smth smth about 'the thing that the character did that you thought was rly rly funny in the moment is actually linked to a terrible trauma that lies within said character.' or wahtever.
#jrwi show#jrwi fanart#jrwi riptide#gillion tidestrider#made this within a short span of wahtever bc i gotta go up to the mountains for my stupid gay job tonight n im trying#nnot to frrRREAAAK THE FUCK OUUTTTTTTi dont wanna work but. get that bread we fuckin shall i guess#ONWARDS TO THE FISH TORMENT!! sometimes flowers feel pain when you trim them before their blossoming. atleast i imagine so#i used to draw gillion with loooong hair tied into a big ol braid. and then it was confirmed that he had short hair when he was little.#AT FIRST I WAS SAD. but then i realized the duality of. when they were little. gill had short hair. edyn had long hair.#AND NOW THEYRE OLDER. and gillion has long hair. and edyn has short hair#both mirroring eachother. looking up to eachother. subconsciously or not. they most certainly care. and most certainly miss eachother.#GILLION ALWAYS LOVED HOW LONG HAIR LOOKs. atleast i imagine so. he hasnt cut it since he left the undersea. sure he wanted to go back home#but even at the very start. he knew he was free in some way now. free to grow out his hair. an adventure would await him before he returns.#he knew it would be a while. so he cant let this go. he cant let this sought-after hair-length get cut away from him again#not yet. not yet. i like to think he loved music too. I SAW SOMETHING INTERESTING A BIT AGO#i see alot of ppl commenting on my baby gill comics like;'i wouldFIGHT this teacher i wanna KILL EM i want them DESTROYED#all very good and nice sentiments! i LOVE the energy here! and it would be nice. to have that catharsis#but the story of young tidestrider is not a story of catharsis. it is a story of agony and being so so small and so special and also so dum#and sucking so bad. and just being a kid and doing the things that a little kid does and so many tired tired people reacting badly to it#youre supposed to be the hero that will save us. our world hangs in the balance and you are the one who tips the scales.#YOU are supposed to SAVE US!! you NEED to SAVE US! CAN YOU PLEASE STOP SQUIRMING IN YOUR STUPID CHAIR!!#you'd think that young tidestrider ought to prevail. and be tucked someplace all safe and sound.#elders gone missing and rotting in a jail. their cultists nowhere around. but theres no happy endings. not here not now.#this tale is all sorrows n woes. you may dream that justice n peace win the day. but thats not how this story goes#BIG ideas for this lil baby gillion series. if anything i make ever gets disproven im killing myself in a well as to poison a water supply

!! MAJOR JRWI EPISODE 114 SPOILERS AHEAD !!
-
I just had a sick and twisted fucking thought about episode 114 and I need to share it to the world.
Okay, so Chip realises his mistake- trusting Gillion's clone and failing to see the red flags because, well it's Gill (I could go on a rant about this too)- Gillion's clone has pushed him to the ground and is towering over him. If Chip could bleed, his nose would probably be bloody.
And at this exact moment, where Chip can't use his magic to defend himself and his best-friend is threatening to kill him- we cut back to the real Gillion, who is running up these flights of stairs away from a monster that could literally breathe on him and end his life, he's on 1HP.
AND HERE'S THE THING. HERE'S WHAT I'VE BEEN THINKING ABOUT.
Destiny's Blade glows in Gillion's hands and whispers that, 'Chip is about to die.'
Gillion- with zero hesitation- goes running to find him and save his life.
THIS SCENE HAS SO MANY LAYERS TO IT- YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW, MAN- ISTG.
So, for starters, Chip is undead- he physically cannot die, or at least not very easily; I'm guessing that it would take an incredibly powerful, god like entity/bad guy to actually end his undead life now. And yet, Destiny's Blade says that he's about to die.
The blade itself was designed for slaying the undead and the evil entities Gillion himself was designed to fight against- but when it comes to Chip, there's nothing Gillion wouldn't do to protect him with this sword. And that reflects on Destiny's Blade, I would imagine- the blade supports Gillion's destiny, his fight for good.
And to add to this, I don't know if Chip actually could've been killed by clone Gillion- but the idea that he came close and that the sword instinctually reached out to save his life is just- WRAH.
It also highlights just how scared Chip was, because he couldn't fight the clone even if he wanted to, not only because of the magic barrier- but because it's Gill, his co-captain, his best-friend, his paladin (a pirate and his paladin I'm sorry- I love them sm lmao).
And yes, Gillion is known for taking ridiculous risks to keep his friends safe, willing to take every blow and keep fighting like it doesn't hurt because he's a knight, he was trained for this, this is what he's good at- but he runs to find Chip, ON 1HP. I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH- THIS MAN WAS IN PIECES, HIS SKIN HAD BEEN TAKEN FROM HIM, AND IF NOT FOR THE DEATH WARD HE PROBABLY WOULD'VE DIED. But he runs off to find him anyway, no hesitation, no thought of his own well-being, only that Chip is in serious danger and he needs to save him. He won't let him die twice.
