This is the beginning of the end, and this time we have a drastic shift from the previous two redesigns with like... and actual redesign of Water Hazard/orishan/Bivalvan- hmm... let's just call this Bivalvan because I've drawn him before :P
First of all- so many eyes. Clam eyes are so (relatively) freaky y'all, truly the 'people with blue eyes: *staring into your soul*' type energy, so of the 10 visible eyes, Bivalvan has an eye ring, an iris and a pupil :)
And what do I mean by only ten visible eyes, there's a lot more blue on this design than 10. That's because those aren't eyes, that's the colour of his flesh and thus, for every hole in the armour is a valve (hah!) for water flow and thus, breathing! Things like the muscles in the claws and hood and the foot visible between Bivalvan's legs and waist are for mobility, the tendons mainly for closing joints and creating a water tight seal, the foot for movement of the limbs.
Speaking of limbs, you can clearly see how different Bivalvan's legs are :) really putting in the cockroach of my personal biases. An orishan's hands are just claws akin to the ones that rest on their waist that rest inside the claw. And those claws are in fact water cannons :P

Ellen McLain’s commentary from my trivia playthrough
#She's so cute <3#WPP#Portal#Ellen McLain#If you haven't played through the audio commentary I would Absolutely recommend it it is So fun#I clicked out of curiosity - kind of just expecting like a movie's audio commentary y'know? Like a video that highlighted specific scenes#No it's just the whole game again but with trivia pop-ups! I love that!!#It reminded me so much of like trivia track or the pop up fun facts from special editions of movies I would watch as a kid#But you can play through them!! You have to click on them and they spin! I love that!!!#I always love hearing the design and development process - fascinating how the playtesters reacted to this new game!#We take it for granted now but yeah I imagine it would've been very confusing at the time#And I was like ''Well it was such a small team and Ms. McLain was such a large part of it - surely she'll have a few bubbles?''#She does lol - as soon as I got to her first one (it was a slow burn! They buried the lead with her lol I'm already invested!) I had to go#I saved-quit the game out of sheer excitement and giddiness lol I had to sleep on it before I was ready to come back#It is so cool to hear her natural voice ah <3 And the kinds of direction she was given! Other bubbles also talk about her vocal direction :)#Very cool! I wonder what TTS they used for reference :0#But to hear her real laugh without the audio processing over and and she still sounds like GLaDOS! I mean of course she does but just jfdksl#That's /her/ laugh! They share a laugh! It's a very similar laugh!!#Not to mention her talking about wanting to play and just fdskalfd they clearly did such a good job with her performance and ahhh#It's too cute it's all too cute sharing a room with GLaDOS while her voice actor talks about making a cake to share with her friends stopppp#I am so enamoured <3#I also took a bunch of screenshots of GLaDOS still shit-talking while she was being destroyed lol#Actually beat the ending in one try this time :P I ran out of time the last time pfft#But now I've beaten it twice in as many days :D Although I did start it the first time several days ago - but I beat it again quickly!#Has me all the more itching to replay 2 ♪#WPVG

I actually do like the trailer as a "meet the gang" trailer, I think it's fun and quirky in a good way. But it never should have been the launch trailer, and it was a massive marketing screw up to make it one

Rise Of The Rōnin Creators Talk Popular Samurai Media Like Shogun, Coincidental Timing, And Cats

