It took me, ugh, MONTHS (2), to get to cleaning the two shrimp tanks I have... I had IRL issues going on that would have made it extremely difficult to do a water change especially while injured, and I just had to keep putting it off. It's just shrimp, so it wasn't like, the worst situation, especially since I have established plants and the tanks are a couple years old. There was just a lot of algae build-up on the glass, and, well... Let me just say it was not contributing to my mental health and well-being while the tanks were in that state.

I tested the water before I started cleaning and the parameters were fine (like, I could have left the tanks even longer if I would be okay with selling my soul to the Algae Collective), and the plants and shrimp look fine, too (I mean, I've obviously been keeping an eye on the tanks bc I sit right next to them). Actually, I'd wager to say that the plants are looking really great (the lilies haven't died off [yet? This is the longest period of time I've seen them stay... foliage... fol... foliated? Idk.] and the cryptocoryne in the 10gal is fucking huge and needs to be rearranged, just not right now). That fucking algae was a motherfucker to get off the 10gal (it's a plastic tank and I think that makes the algae grip harder than the glass 5gal).

[Also, fyi, depending on the tank's needs and stability, recommended water changes are a small one every week or every other week. My parameters don't seem to do anything dramatic, so I usually aim for a 20-30% water change every third week (just depends on how much vacuuming needs to be done and how cooperative the shrimp are with moving aside). So 2 months is still a lot. I still did the normal 30% ish amount, since doing more will risk the shrimp's well-being if there's a sudden change in everything, and my water parameters indicated a change was unnecessary - but I don't test for more than the minimum freshwater tests, so there could be a buildup of some mineral I'm not testing for, which is why the change IS actually necessary regardless of what my test kit says - because these tanks were evaporating a lot in summer, it condenses the minerals added with each water addition, even tho I usually top up with R.O. water.]

My back is fucking killing me lol. It has been killing me since spring when it 'went out' for the first time, and I'm not getting any relief, it sucks. But this had to be done.

The 5gal is looking pretty cloudy still, since the filter was super gunked up and I accidentally spilled gunk back in, so I may need to retest the 5gal parameters tomorrow just to make sure I don't have to do another water change, but it'll probably be fine, right? Shrimp love mulm and detritus. I did give both tanks a big ole algae tab for their trouble, tho. (I need a fuckening dish for the big tank. I really wanna clean off that white quartz rock again, but being white means it's an algae magnet, and it's just gonna go green again after a month or two.)

Wish I could take better pictures rn, but I am. Like. Dying. My recommendation: never live in an A-frame style room if you have the option. The wall above my tanks is slanted, and NOT fun for my back to bend underneath the wall for maintenance. (My only flat wall in the room is for my TV/PC.) Also, treat your back nicely, in general. I unfortunately have not had the option to treat my back nicely since spring (fall now), because 'when it rains it pours,' and heavy shit that needs to be moved will not move itself. Once I get a few more things in my room in order, I will hopefully be done with the IRL chaos, bc I have Halloween socks to knit, and I'm not putting that off for another year. (I'm still mad that I couldn't make the ones I planned last year. And I found more Halloween yarn I forgot I bought, so I'm gonna try to make multiple socks.) And I just really need to fucking chill and knit and stop having panic attacks and meltdowns.

Random notes for games that don't exist. I do this constantly, thinking that someday I'll come back around and have a flash of brilliance and re-incorporate these silly mechanics, but probably won't.

I do like the idea of a game that puts you in the shoes of a tour guide, and you have only marginal control over all the idiots on the tour. That sounds like a funny vibe. The other two are much more bare-bones, and I'm not even sure the card-game one could even work...

Oh, and I finished off book 29 over the weekend, so I need to move these scans for the incoming sketchbook.

Recent Intervallo was amazing.

Also it made one thing clear.

Though I before interpreted Heathcliff and Ishmael's current standing as "Oh she's a bit rough on him, but they're good friends deep down." but now? I kind of doubt that.

To be honest Canto 6 feels like a regression point for a lot of characters. Sure, character growth did happen, but then you also have the messy decision that happened at the end which to be honest doesn't make too much sense even now.

It's def better than before but at the same time it's noticeable as hell. One could say it was just as bad as it was before.