PRAYING THAT SOMEONE READS THROUGH THIS TANGENT TBH BECAUSE I'M GOING INSANE RIGHT NOW- I'M SORRY THIS IS SO LONG LMAO 😭🙏

A short essay about how Caspian is mathematically not a mole (ep. 115 spoilers) (and for the whole series for that matter)
Okay, alright guys, I saw your concerns. I saw it all, and you are right to be worried that your favourite blue wet man's blue and equally wet best friend may turn out to be a traitor. And so am I, trust me. Which is why I went through every single bit of Caspian's past I could dig out to create an unltimate timeline of his entire goddamn life to see it it'd be plausible for him to become a mole at any point in time and ultimately prove his innocence! If that's something you're interested in reading, then buckle up!
"Jay, you come from a division of soliders that were purposely put to infiltrate pirate crews, especially the new and upcoming ones. This is totally seperate from the Black-Ops situation that you learned about in the Stronghold. And you, in this book, can tell that there is a plant on Lizzie's crew."
This, of course is something I need to point out first. Whoever Lizzie's mole might be, they are not a doppelganger. They are not a clone, or Black-Ops, just a solider of the Navy, a person that must have gotten into the Navy via regular recruitment, be trained by them and then put into a spy division. Jay ofc had this entire process sped up, due to her grandma's influence, but no one other than her, especially an Undersea citizen, who would probably have to put in extra effort to be trusted given their shaky political situation few years back, would get the same treatment. What I'm trying to say, Caspian would need time, at least few years of training to become a mole they'd trust to infiltrate a crew, and not just any crew might I add. More on that later. Let's go back to his most early years for now. This is a fragment of episode 84 in which Caspian talks to Gillion abt his early life:
C: We all have family. I consider my life up here, this crew to be my found family. But my previous…tribe with the water genasi in the Undersea, where I was growing up…sort of in a [illegible]... remember me telling you about the outskirts? We um…was very nomadic, quite a, quite a peaceful, tranquil life, but it was always, you know…mixed with this life of poverty and my family wasn’t very…wouldn’t really have much but the water around us, and each other, I suppose, so uh…You know...I mean my mother didn’t make it past old age, and uh…
G: I’m sorry…
C: When my sister left the tribe, my father sort of fell into a depression of sorts and he stopped moving around. And when we stayed in one place, I was 18 or so, maybe 16, it was a while ago, and then…that’s when I left as well. Ventured to the Oversea, and um…and it’s history, so that’s my family. Not sure what they’re up to these days, I mean…I know my sister went to the capital, where you were.
G: Pirating is a pretty lucrative business, maybe if…we managed to find them or run into them, we can give something back, put them in a better situation.
C: …Well um…I mean this was 10-15, 10 to 12 to 15 years ago, quite some, quite some time, so I don’t even know if my father is alive still, I mean I don’t really have the desire to go back to the undersea, Gill.
G: Wha-why not?
C: Because I like my life up here. This is where I’m happy.
So, before we go to what all of that entails, one more quick crazy thing to mention: so, Caspian's sister is an Elder of the Undersea. Like for sure. This is confirmed by this part from ep. 79:
The Triton who you remember as the Elder Odolaf, who looks like he is about to speak, but is cut off by the water genasi, who has been doing a lot of talking thus far, who is Elder Celeste. They stand up and there is a familiarity that you notice now in their face. It’s like you have met them before, but not in the way that you know them because they are the Elder, but in a way that it’s like, they look like somebody you know. And she has sort of these uh, white tied-up like dreads that are tied up in like a bun and they come across the face and then one side is shaved. And there are beads and piercings in her hair, her ears are a little bit more sea elf-like in the way that they are pointed and they kind of like gradient into pink. They all kind of wear the same sort of ornate robes, though hers is more, I guess faded and like cut a bit, look a bit more warriorous, or like tribal, but still very well-made and professional.
Tribal clothing, a water genasi, that looks like someone Gillion saw before in the face. The only water genasi Gillion met after leaving the Undersea is Caspian. Elder Celeste is Caspian's sister. Wild. Anyway, not what we're here for, but I needed to mention that.
The crazier thing is that Caspian left to Oversea when he was 16-18, and it has been 10-15 years since then. That means Caspian is currently 26 at possible youngest, and 33 at his oldest, which was surprising to me, I did not imagine Caspian as a man in his 30s! But that's straight up facts, so holy shit, you know?
Okay, so I'm going to list a lot of small facts that determine a lot of ages in quick succession. I hope it's not gonna be too scary to look at, I'll simplify it all at the end. [Deep inhale]
Right now Gillion is 22. So when Caspian left the Undersea, Gillion was 12-7. Jay is 21 and Ava was 2 years older, same age as Lizzie. So Lizzie is 23 now. When Caspian left the Undersea, she was 13-8. Chip is 19, so Lizzie is 4 years older. Hole in the Sea happened when Chip was 9, so Lizzie was 13. So Caspian left the Undersea around the same time Lizzie crashed on the uninhabited island with Chey after the Hole.
It's a lot, I know, I know. So let me clear this up a little.
Hole in the sea was 10 years ago. Chip was 9, Lizzie was 13. 10 years ago Caspian was in the age between 16 and 23, and he left the Undersea when he was 16 or 18. So roughly at the same time the Black Sea happened, Caspian came to the surface for the first time.
