#DailyDevotion We Have A Better City Coming
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion We Have A Better City Coming Heb. 13 14You see, we don't have a permanent city here but look for the one that's coming. 15Through Jesus let us always bring to God a sacrifice of praise, that is, the fruit of our lips, praising His name. 16And don't forget to do good and to share; such sacrifices please God. So this comes after being told to suffer with Jesus outside the camp. Suffering outside the camp is to be rejected by one's people. It is to be excommunicated. It is to be rejected. So should be encouraged, having been rejected by the world that we don't have a permanent city here. This is not our home. We are strangers here, aliens, and foreigners. Since this is the case, we need not form attachments to the things of this world. Instead, our attachment is to the permanent city, the one that is coming, the New Jerusalem mentioned earlier in chapter eleven. We are looking forward to the place Jesus went to prepare for us to be with Him forever. (John 14) Revelation speaks of it in chapter 21, "Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, because the first heaven and the first earth had passed away. And there was no longer any sea. 2And I saw the holy city, New Jerusalem, coming down from God in heaven, dressed as a bride, ready to meet her husband. 3And I heard a loud voice from the throne say: 'Look! God's home is among the people, and He will live with them. They will be His people, and God Himself will be with them. 4He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death, and there will be no more grief or crying or pain, because the first things have passed away.'” Through faith in Jesus and in Jesus' name, we are then to bring our God a sacrifice of praise with our lips and praising His name. Our hymnals are good for this. They have plenty of hymns telling us and the world what our God has done for us in Christ Jesus. Praising God is more than saying hallelujah—that is an invitation to praise God. Praising God is telling what God has done for us, is doing for us and will do for us. Our praise covers God creating everything, creating us, promising to redeem us, making a plan through Abraham and his descendants, culminating in the promised seed Jesus Christ. It covers sending the Holy Spirit who calls men to share the good news and administering the sacraments so we may come to faith and receive the salvation He has prepared for us. Though we are saved only by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ, such faith calls us to do good to everyone, especially those of the household of faith. We are not called to sit on our hands but to be diligent in good works. Those would be the positive aspects of keeping the commandments, preserving life, promoting chastity and fidelity, providing for others, and upholding the truth. Since we know the great rewards God has planned for us and how the wealth of this world is perishing, we should be eager to share what goods God has blessed us with. We should not hoard worrying about the future. Today is all we ever have. God will provide us what we need. Opening our hands to the poor and what God has done for us—opened up His hand to us. As His children, we are called to be like Him. These are sacrifices that are pleasing to God. They are thanksgiving sacrifices. They are sacrifices of trust in God's promise of rewards to come that are permanent, which rust can't destroy, moths can't eat, and no man can steal from us. This should encourage us to share all the more. Heavenly Father, in this life, help us to keep our eyes fixed on the promised permanent city to come, so we may live lives pleasing to You here below. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article

#lovegod #love people #love #goodworks I made a commitment in my heart to love and serve them; because they are the family God has called me to, I decided to be a blessing to them. I do this not because I want to earn God's love, but because knowing He has first loved me enables me to love other--loving others is an expression of my love for Him (1 John 4:19-21). I don't always do this perfectly, but this is something I have committed to grow in. I'm understanding more and more that going to church and cell group gives us an opportunity to grasp the greatness of God's love for us and to mature in our unity and love for one another (Ephesians 4:1-6). But I've learned through firsthand experience that it is possible to go to church and not grow in one's relationship with God and with people. Therefore, rather than merely committing to go to church, let us remember that we are the church. This paradigm enables me to be a blessing to others with a joyful heart. As Jesus Himself said, "It is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). I am blessed by giving to others as well.-Raphael Zang #give #encourage https://www.instagram.com/p/CoBAlrPOMgZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

In the iconic movie The Godfather, 'The Don' utters the infamous line “I’m going to make him an offer he can’t refuse.’ This could mean that the fellow HAD to do it (or it was 'curtains' for him!) OR he’d give this man something so valuable he just couldn’t turn it down.
However, God’s proposition is the Exact Opposite.
While The Godfather’s offer is something you CAN’T refuse, God’s offer is something you CAN refuse that will mean that it WILL be 'curtains' for you, and you’ll be forfeiting something extremely valuable that you’ll eternally regret.
You see, salvation from this world into eternity is simply a matter of saying YES to God and NO to death, yet despite this great deal, many (maybe you?) see no value in this offer…and refuse it.
Friend, don’t miss out on the greatest offer you’ll ever get. God’s plan of salvation is a no-cost, no-risk guaranteed gift. Say yes to this OFFER — And Do NOT Refuse It!

