Spider-Man Noir: The Timeline Part 1 (2009, issues #1-4)
Tumblr media
Okay so Noir is a wild ride considering how Quickly everything happens, so I took a dig at tracking the time passed through each plot point. Obviously Heavy spoilers if you haven't read the Spider-Man Noir (2009) run. Go read that now if you want to keep digging here. If not that's fine, this is like. For me and 4 other noir heads in my notes.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Spider-Man Noir begins with a flashforward with Noir in a particularly incriminating scene with "JJ" in January 1933.
However Noir's story starts three weeks earlier in December 1932.
Now it's unclear in the shift to Urich's perspective when he says "three weeks ago", whether he meat three weeks prior to his murder or three weeks prior to where the flashforward took place. I'm operating off the belief that it's the former.
So, our notes start:
All within the same night Ben Urich meets Aunt May (who he has never seen in person, but is aware of her reputation) and Peter, takes Peter to the Black Cat speakeasy, and sets Peter up with a job at the Bugle
Within the first week of working under Urich, Peter opens up to Urich about what happened to his Uncle
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Two weeks later, Urich and Peter's photo of the fire makes it to the late edition of the Daily Bugle. Btw the late edition of a paper is published in the evening, and can cover breaking news that wasn't covered in the morning edition
Within this same night Peter discovers Urich's drug addiction, takes a call meant for Urich's "Spider" alias, witnesses Goblin's goons move around boxes of artifacts meant for the Metropolitan Museum, and gets bitten by one of the spiders from the broken statue
The next morning Urich has a meeting with the Goblin, Peter attacks the Goblin, and retreats upon the discovery of Urich's involvement
That night Urich plans to spill all his collected black mail to the Bugle, but is killed by the JJ imposter, in which Felicia secretly witnesses. This same night Peter sews together his suit, and is the one to find Ben's body
Tumblr media
Interrupting the flow here to poke at this. This bit of inner monologue gives us an estimate to when Uncle Ben was murdered. Six months ago from an unspecified time in January is about the middle of summer, but only if Peter is being straightforward about how much time it would take to save Uncle Ben.
Other tid bits about Uncle Ben:
Served as a pilot in the first WWI, but was ashamed of his part and refused to take out his uniform (in which Peter will transform into his suit)
A year ago, Uncle Ben helped organize demonstrations that shut down 3 of Adolfus Crane's (an industrialist we see at the Black Cat) sweat shops
Anyway back to our regularly scheduled bullet points.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Peter was plucked off the streets into the Black Cat, "The day after Urich was rubbed out." As per Urich's wishes, Felicia entrusts Peter with all the black mail files he had complied of the Goblin's inner workings.
Two days after Urich died they threw his funeral.
For an unspecified amount of time Peter began working on crumbling the Goblin's influence in NY. Long enough for news articles to be made about "The Spider-Man", and long enough for the Goblin to be given a week's deadline to get rid of him. I would estimate between one to two weeks in consideration of the later time skip
Tumblr media
Interrupting the flow again to poke at this specific file here. It's labeled "Freak Show Coney Island 1928". It's unclear whether this is the date Urich complied these documents, or the date in which the freak show took place. If it was the latter, that would mean the Goblin's entourage has only been serving him for about five years. Since there's no indication of how long Goblin has been terrorizing this city, I can't confirm either case.
Something that can also be considered about the length of Goblin's hold on the city is that he's been there long enough for Felicia to leave Ben for, and for Felicia to eventually leave the Goblin himself.
Anyway back to our regularly scheduled bullet points.
Tumblr media
The night that Peter goes to confront JJ after the publishing of the first paper smearing Spider-Man, he finds the fake JJ already shot (later revealed to have been shot by Felicia, who had already fled the scene)
Just hours after JJ's death, Peter breaks into the city's morgue to discover the JJ who died was actually the Chameleon. Within these hours Felicia is also captured and brought to the Goblin's "torture house" where the real JJ has been kept
And again within these few hours, Peter saves Aunt May from the Vulture by killing him with Uncle Ben's gun, rushes over to the "torture house", and has his final scrap with Goblin and his men
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now to finally consider this two month time skip. We're given some context clues into what time this could be. It's no longer winter, so it has to be in Spring.
And then we're given real political events to draw on. President Franklin D. Roosevelt has been inaugurated into office at this point, so it has to be past March 4, 1933. Then we have the mention of "The Enabling Act" in the Daily Bugle's newspaper, which was passed on March 23, 1933.
So from all this little background detail we can deduct that Noir took place from late December 1932 through January 1933, with the time skip taking place in the late March of 1933.
Anyway yeah. That all happened. That fast. I will! Do a separate post on EWAOF (which takes place in September 1933, only 6 months later!!!), and the other runs beyond that even if I have personal beef with them. Later skaters