(also pls note that we are talking in estimates, casue in ep. 36 Lizzie says she was 11 when the hole happened, but in ep. 101 she says she was the same age as Ava which by the power of math would put her at 13. Either way, somewhere around that age)
After that, Lizzie spend some time on an uninhabited island with Chey, the Black Rose cook, who sacrificed herself for Liz, so she could survive and died shortly after. We do not know how much time passed, but I assume no longer than few months, and after that she was saved by Captain Shadowbeard where she met Caspian. They were a part of Shadowbeard's crew, Caspian saved her from the massacre where Shadowbeard was killed, and then Lizzie went on to create her own crew, Grandberry Pirates with Caspian never leaving her for a second since he met her. That means that the only time Caspian could have joined the Navy would be RIGHT after he came to the Oversea for the first time, roughly at the same time Lizzie was stranded on an island, and in that short period of time (between Lizzie's crash on the island and her being found by Shadowbeard) he would have to find the time to be trusted and accepted by Navy, get trained specifically for infiltration AND infiltrate not anyones BUT FUCKING SHADOWBEARD'S SHIP. Not a NEW crew. A crew of one of the most legendary pirates on the sea. Cause before Lizzie, Caspian was Sadowbeard's crew member, and since then he never stopped being a pirate, so if he was a solider, he would have had to be one before Shadowbeard. And remeber what Grizzly said in 115: "Jay, you come from a division of soliders that were purposely put to infiltrate pirate crews, especially the new and upcoming ones."
Shadowbeard was not new. Not upcoming. He was dangerous and Navy must have had the balls of steal to send a rookie solider, which Caspian would have been at that point in time, to infiltrate him. The numbers say it's impossible. Guys, the numbers! They don't add up!
Anyway, so basically Caspian could not be a mole. He is not a new pirate, he was not a member of a fresh crew, becaue his pirate journey did not start with Lizzy, it started with Shadowbeard. Grandberry Pirates is a new crew, but Caspian is not a newbie in it. You know who is? Rudith. I mean what kind of doctor lets a bunch of rowdy pirates have a secret base under a place where sick and vulnerable rest??? Like ANY other place would have been better and more respectful! Also you know what's interesting? Gillion could heal these people with lay on hands easily, and yet the only thing Rudith did for them was give them potions that didn't seem to help and look after them on purely non-medical level. Bro didn't do shit. Like, why would you even become a doctor without having access to healing magic? The answer, you are not. You are a Navy solider in disguise.
Okay, okay, I'm done, that's all. If you got this far, you are a hero, thank you for reading this insanely long ramble, but that's kind of the conclusions that I came to, of course, any counter-theories and discussion in general is very much welcome! I'd love to hear your opinions! Love you guys, bye~

thinking about ollie now btw.
thinking about him and chip, first of all. thinking about how chip saw this little kid and he saw himself, and so he desperately began to scramble to be everything he needed as a kid that he never got. chip ended up getting caught between 'do cool shit to impress him' and 'keep him safe'. and you can practically see and mark the exact moment where it teetered over into 'keep him safe'. chip's found people that make him want to be a better person and it's so gahgdjhkjwehtjk to think about.
thinking about chip chastising ollie for cursing despite ollie picking up every bit of it from chip.
thinking about ollie calling for chip when things go awry.
thinking about chip just taking the time to check on ollie every time he gets the opportunity.
thinking about ollie clinging onto him and begging not to go home just yet because of the adventures chip's brought him on.
and thinking about the way it haunts chip to hear it because he so desperately wants ollie safe and the albatross isn't always safe. ollie shouldn't be as violent and rowdy as he is at 12 or 10 or 9 or whatever his canon age is.
thinking about ollie and gillion. thinking about gillion being this massive immovable force, this strong warrior in the eyes of a child. thinking about how gillion likely doesn't know how to act around ollie at first because he was never socialized around other kids growing up. but he and ollie actually have so much in common and their friendship is so fucking precious too.
thinking about ollie telling gillion about his journal before he tells chpi and jay.
THINKING ABOUT THE BATTLE THE 2ND TIME THEY WERE IN ALLPORT. thinking about gillion very clearly prioritizing ollie's safety; telling kuba kenta (paraphrased) 'youre going to let him run back to the ship and youre not gonna fucking hurt him' and preparing to use magic or some other spell to protect ollie.
thinking about ollie probably asking to hold gillion's sword. gill's probably like 'hell yeah, but only the worthy can support its weight!' and he lets ollie hold it but magically or however tf holds some of the weight himself so that ollie can actually keep it upright.
THINKING ABOUT OLLIE AND JAY OH MY GOD. thinking about how ollie calls her 'miss jay' which is just fucking adorable. thinking about how he seems to think she's the coolest one on the albatross,, thinking about how he's probably enthralled by jay's inventions and the things she tinkers together.
thinking about how, after jay got her 'wings' (the magical tattoo that allowed her to cast flight), the first thing she did was fly ollie around.
thinking about her trying to be a good role model for ollie because she's like 'well the other two are kind of idiots but i think i can do this right at least'.
thinking about her watching ollie talk about his mother and thinking about her own mother, her own family, and just silently whispering a prayer to the stars, please let this boy's family be good (and as far as i know, his family is good).

