Depot Avenue and the clouds approaching from the west

Many streetlights guard the road to the west of Depot Park. These lights are not run by the town, but sprites keep them lit in the dark.

The path to lava gnomes starts here and though it’s been a secret kept, some fear the start of war foretold once by the Train Giant as he slept.

While Porters neighbors have known peace, some clouds are growing in the west. Are they an omen?  Portent?  Sign? Or foes now here in cloud cloak dressed?

The weatherman can’t help us here. His 10-day cast can’t tell apart another Florida summer storm from creek crocottas at war’s start.

Gainesville Black Professionals Leadership Conference 2022

I had the opportunity to attend the annual Leadership Conference & Expo which was themed "Dismantling Racism...One 'Ism at a Time" hosted by realtor Craig Wilburn at Santa Fe College in Gainesville, Florida.

This annual conference presented by Gainesville Black Professionals is designed to encourage, support, inspire, and equip professionals to reach for leadership positions in their chosen industries. The conference speakers Dr. Kyla McMullen and Natalya Bannister were charged with challenging Racism from the concept that all 'Isms are detrimental to the individual on the receiving end of the discrimination.

This was my first time attending the conference and being able to hear from these phenomenal speakers. Virginia Grant and her Gainesville Black Professionals team did an amazing job putting this conference together!

The Murgle Ball at Lake Swan Park

The murgles had a meeting at the hall at Lake Swan Park A quite joyous occasion that lasted into the dark. If you’ve not seen a murgle, no surprise — they’re rare to see — They’re a little bit embarrassed around folks like you and me.

Unfamiliar humans might be repelled by their form. No, they don’t inspire horror, but their shape is not the norm. The sundry murgles include folks with extra arms or ears, Both large and tiny heads, eyes, hands, and funny-colored beards.

They’ve known distress, besides  — their town in Longleaf forest turf Is often struck by bog fiend hordes from Paines Prairie Preserve. For this they value life more, knowing no blessing’s too small, And have great celebrations like this one at Lake Swan’s hall.

So if you see a murgle, note they can be a great friend And maybe, like me, one day you’ll a murgle ball attend.