Long time, no post (Update on Gleeboot)
Hey everyone,
I know it's been months since I've last been active on this Tumblr and there's so much that has been going on in my personal life that has kept me from doing the things I love, but I promise I am back to being hard at work to make my story Gleeboot into something great. It took me awhile to get the motivation to write Gleeboot again but thanks to a friend of mine being willing to lend her character to the story, the writing has been flowing ever since. With that I want to do an introduction post to our latest character joining the Gleeboot which will be coming your way very shortly. I hope you guys are still as excited as I am for this project and as a thank you for your patience, I want to post a little sneak peak into what I've been working on for the past year so enjoy the first page of Gleeboot!
Flashback to the year 2009 where a teenaged Will Schuester is nervously looking out from behind the curtain at the massive crowd that is in Branson, Missouri chanting loudly and clapping along to the music that is playing in the background as Will takes a deep breath trying to shake off the nerves of the upcoming Nationals competition that his show choir ‘The Singsations’ are about to perform in front of thousands of people.
His show choir director, a middle aged kind hearted woman, places her hand on his shoulder “Come on William, why don’t you join the others,” the director said softly. “Yes Miss Adler,” Will said softly as he got into the show circle with the other members of the Singsations. “Gather round children, gather round,” Miss Adler called out as the remaining students not in the show circle quickly joined it. “I am so incredibly proud of every single one of you and how far you’ve come this year. For some of you, it’s your senior year and this is the last time you will be a part of this group, so I want you all to finish the year as strong as you started it,” Miss Adler said seriously as Will seemed to be taking everything she said to heart.
“I want you to take these parting words with you as you take the stage, Glee is about opening yourself up to joy, and the joy you have brought me and so many others will be something I know you will be able to look back on proudly and talk about. Now let’s go out there and give the performance of our lives, yes?” Miss Adler said as she placed her hand into the show circle which the other members followed suit as they all yelled out ‘Aaaaaaaamazing!”, pulling their hands out and getting into position to perform.
“Ladies and gentlemen, please give a warm welcome to our next act, all the way from Lima, Ohio it’s The Singsations!” the announcer said as the crowd roared with applause as The Singsations took the stage beginning to perform the Journey hit from the 80’s, any fan of Glee would know, ‘Don’t Stop Believin’.’
Will sang the background passionately smiling brightly as two of his other clubmates had sung the lead, a tall sandy haired boy with a striking smile and a petite blonde girl with a powerful voice that rivaled any diva on Broadway. Will couldn’t help but be enamored with the blonde who seemed to sing effortlessly with every note she hit. Miss Adler couldn’t help but beam with pride watching the group proudly as they sang the most beautiful version of ‘Don’t Stop Believin’ which made the crowd roar with applause once again as Will stood onstage catching his breath, knowing at that very moment he had truly been a part of something special.
Flashforward to current times, the year 2025 to be exact as a now adult Will Schuester seemed to be lost in a daydream of his high school glory days as his very annoyed wife, Terri seemed to be trying to get his attention. “Will! Did you even hear a word I said?” his wife snapped stubbornly. “What?” Will said dazedly, seeming to snap out of the daydream he was in. “Honestly, sometimes I wonder why I even bother speaking,” Terri scoffed, annoyed, flipping her perfectly polished honey blonde hair over her shoulder as she put on her apron for ‘Sheets-N-Things’.
“I’m sorry honey…I was just thinking about the good old days, you know back in high school when we didn’t have a care in the world and had fallen in love,” Will smiled softly cupping his wife’s face as she scowled. “High school is over. For both of us,” Terri snapped, annoyed, pulling away from Will “I know you still work in that God-forsaken place when you could be doing so much more.” “Terri, weve been over this. I don’t want to be an accountant,” Will exhaled loudly, knowing exactly where this conversation was going since many of their conversations seemed to lead up to that same fight.

