with a rather theatric roll of her eyes, george leans against the brick wall, tucking their hands behind their back as they rock on the balls of their feet. keeping an eagle eye out as nancy goes about fiddling with the door's lock. "if your dad calls, we're studying at my place but you can't come to the phone if he asks to speak to you because you're in the bathroom, or you just stepped out with bess to get us some burgers, or you're on the phone with ned and that's why you're not picking up. i've got more excuses if you wanna hear them, i'm like an expert on excuses at this point," she doesn't like lying to carson for multiple reasons - the first being that it feels like he can just tell when something's up, which it usually is. the second reason being it just makes them feel guilty, as a fellow member of the "i love nancy drew and worry about her health and safety all the time" club, she understood where he was coming from. it couldn't be easy to be nancy's dad, considering what happened to her mom, it was no wonder he was so protective. "and if someone comes, i'll cough as a heads up and ask them if they can show me where the front office is because i'm just so lost. this isn't my first rodeo, drew. i don't love all the subterfuge, but i've got your back."

Let’s Imagine the Core Seven's College Majors

These kiddos are all giant overachievers and would definitely all get multiple degrees. They want to change the world!

Nancy Drew: Everyone is expecting her to pursue a career in law enforcement or criminal justice and Nancy almost does so. However, she gets to thinking about all the various careers she’s dabbled in on her cases and determines if she pursues some of those as her major, she can still continue to solve cases on the side like she literally has her whole life. She is a journalism (shout out to mama Kate) and archaeology double major. After all, both of those fields involve mysteries on a daily basis! (Carson’s kind of disappointed she didn’t pursue a career in auto mechanics so she can fix all of the many problems with her roadster that seem to arise when she’s tracking down leads.)

Ned Nickerson: After he gets a football scholarship, people are expecting him to take an easy major. But, this is sweet, all-American Ned who just wants to help people. He briefly considers becoming a physical therapist but ultimately goes with chemistry pre-med. Ned’s not sure of what his specialization will be in the future, but for now, he’s content to spend time in the lab sending selfies to Nancy with corny captions like, “I’m so glad we have so much chemistry together!”

Bess Marvin: She is the one people thought wouldn’t even make it to college as many citizens of River Heights perceive her as a “dumb blonde.” While she may not be quite as smart as some of her best friends, Bess still has brains and work ethic to spare. As the group’s resident drama queen and people person, it doesn’t surprise them when she announces she will be pursuing a double major in theatre performance and psychology. After an amazing summer job directing a youth theatre show, she adds on her education endorsement, too.

George Fayne: George thought long and hard about what her major should be. After all, there are so many interesting things to learn about! Her love of all things tech certainly plays a role as she declares a major in computer science. She also chooses to add a religious studies minor after she takes a gen ed Biblical survey course and finds it super interesting. One time she accidentally hacks into the school’s whole server and then develops a new security plan that the school immediately adopts.

Deirdre Shannon: I’ll stick with the canon from the games where Deirdre is a criminology major. After all, it makes so much sense! Pleasing the family - check. One-upping that darn Nancy Drew - check. I also think Deirdre would add on another major of psychology because a deep-down part of her wants to figure out why she doesn’t really like people and why people don’t really like her. She and Bess end up in a lot (and I mean a lot) of the same course sections and end up developing a semi-friendly study-buddy relationship that none of them would ever have seen coming.

Frank Hardy: Oh, Frank. This boy just doesn’t know what he wants to do with his life. He sticks with his undecided business major but goes ahead and becomes a mathematics and Spanish triple major as well. He figures those fields can take him anywhere, and our Frank is nothing if not practical. When a high-up position in ATAC/The Network opens up right after graduation, he applies and gets that job.

Joe Hardy: Joe briefly thought about culinary school so he can be surrounded by endless cheeseburgers, but then he remembers that one time he almost burned down the kitchen making a bowl of cereal. Joe decides on aerospace engineering just because it sounds cool and he wants to fulfill his childhood dream of visiting NASA’s headquarters (our boy definitely gets an internship there one summer). He also gets a double minor of Arabic and Spanish: Arabic because he thinks it’s cool and Spanish so he and Frank can have conversations without Aunt Trudy knowing what they’re saying.
