including you if they spotted you.
You instantly ducked back behind the fence and shuffled after. In your state of panic, your foot caught the edge of some pipes randomly lying there. A yelp escaped. You fell face first into the ground.
The old, brittle PVC pipe instantly shattered from underneath your weight. Many shards piercing your skin. You shouted in pain and rolled off to the side, wiggling around on the ground. The realization of the situation that just fell into your lap struck you hard. You scrambled back to your feet and made a dash for it as you heard a taunting voice call through the night.
“We got another one boys!” Terror hit you deep in the stomach. Goosebumps crawled across your skin. You made a mad dash for an escape. Blood dripped down from your flesh. The white shards of PVC stained with same liquid. You grunted and kept sprinting as fast as your legs could take you.
A tiny thought in the back of mind was almost wishful for that creature’s help this time. Richard could’ve been an easier time to defend against then a group of at least ten chasing you.
Their stomps of feet echoing throughout your small neighborhood. It nearly overpowered the thundering of your heart in your ears. You panted and kept up the same speed until your legs cried for rest. They forced you to find shelter behind a nearby shed.
Plants and shrubbery easily hid you from sight. The dark of the night perfect camouflage from the attackers. You forced your breathing to slow down which in turn made you lightheaded from the lack of oxygen. But a little loss on brain cells is far better than the loss of your life.
“I saw them go this way,” a booming voice called to the group. Far too close for comfort. You tensed up, on the verge of holding your breath but forced yourself not to. It was too dark in this area to fully see the figures that were surely marching their way to your death.
Despite the multitude of weapons adorning your frame, there wasn’t a chance you could stand against them. One or two? Possible. Anymore than that and your chances begin to heavily dwindle. Hiding is the best possible chance you had in this terrifying moment. You stayed crouched down even though your skin burned with each move of your chest. The shards making it hard to breath without making shocking its way through your system.
The group stalked closer to your hiding spot. In the most tense moment of your life, feeling worse than prey, you felt the sudden piercing gaze of someone. Instantly, you knew your cover had been blown.
Before you could spring to life to make another escape or go down in a blaze of flying bullets, lightning shot through the air. It struck a dark figure close to your hiding spot. The light just bright enough to reveal a dark figure perched on top of a roof.
All of the people who followed you shouted and began to fire off rounds of ammo. You covered your ears after the first few pops. You were in no condition to make another sprint for it. The group was distracted by… whatever had attacked them. Possibly, they would lose interest in you and go after this offender. Then, you could limp your way home after this horrible adventure outdoors. This is why you stayed home during the purge. Nothing good came from leaving the safety of your house.
A sharp whistle then a dull ‘thunk’ had you jumping in your hiding spot. A shrill scream died out with wet gargling. For the second time that night, you watched someone die right before you. You covered your mouth so no sounds to escape and alert anyone to your presence.
More gun fire ensued less than a moment after the first death. But, you knew it wouldn’t stop there.
Their direction changed to another rooftop, away from you. You glanced at the opening before your very eyes but knew it wasn’t the time. Not with the way your legs shook just barely holding some of your weight. Nor the way your body trembled with the aftershocks of a heavy adrenaline dump unfortunately wearing off.
Through the leaves of the small hideout spot, you observed in anticipation. The darkness of the night made it hard to truly see the gruesome scene unfold before your very eyes. Yet, the sounds… the sounds of dying people will forever haunt your nightmares till the day you died.
More arrows whistled through the air before hitting their mark head on. Each person dying with a terrifying screaming before their dying breath left them.
Whoever this was stragtic about the way they picked off the group members until who had to be their leader was left. He stood, knees knocking against one another, but he still held up his gun and waited for his time to come. Yet, the man wasn’t going to let this creature take him down.
A dull thump sounded to your right. With your hand still covering your mouth, the yelp that about escape was muffled. Light step waxed away from your trembling form. The form stalked towards its last prey. You watched as it pull a whip from its belt then gave a sharp crack of it.
The low light from both the moon and far away lamp posts light the metal. The whip straightened into a sword before your very eyes. Your jaw dropped to the floor. The figure expertly wielded the weapon with a cocky twirl then pointed it at the last person alive from the ground.
Said person about faced at the crack with his own weapon aimed directly at the dark figure. More shots heated the barrel of his pistol. The shadow used both their speed and sword to either block or dodge each attempt. Then, the man was out of bullets.
When he reached to reload his gun with a new magazine, the shadow was sudden in front of him. A dark hand engulfed his throat and lifted him easily off of the ground. Something low was grumbled into the air, too deep for you to understand. Then, the man was thrown onto the ground like a sack of potatoes. You were thankful whatever this thing was decided to spare you. At least for the moment.