Heathcliff tends to have an issue where he has trouble properly belonging. Cathy was the only one he felt secure being with, and even still, that relationship really was quite unstable.

Now he's been making more of an effort to get out there, but there's no denying he can be quite the divisive figure in social circumstances.

Some sinners have always gotten along with him, some have eased up on him, while it feels that some have sort of regressed.

It's interesting how it is with Ishmael. Because honestly? It feels like Ishmael's sort of regressing. Like did you see that look in her eyes when Ricardo showed up and she talked about "Payback" ? Something's up with her. That and it feels like her temper has gotten shorter. I feel like this is due to her being snubbed multiple times lately, if I remember correctly (correct me if I am wrong), and her planning/certainty based approach not being vindicated. Faust has already sort of let herself understand how linear yet freefloating her path is, Don Quixote knows what it takes to be a heroic fixer, in that things may not always go to plan, but something tells me Ishmael's been a bit more difficult in that regard. If someone's got a better read on her though, don't hesitate to speak up.

Anyways, where was I...

Guess I just talk about the sinners in general.

Outis is interesting as hell.

She puts on a rather thin facade that one. Though she lays it on thick enough to fool a lot of people around her, it's rather telling how she feels.

I feel like that shady look in her eyes represents both a sort of facetiousness and dedication to whatever act she's pulling off.

I feel like her seeing Qingtao be the way he is made her realize a lot of things.

One thing that sticks to me is Qingtao's line where he said something about how "Hong Lu is one to be locked up and cherished so no harm can come to him."

and I could be misreading this

But I feel like that just spells out her true feelings towards Dante.

In that Dante is a lifeline for her, and as long as Dante is alive, she too will be alive, so she can keep trudging forward to whatever end goal she has in mind.

Also, looking forward to what Hong Lu has to offer with his character. There's an emotional maelstrom brewing within that one.

Anyways, yeah, messy post.

It’s Saturday night and freefloating anxiety is welling up, what do we do, gang?

NO! …well yes, but only as a wee side quest. We do THINGMAKE! Tonight’s thingmakery is twofold. First, yarn prep!

I got these two skeins of yarn on massive, massive sale not too long ago - Jaggerspun Green Line, 100% organic wool in Caramel and Twig. Normally $18/hank and I only paid $15 for both. WIN! (Am I bragging? I’m from New England. Of course I’m bragging.)

I’m getting increasingly confident in my knitting, and I think I’m going to try some kind of a thing with these on needles rather than my usual hooking. Which means that these need to become center pull balls. And also I need a pattern. Suggestions welcomed!

The other project is another skulls shawl in this silver wool yarn. It’s weighty yarn, meant to be a rug yarn, but it is surprisingly touchable. I think if, when I get it done, I hit it with some serious fabric softener and beat the crap out of it, it’ll actually be pretty nice.

If nothing else, I always love making this pattern. Nothing ventured, nothing gained!

SO this week I have been doing MANY THINGS including many fannish things. Including things in several fandoms. Me earlier this year: I truly cannot handle having more than one thing on the go. Me now: Yes, maybe I do have six active writing projects in three different fandoms as well as four podfics on the go. WHAT OF IT!?

I've finished recording all of my podfics, and I'm editing them now and... well, it's hard. One is edited, one is 1/8th edited, and the other two are freefloating audio. But, uh, yeah, here's some audio. Because. I... well, you'll get it.

Yes, I titled this file TENDER because I just, it's... yeah. I'm not totally sure whether I'm allowed to say who/what I'm podficcing... (@caught-on-tape-fest can you advise?) But, anyway, probably someone will get it based on that snippet.

He bumps into someone as he turns, attempts to keep anyone from falling with one hand in the steadying region of what should be a shoulder but turns out to be a truly exceptional handful of cleavage.  "Shit, I'm so sorry," he says, taking a half-step back and looking at the woman he just groped.  There's a lovely flush on her olive cheeks, and her hair is a cloud of beautiful, wild curls.  Marjorie. She's in his o-chem class and she's cute. She's been cute all semester. And smart. And funny. Though her typical cozy-sweater-and-jeans look in class does not betray how truly magnificent her tits are. They're propped up by some kind of bra magic in defiance of gravity, and barely contained by the blue-green fabric of her shirt.  She laughs. "You're forgiven. Though by the transitive property, you definitely owe me a drink."
