Game Dev/Design Free Courses!!!!
I have been looking for courses that help guide through the beginning stages of actually building a game in an Engine.
A Random tiktok video showed me Unity Learn, this isn't sponsored (obv) but it has been so helpful. I already feel more at ease inside Unity and I have barely started the courses.
It's also 100% free!!!
It shows you every piece of info, down to downloading Unity itself and all of the other things you need!
Truly so helpful!
Unity is also used for more than just Game Dev, it's used in Architecture, Automotive design and many others. Highly recommend checking it out if you are interested!

How To Network ๐Ÿค๐Ÿ“ฑ๐Ÿ’ฌ
Have a Plan: Because everyone is important, it's really important to know what you're good at. Before you go to any networking event, figure out what you're good at โ€“ like things you can do well, what you know, and the people you know. Plan what you want to talk about, especially how you can help others, either now or later on.
Start with Who You Know: Talk to people you already know, like friends and colleagues. Ask if they can introduce you to others.
Go to Events: Attend conferences, seminars, workshops, industry meetups, and social gatherings related to your field of interest.
Use Social Media: Make profiles on websites like LinkedIn or Instagram to meet people in your niche online.
Elevator Pitch: Create a concise and engaging intro that highlights who you are, what you do, and what you're seeking. This way you can make a strong first impression.
Ask Good Questions: When you talk to someone, ask questions that show you're interested in what they're saying.
Provide Value: Networking is a two-way street. Offer your expertise, assistance, or connections to others whenever possible. When you start paying attention to what people can do, you might see that one person could help another person. Try to introduce people who you think have something valuable to share. When you make these good connections, you're helping the networking event go well. This will help you establish a good reputation and create strong relationships.
Say Thank You: After meeting, send a message to say you enjoyed the talk.
Follow up & Follow Through: If you said you would talk to someone later, make sure you actually do it and let them know you're still happy to help. If you promised to introduce one person to another, take a moment to make that introduction. These small things really matter to people, and just one introduction could make someone's life better.
Meet Different People: Don't just talk to the same kind of people. Meet people from different jobs and places.
Never dismiss anyone as unimportant: Don't think someone is not important just because of their job title. They could know important things or have helpful friends you wouldn't know about if you didn't give them a chance.
Join Groups: Be part of clubs or groups related to your work. You can meet more people there.
Be Yourself: Just be you. Don't pretend to be someone else.
Learn New Things: Keep learning about your interests. It helps you have better conversations.

http://www.anniesdandyblog.com/2009/03/york-university-speech.html
Anne Abbott, a nonspeaking person with cerebral palsy who uses a low-tech board to communicate , gave a speech to York University. She talks about how much we are at risk of having our communication took from us and gives advice for communicating with AAC users.
It was only when I started to venture out into the public on my own that I started having problems with communication. Some people were okay; they were patient enough to try to figure out what I was saying. However, there were others that just didn't get me. Right in front of me, I would hear them say things like, โ€œShould she be alone?โ€ I would point to words and letters on my communication board, and much to my annoyance I would hear people saying, โ€œWhat do you think she wants?โ€ From these kinds of experiences, I learned two things: one, to be patient with people who are actually trying to communicate with me; and two, if people don't understand what I'm all about, and they show me very little respect, I simply leave.
Unfortunately, there are times when a person like me can't just leave. People like me, who use Augmentative Alternative Communication, are frequently, and wrongly, silenced. Because of a lack of patience and understanding, or perhaps even a fear that they'll look ridiculous if they can't figure out what an AAC User is trying to say, people will often take away the person's Communication Device. This happens within the homes of AAC Users, where there is on-site attendant care. It can also happen if AAC Users are still living with their families, and unfortunately, it can often happen in hospitals or in nursing homes as well.
It takes patience and some intuition to start communicating with an AAC user. You have to be good at looking for cues in body language and facial expressions. This is not to say, however, that you're supposed to be a mind-reader. Make sure 100 percent that you got the message from the AAC user absolutely right before continuing the conversation. Use 'yes' and 'no' to confirm that you understood what they said. Also, some AAC users have different signs for 'yes' and 'no,' so make sure you know what they are beforehand.

Dev Diaries: Day 9- Setting a good base!
Dev Diaries, Masterlist
June 5, 2023
Okie dokie!
Today, my goal is to finish up the UX Prototyping course. It's a bit boring because I'm not planning on using these programs myself. I want a good understanding of the basics of most programs though. It's probably a โœจsparkle worry โœจ issue, but hey. I did see a lot of posts and content by UX designers saying that they wish they knew more programs. It makes sense to me, but I love learning. ๐Ÿ˜‹
I'll probably get in a HMTL and/or CSS course today. I did the math...it's about 40+ hours of video time between the two courses. That's a lot. I want to make sure I really absorb it so I'm gonna take a bit longer. I don't plan on finishing them this week, that is for sure. I'm going for balance this month, no cramming! ๐Ÿ˜…๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ๏ฟฝ
I am going to start my first portfolio project today!!! I don't know which one I'm gonna do yet, but I'm gonna do it! I'll probably find a challenge somewhere first, maybe. Even if it doesn't make it to my portfolio, it will be good practice. I have a project of sorts that I was working on, but I'm not sure it would work for this. It will take awhile to get done though, so I'll be doing it along with the other projects.
The AI got to me!
So, you know how I said I was gonna get seduced by the AI dev classes... They found me, and I think I'm a goner. ๐Ÿ˜‹๐Ÿ˜ I wanna take courses that discuss it but don't cover any coding yet. Like I said yesterday, I need to know what it's gonna do before I learn how.
I'm also looking at Learning Experience Design. This is something I've always been interested. Might as well take a course on it while it's available. Try it on for size, if you will...
P.S. I'm not sure I like having a list of things I'm "supposed" to do each day. I have tried it a couple times and it feels like a demand (no bueno) and I have more fun when it's just written about instead...๐Ÿ˜Š
I have a list of things I wanna get done eventually and that tend to work better. Making a daily list just adds too much to do. Little lists tend to turn into big lists no matter what I do. If I make something bite size, I just take bigger bites...
Here's to code snacking! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿฅฐ

Linix-Unix-BSD Laptop Journey~~ (and some questions again)
yet another question~~ tho up to my own musings and uncertainty at this point~~
I'm too afraid to try to install FreeBSD cause I'm worried I won't be able to dig up some needed internet info and that makes me feel dumb~~ is the Domain Name not the Hostname or name of the wifi? or would it be my ISP's website or something?
I like tech but not knowing this makes me feel stupid lol even though I'm probably not~~~ and that's just anxiety lying to me~~~
also is there any point in moving from Linux Mint Debian Edition 6 to Debian 11 disks that I have burned?
the only one with the zoom feature (unless I install something if I can find it) is the Cinnamon Desktop, and at that point I see no point on dropping Mint for pure Debian in that case....
need accessibility for my blind butt (despite also being stubborn and not using it half the time anyway lol)
ALSO none of the debian live CDs that I tried saw my WIFI and idk why~~ and they're all debian 11...
might need to download newer versions and burn them to disk I guess~~
or maybe if I installed one of them anyway, and actually hooked it to ethernet, then installed updates whether it would see my wifi then? idk
found a distro that doesn't use SystemD called PCLinuxOS and thought about giving that a try, but idk if it's good for someone like me, but I got a handle sort of on fedora back in the day.
So currently stuck on linux mint debian edition cause I'm afraid to give freebsd a try due to maybe not having the network information requited and idk where to find it~~ and cause debian just straight up wouldn't see my wifi~~ tho I've also said before in this post that idk if it's a good idea or not to go from linux mint debian, to straight debian.... cause I'm going to be stuck with the Cinnamon desktop anyway~~
like yesterday I spent all morning booting into all the debian live CDs that I had; except for the standard which I think is GNOME, and none of them could even SEE my wifi or ANY wifi
now I hate that I seem like the person that just wants things to work instead of tinker w stuff to get it to work, cause that's part of the fun and frustration of being on linux I suppose~~~ and I really hope I'm smart enough to figure stuff out~~
would be happy to eventually jump to a more unix like OS cause I believe the backbone of the internet is UNIX anyway~~ :)
I like to think I'm a nerd and a techie but at the same time think I'm stupid and don't know anything~~ if I'm being brutally honest w myself~~ but I guess you got to be feeling stupid to learn huh?
tldr; and making the questions more easily found~~ my journey through linux/bsd computer systems so far, and where I'm at....
Is it worth it to install pure debian if I'm already using linux mint debian (and the wifi actually works), should I get away from SystemD and try to install PCLinuxOS? or FreeBSD? am I smart enough to install FreeBSD? What network information do I need and where can I find it?
and yet another random question at the bottom cause I remembered a linux youtube channel where they talked about a bunch of stuff way back in the 2010s I think called "Jupiter Broadcasting" what happened to them?
wanted to go eventually to FreeBSD cause it's more unix like than linux, and i think more cohesive as a whole as opposed to bits and pieces mossaic'd together in linux.... also if it is more unix based, unix as far as I'm aware is the backbone of the internet if I'm remembering correctly~~ and I'd be happy to use it~~~
so idk what I'm doing~~ lol, stay on linux mint debian cause it works? try to get FreeBSD installed, try to find out how to fix debian not seeing my WIFI (I'd hoped that if I installed it and connected it to ethernet that updates would fix that), or install PCLinuxOS that I found? cause it looks neat~~~
more history about myself~~ as dumb as it sounds, or maybe not, my dad was into tech, he'd built his first computer and if it wasn't for him pirating some version of windows, we never would've had it, lol. but ye he was a techie, and he showed me the 1995 movie "hackers". I watched that on repeat through my teenage years for some reason~~ the music was good, and now I learnt that that's not actually bow hacking works, lol it's a cheesy film.... but that sparked an interest in technology and eventually led me to finding linux to begin with. and Unix~~ cause I thought it was something that my dad and I could do together~~~ but we never did...... but the techie interest stuck~~~~ I need to rewatch that film and find the soundtrack CDs I have~~~ been a while~~~~
second guessing it am I even smart enough to run anything other than linux mint anyway? probably yes but I doubt my own intelligence, lol. especially I think anyone irl I've shown my writing to or talked to say that I'm "smart as a whip" but I don't see it.... :(