Rise Of The Rōnin Creators Talk Popular Samurai Media Like Shogun, Coincidental Timing, And Cats
Tumblr media
With Rise of the Rōnin’s release, Team Ninja has added another strong action title into its vaunted portfolio. The samurai epic, which tells a fictional story within a historical Japanese period of revolution, is one of the studio’s most ambitious titles from both game design and story perspectives. We got the opportunity to sit down with producer Yosuke Hayashi and director Fumihiko Yasuda to probe into how Rise of the Rōnin got made.
One aspect of the game that sets it apart from other Team Ninja titles is the monsters or demonic enemies that pervade its other games are nowhere to be seen in Rise of the Rōnin. Being set against a historical backdrop, Rōnin is limited just to human enemies of various fighting styles.
[embedded content]
“This game is based in historical 19th century Japan,” Yasuda explains, “partly because we wanted to emphasize the bond system and the bonds that the player forms with historical figures that appear in the game. And for that reason, there are no supernatural elements. We also wanted to emphasize the dynamic between two samurai dueling each other by looking at their opponent, assessing what weapons and combat style the opponent is using, and adjust accordingly.”
The bonds system Yasuda mentioned has the main character gain affinity with a number of real-life historical figures, like Ryoma Sakamoto, a hero of Japan’s Bakamatsu era in the late 1800s. Hayashi explains why that era was a good fit for their latest game thematically, as well.
“The Bakumatsu period marked the end of the age of the samurai and the beginning of Japan’s modernization. Because of this, there were many ideals and value systems that were converging on at this moment in history. As our title focused on forming bonds with characters and making choices, we felt that this dynamic provided by this historical period was a good fit for the concept of the game.”
Tumblr media
The name Ryoma Sakamoto is likely familiar to those with knowledge of Japanese history, but also maybe to those who played 2023’s Like a Dragon: Ishin from Sega. That game also starred Ryoma Sakamoto during the same era, creating some unintentional crossover story between Team Ninja and RGG Studio’s games.
“Yeah, so the timing…there was quite a bit of overlap,” Hayashi says, laughing. “But you know, we saw that – but at the same time, we weren’t really surprised that Japanese developers would be releasing or remastering a game set in the same period as [Rise of the Rōnin]. It’s a very popular period in Japanese history.”
As Team Ninja’s first real open-world game, Rise of the Rōnin had quite a bit to prove for the developer. Hayashi and Yasuda indicated that the ambition was worth any trade-off, as they saw making an open-world game as a challenge the studio had to eventually rise to meet as a natural step. Doing all this while retaining the core of the action gameplay from its linear titles was an important obstacle for Team Ninja to surmount.
Tumblr media
Another challenge, Yasuda said, was making sure the cat animations in the game were accurate.
“I’m also a fan of cats. I own a cat myself and there are other members within our team that own cats and we’ve spoken with other media who have enjoyed that aspect of the game. And, of course, we were very particular about the movements that you know about cats in the animations. I wouldn’t say it was too difficult, but maybe we got a little too obsessed with it,” he admitted.
In a previous generation, Team Ninja found itself struggling with how to create action games for Japanese and Western audiences. While it is fairly recent, the TV show Shogun ended up exemplifying an answer for them.
Tumblr media
“Yeah, we are watching it,” both Hayashi and Yasuda said, with Hayashi continuing. “It’s really that the show has a lot of visuals that are very Japanese that reflects how a lot of the production involved in it was Japanese. I think there is some cultural crossover there just like I feel there was some crossover with our titles.”
And if you’re curious about what movies the pair recommend watching for your samurai fix?
“Yojimbo,” they both nodded, referring to the Akira Kurosawa classic about a Rōnin samurai being courted by two rival clans. “Rise of the Rōnin is really similar to it, actually.”

pokemon rant ahead bc im a born hater what can i say <3
playing scarlet and i just caught chien pao which i wanted on my team before id started playing and was just picking which pokemon i like best. the fucking?? running animation?? is fucked up?? there SEEMS to be a walking animation like it exists and i get a glimpse of it every now and then but it seems like it refuses to use anything but the running animation. so you cant reasonably walk beside the pokemon because its animation is freaking the fuck out, angles get fucky, the thing runs ahead of you, just bad. it's just i really wish that the follow mechanic wasn't dogshit, i want to stroll around with my pokemon not lagging behind. how come every other game can figure out a follow mechanic. how come modders can figure it out (there's maybe a chance the pokemon is stuck running because i caught it at a higher level than my current badges give me control over but idk if that's how the game works)
and another thing i noticed (that everyone else probably noticed bc this game has been out for a while lmfao but-) the entire world feels like it was MADE for exploration on koraidon. if we compare it to botw/totk, the terrain in those games doesnt feel like they were made for horseback exploration. there are so many huge wide expanses in scarlet that, the moment you get off your ride, you feel small and out of place. like there's absolutely no incentive to walk around on your own because everything is too far away to comfortably explore on your own (and also there's hardly anything TO explore. everywhere is empty and boring and repeating). botw does not suffer from this at all, all the environments feel realistic in scale. and i wish if the game were more focused on the horseback (pokemonback?) exploration that there was more fidelity to koraidon's animations and mechanics. I believe it's called procedural animation, the ability for a model to react to the environment it's in (ei, when link is on a slope, his leg will bend and his foot will rest realistically on an incline, same goes for horses in botw when theyre on inclines. these are calculations the game makes in the moment of execution, not rendered out during development accounting for every possible position a player could be on a slope). i feel like this should happen with koraidon at the least, if you're going to be on it for the majority of the game.
and don't get me STARTED on how absolutely stupid it is for so many pokemon to be as small as they are. constantly tripping on a 2 centimeter tall pokemon that i didn't see and initiating a battle gets really fucking old. from purely a game design standpoint, for one of the first games in the series to feature pokemon walking around in the overworld, youd THINK they'd somehow incorporate more accessibility for being able to SEE these fucking things, but no. the camera is far from the player (i play with the camera as close as possible, i know it's adjustable) and the grass that's fucking everywhere is taller than a lot of pokemon. also the shiny issue. how the pokemon from this gen have a lot of MINUTE differences in their shiny palette that make shiny hunting more of an eye-strain simulator than anything.
and i know that there are a lot of pokemon in these games meaning a lot of assets meaning a lot of space thats dedicated just to make creatures appear. i know all of that takes away from the space needed to make animations or appealing scenery or really just a substantial game. but remember when they said theyd limit the pokedex so that they could make sure the pokemon they DO include have higher quality models and animations? and remember how they never actually did any of that. (changing the rendering engine and the textures is NOT higher quality anything. and if you think it is, how come the textures on hills FUCKING SHIFT AS YOU WALK PAST THEM? THATS A LOWER QUALITY ENGINE!!! THAN WHATEVER THEY USED BEFORE!!!)
i'm just saying that i really wouldnt mind if they HUGELY limited the pokedex IF IT MEANT that we could get cutscenes with unique animations and effects. get rid of a few hundred pokemon if it means the overworld is decorated with more than a dozen repeating assets that make it difficult to tell where the hell i am without looking at the map. maybe i want to see big wind turbines in the background move at more than 2 frames per second! why is the largest landmark in the area moving at 2 frames per second?! bad!!! ugh.
i think all the issues i have with this game are reasonable grievances for a game that costs 60 fucking dollars. i dont want to hear a single "it's just a kids game!" it was 60 fucking dollars. +dlc +online subscription
theres lots more i can say but this is just what's really bothering me right now hahasdfk