i may not have been acting like it lately but i sure as hell am still obsessed with fnc. like. ESPECIALLY from gillion’s perspective and what his and chip’s relationship means for his character
even if you don’t interpret what they have has romantic, it’s still incredible just how well they complement one another.
i think that episode 15 was the beginning. obviously they had some moments beforehand, but i think their fight was what set off two things.
the first is chip striving to be a better person, and in doing so, being HIS OWN person. this began under the threat of violence, but has worked out positively in the long run. but gillion was the first person to challenge his behavior, which, ultimately, was a poor attempt to mimic arlin. chip pulled all the same sorts of jokes that he remembered arlin pulling, but without any of the trust or care arlin put into them. his friendship with jay and gillion was brand new, so it was misplaced domesticity. now, though? being 100+ episodes in, these are his family. and he isn’t mimicking arlin anymore, chip is, or was, his own person.
and i think the second thing that the fight set off was gillion’s doubt. at the start of the campaign, he was courageous, cocky, impulsive. but ever since he first had someone imply to him that his destiny (and the way he was raised) was ultimately harmful to him, he’s been gradually changing from that picturesque hero to someone with the weight of the very world on his shoulders, trying so desperately to do the right thing, even though he doesn’t quite know what that is anymore. he’s cautious, tentative, even. and he’s quiet. he still carrie’s with him a lot of those traits from his introduction, but now we can see his true personality, wearing that mask of righteousness like an ill-fitting shirt. all torn and ragged and coming apart at the seams.
it’s so interesting, because in recent arcs, the two have actually started to seem remarkably similar. they’ve been picking up traits from one another, almost like a trade-off. where gillion begins to doubt his destiny and falter, chip picks up gill’s sword and blindly lunges into battle. where chip pauses to be more considerate of the people around him, gillion lies and tricks and pulls pranks that a long time ago nearly drove him to kill chip where he stood.
it’s like a tug-of-war. a balancing act.
but now, things have changed. very suddenly, i might add.
at the beginning, gillion almost killed chip not just on the basis of him lying, but also on being human. gillion then learned that humans aren’t so bad. but now chip is no longer truly human, but undead. something gillion has been even more kill-on-sight about.
and gillion, he now knows that everything he’s been taught and trained for, his entire life, is bordering on a lie. he’s the chosen one, yes, but what does that even mean? surely, he has the least clue.
idk where i’m going with this. 👍

thinking about gillion insisting that he's sick because his stomach is churning and his skin feels feverish. he still fights through the illness, because of course he has to in order to protect his crew, but it's hard to fight against his knees nearly buckling under him and his heart beating out of his chest at times. this virus has been persistent and it's starting to worsen daily.
the next time they meet the grandberry pirates, he goes to Caspian for help while Jay stocks up with Earl and Chip takes Ollie to see the town. tells him all of the symptoms, how it's affecting his ability to protect his crew, and how suddenly... he no longer feels sick at the moment. curious.
strange as it seems for all the symptoms to have alleviated themselves, Caspian still examines Gill. goes over his fever (he does feel warm to the touch), his stomach problems (maybe an allergy? food poisoning? but he's not vomiting...), the weakness in his muscles (atrophy couldn't possibly be on the table), and the heart palpitations (gillion certainly has the most healthy heart he's ever heard). he comes to a more obvious conclusion.
"Gillion... I think you may be in love."
the revelation completely blindsides him. Gillion Tidestrider, Champion of the Undersea, Hero of the Deep... in love? not possible! but with Caspian's gentle insistence, he comes to realize that it must be the truth. there are no other ailments that it could be, Caspian would never lie to him, and he seems to know a lot on the subject. and he's in love!
"so who is the lucky lady?" Caspian asks as Gillion hops off the exam table.
"it must be Jay, she's the only woman on my ship! i must be off, to confess my love for my co-captain-"
"it doesn't sound like it's Jay," Caspian interrupts, grabbing Gill by the shoulder.
"well, then who could it be?" he's completely stunlocked by his thoughts. Jay is the only person it could be, he thinks.
"you know, it doesn't have to be a woman that you are in love with," Caspian explains. "it could be anyone. man, woman, or someone in between."
"like Queen?" Gillion asks.
"well, do you feel these things when you think of Queen?" Caspian asks in response.
after a moment of thought, he knows it couldn't be. of course he cares about Queen, and this illness that he's been feeling seems to actually be considered a positive thing, but it's not them. Gill shakes his head.
"then it's not them either."
they walk down the dock and into the town together, Gillion still lost in thought and not paying attention until he glances up to see Chip and Ollie walking out of a pastry shop.
young Ollie is raised up over Chip's shoulder, laughing wildly with one pastry in his mouth, and what seems to be a bag full of them in his hand. they smile at each other, but Gill can't help but stare at Chip, who is beaming up at the child on his shoulder. their smiles could brighten up any darkness in the world.
and then all those feelings come rushing back. the guppies in his stomach. the feverish sensation. the weak knees. the heart palpitations.
but there are new ones as well. his mouth gets uncomfortably dry. his palms are moister than usual with sweat. his features soften in a way that is unnatural to the fish man.
he swallows hard and nudges Caspian, not daring to break his gaze at his newfound love.
"i... i think it may be Chip..."
as he starts to walk over to them, Caspian hangs behind and pulls out his callnch shell.
"Jay? yeah, he finally figured out... mhm... yes, you still owe me ten platinum, deal's a deal."
he closes the shell and follows behind Gillion.

JRWI RIPTIDE 114 SPOILERS
GOOOOOOOODDD!!!!! Okay the thing that stood out to me the most about this ep is something I love in general in media: WHEN TINY DETAILS BECOME IMPORTANT.