The beast itself tossed its sword off to the side then thump a fist against its chest. A deep bellow vibrated the very air around you and caused goosebumps to run up your arms. Both of its arms were spread. A challenge. No matter who or what looked at this scene, the dark figure was issuing a challenge.
This was man was dead. You saw the way this creature had to squeeze into your hallway, even ducking down not to bang its head on your ceiling. He was going to die in even a more brutal way than his fellow companions.
“So, that’s how its going to be, huh?” the man grunted and readied his fists. “Wanna go hand to hand? Man to man? We can do that.” He cracked his neck and punched the air, warming up. “Let’s fight.”
With a car cry, he lunged forward with a mean hit. In a blink of an eye, his hand was caught mid-swing then tossed to the side. You gnawed on your bottom lip while keeping a palm there to contain any noises.
The two of them begin to circle one another. Each step carefully placed while they sized the other up. The man’s chances were slim by the hulking form. He rushed forward again with another fist aimed for the stomach. Yet, his hit never made contact. His fist was blocked. Instead, he felt the burning sensation of his skin being spilt.
Clothing ripped. A cry rolled off of the man’s tongue. He started rapid punches towards the shadow who only grunted and stumbled back a couple of steps. Each step, the man followed then smashed his foot into the side of his attacker’s knee. You heard a pop then a snarl pierce the tension.
Without much sight, you could feel the seething rolling off of the shadow in waves. Even it made you want to turn tail and run like the prey you are. But that would reveal you to the both of them. Whoever won in the end would be far too tired to come after you. The perfect chance to make a run for it and never look back.
As the towering figure returned to its full height, the man stumbled back and had to understand his mistake in the situation. “Shit,” he mumbled into the air. Well, he sure did.
In flurry of shadows and consuming darkness, you could barely keep up with the beast. It launched itself forward with great sped that your mind didn’t register that it had moved. Fury of swipes and punches sent the man flying backwards and slamming into a tree with a sickening crack. He cried out and writhed on the ground.
It’s shoulders heaved then it began to march towards the man’s doom. The way it stepped, careless but wanted to show off its prowess. Both man and beast knew who had won and who had lost. It was time to reap the rewards of its downed prey.
While in the midst of its fury, its sight was directly zoned in on the prey downed by its hand.
Creaking of metal croaked through the air before snapping shut. You gasped loudly which was drowned out by the roar of pain sounding from the shadow. It collapsed to its bad knee with another snarl of agony and stayed there, chest heaving. The bottom of your lip had started to bleed at this point.
The glint of metal through the darkness caught your eye. The once writhing man had collected himself enough to point the barrel of his gun directly at his attacker. His aim trembled as he struggled to straighten it to ensure the bullet met its target.
Your eyes darted between the injured shadow and the man ready to take back the night. The rifle on your back was suddenly heavy. Now, you were faced with a difficult decision that felt like either side wasn’t great. But… the shadow hadn’t attacked you and practically saved you against Richard. No. You had an obligation to save it and could only pray it wouldn’t kill you afterwards. Not once you would reveal your position to it.
Cool, night air entered your lungs with a deep inhale. You quietly pulled the rifle from your back and took aim. Despite the darkness sitting heavy on the air, you find your mark quickly and looked down the sight. The barrel trembled and swayed as you took an extra second to gather your bearings. Before you could overthink the situation, you pulled down on the trigger.
The rifle jerked back into your shoulder safely. You looked over the sight to see the unmoving figure on the ground, lifeless. Your ears rung with the shattering blast.
It tensed at the shot, head snapping over in your direction. It was your turn to be under the scrutiny gaze of the predator. Your spot had been compromised. You shakily stood up and stepped out of from behind the bushes expertly hiding in. Both of your legs tremble from your earily sprint through the night. But, you ignored it and moved a few timid steps closer to the beast.
Both of you gazed at the other, trying to read any intentions. Good or bad. The shadow was the first to break the stare off to reach down. With large hands, it pried off what caught its foot. A bear trap. Not one you’ve ever seen before.
In the dark of the night, neon green blood poured its new wounds created by the trap. This only strengthened the thought this wasn’t a person. Not with its size or speed, let alone what it was wearing and now the glowing blood seeping from it. But… if it can defend and attack ten people by itself, it was best to friend it until dawn rose. With this thing back your side, your chances of survive tenfolded.
You situated your rifle onto your back again. “I’d consider ourselves even but I’m not one to leave someone to be injured,” you spoke softly into the night air, encase there were others close by. You slowly toed close to it. Predator or prey, an injury will make either more desperate and wild. “You can come with me to my house. It’s just around the corner. We can camp there until morning.”
