I was bored, so I decided to look up the main fonts used in Gravity Falls Lost Legends:

House of Terror by House Industries, used for all the titles:

Monologous by Comicraft, used for most of the dialogue.

LasVegasOT-Jackpot by PYRS Fontlab Ltd, used for a few onomatopoeias.

CC Monster Mash was designed by John Roshell, published by Comicraft, and used for other onomatopoeias.

Burbank Big Condensed, designed by Tal Leming, published by House Industries, and used for most onomatopoeia.

I am behind bc I just finished the font, but I just finished the font! I was going to keep the name Quercus (oak tree genus name), but unfortunately, that's already a font name. I think I will go with "garryana" which is the species name of the Garry Oak tree, the one that Oak Bay Victoria is named after. It also makes sense because it's a more refined version, and the name is more specific. Also, it is kind of silly because it sounds like Garry and I like that. heheheh. And I think it has a better story.

If I win the lottery fontlab might be an immediate purchase omg. Idk how much I would use it. I think I would lose mind.

There were two winners to the neography poll, this is a display case of the older system used for instruction in the university. The small dots on each glyph reflect the draft nature of this font.

The script is inspired by the Futhark and the historic script is is angular with weighted lines to reflect the beginning of use of velum and quills rather than being solely carved.

I work in Birdfont as a font editor and Linearity Curve as a vector editor because I am poor and can't afford FontLab. This means I couldn't work out how to cleanly implement a CC(V/N)CC syllable structure with coda and nucleus nasals.

I’ve used Birdfont for years. The tutorial are pretty grim but it’s a fairly self explanatory program that’s all GUI and free.

Personally I find Birdfont lack of a console interface really restrictive when I want to make fonts that aren’t alphabets. I’ve tried big FontLab and Glyphs as paid programs.

FontLab is amazing but it’s £500 which my budget doesn’t stretch to and as far as I can tell their cheaper option TypeTool doesn’t have the features I want - specifically creating unique ligatures.

Glyphs doesn’t do as much but I found it fairly easy to engage with but it £300 and again the cheaper option doesn’t seem to do what I need.

My eternal wish is for FontForge to start working on MacOS again.

@deranged-conlanger I can recommend two sources:

Calligraphr is somewhat wonky and I wouldn't recommend it outright, but it is fairly okay. Make sure to make photos high-res, or, just copy the image of the blank and paste it in a drawing program.

FontStruct is easier but at the same time, limited, for it is a pixel-by-pixel font maker. It has its own charm, but isn't perfect either.

I've also heard of BirdFont but it's rocket physics for me currently. It's a separate program to download and use rather than a site.

what did you use to make your own font with your language's letters and accents? the only website i knew would have worked hasn't been working for a while anymore for me and i can't find a good free alternative🥀

If you talk about the V1 font, i actually used Pre-made fonts from a sketchy vietnamese website that i forgot the name, Here's the note i made with the font's name and some adjustment (NOTE: Adjustment is kinda random when im working but you can follow the below thing)