I fucking love how one of the ONLY ways you can tell doppelgilly isn’t the real Gillion at first is by his fucking footsteps. If they hadn’t literally mentioned it several times earlier, I never would’ve clocked that Gill absolutely does not have quiet footsteps. Bro is big, heavy, clumsy, and slow, and they heard quick quiet footsteps up those stairs. BOTH CHIP AND JAY LITERALLY SAID “that can’t be Gillion he doesn’t sound like that”. IDK WHY BUT I LOVE THAT SHIT I EAT IT UP EVERY TIME. Both the audience and the characters have all spent so much time with him that we KNOW him. We all know these characters SO WELL and the characters know each other so well too!! Having such little things be established well enough that they can become important is so fucking cool. Idk maybe I’m making it a bigger thing that it is but I think that’s one of the cool things with riptide being such a long series, you have so much time with the characters that you really get to play with the story. Time spent getting to know these guys is no longer needed, and they can really do some neat things with such well-established characters.

//jrwi ep 114 spoilers
finished the episode and holy shit there is so much to think about
Faye Ferins message like what does she mean about her son being “stable” what’s up with her wanting to take over the world? she directly mentioned Aster what’s going on with that?? is she heavily religious? does she know of the prophecy?
Dopplegilly was fucking horrifying, the way he was almost gillion to the point i didn’t notice and Chip didn’t notice is so scary, the fact he can’t perform prophetic screwup, and now he’s just a brain dead husk which is so funny to me.
chip’s unwavering trust in gill too, he went to the bones, let gill barricade the door, and even when he knew no it wasn’t gill he still couldn’t lethally damage him. there’s so much care there, and we can really see how his character has changed since the beginning of the campaign because early campaign chip would have let gillion sacrifice himself, now he begs for jay to save gill over him.
and i think a lot of that comes from the love for his crew, but i also think he knows that he’s slowly falling apart, he dosent have as much time as he lets on. i bet at this point he probably thinks he doesn’t have much more to live for, that he’s a goner may as well save his crew, his family if he goes out sooner rather then later.
also i have a feeling kuba kenta is going to be an issue again soon, that worries me
i also really want to know what all jay found in that room, is it info on Ava or is it about the artificial leviathan?? what are we going to find out when they are slightly safer?
UGH ANS GILLION JUMPING INTO A FIGHT WITH 1 HP AND NO ARMOR FOR CHIP WHEN AGAIN EARLY CAMPAIGN GILL MAY HAVE DONE THAT BUT LIKE OUT OF OBLIGATION TO BE A HERO THIS WAS BECAUSE HE CARES BECAUSE THAT IS HIS BEST FRIEND AND HE WOULD DO ANYTHING FOR HIS CREW.
anyways this episode was horrifying and so funny and i loved it so much

some rambles about gillion trans headcanons and other stuff
im realizing that i write these posts because i have no one to talk about riptide with, so this is like a monolog that is meant to be a dialog? sort of? the point is, the thought process is unpredictable and this is just everything that goes through my head and not like a structural point or anything and some things are random and not uhhh pretty(?). i dont even know why im writing these disclaimers, no one cares probably?
anyway. so, if gillion was a trans man, how would that work?
did he know from the young age, before the elders even, that he was a boy? was it just an obvious thing for him and his family? was he loved and accepted? and when the elders took him away, did they accept him as well? did they even see him for a kid/a person he was, or did they only think about the prophecy and didn't care what gender The One was? when gillion got older, did he get his top surgery inside the walls of the palace without anyone questioning him or looking down upon? or did he have to sneak out? probably definitely not sneak out, im not sure gillion ever left the palace or seen the world outside much. did he even get top surgery?
that's an interesting question to me actually, because if tritons (in this campaign at least) hatch from eggs, do females even have bigger boobs? technically no, right? do they even have boobs? i mean, they do have chest muscles and stuff, but do they have nipples? the one time i drew gill without a shirt i didn't draw him any, so im gonna say "no" for now. sorry im huge bore when it comes to these types of questions, i don't even know why actually... is it weird?
uhh what was i talking about... so i guess yeah, if female and male tritons don't have that different of a body structure, gillion probably didn't even need a top surgery to begin with. and maybe he didn't experience much in terms of dysphoria, which honestly? good for him, he had enough going on already...
but if gillion wasn't trans before the elders? if he was fine with his gender, he was only five after all, he had better fiveyearold things to worry about. what happened after he was taken away? was it his own realization, just at an older age?
or was it forced on him by the elders? (its definitely a darker concept and would be out of character for the elders, but as an alternative universe I think its interesting as well). because "the chosen one", the hero of the prophecy, the one who will decide the fate of the world and who will protect the undersea, in the eyes of the elders could've only be a man (if they were misogynistic). and when they come to this family and they see a 5 y.o. girl, what can they feel except disappointment? they will try anyway though, because what are they supposed to do? and if they need a man for a prophecy they will get him one way or another...
again, a darker concept, and i think i like it like an au better than a headcanon for the main campaign. because it's ooc and brings up slightly different topics from the original.
at the end i think i wont headcanon gill as trans? (although who knows, maybe I'll come around eventually, we'll see) maybe as nonbinary or a secret third thing though. gillion to me doesn't feel like a "man" man, his gender is "a guy" i don't know how to explain it hdgsbbs (maybe im just projecting idk o_o)
I love it when people hc him as trans tho, its very sweet!!!!!!! and i believe he does have the top surgery scars in the official art? so like, pop off king lets go???? (actually i just checked and no he doesn't, but im gonna think he does anyway)
im a little scared to re read this post and i think i'll delete it later probably, but uhhh yeah... again, just rambling and thinking out loud (not out loud but you get what i mean. writing all this down or drawing something really helps me to think and figure things out, so that's why)

So brief intro for any one who is un aware what poly pirates is.