Dev Diary: Game Dev -Day 1
November 29, 2023
Last Saturday, I found probably the best online training program I have ever seen. It is so well put together and informative. This was, of course, the Unity Learn Programs! (Not Sponsored, Obviously!)
Unity is a real-time engine (or a game engine for game makers). And is a piece to game making that has had me overwhelmed up until now. It's so big and open that I didn't know where to even start with learning. I have seen courses for beginners listed on other learning platforms, but I hadn't personally found any that I jived with.
Unity Learn is their very own learning platform and has the best online learning experience I have ever seen! I started Dev Diary back in May when I was learning on LinkedIn Learning. It was a bit of a mess. This one has none of the chaos of the previous experience. Everything was streamlined and in order.
The only real issues I've had, were my own misunderstandings and fixed when I calmed myself down. 😅😂
I finished the Unity Essentials and now I'm working toward both Creative Core and Junior Programmer. They have so many after these that I want to take as well.
Today I'm starting to learn about Shaders and Materials in game dev and I'm excited. I don't get to do too much as my "misunderstandings" today did cost me a couple of hours. I took a shower and then everything worked... the human mind is weird.
Each of the courses that I'm in now have around 45-50 hours in them. As I don't currently have any other major obligations, I'm planning on going for about 3-4 weeks total, but I'm not being too strict with it.
Last time I overwhelmed myself with how much I took on. This time I'm allowing myself a bit of a cushion to get them done as it isn't timed by the month as LinkedIn Learning was.
Oh, did I mention that Unity Learn is 100% Free!!!
My Plan (so far anyway)
Weeks 1-2:
Learning Unity and getting lots of experience making little things
C# and the basics of coding in Unity
Weeks 3-4:
Design my own Game (I am determined to start small! 😋)
Practicing building smaller sections of my game...aka, the ugly stage
Finishing any training left
Tomorrow will be working on Shaders and Materials and maybe some of the beginners lessons for Junior Programming. I do have appointments tomorrow, so its just gonna be whatever I get done. 🥰
I have been looking for these course what feels like an eternity (roughly 1 year) and I'm so excited to see how quickly it all starts coming together!!!
Let's Make Games!!!

How I sleep knowing Aloy is a lesbian and HZ3 will not have dating sim-like romance options
Tumblr media
#if im wrong ill eat this post or whatever ig#i just think just bc games like ME and BG give branching romance pathways doesnt mean every rpg needs to...#especially as those games have a strong focus on player choice embedded in their design philosophy#and horizon has always been very much a linear story. its just open world#and aloys journey as a character and her relationships? also linear and predetermined. comeon#also unlike bioware and bg3 in horizon games you are not creating a player character. you are not projecting yourself you are empathising#i think it would be veery weird and out of place for guerrila to suddenly include a romace choice mechanic#even the way they allowed the player to choose not to kiss seyka in the dlc was a bit of a cop out i personally think#bc despite it being rather inconsequential and not negating the relationship they had developed nonetheless#it gives people a window to b like. heres how aloy x avad can still win jfhjdn#and outside fandom shipping spaces and in the real world. it gives just enough space for the cognitive dissonance#of ignoring aloys sexuality completely#they might still do it in the next game. or relegate a romantic storyline to a sidequest. which is FINE i guess#like of course i think it should be 70 hours of undeniable unskippable dykery. but realistically i just hope for hashtag gayloy confirmed <#this got away from me but bottom line i just think shipping has poisoned peoples brains and i hate it in this fandom especially