All you could do in the moment was pray it would take up your offer and allow you to shelter it. Not completely to be nice but mostly for your survival. Plus, having a friend to sit with during a time like this wasn’t bad to endure.
Only a few feet separated you and the beast. Even with it on its injured knee, it was a hulking form. Barrel chest, muscles adorning every single inch of its body. No wonder it took out those people with little trouble.
It picked up its strangely shaped head. You heard something rubbery tapping against metal. With the darkness, it was hard to tell the finer details about your newfound companion. Again, you didn’t feel like judging it when it could help you in this situation.
With the bear trap off of its foot, it returned to its full height and towered over you. You gulped and tilted your head back to look up at it. The shadow moved forward directly into your space. It was the moment it chose to either kill you or join you. You waited with bated breath.
Despite the night, you saw the way it dipped itself. You perked up and felt the corners of your mouth perking up in a miniature smile. “Okay.” You nodded your head in rapid movement to hyper yourself up. “Alrighty, let’s go then. Are you able to walk by yourself?” Not that you could carry its weight or even hold it up if it couldn’t. But it was nice to ask anyhow.
All you received was a short growl. Okay then, that was your answer. You kept your trap shut and began to lead the beast towards your home.
When you arrived home shortly after defending the beast, you dragged Richards cold body out of the house and barricaded the door to the best of your ability. You showed the figure to your bathroom while keeping the lights off. Anything to not draw attention to your house. A light would do that. You did your best to wash your hands and face then peered at your injured self in the mirror. The shards of PVC still lodged into your skin.
A hand landed on your shoulder and scared the shit out of you. It took a lot of skill to prevent yourself from screaming out in fright. You glanced behind you at the figure having to slightly hunch over in your bathroom. It motioned towards the plastic in your chest and arms.
“Ah, yeah… I fell when I was trying to run away,” you mumbled and rubbed at a spot behind your neck. The creature seemed to pause for a moment and left you standing there. You shrugged it off then bent over to grab the first aid kit from the cabinet underneath the sink.
It lumbered over to the bathtub’s edge and sat down. You ignored it for the most part to begin working on your own wounds. You could only hope that none of these would get infected or else a hospital visit tomorrow was going to suck terribly.
With no light to guide your hand, it was hard to use the tweezers to grasp all the pieces in your skin. It got to a point where you slammed your hand down on the counter with a huff. You hung your head and took a deep breath in.
A grunt sounded from your right. You glanced over to find the shadow looking at you, its hand held out. “What?” you snapped at it then glanced down at the tweezers in your hand. “Oh, you want these? Fine, not like I’m good at using the-ack!” When you reached to drop the tool into its awaiting palm, it snatched your wrist and tugged you towards it. You were pushed onto the closed toilet seat, arm forced towards the creature.
All of this happened so quickly that you barely had time to register it starting to pluck the PVC from your skin. You blinked a few times to comprehend what was happening before letting it continue. And in return, you helped set its kneecap back into place and wrap its ankle up. What quite a pair the two of you are.

I Almost Died for You
Pairings: Natasha x reader; Yelena x reader (platonic); Clint x reader (platonic)
Summary: Natasha has been away on a mission for a long time. What happens when you and Yelena go to see if she’s alright?
TW: reader being reckless for love (its natty so its to be expected i guess!); near death; explosive device; dangerous mission; reader almost dying; hint of smut at the end
Word count: 1.2k
a/n: tried writing a bit of hurt/ comfort :) send in any requests! I don’t write smut
You sat at your desk, brow furrowed as you tried to finish your last mission report. Fury had been breathing down your neck about getting them done. Raising your eyes from the report, you stared blankly out the window. Natasha was away on a mission and you missed her terribly. Not that she knew that, of course. You hadn’t admitted your overwhelming crush on the redhead and you weren’t going to. It was something you had to deal with and get over.
There was a knock at the door. “Come in,” you called, hopes rising. Was it Natasha; was she back yet? The door opened to reveal Yelena. You frowned, noticing she was kitted out for a mission. “Are you going somewhere?”
“Maybe.” She sat down on your bed. “If you don’t tell Fury.”
You narrowed your eyes. “Where are you going?”
“Don’t tell Fury,” she said, pointing a vaguely threatening finger at you. You swatted her arm aside and sat next to her. “Yelena…”
“I’m going to find Natasha, okay? She hasn’t come back and it’s been way longer than she should have been gone for.”
“What?” you said alarmed, fear sweeping through your body. “You think she’s in danger?” You chewed the inside of your cheek anxiously. Thoughts of Natasha lying injured somewhere crept into your mind.
