A new month. Errands. Have to stretch my legs.

George Santos doesn't get the votes and is expelled. He leaves before Mike Johnson's gavel comes down. Followed by a herd of press people, he gets into a waiting black car. This, I'm thinking, may be one of his last limo rides on the government's dime.

I can't help thinking of a line from Spalding Gray's "Swimming to Cambodia." Spalding was in the "Cambodia" movie (small role) and during the filming was given first class treatment. When they no longer needed him he had to resign himself civilian life again. He writes: This is probably why Marylin Monroe killed herself. (Long story here...Spalding later killed himself...)

That dread feeling...when the show closes and the vicissitudes of life again close in. You're back on the street. Have experienced this many times.

We are not done with the fabluist George Santos. I think he will have a reality show and...isn't there a book coming out? He's not going away (for long). He'll turn up, like the proverbial bad penny.

The Spectrum music channel. Charles Munch conducting that arrangement (by Manuel Rosenthal) of Offenbach. "Gaite Parisienne." So, a conductor even as great as Munch had to do his share of schlock. Next comes Bartok "Music for Strings, Percussion and Celeste." Terrific piece. I remember some of it was heard in a lesser horror movie. Things were bad enough for Bartok (long story here). I'm sure its use was uncredited.

Later: On a whim Kenichi goes to the Jets game in New Jersey. Sits with his brother in law in the rain. Phones me. Tells me he is coming back into the city and has a layover. In a while he shows up (a bit wet and...quite predictably...the Jets lost). We order food and hang out. He naps a bit on the sofa. Always good to see him.

I have made it through another week.

Larsene, le magicien s’annonce à la Gaîté Montparnasse en mai

Larsene vient dévoiler son nouveau spectacle de magie et mentalisme au Théâtre de la Gaîté Montparnasse, du 16 au 28 mai 2023. Très attendu, celui que certains considèrent comme le meilleur magicien du moment, est à ne pas rater pour ses dates parisiennes.

arsene vaut le détour, il n'y en pas deux comme lui ! Le magicien est depuis longtemps passé maître en manipulation, au sens propre comme au figuré. Sa dextérité à faire virevolter les cartes et sa rapidité d’exécution sont remarquables. Son humour savamment dosé renforce le capital sympathie du personnage, qui reste élégant, en toute circonstance. Un spectacle qui promet d’être interactif et plein d’humour. Depuis plus de 20 ans, il a fait de la magie dite close up une de ses spécialités. Cette discipline consiste à réaliser des tours de cartes à quelques centimètres des spectateurs, au cours d’un diner ou d’un cocktail. L’exercice demande une très grande dextérité mais pas seulement. Le succès de l’animation est étroitement lié au charisme de l’artiste qui exécute le tour. Larsene séduit le public grâce à son humour, sa répartie et son élégance.

They get so much shit for being in a rock band and being ballet dancers at the same time. SO. MUCH. SHIT.

Brian is a little bit sad that he never got to study astrophysics but damn, the full ride to the Royal Ballet School was right there and so was the opportunity to be in Queen.

Roger, on the other hand, is just this tiny ball of anger and everyone can NOT believe that such a rough person can be one of the best dancers in the royal ballet.

Half of their time is spent on Queen and Half is spent on the ballet.

The academy is surprisingly encouraging of their little band and therefore they don’t have to deal with the enormous amount of shit they had to deal with in the main timeline.

However they do have to choose between the band and the ballet, and in the end they decide to stay until Freddie is at least 33. Long running career for all of them at the ballet, but enough time to make music.

The I Want to Break Free video? Fucking magnificent, they never actually stopped practicing, just preforming ballet.

But back to the main part, they become a world wide sensation, mainly because They are just THAT good.

I mean Anna Pavlova level of famous. Everyone who knows anything about dance knows them, and everyone who knows anything about music knows them.

Roger is a basic bitch, he loves Swan Lake.

Freddie is a SUCKER for the Nutcracker. That’s what The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke and My Fairy King are about... duh.

Brian is a Classic Bitch, He loves Romeo and Juliet. And he has been Romeo like five times.

John? He hates fucking normies. All his friends are idiots, he loves Gaite Parisienne and he will FIGHT anyone who says there is a single better ballet.

Anyway, they are really good fucking dancers, and really good fucking musicians. And I love them.

Low à la Gaîté Lyrique, vol à basse altitude

Le trio américain venait présenter son dernier album, « Double Negative », samedi 13 octobre à Paris. Un moment de grâce

Groupe aussi discret que sa musique, Low, trio formé par Alan Sparhawk (guitare et voix), Mimi Parker (batterie et voix) et Steve Garrington (basse) a gratifié la France d’un rare concert, samedi 13 octobre 2018 à la Gaîté Lyrique à Paris. On s’attendait à un aller simple dans la stratosphère, on n’est pas déçus du voyage.

En choisissant de s’éloigner légèrement des sombres tourments de son dernier album, Double Negative, Low a tout simplement fait décoller la salle parisienne et ses occupants pour un voyage sonore d’une rare densité. Mutiques hors chansons, les trois membres ont laissé le total champ libre à leur shoegaze orageux et plein de mélancolie, musique insaisissable qu’on jurerait avoir entendu au détour d’une scène cruciale de sa propre existence – un moment de romantisme éthéré, pudique, tout en retenue, et pourtant chargé d’une force physique, presque sensuelle, que de nombreux groupes rêveraient d’obtenir avec deux guitares et trois claviers supplémentaires.

Durant toute sa carrière, Low a choisi de faire profil bas, de ramener le rock à un dénominateur commun, en mettant de côté la folie caractéristique du genre (source de sa grandeur et de sa décadence). Si le résultat peut parfois paraître austère sur disque (particulièrement sur leurs morceaux les plus noise), il prend tout son sens en live, lorsque le groupe (suffisamment intelligent pour proposer une setlist plus lumineuse qu’imaginée) prend son envol pour ne jamais en redescendre – probablement un des choix motivant l’absence de dialogue, hormis un sporadique « thank you » lancé par Sparhawk en fin de concert.

Travel....Envy Due to a genetic disorder I arrived ridiculously early to await X's arrival !!. ...and while checking 'arrivals' I spied CASABLANCA....Casablanca! !!...How thrilling. One-day I'll just snap, buy a one-way ticket and scram. ...but as my inbox is crammed with overdue nonsense I chose the next best thing....go watch those deplaning. Off I sauntered to the doors (skirting the packed Starbucks--my current 'Paris Survival philosophy' having registered it as a likely terrorist target or--more logically. ...a place to be attacked by any number of customers disgusted with the prison swill 'coffee'...or putative 'Caesar' salad floating in pasta and a sea of lowest bidder mayo)-- But...back to casablanca!... ...So the doors open and a sleek, tanned couple oozes from the doorway decidedly not looking for friendly faces. They're feverishly checking their electronic's --clearly dumbfounded that earth failed to implode while they were not guiding it's safe passage thru the Straits Of Terrestrial Dangers...Rating: Boring. Next out a scraggily-clad 25 sometime minus any obvious jewellery...and one slim backpack slung 'desperado style' over the shoulder. He glides out...a zen-esque smile set halfway between 'attained inner peace' and 'Man I need a shower and a burger'. Rating: Good. we need to interview him later. Next up, what I'll call the Mysterious Ladies. They are both in the shallow end of the 40's pool. There's a look between them-- as if they've been sharing a private joke on an elevated frequency for years that mutts like moi will never register. Their effortless gaits, upscale clothes and toned frames suggest lives and folks I've only seen leaving a soiree as I've just blundered into it. Rating: Envious ..... ...x is landing.