Tumblr media
Game development has never been more accessible, and Godot Engine stands at the forefront of this revolution. This powerful, open-source game engine has captured the hearts of indie developers and hobbyists worldwide, offering an intuitive pathway into the exciting world of 2D game creation.
Why Choose Godot for 2D Game Development?
Godot's lightweight architecture makes it perfect for 2D game development. Unlike heavyweight engines that can overwhelm beginners, Godot provides a clean, streamlined interface that focuses on what matters most: bringing your creative vision to life. The engine's node-based scene system mirrors how we naturally think about game objects, making it incredibly intuitive for newcomers.
The engine's GDScript language, designed specifically for game development, offers Python-like syntax that's both powerful and beginner-friendly. You can prototype ideas quickly, iterate rapidly, and build complex gameplay mechanics without getting bogged down in verbose code structures.
Essential 2D Game Design Concepts
Successful 2D games start with solid foundational concepts. Sprite management forms the backbone of visual presentation – understanding how to efficiently handle animations, sprite sheets, and visual effects can make or break your game's performance and appeal.
Physics simulation brings your game world to life. Godot's built-in physics engine handles collision detection, rigid body dynamics, and kinematic movement with minimal setup. Whether you're creating a platformer with precise jumping mechanics or a puzzle game with falling objects, mastering these systems opens up endless possibilities.
Level design deserves special attention in 2D games. Godot's tilemap system allows you to create expansive, detailed environments efficiently. Combined with the engine's layering capabilities, you can build rich, multi-dimensional worlds that feel alive and engaging.
Building Player Engagement
The most technically perfect game falls flat without engaging gameplay. Focus on creating tight, responsive controls that feel natural and satisfying. Godot's input handling system makes it easy to implement smooth character movement, whether you're building a fast-paced action game or a methodical puzzle solver.
Visual polish elevates good games to great ones. Godot's animation system supports both traditional frame-by-frame animation and modern tween-based motion. Particle effects, screen transitions, and UI animations contribute to the overall player experience, making your game feel professional and polished.
From Concept to Completion
Starting your first 2D game project can feel overwhelming, but breaking it down into manageable phases makes the journey enjoyable. Begin with a simple concept – perhaps a basic platformer or top-down adventure. Focus on core mechanics first, then gradually add features and polish.
Godot's export system makes sharing your creations effortless. With built-in support for multiple platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, and mobile devices, your games can reach audiences everywhere.
The thriving Godot community provides endless resources, tutorials, and support. Whether you're troubleshooting a tricky bug or seeking creative inspiration, fellow developers are always ready to help.
Game development with Godot transforms creative ideas into interactive experiences. With dedication, practice, and the right tools, anyone can create engaging 2D games that captivate players and bring imaginative worlds to life.
How Expert-Led Online Courses Are Revolutionizing Career Development in 2025
The traditional career ladder has been replaced by a career lattice—a complex web of opportunities that requires continuous learning and skill adaptation. In this new landscape, expert-led online courses have emerged as the most powerful tool for career transformation, offering professionals the flexibility and expertise they need to stay competitive.
The Shift from Credentials to Competencies
Gone are the days when a single degree could guarantee career success for decades. Today's employers prioritize demonstrable skills over formal qualifications. This shift has created unprecedented opportunities for professionals willing to invest in targeted learning experiences.
Expert-led courses bridge the gap between academic theory and real-world application. Unlike traditional education, these programs are designed by industry practitioners who understand current market demands. Students learn not just what to do, but how successful professionals actually approach challenges in their daily work.
Why Expert Instruction Makes the Difference
The quality of instruction fundamentally determines learning outcomes. Expert instructors bring three critical advantages that generic online content cannot match:
Real-World Experience: Industry experts share case studies, failures, and successes from their own careers. This contextual learning helps students understand not just the "how" but the "why" behind professional decisions.
Current Market Insights: Experts stay connected to industry trends and emerging opportunities. Their courses reflect the latest tools, techniques, and market demands, ensuring students learn relevant, immediately applicable skills.
Professional Networks: Learning from recognized experts often provides access to valuable professional networks. Many successful career transitions happen through connections made during expert-led programs.
The Flexibility Advantage
Traditional career development often required sabbaticals, relocations, or significant time away from work. Expert-led online courses eliminate these barriers by offering:
Self-Paced Learning: Professionals can balance education with existing responsibilities, learning during commutes, lunc