Poly pirates is the ship name for the ship of Chip x Jay Ferin x Gillion Tidestrider from jrwi riptide.
NOW
Why does this work????
Poly pirates as a poly ship is like the TOP TIER example of three traumatized people who just deserve to live together and have cats.
Chip and Gillion go together like two peas in a pod, largely supporting eachother and helping eachother, while still having problems like normal people do.
Chip and Jay coexist super well, Chip teaching her how to free herself and Jay teaching Chip how to forgive himself.
Jay and Gillion are parallels, Jay running from the chosen path, Gill being forced from it. Both had childhoods taken from them and Interact kindly. (Kindly as you can expect anyway)
Chip loves them both because he hasn't been ABLE to live properly before, but we see him find solace in two people who decide to stay for and with him.
Jay loves the others because they're two people who don't expect her to do everything right. Two people who do follow her unconditionally.
Gillion loves them because like Jay, he doesn't have to be the champion or perfect or amazing. He can be himself and make mistakes.
As you can see I am completely normal about them (lies)

this is me asking about your grandberry pirate gillion au :0
YESYAYYAYAYAYAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this spawned cuz of a swordfish supercut and also the joke lizzie made abt "you come on this ship you're my crew"
ok SOOO its canon-compliant UP until 53/57, around there ! gilly takes Not Ferin Well a whole lot worse, especially the almost jay betrayal! hes basically the same as he is in canon (atleast to jay and chip) but hes so upset over jay lying to them this whole time even after what theyve been through together. lizzie and caspian roll up on the half a ship and yk yk, gill goes to help and lizzie makes the "hes on my ship, hes on my crew" and. gill just thinks shes serious and hes shocked and then kind of relieved? he didnt know how to confront chip and jay about what happened on block and now he doesnt have to! and so he just. says goodbye to jay and chip and lizzie is like oh shit youre fr? ok welcome aboard. LOL .
jay and chip take this as well as youd expect! theyre obviously very betrayed and upset, and chip is mad at both gill but also Lizzie cuz in his mind she has just taken his best friend away from her :( they go their separate ways after an argument between all of them (mainly gill, lizzie and chip) and jay keeps trying to convince chip to go back, chip keeps trying to sail them forward and is even more deadset on finding arlin now (they drop off ollie way sooner, as soon as they get to zero-- which they leave for after allport)
gill would start to feel guilty but also the training hes doing with caspian and lizzie starts to help him, and hes also coming to terms with being in the oversea and in his mind the grandberry ship is helping him a lot!
anyways a lot of time passes, both ships go on canon-compliant adventures (HOWEVER. grandberry pirates fight off against the navy a lot more than riptide crew does in canon, so gill is also dealing with that .)
since it starts out near ep 50ish, its near ep 100 where they are reunited (in the black sea!) niklaus tempts lizzie (and by proxy the rest of the crew) by saying if they go and help him with what he needs (which is uh. gillion. its the same thing he wants gill to do in canon) that he will bring ava back (he can Totally do that guys.) and then he gets A BIT SILLY and goes to riptide pirate crew (atp theyd have all the normal npcs minus queen cuz that was all gillion's doing) and is like. Do you Want your Fish Guy? Hes somewhere in the black sea. find him for me and ill make sure he comes back to you guys . :D (he can also Totally do that.)
they meet in the black sea, have the same battle they did when they first got there (both albatross and grandberry together) and gill is still the one who saves jay which leads to sillyness ^_^ gill and jay . talk it out and whatnot, chip (once he stops refusing to talk to gill) and gill argue about it and have. surprise. another ice arena moment. theyre so insane.
---also extra notes--- :D
i dont exactly think hed say hes happier on the grandberry ship than with chip n jay i just . think hes definitely less worried about being the main protector? he knows caspian and lizzie can hold their own (not saying jay and chip cant its just .. you know..) and is living with a lot less stress and also has worked through undersea trauma like how he does in canon except with lizzie and caspian so . hes definitely living a better life, and if offered a place back on the riptide crew he wouldnt just abandon lizzie and caspian after all that especially cuz he still has lingering pain from jay betrayal ^_^
has lizzie/ava (past), swordfish QPR (i love them), liz/casp (QPR) (have you heard how caspian talks abt liz?), and uh........ yeah thats it.
also little idea idk where to fit in here . thinking abt gill missing ollie and chip (once theyve made up) being like "the three of us can go back to Zero and see him!" and gill is just like .. "chip this is my family now, im so much happier here than I have been (OUCH.) I can't in good conscious rejoin you as a riptide pirate after i've spent so long with as a grandberry pirate. However I would Like to see ollie." but both ships go and see ollie bc. yeah ^_^. chip is. devastated :(
hes much stronger and also slightly crazier! the navy trying to kill you will do that to you ^_^
i feel like i had something else to say but i forgot it.