Paradise: A Flawed but Fascinating Series
Remember back in the mid-to-late 2000s and early 2010s, when there was a wave of drama series that blended science fiction into their narratives? Shows like Revolution (2012–2014), Terra Nova (2011–2012), and FlashForward (2009–2010) all seemed to be chasing the magic of Lost (2004–2010). For a while, that trend seemed to fade away, until I came across Hulu’s Paradise. What begins as a political…

In 5x21 Lucifer says "I told you this would always happen in Detroit" but he said that originally in 5x04 in Zachariah's flashforward to 2014. So wtf how does Lucifer in 2010 know what Lucifer in 2014 said to him?? The literal only way that makes sense is if Zachariah's 2014!Lucifer was actually 2009!Lucifer working with Zachariah.

making my way through Robert J. Sawyer's bibliography. it's something i've wanted to do ever since i read Flashforward in 2009 (after that cancelled ABC show, at the memory of which Funeral by Band of Horses immediately starts playing in my head), followed by Calculating God (still my favorite and probably objectively his best work). later i read more recent books, Quantum Night and The Oppenheimer Alternative, and circled back, but Mindscan was a bit of a disappointment
this time, i have read all of the WWW trilogy in as many days and started Triggers last night to finish it tonight - most of his books are real page turners
however, there's a reason only a couple of them are rated just above 4 stars on goodreads. his books are not a literary experience - i want to say they are a scientific experience, but i'm not a scientist and know fuck all about the stuff he covers in his writing. maybe a philosophical one? Sawyer is an ideas, concepts man. he is infinitely fascinated by the mind, the consciousness, the brain and how it works, evolution, biology, etc. a more practical reader will perhaps get frustrated at some point, a reader looking to savor prose will definitely get frustrated, but i, a dumbass infinitely fascinated by the idea of ideas, will devour every word - just like i will wrap myself in a beautifully written book with a meandering plot
so, Sawyer works for me. still, i keep thinking how great these books could be if all those cool ideas came with a good writing style and character work

The Drinky Crow Show #9: “Bar” | January 12, 2009 - 12:15AM | S01E08
This one is all about the dang bar that’s in (probably) every episode. It’s doing bad, but guess what? There is a college nearby. So Gabby and Drinky go over there to drum up business and wind up spending 4 years going through college. Funny! Could be an entire episode! BUT GUESS WHAT: It is not. They go back to the bar, and the bar gets all sorts of collegiate. Meanwhile, Drinky refers to his years-long quest to find is true love, the mermaid from the pilot. When he finds out the bar has captured her and is using her for decoration in front of the ladies room, Drinky becomes despondent and blows his brains out. This leads to a shocking discovery: Drinky is not Drinky at all, but a freaking robot Drinky Crow.
CROW ROBOT! IT’S YOUR BIRTHDAY. Hey, I’m referencing Sealab over here. Hey, wait, it actually was Mystery Science Theater’s Crow T. Robot’s birthday last week. The birthday of a wisecracking puppet from television. What a wonderful thing for a middle-aged man to immediately think of during his cartoon write-up. Anyway:
New paragraph. Anyway: Drinky Crow finds out the real Drinky (and Gabby) are at sea. The real Drinky is fighting French pirates and just going nuts. He’s fighting to find his lady love, the aforementioned and aforeseen, briefly, mermaid. Robot Chicken and Robot Gabby tell real Drinky and Gabby where the mermaid is; back at the bar. When they all go there, they discover the mermaid is trying to scam a life insurance policy out of one of the rich college kids, and is only mad at Drinky for intruding before he can sign away his life. Episode ends with a flashforward to the future: America is owned by Saudi Arabia, and everyone is old. I forget if something else funny happens.
I’m mostly pleased to be watching this show again. This one meanders, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes I complain that an episode of a show lacks focus, and sometimes it’s just a bullshit thing I say to fill space or sound smart. If I were to say that, which I haven’t technically DIRECTLY said yet here, it would probably fall into the category of “bullshit thing”. I just think that if you find yourself comforted for figuring out what an episode of this show is going to be (this one starts off with a parody of sitcoms, leading at least part of my brain to think “this episode is going to be an episode-length takedown of sitcom tropes”, for example) you will be disappointed. Please do not let this part of your brain take over while watching the Drinky Crow Show. Anyway: I liked this one okay.
