This is a fanart for a friend's Free Willy fanfic called "Blackfish Saga - Twin Tides". The kids are Taylor and Tyler, the orcas are Paikea and Ikkaika. I tried to keep the cartoon look on the orcas, just with a better/more accurate anatomy.

Pretty. Thats how you would describe Willy Wonka, the eccentric chocolate maker. Silly thought about public domain characters

Do you think that, when Mickey Mouse became public domain, he was surprised by some of the characters that were already free?

Snow White, Cinderella, Pinocchio, Alice, Mowgli, the Little Mermaid, Mulan, Beauty, Tarzan and Brier Rose are all already there. Hell, Rapunzel is even there and Tangled only came out just over a decade ago.

Mickey is thrilled. They escaped! Sure, they look and sound a little different but Disney doesn’t control them. He’s a little confused about why Robin Hood isn’t a fox but mostly he’s happy.

Then Mickey learns that they were always public domain and he gets pissed at Disney all over again. Disney was always happy to use public domain but they wanted to stop anything they’d ever made becoming public domain.

Hey, since I've been hyperfixated on and off on Willy Wonka for years now, and maybe there's a bigger crowd now for this character, here are some headcanons (and maybe some kinda canon stuff) I wrote down a while back !!! (I'm very normal about him, I swear. Also I like to add bits of myself to my fave characters so if it's cringe then so be it.)

I'm so sad to see this movie being criticized for being more true to the source material!

Willy Wonka isn't supposed to be a dark and gritty character. Sassy, yes, cynical, definitely in his old age, a little sadistic, perhaps, but it's mostly the Oompa Loompas' songs and bad behavior (of children and adults alike) that bring the more disturbing elements to the story. 😭 Not him!

Live Free or Die Hard (2007)

Live Free or Die Hard a.k.a. Die Hard 4.0 is a fair Bruce Willis action movie. It doesn’t feel like a Die Hard film - like at all - but the stunts and action setpieces are well done and exciting. So why can’t I muster much excitement for it?

NYPD detective John McClane (Bruce Willis) is bringing Matthew Farrell (Justin Long) to the FBI - he’s suspected of contributing to a nationwide computer outage. Actually, the outage is just the beginning of an elaborate cyber attack designed to disable the United State’s infrastructure. Having unknowingly written the algorithm that Thomas Gabriel (Timothy Olyphant) is employing, Farrell is now a target for assassination.

I’m at odds when it comes to Live Free or Die Hard. There are plenty of exciting scenes. While a part of your brain might die a little at the sight of McClane “throwing” a car at a helicopter, the pyrotechnics are impressive. Seeing him go toe-to-toe with Maggie Q is exciting, as are the gunfights and scenes of improvised weaponry. The cyber attack certainly offers meaningful stakes, as Thomas Gabriel has killed several people to orchestrate his plan and can use anything from redirected traffic to gas lines as weapons. You want him taken down if only so you can see that smug look on his face wiped away.

Unfortunately, the premise raises so many questions. When you find out why Gabriel is doing what he’s doing, you can’t help wondering if there wasn’t an easier way to go about it, particularly since he’s got the money necessary to set up a mobile hacker base, employ international assassins, put together convincing disguises, sneak explosives into key buildings, cover his tracks and more. You might want him stopped but he never achieves the level of menace previous Die Hard adversaries have. Some of this is due to the film’s constantly changing attitude towards hacking. Sometimes, it’s magic. I can buy Gabriel and his cronies cracking the government firewalls and security measures - they’ve been building towards this plan for months - but they can do basically anything with just a few keystrokes, including hacking into well-know hacker systems - which you would assume would be immune to that kind of thing. This tells us hackers are something to be feared… unless they aren’t. Anyone outside of Gabriel’s circle is a weiner who plays with dolls/action figures, “probably doesn’t go on a lot of dates”, and/or lives in their mother’s basement. It isn’t McClane’s meathead attitude misinterpreting what’s going on either. I mean, he does that plenty, showing an inability to wrap his mind around even basic computer-related concepts but Matt Farrell constantly proves himself the opposite of McClane: always frightened, whiny and nervous. He does manage to grow on you over time, however. McClane? I’m not sure. He gets things done because he’s an invincible action hero but there are very few times where he does any sort of outwitting. Mostly, he gets lucky.

Though I doubt the flaws I spotted while viewing Live Free or Die Hard would ever disappear, I suspect they would feel less important on a different day. The plot is unbelievable but certain elements feel true and as an action power fantasy, it's certainly impressive. Bruce Willis is still at the point in his career where he cares and brings his A-game. He and Justin Long make a pretty good double-act by the time the movie is over. I think I've talked myself into giving it a soft recommendation as a movie that will inevitably play on TV, probably around the holidays as part of a Die Hard marathon. At that point, you’re watching it “for free” from the comfort of your couch. That price feels right. (January 2, 2022)

the orca from free willy died because humans pressured his zoo into releasing him out of pity, but due to never seeing other orcas in his life (captivity) he couldn't get along well with wild orcas and relied too much on humans for food. then he died of pneumonia near norway one year after being released and it's believed his struggle to adapt was the main reason behind his untimely death.

this resonated deeply with me as autistic for some reason. an orca who prefers the company of humans (another animal) to his own kind, who he couldn't feel as one with. and now I'm sad. (and angry at humans for being so emotional without measuring consequences and we'll end the world for this)

In the random order that I thought of them, except for the first one because that's my absolute favorite movie.

Silverado (1986) Favorite movie when I was a kid, a classic in my family, stellar cast, fun shoot-outs, hot people in leather pants on horses. Amazing score that lingers in my head and cheers me up.

King Arthur (2004) Great score, great cast, lots of pretty greenery, SARMATHIANS OF MY HEART, great fight sequences, hot people being bloodied on horses

PS, I LOVE YOU (2007) For when I need to cry but can't. (I once watched this three times in a row because I really needed to get it out of my system)

The Mummy (1999) I like to reawaken my bisexuality occasionally. It's fun, it's pretty, it's romantic, it's FUN, and there would have been hot people on horses if they hadn't been on Beni's side of the river.

Transformers (2007) Mostly it's the score, but also the cars transforming into robots and fighting other robots is just fucking cool. Best at getting me out of the couch when I'm struggling with my mental health.

Fast Five (2011) In a way all the Fast and Furious movies are comforting. There is something incredibly relaxing about hot people in hotter cars and lots of explosions. Fast Five is my favorite though because FUN HEIST and Han and Gisele <3 <3

White Fang (1991) Big Nostalgia factor. Young Ethan Hawke and a wolfdog struggle to survive in Alaska. The Gold Rush! THE NATURE. The drama and evil bad guys. The love between the wolf and the boy... Love the book as well, but the movie, argh, my heart.

9. and 10. Should probably go together to the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Two Towers is probably my favorite of the three, but Fellowship the most comforting, but then Return of the King has 'DEATH DEATH DEATH' but also all of the healing and 'you bow for no one' and honestly, I never just watch one. I'll watch Two Towers first, cry when Haldir dies (my favorite moment of the trilogy is when the elves arrive, the whole battle of helms deep runs me through the whole scala of human emotion which is comforting in how cathartic that is), then start the whole trilogy. Perfect blanket and hot chocolate in the couch weekend comfort.