What Can You Do with Game Design Courses? - United Institute of Design
Tumblr media
Video games are not just a form of entertainment anymore - they are a global industry that combines art, technology, storytelling, and invention. Video games are everywhere, from smartphones to consoles and also in the form of virtual reality headsets and there is a huge demand for skilled individuals who can create games. If you are thinking of a career that combines both creativity and technology, taking game design courses might be your first step.
So, what can you actually do with a bachelor of game design? Let's look at some of the exciting things that a pathway with a graduate in game design can do.
Understanding Game Design: More Than Just Playing Games
Game design involves the task of conceiving, creating, and refining the rules, structure, and experience of a game. While gamers get to enjoy the end product, there is a lot of tedious work involved, including world-building, character design, code implementation, and sound integration.
Game design courses provide students with an understanding of how to balance creativity with realism, the imagination that goes into designing levels that will attract a player and the methods various humans use to react while playing. You will learn to use industry-standard applications such as Unity, Unreal Engine, Blender, and Maya.
At UID, the B.Design (Hons.) in Animation & Game Design program consistently creates learning opportunities that instill technical skill as well as innovative thinking in gameplay, storytelling, and immersive design.
Career Opportunities After Game Design Courses
A bachelor of game design opens the door to many exciting and dynamic roles in the gaming industry and beyond. Here's what you can do after completing your course:
1. Game Designer
This is one of the most sought-after careers available. Game designers establish the baseline for the game: rules, challenges, the environment, levels, and how players advance through the game. Designers would generally work with artists, programmers and producers to create the game.
Key skills: storytelling, level design, logic, and user engagement.
2. Game Developer / Programmer
If you enjoy coding, and want to make ideas into playable games, then you may want to think about being a game developer. Developers write the code that makes the game run in the way the designer wants it to work. Developers may code to a platform (mobile, console or PC) or code to a game engine (Unity, Unreal, etc.).
Key skills: C++, C#, JavaScript, debugging, and physics simulations.
3. Level Designer
The level designer builds the individual levels, missions, or stages of the game. Level designers use their creativity and strategic thinking to build balanced, fun experiences for players.
Key skills: spatial thinking, user flow, and scripting.
4. Game Artist / Animator
Designers will design the visual graphic style of the game, which involves the characters, environments, objects, and effects in the game. A majority of the work includes modeling, animation, and texturing which will occur primarily in 3D game development.
Key skills: 2D/3D design, modeling, rigging, character animation.
5. Game Tester / QA Analyst
Game testers play new games to discover bugs or glitches that developers must overcome. They will also find balance issues in new games, which get fixed based on tester feedback as a game gets polished by the developers.
Key skills: attention to detail, problem-solving, written communication.
6. Narrative Designer / Script Writer
In story-based games, the narrative designer will be the person responsible for implementing the game's story, dialogues, and world-building into the game. For story-based games, the narrative designer's task is to make the narrative flow naturally through what the player does in the game.
Key skills: writing, character development, storytelling mechanics.
7. UI/UX Designer (Game Interfaces)
User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX) designers guarantee that players enjoyably and easily maneuver menus, controls, and systems in casual and complex games alike. With an unsuspecting amount of responsibility, UI/UX designers play a crucial role in the design process.
Key skills: wireframing, prototyping, user testing, visual design.
8. Sound Designer / Composer
Sound is the third tool of fascinating abilities in game design collaboration, alongside graphics and gameplay. Sound designers create sound effects, ambient sounds, and music that can elevate the gaming experience.
Key skills: audio editing, composition, mixing, game audio engines.
Beyond Gaming: Expanding Opportunities
With a bachelor of game design, you're not limited to the gaming industry alone. Game design skills are transferable to other sectors like:
AR/VR Development: Used in education, medicine, and training simulations.
Film & Animation Studios: Especially for VFX and interactive storytelling.
Advertising & Marketing: Gamified apps and immersive brand experiences.
Education Tech: Interactive learning tools and educational games.
Simulation and Training: For aviation, military, healthcare, and industrial use.
Why Choose UID for Game Design Courses?
At UID, game design courses are part of the well-rounded B.Design (Hons.) in Animation & Game Design program. UID offers the perfect environment to learn, experiment, and grow as a designer.
Here’s what makes UID stand out:
