Carmen: That limited edition red iPhone that came out a few years ago. Because it is red, along with a red case with a red pop socket on the back that keeps.falling.off. It's also mysteriously in perfect condition?

Player: A Google Pixel because he doesn't want to conform to the status quo of phone brands and claims he made it 'hack proof'. He sticks by it and claims it's better than any iPhone or Samsung on the market, but it's really not. And he knows that, we all know that. And no phone case because he literally can't find one for it because no one has a Google Pixel. So why make phone cases for a phone no one has?

Shadowsan: They got him an iPhone 12 Pro, big enough for him to use and see the screen because he has to view it from a distance as, and I quote 'The phone lights make his eyes blurry.' It also had one of those wallet cases mums have on their phones. He left it behind when he went on his sabbatical and got a Nokia brick and an international sim plan just for calls.

Zack: The most disgusting, feral, warped, sticky, crusty and shattered iPhone 6 in white you have ever witnessed in history yet it works completely fine despite the glass you find lodged in your finger when you use it and the centre button that is just an empty hole to the motherboard. REFUSES to get a new one because he doesn't want to lose the headphone jack and claims that apple removing it in the first place was cash grab and he will have no part in it. And honestly dam right zack I am with you there my man stay strong King xx

Ivy: She has a custom made franken-phone that is made up of various parts from all brands across the board. Alot of the parts donated from Devineaux's pile of fallen soldiers that met their doom between the 18-24 months he was actively chasing Carmen/VILE before VILE fell. Literally a beast and has a military grade case that she also crafted which she had tested. It is literally military grade, she has a certificate and everything.

Julia: Currently, a Lavender Samsung Ultra 23 256gb storage. She got it mostly for the cool pen it comes with, and because it's lavender. She updates her phone model every 2 years and sells the latter for almost the same price she bought it for because she keeps it in pristine condition. She's only ever cracked a phone once and it shook Julia to her core. It looked horrific in her opinion, the hair line crack so bad it made her gag when she brushed her finger over it. So now she always has a nice, strong silicone pastel purple case and screen protector over her phone which she cleans regularly.

Chase: He went through 6-7 phones during the 18-24 months while chasing Carmen/VILE before VILE fell. Before then and now after, he had whatever the latest phone was the year he got it regardless of the brand, about every 2-4 years or until it kicked the bucket. During that 18-24 months, he'd walk into a phone store, ask for the latest thing, and be on his way. Most of them died in his care before he even had the chance to take the back plastic off. Now, he's in far fewer situations that indanger his life or phone. Or if he is, takes the moment to hand his phone and wallet to whoever is nearby for safe keeping because he really likes the new one Julia picked out for him (which is just the same model as hers but black). Julia also being the one who made him get a case. He had no idea that phones came with their own clothing options.

Chief: Only uses holograms. But has a landline??????????????

Zari: She once owned a black Samsung A20 with a yellowing clear case back in 2015 before she was declared missing at sea? That's all the information I can get on it my sources tried their best sorry.

Brunt: Doesn't need it because she can project her voice across vast distances. Get her a rolled TV guide and she can blast your message from one side of America to the other 🇺🇸 yeehaw and also because she's scared those 5g mega hd3g Max phone microwave rays will melt her brain if she gets one of those flat things and slaps it to her face like an genz zombie.

Bellum: Has 17 Ipads all with different cases on them.

Cleo: She has other people do that phone thing for her so she isn't sure what kind of phone she has and I don't know either.

Maelstrom: A telepathic link chip he had installed into his brain to connect to cell towers. It doesn't really work... Or do anything... But it's in there so.... Yeah?

Dash: A Samsung flip BECAUSE ITS JUST AS PRETENTIOUS AS HE IS and so he can snap it shut to prove a point. He's been through like 10 of them because he snaps them closed too slay-ily damaging it. No case because I have no idea how you'd even get a case for it?? Like it folds? I don't know.

Paper Star: Lives off grid.