I love you a billion, Gillion. - A short story.
@lesbianchipbastard @arandompigeon5
“Hello?”
“This is your mother.”
“Are you there?”
“Are you coming home?”
……………………………………………….
The shell rang. Gillion sat up, assuming it was Caspian, Maybe Lizzie or John. He crawled out of the barrel. He picked up the shell, holding it to his ear.
“Hello? Gillion Tidestrider speaking?” He yawned.
“Oh Gill..” The soft sound hit his ears in such an awful way. The familiar voice of a woman Gillion knew.
“... Mom?” He managed to sputter out.
“Oh Gillion… Our little Minnow…”
“Mom! Oh my - Mom your actually- How are you-” His mind raced at a million miles a minute. How did she contact him? Why did she contact him? But that didn’t matter. He was talking to his mom again.
“Your sister sent us a letter.” He could hear the smile in her voice. Meanwhile, the Champions smile faltered.
“She’s still not… home?”
“No… But she sends letters home quite often…”
“But she hasn’t been home?”
“No, Minnow.” She sighed. Gillion did aswell. She spoke again.
“Are you safe? Your father and I are worried.. I know what your doing is right, Minnow, dont get me wrong but.. I worry for your safety.” Gillion paused.
“..The elders taught me well, Mom.” Lies. They taught him pain and hurt, and nothing but that.
But a little lie to his mother couldn’t hurt right?
“I’m glad you put it all to use..” she drifted off. The call sat in a comfortable silence for a moment. There were so many things they could say. So many questions they had to answer. So many questions they had to ASK. But neither could bring themselves to speak. It hurt. It hurt to think of it all again.
“... My little minnow, Are you coming home?” His mother broke the silence, her voice breaking with it.
“Mom.. you know I.. I can’t..” He sighed.
“I know.. I just.. I want to see you home again, Gillion. It’s been to long…”
“I know, Mom.”
“We miss you.”
“I know, Mom.”
“Come home.”
“I can’t, Mom.”
The call fell silent again.
Had it been 3 minutes?
It felt like 5 hours.
“I love you, Gillion.”
“I love you to, Mom.” He sighs.
“I love you, Gillion”
“I know, Mom… I’ll call again soon.”
“I love you, Gillion.”
“Tell Dad I miss him ok?”
“I love you, Gillion.”
“Mom?..” He felt his surroundings shift. He felt the shell become waxy. And still, his moms voice rang through the line, no longer a comfort. It became a threat. No longer filled with the same soft tone it usually held.
“You.. You aren’t my mom.” Gillions voice cracked.
“I love you, Gillion.”
“Let me wake up, Please..” he begged, tears softly falling from his face.
“I love you a billion, Gillion.”
Silence from the champion of the undersea. It felt like the words were laced with poison as his chest tightened .
“Stay safe.” Those last words hit like a bullet to the back. The phone melted to hot wax. Gillion woke up in his tub. Tears fell from his eyes, filling the water with little splashes. Jay couldnt help but wake up.
“Hey, Gill?.. You alright?..” She stood up, groggily walking over to the tub, kneeling down next to him.
“... Jay, I miss my home.” The words fell from his mouth before he could stop them. He didnt want to miss his home. He knew the pain it caused, the anguish that it left him with. And yet, his heart yearned to feel the hug of the ocean, the hug of his mother. Jay could only sigh.
“I miss my home to, Gill. We can’t go back though, Gillion.. That’s what makes us so alike.” She hummed, her hands pushing his hair back, wiping his face, gently kissing tears from his eyes.
“I try my hardest to make me and chip home for you instead.” She hummed.
“... It’s working.” Gillion smiled weakly.
“We’re home.”

PART 2 of Chip's prosthetic fic! (Here's PART 1)
Jay’s heart ached. She was angry, at first. Annoyed too. Another one of Chip’s dramatic antics, she thought. Sometimes she would play along, but this was during the middle of the fucking night. But after only a few seconds, she understood how much this wasn’t a hoax. Couldn’t help but wonder, how many other times have we missed this? Only once before had Chip had a similar reaction to pain, and her chest shook with a heavy breath at the memory.
She was worried sick. Had her arm wrapped around Chip’s back, hand ending on his shoulder, holding him close by her side. Every time he made a noise of complaint, she would tighten her grip on him and whisper reassuringly, “You’re doing great, almost there.”
When Gill finally finished, he caressed around Chip’s hand, making sure there wasn’t any uncomfortableness left. Cooling his hands, he massaged into the previously wounded skin, roaming across his palm, and up to where instead of a pinky finger, a nub was found.
Chip sighed and melted against Jay’s side, taking in a shaky breath, and loosely pointing to a sink cabinet. Gill wordlessly reached out from the floor and opened it up to find a can of Baking Soda. He looked at Chip confused, but hesitantly gave over the powder since Chip kept his hand outstretched, not using Jay for support anymore.
Once in Chip’s hand, his thumb unlocked the cap with a gentle “pop”, and sprinkled some over his left hand, spreading the soft powder throughout it. “It’s to prevent itching and chaffing.” Chip said plainly, at Gill’s confused look.