“Y/n, she’s always in danger. She’s the Black Widow.” Yelena looked curiously at you then her face lit up. “You care about her, don’t you?” A sly smile appeared. “You like my sister?”
“What – no, I mean, yes I do, but because I care about her, I care about the team you know…” You were flustered and Yelena saw right through it. “Okay fine,” you relented, “but you can’t tell anyone, okay?”
“You should tell her. Anyway, I’m going to find her. Want to come?” Yelena offered, looking at you hopefully. “I know you like her so you’ll care about her safety.”
You looked over at your desk, at the mission report you were failing to finish. Then you thought of what Natasha might say if you found her and saved her from danger. You grinned at Yelena. “Let’s do it.”
***
You successfully managed to sneak onto a quinjet and were soon flying away from the compound. Once again, you ran over your array of weapons strapped to your body. You were comforted by your super strength; like Steve, you had undergone many long trials and experiments at the hands of HYDRA.
Yelena was muttering to herself in Russian, peering at the landscape below. Finding a clearing in the woods near the town Natasha had gone to, she landed smoothly. Creeping off the jet, you made your way into the town.
It was soon apparent that Natasha had been here. There were bodies lying in the streets and distant gunfire came to your ears. You made your way towards the noise and found a small group of HYDRA soldiers firing at an apparently empty building.
Suddenly an arrow whistled past you and into the midst of the group. It hit the ground and lay there, then blew up, killing all the HYDRA soldiers in one go.
“What are you two doing here?” a voice panted and Clint ran up beside you. “It’s dangerous, you shouldn’t have come.”
“We wanted to help Natasha,” you retorted, pulling a gun from your hip and firing at more soldiers that had appeared. “We didn’t know you’d be here too. Where is she?”
“Look up.” You glanced up to see Natasha drop from a balcony and join you. Her bodysuit was cut in many places and there was blood on her cheek. She narrowed her eyes at you. “You shouldn’t have come,” she said harshly. “We don’t need you here. It’s better that you wait in the quinjet.”
Her cold reply surprised and hurt you and you turned away, firing again at the oncoming soldiers. The four of you made short work of the rest of the town, quickly clearing it of remaining soldiers. Yelena mentioned where she’d hidden the quinjet and you made your way towards it.
You were breathing a sigh of relief, knowing you were almost safe then there was a click beneath your foot. You had trodden on a hidden explosive device. It went off, sending you flying backwards.
“Y/n!” Natasha screamed, worry and fear in her voice. You felt faint and dizzy and when you looked down, your leg was covered in blood. The others ran over to you and Clint began wrapping a tourniquet around your leg. Natasha was gripping your hand so hard her knuckles had turned white.
“We’ve got to get back to the med bay, now!” Clint yelled.
“Natasha,” you whispered. Then your head felt limp and suddenly everything went black.
***
When you next opened your eyes, you recognised the hospital wing of the compound. Natasha was sitting in a chair in the corner, in the same bodysuit and with blood still on her cheek. She seemed to be asleep, her head resting on the back of the chair, her eyes shut.
You watched her for a moment, studying her face. She was so beautiful, you thought. Her chest rose and fell gently as she breathed and you bit your lip watching her look so peaceful. You remembered her cry when the device had gone off, the look on her face made your heart clench in pain. She had looked so frightened and you didn’t want to ever see her face like that again.
Tentatively moving in your bed, you groaned when pain shot through your leg and up the rest of your body. Your leg was covered in bandages and was propped up on a pile of pillows. Natasha’s eyes flew open and she leapt towards your bedside. “Y/n?” You could see fear in her eyes. Her hands were shaking.
“Natty,” you murmured. “Have I still got my leg?”
Her cheeks reddened at the nickname. She sat down on the edge of your bed. “You’ve lost a lot of blood but they were able to save your leg.” Tears formed in her eyes. You slowly reached a hand out, cupping her cheek in your hand. “Hey,” you murmured. “I’m okay, Natty. I’ve still got my leg. Why are you crying?”
“Because you got injured saving us.” You turned your head to see Clint in the doorway. He leant against the doorframe, smirking at Natasha. “She cares about you.”
You swallowed and stared at Natasha, who was now glaring at Clint. He raised his hands, sent you a smile and left. You looked back at Natasha, staring at her until she finally met your gaze. “Natty…?”
“I like you,” she choked out. “And you were there and I – then you got injured and I thought I’d lost you.” She wiped furiously at her tears.
“I’m okay, Nat,” you whispered. “They saved my leg. I’ll be okay.” You smiled softly at her. “So… you like me?” you said nervously.
