Wind is well aware that he's the youngest. He'd be the smallest, too, if Four wasn't so darn tiny. He's not the weakest, though, and he knows what it's like to protect those he loves. 

He has bruised kidneys and can feel both a black eye and a purple jaw incoming, but he stands straight and steady. The magic thing happening on the other side of the grid of bars is making both Four and Hyrule sick, so it's up to Wind to keep his eyes open and fists ready. He'd all but forced them to take him, too, and he doesn't regret it. 

The people out there don't even glance at Wind. He hasn't seen them so much of anything, really, but he heard them talk, and he knows they want to hurt Hyrule and Four. They sound excited. They want magic, the kind that floats around in solid glass orbs over on one of the shelves like awful trophies. Wind knows that he can't let that happen, and he's prepared to fight.

He may be the youngest, but he's going to protect those two with everything he's got. And 'everything he's got,' well, that's kind of a lot, if he does say so himself.

One of my absolute favorite parts of golden wind is the singularly horrible outfits that the main characters wear, but not just the fact that they're terrible, no no. Sure, they all look like they got dressed with their eyes closed in a boutique for clowns, but the REAL kicker is that they did not always dress in this way??

We see the characters' backstories. We see how they used to look. And almost ALL of them USED TO WEAR NORMAL PEOPLE CLOTHES!!! Why? Why the sudden shift to kitchen sink fashion?? And, of course, there are layers to this, too.

Like. Giorno is his own whole can of worms, concerning exactly what happened between middle and high school. Sure, there's the whole hair color change thing which I refuse to acknowledge the canonical reason behind, but whatever, I can ignore that. Why suddenly decide on that hairstyle? That wardrobe? Especially considering that in every other way he's not exactly the flamboyant, attention-grabbing type... The only explanation I can think of would be, I don't know, he just happens to have a surprisingly eclectic fashion sense and high school was the first time he was able to be on his own away from home to indulge it. First opportunity to show off his individuality and he went whole hog with it, I could see that. Yeah sure you go giogio!! have as many heart shaped boob windows and ladybug brooches as you like

Abbacchio, too. It looks like he mostly dressed normal for his job, but the second he left, he transitioned to his current look? Either that’s just his usual taste or his emotional crisis led him to an emo makeover. Or both. In either case, I suppose that’s valid and I support him. His weird eggshell hat is the only part of his outfit that’s really that out there anyway

But the others??

Narancia. Mista. Fucking Fugo. They all dressed at least mostly normally right up until they joined Passione, at which point they switched on a dime to looking Like That. Sure, some aesthetic preferences seemed to carry over, like Narancia’s boyish style, Fugo’s suit pattern, and Mista’s navel window + crisscross pattern + hat. But they still used to wear, yknow. People clothes. So... Why??? What on EARTH happened???

Well...

Strangely enough, Bucciarati looks like he’s ALWAYS dressed Like That. Same hair style, same colors, same patterns... Given how much everyone else’s backstory outfits clashed with their eventual outfit choices, it’s almost weirder to see that Bucciarati clearly has clothing and style preferences that match up from past to present.

So. I can’t help but wonder.

Did... did the others just assume that, since Bucciarati (and maybe also Abbacchio) dressed Like That, that was just The Mafia Style??? The Style Of Clothing That Mafia People Wear???? So, in order to integrate themselves into Passione, they’d have to start dressing Like That too??????

Actually. Given that all the members of La Squadra and Polpo and the boss’s personal guard and the boss himself ALSO dress Like That... fuck, i don’t know, maybe they were right and that IS just The Mafia Style!! The fact it also happens to align with Bucciarati’s/Abbacchio’s/Giorno’s personal fashion sense might just be a coincidence!!! Who knows!!! Who cares!!!

Where do you even go to BUY clothing like that??? Are there special, under-the-counter sections of clothing stores that specially cater to Badcore fashion for mafia members??? Do the designers earn a special commission for designing clothes no sane person would wear that fit as uncomfortably as humanly possible??? Didn't they say at some point that mafia members try to dress inconspicuously to blend in???? RISOTTO IS LITERALLY JUST WEARING A JESTER HAT WHAT KIND OF CIRCUS IS THIS

But yeah so the logistics of part 5′s character designs drive me insane and I love it

Sitting in a right proper brain funk at the moment. Whole lotta junk bouncin' around up there, all garbled like. I guess I'm sorta bouncing around like... how blurry morality is and fighting a tough fight against what my brain feels so badly I should be ashamed of, but I'm kinda just in a blur right now. It's all faded. Maybe it'll come back tomorrow, who knows. I should sleep off this fog though.

Tomorrow'll be nice either way, just gotta make sure not to push myself. I've got my big halloween art comin' and it's gonna be a good one.

If your Sidestep(s) hadn’t become Sidestep the Hero/Vigilante what would they have done instead? What would their life be like by canon time?

OH! Okay, so, I 100% believe Emery would wind up running his tech/mod repair storefront in earnest and keep his telepathy on the down low. Wouldn't go out of his way to gain a reputation but he's exceptionally skilled with tech and iykyk, right? Probably pack up and move shop from time to time, as a precaution.

And Em would still be doing this into current time. Clientele is primarily civilian but I wouldn't be surprised if any number of notable figures dropped by on occasion. No home visits, can't be trusted. You need work done? Come in person.

He'd be much quieter than Sidestep!Emery, less rough around the edges. Like, Em wouldn't be a pushover by any means but he's not gonna rip someone a new hole for looking at him wrong. Just a quiet, focused guy who would have a panic attack if the spotlight shone on him.

"You don't have magic," one of the bad people says flatly, staring at Wind through the bars. She's not as in-charge as she thinks she is, but she has enough power to choose which part of the cell to open. 

"Sure I do," Wind shoots back. He makes a conscious effort to look as harmless as possible, keeping his arms to the sides and tilting his head to make himself seem younger. It's a useful skill. "See for yourself."

It's not that Wind's lying, not really. He does have a little magic, but nothing he actively uses. He just doesn't know if what he has counts to these people. If they open his cell, though, and take him out there… 

Hyrule's feverish over in his own cell, shivering and quiet. Four's delirious. Wind shouted a lot earlier, all for nothing, so he made another quick plan he set into motion as soon as he found someone who might listen to him.

The woman considers him for a moment, then gives a nod and an order, laced with a threat. Wind just has to time this right.

Since I played the SMRPG remake, I'm now thinking back on the game that became my next hyperfixation from that era: FFTactics. Like Mario RPG, I played the everloving bejeezus out of this game! I maxed out the game clock! Ramza was like 48 years old by the end of it (okay maybe not THAT old)!

But I know if I went back and did a proper playthrough now, my "read" on it would be completely different (I'm way too embarrassed to go into detail about my takes and the resulting fanfic I did as a 13 year-old LMAO). Also I'd like to give the PSP version a fair go; I actually own the game, but unfortunately my PSP battery is looking, well, a bit... Puffy. 😬 (Yes we are disposing of it safely)

Also, due to visual issues I often have with these little handhelds, I might try to (LOUD WHISPERING) rip the UMD and emulate it on my PC so I can at least see the blasted thing without headaches. 🤫 It's legal if its your own disc, right? Right???

I don't know why but I've been thinking specifically about Meliadoul and her brother Izlude, and how like... the latter half of the game becomes (at least in some small part) about avenging his demise. Sad stuff. I love Matsuno's stories.

Afflicted with Thoughts (character who’s forced themself to be rough and callous looking at someone they care for so much deeper than they’d be willing to admit and. Wanting. Craving their touch. A hand held, or a brush of the elbow, anything. They’d burn the world for a hug if that’s what it took. But. That would mean admitting to that soft, wounded thing under all the shrapnel and metal.