Sheena: A white iPhone 11 with a gold trim case that has a huge crack down the front. The back glass is completely shattered, but it doesn't stop her from endlessly scrolling through those insta reels about reviewing different tanning lotion brands.

Crackle: An oily iPhone with the most humongous case you've ever seen. You could drop it and it would bounce around like a ping pong ball. The grease that covers the lens gives his selfies an air brushed vibe to them that he just loves.

Mimebomb: An invisible 1970s orange rotary phone.

Neal: That mystic purple conch shell with the pull string from that one spongebob episode that answered questions or something. You know what I'm talking about don't make me pull up a picture.

Topo and Chev: They share one phone so covered in stickers you can't even tell what kind it is but its probably an iPhone. It's filled with couples selfies and can only work when permanently charging so it's always connected to a power bank that is also covered in stickers. Ugh.

PSA regarding Win11 13th August update and Ubuntu partitions

Just in case any other simmers (or anyone using Win11 and Linux Ubuntu on the same device) are experiencing this: After installing the latest update for Windows 11, I could not boot my Linux system, instead getting a message saying "something has gone seriously wrong - security policy violation." Using F12 boot options, I managed to get back onto my Windows desktop - but all my Sims stuff is on Linux, so...

Here's how it can be fixed. With some help from my mum's incredible librarian google-fu, I discovered that pressing the F12 key while starting up your PC to access setup options, then going to the Boot option and disabling Secure Boot, was the necessary fix for this issue. I'm on my Linux desktop now, typing this up for anyone else having the same issue.

Note that I did not figure this out myself. My mum did the search for fixes and found someone else who'd had and resolved the same problem, so full credit to them for finding the solution. I wish I had the link, or at least their online name, but just to repeat: this is not my fix. (Edit: Mum also found the name: Berry Win) Either way, I'm putting this on my blog so that anyone else experiencing this can (hopefully) sort it too.

Hi!! I know that everyone's super hyped about all this time but can I ask you for some moa updates? 🫣

I do actually. A working issue for me is that due to its size my iPad can’t really handle writing MoA in google docs. And my iPad is where I primarily write. I have been working on the latest chapter here and there but I quickly get fed up with the freezing and crashing etc. I’m in the process of buying an actual writing program which should help those matters. At this point I just need to hand over the money and set up a new document.

It is also on my plans for the next update because I do have a lot of it done and as you all know it’s been a real hot minute since it got an update.

Lastly. Here’s a snippet:

She slid onto the seat next to Elide, sighing like she’d just been through a whole ordeal instead of just walking from the car to the restaurant.

“Gimme,” Elide held out her hands for the baby.

“Oh, it’s nice to see you too,” Aelin joked but handed the baby over anyway.

Elide grinned, air kissing at Aelin. “You know I love you even more.” With the next sentence her voice changed into baby talk. “This one is just so squishy.”

Aelin rolled her eyes playfully, because she totally understood where Elide was coming from. Then she turned to the little boy who was trying to climb on his dad's shoulder. “Hey, Korby, look who Mum has.”

Korbin turned, eyes landing on Elide and they all watched as his face morphed into something that could be described as disgust. Lorcan chuckled and Aelin grinned. It was common knowledge that Korbin was not a fan of the new baby, and if the toddler had the capability to hate anything, he hated when Elide held her.

“You two are not helping,” Elide scolded, rubbing Elsie’s back. “We’re supposed to be encouraging him to like the baby.”

“Ells, he’s nearly two,” Lorcan said. “He’s going to do what he’s going to do.”

“Still,” Elide pressed.

Aelin laughed. “He’ll come around, he doesn’t have a choice. They’re stuck together for life. I’m sure they’ll be friends… eventually.”

Hiatus Just Became Indefinite

......If I ever find Murphy, I’m going to beat him to death with his damn law. And they’re never going to find the body.

SO! I’ve been getting increasingly fed up with Windows. Of course, I also am not a fan of Mac. What to do, what to do? Well, Mum has a friend who’s a computer wiz who swears by Linux. He got her set up with it and she’s not been having any problems, so why not? Back in February - 2020 - I gave him my desk top to overhaul, figuring I could use my laptop (which was never meant to be more than a portable around-the-house entertainment center) for a month or two.

By which we, of course, mean over a year.

I got my desk top back this past November and immediately realized that Mum does less with her computer than I do. I have tried - and failed - to figure out how to do things on my own, but have been too stressed out to contact her friend with a list o’ questions until recently.

By recently I mean ‘this was on the docket for this week’s days’ off’. In the meantime it was fine! I had my lap top. Things were great.

Yesterday the latest attempt by Microsoft to update FUBAREDed my lap top. After many hours running the Dell OS reinstall, having it fail, rerunning it, etc. I finally got to the point where it told me to restart my laptop so I could finish things.

It couldn’t find a bootable OS and turned off.

I SERIOUSLY CAN NOT EVEN TURN THIS THING ON.

Now, the good news it that I backed everything up on my external hard drive not too long ago. Okay, yeah, it’s been a few months, so I’ve lost stuff, but with, like, three exceptions it’s stuff that I have up on the internet someplace, so it’s not the end of the world.

The bad news is that my external drive is password protected and, like most things, only has options to open it on Windows and Mac. Which means all of my data is safe and sound and inaccessible! Not that it really matters because all of my big writing projects are on Scrivener and while they are working on a Linux version, it’s still in beta.

So, until I can figure out how to get Scrivener, Photoshop CS2, etc. all up and running on this machine - or access my old Windows drive that is mounted to the computer but is not opening (this is going to require not only an email, but screen captures), my existing writing projects are dead in the water.

YES I KNOW LINUX HAS A MILLION YOUTUBE HOW TO VIDEOS!!!!! I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THEM!!!!

The videos and such I’m finding are only really helpful if you have the exact Linux build they’re using. I don’t.

PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE COMMENTS WITH ‘I GOOGLED THE THING FOR YOU HERE ARE LINKS YOU’RE WELCOME!’

I’m a ludite, yes, but I’m not incompetent. Unless you specifically have sources to tell me how to install WINE, Scrivener, and Photoshop CS 2 on Xubuntu, or on that build in general, please just let me work this out with Mum’s friend. If he can get a 70 year old up and running on this softwear, he can do it with me. I have my list of questions, all I need are screen caps and I’m ready to start seriously trouble shooting this.

Now, I do have Libra Office and am familiar with it, so any new writing projects I come up with will go forward without a hitch and I can move them to Scrivener when I’m able. I’m not broke, so I can get my laptop looked at. Even if they can’t save the date, I should be able to access my external drive again, etc. Also, just before the system completely died I figured out how to turn OFF the stupid auto updates and do it manually, so I shouldn’t run into this again.

Basically I’m just super frustrated and about to go even quieter than planned and giving everyone a head’s up.

In the midst of pulling and pushing both the men to the ground you realized both had frozen all of a sudden. You looked at them with your big round eyes, Taehyung was trying his best to look anywhere but you while Jungkook was simply staring at the ceiling. What’s gotten into them, you wondered. All that thinking had made your headache worse, your body felt limp and dizzy as sleep overcame you.

It was already dark when you woke up, you tapped on your phone screen only to mentally scream in horror. It was midnight, you’d been sleeping all this time since afternoon?! You were hardly sane when you opened the door to the dining, everything was dark. Good, that gives me more reason to eat. Taehyung and Jungkook either have gone to sleep or are out. Whatever it is it didn’t bother you anymore. I am just a friend right? Oh no no, a sister. Your evil side was playing all kinds of mind games with you, you couldn’t keep up with it. Your head was still buzzing and that droning sensation still lingered. Guess I’ve a bee in there?

In your semi-insane semi- sane state of mind you hadn’t been able to guess where you were going only to make you lose your balance and hit the tray of beer cans kept on the kitchen slab. Oh shit! You were already done with keeping them on the tray when a door behind you opened. You were busy doing whatever you were doing only to be interrupted.

“Y/N?” You still felt groggy, pushing your weight on the slab you turned around to meet a topless Taehyung in boxer shorts. What? Am I dreaming?

You opened your eyes big and wide, damn it was the sexy Kim Taehyung in only his undies. Wow! What a sight, isn’t it?

The pale light fell in shades on him sharpening his features than they already were. You could see his shoulder muscles flex as he brushed his hair back. Before you could say something you caught sight of a woman in nothing but a white shirt on her body. You could see her nipples poking out like rings of a grenade. She had come out of the room and right now was clinging on to Taehyung’s arm, uggh definitely a pest this one. She’s gonna create a whole lot of ruckus once Tae kicks her out of his life. Don’t get me wrong both my best-friends might be really handsome but they’re not the stereotypical cliche-tic playboys. It’s not they who cheat rather it’s the other way round, funny right? It’s quite rare to find a girl who’d share similar interests as the guy so when they find out they can neither hold up to Taehyung’s sharp brain nor bear Jungkook’s snarky humor they begin complaining. Both have zero patience for utterly selfish and nagging people and that’s how the one-night stands to potential girlfriends girls end up being in the sewers.

“Tae-tae what’s taking you so long?” Uggh, this girl and her nasally voice. It didn’t take a genius to figure out what Tae’s silence meant. It was a sign for the girl to keep her claws within her bounds and not pry out. She left his arm only to look at me with disgust. What the actual fuck, did she just do that? We just met and she doesn’t even know anything. I was tired and so was my brain, wait a minute I just got up. I guess that’s cue for me to sleep even some more, tomorrow is Saturday, I guess I’ll sleep some more. I don’t want to run into both of them first thing in the morning. Right now I need to square up to Tae. The moment you stepped away from the slab into the center of the room you heard Tae make a sound. It sounded like a gasp. What?

“Umm...Tae I’m sorry about what happened this morning. I really wasn’t in my right mind...” Once again you were rambling badly.

“You did nothing wrong.” What? His voice had dropped low and it came out more like a pant. Did I disturb him in the middle of his adventure? Uff. You looked up to him to find him staring at you, his gaze was somewhat clouded or was it the light that was playing tricks with your sight? Which one is it? His jaw clenched and unclenched, what’s wrong? Oh, I get it, he must be mad for disturbing him. Obviously he must be. I might be a virgin but he has a sex-life right? What right have I got to interrupt him like this? The next thing I knew was Tae’s heavy breath on my cheek as he held me by shoulders. I shivered at our contact. My body felt tingly all over as he breathed hard against my left ear. I felt his nose nuzzle against my lobe, what the actual frack! I’m dreaming right?

His breath came out in rasps as he steadied my shaking body, “Y/N-ah, I think you should wear something.” With that he was gone.

You opened your eyes to find no one in the room, the door to Tae’s room closed violently. It wasn’t a dream was it? You flopped yourself on your bed and stared at the ceiling. What the hell was that?

“I uh- that’s quite a bit of artistry,” Lily finally grinds out, biting back a laugh.

The kid - Matt maybe? - grins and lets his shirt drop back down to cover the tattoo. “Oh - sorry,” he stumbles a little and grabs another Sam Adams from the cooler, “Does that bug you? Since you’re - ”

“I’m actually half Irish.”

He blinks, brow furrowing like he’s trying to remember whether the Emerald Isle was involved in the American Revolution. “So you don’t mind?”

Lily rolls her eyes and he seems too occupied wondering whether he actually offended her to notice, this conversation really needs to end. “I don’t take the Declaration of Independence personally.”

