Decided on the name "Hannes" for Hospitaller (literally just another version of the name John since that's the Order's name).

Gabriel being a lil sht is so true, don't let his pretty face and sweet voice fool u. None of the Orders are as holy as they think to be lol. Also Gil being a lil worried for his boyfriend how cute(⁠*⁠´⁠ω⁠｀⁠*⁠)

Their heights have nothing to do with their personification status, I just found it funny if Hannes ended up being the shortest out of them since he kept bragging about how tall he was as a kid.

As much as I was teutemp canon in this au, I won't bc while Gil is so obviously in love even after all this time w/ Gabe he doesn't confess bc he's still unsure of what KT thinks about him (spoiler: KT is struggling w/ religious trauma but is definitely, absolutely, in love with Gil as well). It'd be nice to work on a modern au with this trio (heck, even the other military orders), where they all live together in a townhouse and get into all sorts of shenanigans, but idk.

Context:

Hundreds of years after the fall of Earth, mankind is slowly starting to return. Some people have a stronger urge to return than others, confused by fragments of memories from a life already lived.

Ludwig is six, and is sick again. The doctors don't know what's wrong with him; they know what's causing it at least but they have no idea why. He can't keep food down and every time he tries to stand the world pitches and swims and he can't keep his balance so he never manages to stay up for long before he bonelessly falls to the floor, where he feels no better.

It's the gravity, the doctors say, for some reason he's affected by the gravity. The artificial gravity that he's known all his life; it's as if he's just climbed aboard and his body suffers from relapses where it just can't acclimatise. Where it suddenly realises that something's not quite right and rebels against him for a week or so. This his family already knows, but his mother isn't satisfied with such a lacklustre answer so she takes him to a different doctor every time he suffers another attack just in case one of them is even marginally more competent than the last. These 'episodes', as his mother likes to call them, don't happen all that often, but he seems to have one every ten months or so and they are regular enough to annoy his mother to no end. Ludwig doesn't really know if she's annoyed that no one can fix him or with him himself, Gilbert won't say and normally his big brother talks to pretend that he knows something so his silence worries Ludwig the most.

Mother is a very important person with a very important job: she's a governor of the space station upon which they live and it is very important that Ludwig remembers this. So, when he's laying in bed clutching at his belly and desperately clenching his eyes shut to minimise the swaying, his friends at school think that he is away for a special training academy. Because can you just imagine, the governor of a space station's son being space sick?

His father doesn't like to call it that because he thinks it's degrading so his mother doesn't, when she thinks Ludwig can't hear, anyway, but Ludwig knows that's what the kids at school would say so he happily keeps mum because it's easier than lying. They don't talk to him much besides, they find him too cold and distant but that's because he's so scared of disgracing his mother further that he can't quite relax fully.

When Ludwig is thirteen his mother, after exhausting all doctors aboard their large floating colony, finally accepts that it's unlikely that this small problem of his is going to go away. Her way of dealing with it is to pretend that it just doesn't happen; during an attack Ludwig is sent to his room where he stays painfully alone with only his books for company whilst she busies herself with her new campaigns. She's running for director now, aiming as high as she can go and there's no room for weak, feeble Ludwig all the way up there.

His brother tries his best to keep him entertained and happy during these times, but Gilbert is healthy, strong, smart; he's everything that Ludwig should also be able to grow up to be and their parents have sent him off to expensive schools which means that he's more often away from home than not. Sometimes Ludwig wonders if they've sent him away because they want Gilbert to be the all around best he can be, or if it's to distance him as much as they can from Ludwig. It's almost as if they're worried that Ludwig will taint him, or that maybe Gilbert will grow too attached to him and distract himself from what's really important. That Ludwig will anchor him down.

At five years older it's highly unlikely that Ludwig will be the one doing the influencing, but his brother, despite hardly seeing each other and such a large age difference, does seem to genuinely care for him. During one particular attack, when Ludwig is eighteen, Gilbert is home from university; it is almost Christmas and his family are preparing to travel to where his grandparents live on the other side of the space station, where they'll spend the holiday. Of course, it is now that his body decides to betray him.