University lgbt center lore drop when?? (/lh)
im gonna be so real anon every time i think it cannot get worse it does!! but just one example: cis white gay director tries to make a ranked list of the most marginalized students on campus. puts black and brown students on the same line. and then adds christian students (not queer christians, just christians). guy who understands how marginalization works.
also when asked why the candidates for the new leadership position were all white (one of whom is his close friend from his old job at the student health center) he pointed to the one (1) latine person on the list and made some shrugging noises about “qualifications” 😑

#DailyDevotion Don't Be Like Some, Gather Together On Sunday
Tumblr media
#DailyDevotion Don't Be Like Some, Gather Together On Sunday Heb. 10 24And let us consider how we can stimulate one another to love and to do good works. 25Let us not stay away from our worship services, as some are regularly doing, but let us encourage one another, all the more because you see the day coming nearer. So how shall we stimulate one another to love and good works? Shall we not point to Jesus and His great love for us and the Father's love for us? 1John 3 says, "16This is how we learned what love is: He gave His life for us. We, too, should give our lives for our fellow Christians." In ch. 4 of the same he writes, "9God has shown us His love by sending His only begotten Son into the world for us to live through Him. 10This is love, not that we loved God but that He loved us and sent His Son to be the payment for our sins. 11Dear friends, if that's how God loved us, then we should love one another." In John 13, Jesus says, 34“I'm giving you a new commandment: Love one another! Love one another as I have loved you." In the same chapter earlier we have the example of Jesus' love, "4So Jesus rose from supper, laid aside His outer garment, took a towel, and tied it around Him. 5Then He poured water into a basin and started to wash the disciples' feet and to dry them with the towel that was tied around Him." If Jesus is our LORD and master and He humbles Himself to wash our feet, should we not follow in His example and love one another with service? Jesus did all sorts of good works and we should follow in His footsteps. First, because He did the greatest work for us by going to the cross. Secondly, He is our example. When we get together, we have our training grounds for loving one another. Here we receive God's Word, participate in Christ's sacrifice through the LORD's Supper, and receive God's blessing. Sure there is the command, "Honor the Sabbath Day." But as we have seen earlier in chapters 3 and 4, Jesus is our Sabbath. We don't have a fixed day by command when to gather. The early church from the beginning chose to gather on the first day of the week in order to celebrate Jesus' resurrection on that day. Everyone knows what day of the week we are gathering. They should adjust their lives accordingly so they can hear God's Word, receive the Sacrament, and to encourage and be encouraged by one's fellow saints. Some in the author's day were already slacking and their love growing cold as we can see from verse 25. We should not be like them. We see in Acts 2 the Church gathered, "42They were loyal to what the apostles taught in their fellowship, in breaking of bread, and in the prayers." This is what we do when we gather. We cannot do it alone and solitary. It is a selfish thing not to gather with the saints of God. We gather to "encourage one another, all the more because you see the day coming nearer." You may not think you are doing much in Church. Some members may actually complain you don't do much. However, if all you can do is add your presence to the congregation, that encourages them to be there as well. It gives them hope to see you there. It lets them know they are not alone out there when they see they are not alone in here, the Church. But while you are there, you can encourage one another to love and good works. You aren't doing that sitting on your recliner, on the gold course or on the water. But you can do that when you gather with your fellow saints. Heavenly Father, You showed us what love is by sending Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ to die for our sins. May we believe in this great love for us and follow His example by loving one another with humble service and sacrifice. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Read the full article