“But it’s got an eagle - and the Bri- Bri- tsh flag is all,” he trails off and uses his hands and increasingly scrunched facial expressions to mimic tattoo across his back - the Union Jack being torn in half between the talons of two eagles while the Declaration of Independence ripples in the background. It’s quite an artistic feat, if she’s being honest.

“Don’t worry about it mate.”

He laughs, “I love it when you guys say that - Jim - Jimmy - Jamie? He says it too.”

A beautifully lilted voice sounds from behind her. “James, actually. Matt why don’t you go find David, he’s got some water.”

Matt claps James on the (very broad and muscular) shoulder and wanders away, musing about whether he wants water. It’s a conversation that Lily’s glad to see the backside of. Though it will make a quality anecdote for her next FaceTime date with Marlene. If she can get a word in over Marlene’s latest update on wooing Dorcas aka beautiful goddess in 3B.

She’s called back to the present by James who seems to have asked her something given the expectant look on his face and growing grin. Lily shakes her head (maybe it’s illegal to be that attractive in the U.S.). “Study abroad is odd.”

Her new companion laughs, ruffling his curls, blinks at her from behind dark plastic glasses. “You can say that again.”

“It’s very - intense.”

“I literally almost got shot for saying I thought thin mints were a bit dry,” James says as they pick their way across the parking lot. Some kind of group effort to create a bonfire is beginning on the beach. And isn’t mixing too much mediocre beer with lighter fluid and what she’s pretty sure are off market fireworks such an American way to celebrate a holiday. It’s so appropriate for their ‘Independence Day’ party that Lily almost doesn’t get nervous that she’s about to end up on the evening news.

Before she can make a beeline for the pending 10 o’clock update (because Americans even do time weird) James grasps her arm. “Wait - they’ve got a pre arranged party mum,” he gestures with the neck of his beer, “David drew the short straw.”

And right on schedule, a man with close cropped hair and an air of resignation heads over and reclaims the fire-creating implements and begins barking orders.

Lily relaxes and heads over to grab one of the water bottles James mentioned, brushing stray ice cubes back into the cooler. “Not a Girl Scout Cookie fan?”

“I just don’t understand buying so-so biscuits for exorbitant prices,” he says, nodding his thanks when she passes him a water.

“And the excessive number of boxes - do they eat them all? Is it some guilt complex? Or a weird thing with plaited pigtails? Have you noticed that?”

James nods and nudges his glasses back up, “Yes. The more complicated the braid, the less likely you are to escape without dropping at least $40 on stale Samoas.”

“Americans do seem to enjoy making everything...large. You can bulk buy anything here,” Lily laughs, “A damn gallon of milk?”

“Don’t start me on the weird fixation with the Imperial System.”

“It doesn’t even make sense,” Lily agrees. Some kind of impromptu sing along has started around the bonfire (which was somehow started without anyone ending up in the A&E) and Lily finds herself glad she stumbled on someone else who doesn’t know these songs well enough to sing them sloppy drunk on the beach. They claim a couple of seats on the empty bed of a pick up, and Lily is buzzed enough to want to lie back and wax poetic about the stars slowly winking to life.

James follows her lead and props his head on his palm. He lets out a long sigh and Lily tilts her head toward him just enough to make eye contact. “Miss home?”

He grunts. “I made eye contact with a man while he was on the toilet.”

Lily’s laugh takes her by surprise. “What is with the gaps? I feel like I’ll have more questions about Americans then answers by the time I go home.”

“We should uh- compare notes,” James says, eyes darting to her a bit nervously.

Lily snorts. “Smooth. How long have you been planning that one?”

“Completely off the cuff. I’m very genuine.”

“Translation: procrastinator extraordinaire.”

“Don’t psychoanalyze me,” James murmurs, “Unless it means you want to spend further time together to study me.”

Lily throws her arms overhead messily, her crop top riding up so the band of her bikini peeks out from beneath the tie dyed shirt. “Another pick up - god I hate that it’s working.”

James twists and pushes up on his elbow, propping his head on his hand. “I don’t.”
