This has really been a ‘treat yourself to FF9 merch’ kind of year!!

I didn’t own most of these things before this year. My collection began with the original PAL game and the strategy guide as a child. I even kept all the old ‘cheat’ sheets I’d written!

My first personal FFIX purchase was the Play Arts Garnet figure. I found it at my local Gametraders for $40, and I just couldn’t have her without Zidane, so I found him on eBay for a reasonable price in 2015. I also went to Japan in 2015, but the only FF9 merch I could find was my Zidane keyring from the Square Enix Artnia Cafe.

All the other purchases are from this year - I went a little crazy! I started with the Ultimania Archive which I’d had my eye on for a long time, as well as the music box - both purchased from Critical Hit. I absolutely love the music box!

My next purchase is unofficial merchandise - an art book from 'Debo' on Pixiv. I just adore their illustrations and I wish I had the whole set!

The hardest item to get was the Zidane and Garnet Bring Arts figures - I had to order it off the European Square Enix store and then use a third party shipping service to get it to me, but overall it was still a comparable price when looking at eBay prices. I love them! My inner child would have loved the whole set and played with them to death!

Next was perhaps the most special purchase - the Banpresto Diorama Zidane and Garnet figure! I got the last one from a seller who said it wouldn't come in the box, which was fine by me - imagine my surprise when it came in a brand new sealed box! I'm so lucky!

Finally, I pre-ordered my beloved Vivi doll from EB Games!

I absolutely adore my FF9 collection! I don't buy things for myself often, but I've been working hard in my career for many years and investing in important things in my life - so these treats are well deserved and will be treasured forever. I can't wait to perhaps add a Final Fantasy IX remake to this collection one day?

I saw you mention release delays for Europe for EX7 and the two new decks. My local store is in the US and was told their shipment is delayed to Sept 20th. Have you seen any other reports of that? 

If your local store buys from any of the involved European distributors, that could explain the delayed release. The same delay is happening with the current One Piece TCG products, so I assume it's from Bandai's production.

There's two tweets on the english Twitter mentioning this, the first one is newer, so I assume it's the current status

The Mighty & Magical meeting of the minds.

Just a quick entry to make mention of the meetup and subsequent trade between Shayne and I.  He has been probably my longest and best bartering buddy since I started networking to find games for my collection.  To date I have traded for or purchased almost 60 games from him.  If I ever complete my collection I know I owe a huge debt to him as he is the reason for some of the really hard to find games I now own.  

The acquisition of Might & Magic is no exception and I have a malfunction of his collection tracker to thank for this one as he ended up purchasing a double of this game.  I haven’t seen this one in the wild even once and here he was, a mere block away, with 2 near mint copies in his possession. 

During a routine check on the latest Facebook Marketplace posts for my area I came upon a collage picturing about 60-70 games for sale and along the bottom of the picture one particular cartridge cried out to me.  Fast forward two days and I traded some of my doubles off for this uncommon gem of a dungeon crawler.   

I also picked up (free of charge) a 52-in-1 multicart that he couldn’t get to work on any system he tried it on.  Even though it is a pirated cartridge I have never known these wonderful chunks of plastic to be anything short of bulletproof so I have faith that I will get this game to work with a little bit of cleaning and some elbow grease.  I haven’t really had a chance to delve into the titles that are on it but the original Goonies (which was only released overseas) is one of the selections.  We got a sequel game called Goonies 2 which is very similar in terms of mechanics.

Vi has been observing the strange hylian who looks remarkable like the violet hero of his world though has a child like personality/outlook on life kind like the red one, shifting on the branch his perched himself on the shade contemplates if he should interact with them or not.

“Could be a trick....or not? Maybe a new dopple to kill me?” He mutters to himself

After awhile this Vio had grabbed a frog ran over excitedly to someone. His voice was distinctly that of the violet hero. However it sounded childish and not the typical monotone.

"Vaa! Look look! A kitty!!" Definitely more childish. Though whoever he was beside said something and Vio seemed confused. "No.... It's a kitty... Fur? What's fur"

Seeing Double

A few weeks back I got a message from one of my game traders that he had found not one but two copies of Battletoads and Double Dragon in as many weeks.  I was dumbfounded.  I spent probably 3 years going to the Flea Market in my area, every Sunday, looking for games and never once saw that title. 

Times past if he had found a game I didn’t have he would give me the first crack at it but lately he has been hanging onto games and building his own collection (for which I don’t begrudge him one bit).   I may not be directly responsible for his sudden interest in collecting these games himself but I’m certain that after he reflected on how many games he has helped me acquire he came to the conclusion that he would have had quite a decent collection by now too.  Perhaps testing all of the games before putting them for sale has made him nostalgic for these games and that time when they were all the rage.  

Whatever the reason, the calls from him had become fewer and farther between.  I suppose this is why it is so great when I do get a message regarding a game trade.  His original correspondence from the middle of last month consisted of him offering the game to me for a set price. At the time I didn’t have any expendable income for it nor did I have enough games to offer a partial trade that would be worthwhile for him.  Fast forward a few weeks and I had added a few more doubles to my coffers (mostly through acquiring some complete in box games) and all of a sudden I had several titles with resale potential.  

This morning I took a basket of games over to his house and he fished out about the same amount of trade value as what the game would have fetched on its own.  I really love making trades and despite the sheer number of games swapped between us being clearly in his favor the fact that I was able to knock an uncommon game like Battle Toads and Double Dragon off my list made it a win in my book.  When I liquidate doubles I feel like I got the new game for next to nothing because the doubles constitute other trades from months gone by, label replacements, donations from friends and lot deals I couldn’t pass up.  

Late release titles (this one came out in 1993 near the end of the Nintendo Entertainment System’s reign) are some of the most highly sought after (as well as groundbreaking) games by virtue of them being produced in much smaller quantities yet, at the same time, pushing the limits of the system’s hardware.  By the time the early 1990s had rolled around game makers were extremely agile at programming and utilizing every bit of memory that the NES afforded its game developers. Cartridges from this era certainly pushed the boundaries of what could be done with this little 8-bit wonder.

As you can see from the photos the game is in near mint condition and a welcome addition to my collection. The label has no peel and the colors are bright and vibrant.  

I will “double down” and say that this pickup is the highlight of 2018 thus far! I am closing in on 600 licensed games and this one totals 656 in the collection.