He, his parents, and his brother are gathered around the large dining room table finishing off dinner. It is tense. Mostly it is Gilbert who talks because despite their mother's cool demeanour and their father's lack of interest he seems to always have something to say to fill the silence and speaks easily. Even with the response he gets, or lack of it, he seems honestly unperturbed and remains cheerful, somehow managing to both eat and speak without seeming impolite. As much as he loves his brother, Ludwig is also supremely jealous.

He stares at his fork, contemplating which point in the evening would be best to ask if he could slip away, when his body decides for him. His stomach swoops, his ears pop and the table tilts alarmingly. He clenches the edge in panic to remain upright and the noise alerts his mother, who looks up from her dessert in irritation.

'Ludwig, we are going away tomorrow.'

'M- mother-'

His mother sighs and looks at his father, who sharply stares back. 'Dear?'

His father grunts and spears another forkful of fruit pie. 'They're expecting him to come.'

'But the photographers-'

'What do you want me to do, Hilda?'

Meanwhile, Ludwig has still not been dismissed and cannot now seem to find the words to ask for permission himself without spewing all over the fancy silverware. He doubts that that will make the situation better, somehow. Gilbert notices and stands, attracting his parents' attention.

'I'll take Luddy to his room.'

'Darling...' their mother tries to say something, but it's what she's trying not to say that comes across the loudest.

Gilbert ignores her and walks around the table, slowly helping Ludwig to his feet, then away from the table and swiftly towards a bathroom. They make it just in time. Gilbert pats him comfortingly on the back and rubs soothing circles into his shoulders until he's finished, then hands him a glass of water.

'So, they're still arseholes, huh?'

Ludwig snaps his head up in horror, but this is a bad idea because the image of Gilbert swims before him and he has to shut his eyes.

'Don't call them that.' He finally manages, weakly.

Gilbert tuts. 'What the fuck did they feed you with in order to churn your personality out.'

Ludwig lays his head on the cool tiles of the floor and groans inwardly at how nice the feeling is. 'They're not arseholes.'

'Yeah, and my name's Shirley.'

Ludwig cracks open an eye, but Gilbert's not joking. He is, for once, deadly serious. 'How'd you put up with them Lud?'

Ludwig shrugs and gives a small shake of his head. 'They're our parents, Gil. They still care for me. Besides, I'm not exactly making it easy for them.'

Gilbert looks disgusted. 'You're their fucking son, arsehole. They're supposed to take care of you. They ain't even doing that right are they?' Gilbert runs a hand through his shock of white hair and bits his bottom lip whilst he shakes his head. 'Look at how they treat you versus me.'

'Yes, but I'm not exactly-'

'But nothing!' Gilbert raises his voice slightly and swallows. When he speaks again, he's much quieter, back under control. 'Have they got you in a university programme yet?'

Ludwig's silence is answer enough and Gilbert sighs deeply before brushing back Ludwig's sweaty fringe. 'There's nothing wrong with you Lud.' His brother sounds so very sad. 'Fuck, there's nothing wrong with you at all. They know full well that if they put you on a planet rather than this floating heap of rust that you'll probably be alright. And have they? Have they fuck.'

Ludwig wants to argue against him, wants to say something to stand up for himself if not for their parents but his eyes are suddenly burning and his throat is choked up. He knew a long time ago that his parents had given up on him, but to hear it from someone else hurts more sharply than anything he tells himself.

There's an odd companionable silence for a while; Ludwig lays still with his face against the floor and his brother's hand carding through his hair so he almost misses what Gilbert says next.

'I was gonna wait till Boxing Day, but I've got us tickets for Earth.'

Ludwig tenses and holds his breath. Gilbert continues. 'I was gonna wake you up on the 26th and take you away with me, but I want to tell you now instead, cause you look like shit. We're gonna get out of here Luddy; I've always wanted to take you to a planet and what better one is there than the original, huh?'

'You, I- you can't- what about your studies? The internship you've got?' Ludwig manages to stammer out, opening his eyes.

Gilbert brushes his concerns aside. 'I never liked medicine, really. I've always wanted to go to a planet, so I'm mega up for it.'