Jay was taken aback, he already had something prepared for this. “How long has this been happening? What was that?” Jay asked. It looked much better now; the only thing left was the outline the prosthetic had made on Chip’s skin for being worn so long. She took his hand, and traced the marks and dents left. “Why haven’t you said anything..?” She asked finally, pushing for an answer.
“It’s… never been this bad.” Chip supplied, but didn’t elaborate. Gill inched closer while working to hold Chip’s right hand, imitating Jay in the other side, worried but attentive. Chip looked up, and met the concerned eyes of his Co-captains, who were giving him the silence to think. He looked down at his hands intertwined with Jay’s and Gillion’s, how he’s still not used to seeing four fingers instead of five. He took a deep breath to ready himself.
“I feel weird, without my prosthetic. My grip isn’t the same. Holding my sword is harder, and I can’t afford to not hold my own as a pirate. What if we get attacked during the night again? And I’m not fighting at my best?” What if he couldn’t protect Ollie? What if he harmed someone else on accident? What if he got himself hurt and someone else got hurt trying to help him instead? These... aren’t viable options. “So I just,” He shrugs, grimacing. “Never took it off.” he muttered. “It hurt but, it was manageable.”
“Chip..” Gill frowned. “You’re only hurting yourself; you can’t fight at your best if you’re hurt.” his hand gripped harder at Chip's.
“Gill’s right, y’know.” Jay agreed. “We’re here to lean on the other when we need help. But we can’t read your mind.” She gestured to his head. “Let us help you. Lean on us.”
Chip smiles a little, “That’s fucking corny as shit.”
“How about we work on your grip strength? You can attach your prosthetic to a belt while we get to land. We’re gonna be at sea for a few days.” Jay insisted. “Give the prosthetic a break, Chip, please. Your hand already suffered once because of it.”
“I can help you train with your sword!” Gill said with a new shine is his eye.
Chip still felt unsafe, as if parting with his prosthetic would mean something would go wrong. “I can’t. How am I supposed to work?”
“How are you supposed to work well when you're constantly in pain? If you gain the confidence to go about your day without the prosthetic, you’ll be able to function assuredly with or without it.” Gill reasoned with dedication and care laced in his voice.
Jay picked up the metal prosthetic, it rattled a bit because of the movement. “In the meantime, I’ll find ways to cushion it,” she looked at the inside, “so it doesn’t scrape you as much. Maybe it wasn’t fitted well.” She finished, feeling along the edge of it. Muttering more ideas under her breath while closely examining the contraption.
“See, Chip, this is going to be fun, because you’ll learn how to re-balance the weight of your sword, right? Then your equilibrium will increase and better because of it since you’ll learn to adapt and-" he continued off in an excited ramble.
Chip stared at Jay and Gill lost in their mission of trying to persuade him.
He suddenly felt a wave of love flood his chest, while staring at his best friends who despite being and looking ruggedly tired, ran to him, and stayed to help him. People who he didn’t know a year ago but couldn’t stand to live without today. He was overwhelmed by emotions and memories alike. And at 2am, on the bathroom floor, illuminated by the dim candle light and surrounded by his family, there’s truly only one thing he can say.
“Okay, okay. I’ll give it a shot.”

Do you guys ever wonder if Edyn's name is an actual reference to the Garden of Eden?
The first humans in the garden were forbidden to eat from the tree that would allow them to know good and evil. Edyn, if you think about it is in fact the guardian of Gill's innocence in a way. Gill has been thaught very little when it comes to how the world actually works. The Elders made sure he was unaware of this so they can be the ones to control his actions, so they can be able to point him to the things he should protect and the things he should destroy without having Gillion ask questions. Edyn observed the damage they've done to Gill over the years and at some point she understood that reversing it might not be something she is able to do. She was just a child herself, not aware of so many things yet, and even when she was, shattering her brother's worldview, his hope that he's helping people, that his suffering has meaning...well, Edyn realized that this false belief might be the only thing that keeps Gillion from breaking completely. So she smiled, kept her visits lighthearted, kept working without Gill's knowledge, learning and discovering the world the way one should. So maybe one day she could set her brother free.
But by doing so, Eden contributed to keeping Gillion in his own bubble. His false perceptions of the world became such an integral part of him, that his entire being became connected to it. Edyn thought it'd be better. That she's making him hurt less, that keeping Gillion in the dark is the best way for him to exist. She didn't realize how incredibly heartbreaking it would be for Gillion to find out one day. To understand that everything he's ever been was a lie. How lost, afraid, empty he would feel now that years of hollow conversations about nothing, and things she chose to keep from him gathered above him and came crushing down on his back. How much it hurts to learn that Edyn doesn't think that Gillion can take the truth, how she doesn't want his help and how he falsly believes that she thinks of him as a burden, as an obstacle.
Edyn wanted to be Gillion's Garden of Eden. The place where he can just be Gillion, where he can laugh and cry and where no truth of the world outside disturbs his soul's peace. He needed to think his pain is necessary, and so Edyn helped him keep that sanctuary, though she never intended to leave him there forever. But now Gillion found out and there is no Garden of Eden to hide inside, no Edyn in sight to take comfort in, to rest and to cry on.
It wasn't Edyn's fault. She did what she could to help Gillion survive the worst years of his life. It wasn't Gillion's fault either. Just the fate of two siblings, and circumstances of being stuck with the people who wish them harm.