Natasha bit her lip and nodded. You struggled to sit up on your own; Natasha soon had you sitting up against a bank of pillows. You gently pulled her towards you so that your faces were almost touching. “Can I kiss you?” you whispered, swallowing nervously. She smiled and closed the distance. You melted as your lips met hers and you sighed into the kiss. Her tongue soon found its way into your mouth. Feeling her smile against you, you pulled back, leaning your forehead against hers. “I’m glad I followed you out there,” you whispered, making her blush.
“Don’t ever do that again though. I don’t think I can almost lose you again.” She sounded stern but the tremble in her voice gave away her fear.
“I promise I’ll be safe,” you said.

I was wondering, in Proper Etiquette (my favourite of your writings) Reader is wearing dresses and corsets all the time (which is Wonderful and corsets are Not Evil Actually they're literally a bra that supports the weight of heavy layers of skirts BUT I DIGRESS) but how would Rygel react to his wife, feeling a little cold as fall comes along, asks to have a sweater like he's wearing and some warm pants or a wool skirt and petticoat to wear with the sweater, rather than her usual fine clothes that clearly aren't built for the weather in her new home
You’re so real for the corset thing, I will defend corsets until the day I die. Also sorry this took me forever
Rygel ran hot. You were well aware of that fact by now. Every time you pressed up against him he radiated heat, more than any person you’d ever been near, although to be fair you didn’t have much of a frame of reference.
What had taken a bit longer was realizing they all did.
When you’d first arrived it had been summer, a little colder than the summers you were accustomed to, but nothing too severe.
But then winter had come, and with it, something unfamiliar to you. With it came the snow.
It was a perfect coincidence for them because while they seemed largely comfortable in the cold of your new home, you were not. You were instead accustomed to a little rain in the winter, maybe some cold winds, but nothing an extra layer or two couldn’t combat.
This was far from that. At first, the snow had been delightful. You’d only ever heard stories and caught glimpses of it on the peaks of faraway mountains, but here it was all around you.
As the novelty faded, it became a bit more of a problem.
You tried what you’d always done, adding layers and bundling up, but you just didn’t have enough. Nothing you had was built for this kind of cold and it wasn’t like you could borrow clothes from someone, you’d drown in the sheer amount of fabric.
So instead you stood, bundled under layers that were helpless against the biting cold. You’d barely been outside for a few minutes before you’d rushed back into the warmth of your room but the cold had settled in your bones and couldn’t be snuffed out so easily.
Your jaw was clenched to stop your teeth from chattering, your whole body wound tight, trying to preserve what little heat you had.
“I’m not built for this,” you said with a huff as you collapsed backward onto your bed, wrapping yourself in blankets.
Rygel huffed out a laugh from his desk, his attention still focused on whatever he was reading. “Not built for what?”
“Winter. Not here at least. I think I might go into hibernation.”
He froze, eyes widening before he turned to you. “Oh my god, you’re cold. Of course you are, I should’ve prepared for this.”
You cut him off. “No, I’m fine, really. I’ve been keeping inside as much as I can, the layers have been helping, it’s okay. It’s not your fault.”
He did not seem convinced. “We don’t have any clothes that’ll fit you. Hell, we don’t have warm enough clothes anyway. Shit. You should’ve told me.” His words were dripping with concern as the full implications of his mistake hit him.
“Rygel,” you said, trying to cut through the worry and reassure him. “I’m fine, really, it’s not a big deal. I can stay inside for a season, god knows there’s more than enough fires and blankets in this place to keep me warm.”
“I should have realized. I forget how fragile your kind are, I should have seen this coming, gotten you some real clothes. As much as I love those dresses, we have to get you in some furs. ”
“We are not fragile, you are just all far too sturdy. And besides, I like my dresses.”
“Mmhmm,” he hummed dismissively with a smile. “Sure we are. I really should have been more careful with you though. Your safety is more important than anything. I will keep you warm if it’s the last thing I do, even if we do have to cover up those pretty little dresses. Now, how will I ever manage to keep you warm until we can get you some better-suited clothes?”
You climbed onto his lap, ducking underneath his shirt, and pressed up close to him, absorbing his heat as you felt a chuckle run through his chest. “Maybe I shouldn’t get you warm clothes,” he said as a steady arm wrapped around you. “I think I prefer this.”
You hummed in agreement. “Plus it’s very dignified.”
His hand scooped under you, lifting you while keeping you close to him. “Very.”
You happily nuzzled further into his chest and he returned to his work, his arm still firmly wrapped around you. You were sure he’d find something for you, get you warmer clothes and make sure you were safe and warm and happy. His concern more than convinced you of that.
And when all else failed, at least your husband ran hot.