Ludwig knows he should say no, knows that he shouldn't take up the offer. He'd be denying his brother so much, he'd be exactly what their parents worried he'd be because he'll only drag Gilbert down and down and down like a heavy lead weight and ruin all of his chances at a good life.

But Ludwig wants to be selfish. He reaches out and clasps onto Gilbert's hand, squeezing it tightly. 'Gil...'

Gilbert flashes him a grin and winks. 'I know, right? How awesome am I?'

This is from my fic Earthbound, which I’m embarassingly fond of. It’s made up of several different stories and Ludwig and Gilbert’s is the one that I’m the most happy with after all these years.

Golden Boy 2021 Top 40 announced

The Top 40 Golden Boy nominees for the year 2021 have been announced.

100 names were published in June, with the list being trimmed to 40 today, and by October 15, 20 names will be in the final list to be voted on.

The Golden Boy award is given to a young footballer (under the age of 21) playing in Europe's top leagues who is seen to have been the most impressive during a calendar year.

Pedri Gonzalez and Eric Gracia have been included in the list. Last year, Ansu Fati finished in 2nd place behind Erling Haaland.

“Will you ever stop being a child?” 

It has been rare, during this sennight spent with my parents, to be addressed or spoken to. Of course, this is nothing unusual. I grew up in silence, more often than not, unless I made the sound myself, or if there was a particularly persistent bird filtering in through open windows. 

Now, though, it’s my mother who speaks, glaring daggers at me across the carpeted floor of the parlor. Admittedly, I don’t at first understand why she’s asking me such a question. To fill in the quiet places where it has now become something odd and uncomfortable, I’ve taken to doing what I did as a little girl; I make my own noise, or at least do something to occupy my own mind. This time, I’ve focused on making socks for Gabriel. 

He likes practical gifts. At least I can make him something that’s both practical and from the heart, but...

I frown, looking down at the pile of them laying on my lap, and brush my fingertips over the little hedgehog that I’ve embroidered upon them - at what it is my mother is so vexed by. 

“It’s for a gift,” I murmur, unhappy with how meek and small my voice sounds. “It’s... I thought it added a nice, personal touch.” 

“Are you not making them for a grown man?” she snaps at me. “What makes you think he’d appreciate the little woodland animals you’re wasting your time adorning his gift with? Can you not do something more useful? I need herbs crushed for medicines, or you could be practicing your healing. What need do you have for knitting garments? Do your father and I not provide you with gil to pay for your needs and expenses?”

Each word hits me like a weighted stone - blow after blow after blow. Perhaps the digs and nagging are insignificant, and I’m simply oversensitive. 

“I am a grown woman,” I start, keeping my eyes low, “and I can choose what it is I want to do to entertain myself--”

“You are only grown,” my mother interjects, too coldly, “when you no longer feel the need to point it out to others, Elowyn. You are a foolish, useless sort of girl, aren’t you, who only knows about silly, useless things? I would have hoped your time... ‘adventuring...’ might have taught you something.” 

“I have learned plenty!” My voice cracks, but I push on. “Mother, please, this seems such a terrible overreaction to me-- to me simply wishing to put a personal touch on a gift, I don’t understand--” 

“No,” she sneers, and I recoil, like she slapped me. “No, I suppose there isn’t very much that you understand, Elowyn.” 

My hands tremble just slightly as I look at the pile of socks in my lap. I made sure to use a variety of different weights of yarn, different colors, taking every situation I could into account. There’s even a couple of pairs made with yarn enchanted to be waterproof, so that his feet aren’t soaked through if he ends up traipsing through a lake or pond or puddle. 

Isn’t it a nice thing, I wonder, as my mother rises to her feet and leaves to return to her work, to make things by hand for others? And isn’t it good, to stand up for yourself if you’re being pushed?

Why does she always succeed in so often making me feel small? 

Quiet, I put my work into the wicker basket at my feet and stand, looking around the room. It’s such a beautiful house. It’s so beautiful, and in my mind, my memories of it are not bad. Maybe things were often difficult. Maybe I struggled with an endless type of loneliness, in these marble halls and rambling gardens and handsome, dark wood furniture, but... 

I wanted to see the good. I have always wanted to see the good. This time spent with my mother after a few months of being apart, though, has admittedly been taxing. I thought it would be a good idea. Gabriel would be free to see his family and crewmates without having to worry about looking after me, too, and maybe - just maybe - my parents would be impressed at how I might have grown and matured after being in the world for a while.

My father was happy to see me, at least. 

Jareck looks up as I pass the door to the den that he has turned into his own personal armory, and I wonder if he can see the look on my face right away. He rises to meet me in the wall, and I blink as he gently grabs my arm.

“Has she been unkind again?” he asks me, softly, and I blink again, swallowing the lump in my throat. My eyes, though... I know they’re already glistening. 

Just a few words. Just a few firm, cold words is all it takes to unravel me. Maybe my mother is right. Maybe I’m still a child. Maybe I still know nothing, understand nothing, that I am oversensitive and feel too much and don’t do enough for the amount that I talk about ideas and dreams. 

Maybe I am the failure that she seems to think I am. 

I don’t even say a word. Jareck simply hugs me, because he knows. He can see it in my face. He pets my hair, and I feel his chest fill as he draws in a breath, the way that he does when he’s trying not to be angry. For a moment, I feel frightened - frightened that he’s angry with me. 

“Being home is not good for you, Elo-child,” he rumbles quietly. “This is no place for sweet girls.”

“Why is she always so unkind?” I blurt out, faster than I can stop it, and the tears follow. Jareck is quiet for a moment, still petting my hair. 

“I do not know,” he sighs. “I do not know why your mother never has a civil word to spare you, little one. But I am sorry. Do not weep. It will all be alright. What did she say to you to rattle you so?” 

Leaning back, my hulking Hrothgar of an uncle figure looks at me, watches me intently with his bright eyes as I ramble and cry. When I finish, he frowns, practically crouching down so he can wipe my eyes with his large hands. 

“Your elf will love your gift,” he tells me firmly, but not unkindly. “Including your little hedgehog. He is prickly like one, no? Do no listen to your mother, Ellie. There is nothing wrong in what you do. She is...”

And then he stops, because he knows, even in the state I am in, that hearing someone speak poorly of my mother would hurt me. 

“The moon is full and bright tonight,” he says instead, smiling as I sniffle. “Enjoy it. Take a walk out into the forest. It will clear your head. And, when you come back, call your elf. That might clear your head, too.” 

But I didn’t want to call Gabe. Not because I don’t want to talk to him, but because... I am still afraid. 

I’m still afraid he’ll think that I’m as sensitive and as ridiculous as my family seems to think that I am. That I am a waste of potential. That I am silly and useless and that I know nothing at all but how to be a child. 

Even the mention of the full moon doesn’t register until I reach my old room. 

It is pretty. My father made me a glass ceiling so that I could always see the stars and the sky - my fourth nameday present. Maybe my father would understand, if I... knew how to talk to him? If we were closer. We can exchange small talk and lighthearted conversations. I can beam as he excitedly explains his inventions to me, or I used to be able to go to him when I fell and scraped my knee for a pat upon the head and a bandage. 

Other than that... I don’t know. I don’t think, at least, that he would make me feel the way that my mother does. He would listen to me. How much of me, though, would he be able to understand?

I don’t sit on my bed or a chair or the chaise. Instead, I sit upon the floor and criss-cross my legs, hugging my knitting basket to my stomach. I sit, and I gaze up through the glass ceiling to the full, glittering moon and all of her ladies-in-waiting in the form of stars... and I breathe. 

My lips part, and it’s only then that I realize that my tongue hurts.

I had bitten it so hard while my mother laid into me that it had bled.

All because of a cute little hedgehog on a few pairs of socks that I was knitting for my best friend and... lover? Boyfriend? Person? My elf? 

For my Gabriel. My sky pirate. My prickly hedgehog. 

His teasing doesn’t hurt. His criticisms used to, but he knows where the line is of what I can handle and what I cannot. He tells me what I must hear without making it hurt or making me feel small, most of the time. I know his nature is brusque. He cares, at least, if what he says hurts me. He cares if they make me cry. He apologizes, and he does better. 

For all of the hurt Gabriel himself has felt... for how different we are... 

He is still kind. He understands. He adjusts for me.

 The woman who birthed me can’t do the same - or, maybe, won’t. I can take a lot more punishment than she thinks. I can listen to her for a long time, ripping me apart, everything about me, before I let it start to hurt. 

I hope I am strong. I hope that I’m good. I want to be brave, too.

I don’t want to be like my mother. I hope I’m never like my mother, if someday I should have a child of my own.

Bowing my head, I press my forehead against the handle of my basket, and give way to fresh tears. Even then, through tightly shut eyes, I can see the way the moon glitters. Sniffling, I lift my head, watching as a star shoots through the sky.

‘Don’t be sad,’ it seems to say. ‘Do not ache so. You’re never alone as you feel.’ 

I’ll watch the sky for a while. I’ll wash my face and I will pull myself back together, just like I did when I still lived in this place, each day. I am weak, maybe. Maybe that’s true. Maybe I am weak and small and silly.

Maybe it will feel better in the morning.

Mcsm AU- The Order of the Ocelot

In this universe, the Ocelots were the losers. They never one any build competitions, always being one upped by the Order of the Pig.

After a deal with a mysterious man by the name of Gabriel falls apart, Aiden and Lukas request help from their team and Jesse to stop the powerful Witherstorm.

They are given a glowing amulet from the Great Hero- Ivor.

They then go on a search for the Order of the Stone- The red stone engineer Magnus, the Griefer Ellegard, and Soren.

(Story pretty much goes on the same way it did in the original series, except some options/events/conversations will change based on the personality of the characters).

Hall of Realms portion, Petra and the others are hurt by Jesse spending more time with the Ocelots, causing them to form their own group. Again they end up in Skycity, but this time they aren’t dominating the place. Petra and Axel want some nice treasure. A few mishaps later, and the original events play out.(I’m not going to swap everyone in the other universes as that would take a while, but if someone else wishes to they may)

I’m not really sure how Season 2 would play out, maybe I’ll make a part 2 when I figure it out?

If Jessica did suggest one of rich people mental health rehab, I could see gil agreeing with her that malcolm needs togo because he's ill and that if Malcolm refuses.(could see him going as kid and having a bad experience) One of them will be checking in on him in person eveyday and that he needs to Gabrielle more .

oh yeah I feel like malcolm was probably hospitalized at least once when he was younger and I’m sure jessica would arrange for it to be a nice place but I doubt malcolm would have any kind of good experience there.

Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark Review

I really enjoyed Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark! While I preferred Goosebumps as a kid, the three Scary Stories books were also an ever-present part of my childhood and I can vividly remember reading them by flashlight with the lights off. The vast majority of my early knowledge of urban legends came from the stories in those books and they certainly helped build my love of spooky things in general as well as the “kids encounter the supernatural” sub-genre of horror/sci-fi specifically. I haven’t read the books in years (though I still have them), but this movie made me want to revisit them because it’s so good!  

Full Spoilers…

Scary Stories is anchored by very strong performances from its teen cast. The main kids do really well with the material they’re given, crafting protagonists that touch on standard teen archetypes but that are also fleshed out, especially Zoe Margaret Colletti (Stella) and Michael Garza (Ramon). Stella is the most well-rounded and explored character in the film, and Colletti displays a huge range of emotion! She capably led the movie and she clearly has a bright career ahead of her. I liked that Stella was the most into horror and nerdy things among her friends, but no one treated that as weird even in this film’s era (girls have always been into nerdy stuff too!). The one thing I wanted more of in terms of her character was why “everyone said” it was her fault that her mother left. Feeling responsible for the absence of a parent is a common childhood misconception, but it seemed weird to frame it as something the whole town would be telling her without also giving a reason for it (though it did give her a connection to Sarah’s own persecution by the entire town, even if only in Stella’s mind). It was really cool of the movie to draw Ramon as the mysterious outsider kid rather than some troubled/tough white kid. That lent the movie a fresh feel while also touching on the racism of the period (which is still in full force today; one of many grounded horrors the movie dabbles in that are very much as relevant now as they were in the film’s 1968 setting). Garza brought an effortless coolness to Ramon that felt appropriately period while also acting as a great mask for his fears. Ramon and Stella’s budding romance was sweet and cute too.

Auggie (Gabriel Rush) and Chuck (Austin Zajur) were no slouches either, providing most of the film’s comic relief while also capably playing real terror and friendship. The two of them and Stella felt extremely natural as friends since childhood and Ramon also effortlessly blended into the group; these four kids’ chemistry was fantastic! At first I wished we'd gotten more personal connections between Chuck and especially Auggie’s fears and their personalities: most victims here face stories pulled from their established fears and anxieties, but Chuck and Auggie’s initially felt more random. A personalized connection to the stories the book used against them after “reading them” would enhance the scares and illuminate their characters, and after thinking about it more I think I may have an idea of what they're going for. I could buy Auggie as a hypochondriac, so eating a toe would be horrifying, and he seems to be the most afraid of spooky things among his circle of friends, so maybe his story is attuned to him, but just felt generic because of the more generalized nature of his fears. Chuck’s story is based on a recurring nightmare he has, but I think it’s more personal than that. The Pale Lady (Mark Steger) could be punishment for Chuck’s objectification of women via his pen, but I’m wondering if perhaps that pen is a front (given how quick to show it off he is, to prove his interest in it) and he’s secretly gay. He scoffs at Auggie’s attraction to Ruth (Natalie Ganzhorn), he’s attacked by the book in a mental hospital (homosexuality was classified as a mental illness in 1968), and his nightmare calls its red room (which turns out to be the entire building when the alarm lights come on) “an evil place” (conversion therapy is torture). I think the Pale Lady is a manifestation of conformity and traditional relationships being forced onto him (or rather, forcing him into their narrow definitions by literally absorbing him): she’s everywhere and he can’t outrun or escape her.

Chuck’s sister Ruth also got some solid depth: though initially introduced as a stuck-up and cliché popular teen, they quickly had her stand up for her brother. The fact that both of them annoyed one another but they still raced to help each other made their relationship feel very real. That she’s helping continue the search for him at the end of the film instead of being condemned to insanity forever or something is awesome too! Tommy (Austin Abrams) was the only teen character that was really written as one-note, but it was a frightening note, both because of the violence and racism he exuded and the fact that he could easily be a modern radicalized teen, filled with all the same kinds of hate, rage, and eagerness to go off and kill people in a pointless war that you can find online nowadays. Now that I think about it, Chief Turner (Gil Bellows) was also written fairly single-mindedly and he was also a villain. I wonder if that’s intentional: these human villains don’t have redeeming qualities or sympathetic backstories, so their racism and ugliness is fully on them. Of course, continuing to embrace racism is always fully on the racist, but this film isn’t even trying to make excuses for why they might be like that. I think the movie’s saying there really isn’t anything more to people who are this consumed by hate and ignorance. There’s no point in trying to reason with them because they’re exactly what they present to the world (except they’re not strong like they pretend: they’re just scared straw men). 

The movie’s main villain, Sara Bellows (Kathleen Pollard), does have more layers to her than these human ghouls: despite being “evil,” she’s presented as (initially) being a victim whose only crime was trying to warn the town about mercury poisoning in the water. After taking her revenge on her family for committing and torturing her, Sarah’s decline into unfocused rage parallels Stella’s inability to let go of her feeling that she drove her mother away nicely. I wonder if part of Sarah’s reason for attacking the kids just for finding and taking her book was because she thought they’d lie about her too; it’s when Stella promises to write and tell her story faithfully that she relents, after all. Skimming through the books again after seeing the movie, I realized I’d forgotten they were written to help you scare the people you were reading to, so I liked that Sarah telling stories tailored to her victims was her method of vengeance and that Stella had to help tell her story to end the terror. Those are cool ways to honor the structure of the books.

