Quality time with a squid mum 🦑

For decades, marine biologists assumed that all squids laid their eggs in clusters on the seafloor, where the eggs developed and hatched without any help from their parents. However, MBARI scientists discovered that some female deep-sea squid, like this Gonatus onyx, brood their eggs by carrying them between their arms until the young hatch and swim away. ⁠ ⁠ Gonatus females will have approximately 2,000 to 3,000 eggs in a sheath between their arms for as long as nine months. During this time, they are unable to feed and must rely on stored fats from previous meals. This observation of the first known parental care behavior by squid was also an important discovery made possible by the use of MBARI’s remotely operated vehicles.

Does anyone know if MP is still working at that flower shop in Malibu? She hasn’t been tagged in their work lately.

She isn’t. You can’t work anywhere when you have to travel after your mealticket half of the year. But because she has to do sth so it doesn’t look like the full proper sugarbaby lifestyle and so ppl still can pretend she isn’t a groomed sugarbaby she runs her own “business” now.

She is now only doing by order stuff with her Fridayflower account. So if you wanna start paying her at 3000$ she’ll stick some flowers in a vase for you. She’ll also add a critical look on her face while doing it so it looks more credible/professional.

I'm not a regular mom, I'm a deep-sea mom 🙌🏽

Ostracods are a class of crustaceans, sometimes known as seed shrimp. The deep-sea giant ostracod, Gigantocypris, is 30 times bigger than regular ostracods (it's actually the size of a pea ). Their body resembles a shrimp but is completely encased within a clamshell-like carapace. These rotund residents of the deep live in the midwater and are nearly neutrally buoyant. They swim by rowing long, feathery antennae, which are also used for feeding. Those enormous eyes are shaped like parabolic mirrors to help spot bioluminescent prey in the dark ocean depths.

Females like the one in this video clip brood their embryos inside the carapace until they are quite large and well-developed.