The film has a great mix of jump scares (some of which did work on me), gross-out imagery (Auggie and that toe, man!), body horror (Tommy’s fate was brutal and painful-looking!), and real-life terror (Ramon running from the draft resonated with me a lot; even as a kid growing up in the 90s, being drafted to go die in some war was a major fear of mine). It was sobering to see just how many of the societal problems of the late 60s (racism, pollution, white boy rage/toxic masculinity, useless wars, the wealthy screwing over everyone for profit, no one listening to women, etc.) still haven’t been solved today. I do wish the movie were a little scarier, but the overall tone is wonderfully spooky (and decidedly “fall,” which was great), while the comic relief breaks up the tension nicely. The design of the monsters is very cool, with some of them looking like they walked right out of the books. The pacing is brisk, the directing, writing, and score are all solid, and the actors all bring their A-game. Sarah Bellows’ book was a good way to weave the original series’ stories together and I really liked that our heroes don’t just forget or ignore what they’ve been through and walk away from the terror at the end of the movie. Instead, Stella, her father (Dean Norris), and Ruth are actively headed off to rescue Chuck and Auggie. I love that, like in the real world, you can’t just let evil fester: you’ve got to stand up and protect each other. Ramon also goes off to face his fears, enlisting in the army, but that was a lot more somber: I didn’t get the sense that he’ll be coming back (though I hope he will!).

I’d definitely watch More Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark and hope we get another movie (and a third one, if they want to go that far)! I love this spooky 90s literature renaissance that’s going on and I’d like to see it continue (please give me Goosebumps 3 and a show about The Adventures of the Bailey School Kids while we’re at it!). In the meantime, get your Halloween season started early, because these Scary Stories are definitely worth a trip to the theater!

Reluctantly Giving - Prompt #23 - Alms

So many refugees, so many that needed help and no one who seemed to want to help them. It always bothered Gabriel when he had to travel to Ul’dah. There were so many things that the government could put into place that wouldn’t cost much money but would help so many.

But no, the tightfisted monetarists in charge didn’t want to part with a dime. This is what happened in Gabriel’s opinion when overly ambitious ass wipes bought their way into power. Limsa was by no means the height of civilization, but it at least tried to have some programs to help those in need, and being a port town there was never a lack of jobs that needed hands.

He walked cautiously down Pearl, seeing the refugees huddled against the edges, especially when any Brass Blades went by. They kept their poor afraid, or angry. Not a good combination.

The sounds of a small commotion carried down the tall walls of the street to him and Gabriel picked up his pace around the corner seeing a pair of Brass Blades harassing a young woman and two younger boys, probably no older than ten or twelve. The boys, for all of their small stature, were trying to move between the blades and the woman unsuccessfully. They were completely overwhelmed by the larger men.

Without even thinking, Gabriel summoned his topaz carbuncle motioned it after the two men. It barrelled towards them like a boulder down a mountain, knocking them over like a couple of ten pins. Several of the people in the area laughed at it, but the woman and boys were too terrified still. Gabriel moved forward quickly to impose himself between them.

“My apologies gentlemen!” He said putting on the loudest, thickest Limsan accent he could reasonably fake. “ ‘Ere, I though’ ye were a bunch o ruffan’s botherin’ this ‘ere nice lady an’ ‘er boys.” he pulled out a large sack of gil that hung on his belt. “Lemme make things righ’ and buy ye gentlemen some ale.” he said and tossed the bag towards the men, making it open up are large amount of gil into the street.

It was immediately swarmed upon by all those waiting on the sides and the two blades were lost in the throng. Gabriel moved back to the woman and the boys and guided them away, the carbuncle trailing after them with it’s tail held high and proud.

“Thank you sir,” the woman sobbed and Gabriel shook his head.

“Please, do not think anything of it,” he said back in his normal voice and pulled out a small bag of gil. “You won’t find much here, but if you are interested it would be enough for the three of you to travel to Limsa. There are many more jobs there, even for those as young as they are. It would give you a better chance than you would gain here in the middle of the desert.”  

Gabriel stood and patted one of the boys on the head before moving on towards the market. He sighed heavily, once there as he realized he’d given away most of his funds.

He really did dislike Ul’dah.

Under the cut, is a list of great, older, celeb fcs who I personally think deserve more attention and deserve to be rped more often as well as to be placed in the MW section of rps more often. And very sadly, most of them either have zero or very little resources, so I hope to help bring the rpc’s attention to all of these versatile and wonderful faces to increase a more varied & even more exciting diversity in roles, plots and character connections!
