Important note about Gray from Case Files Material. While Waver said in CF volume 1 that she’s a descendant of one of Artoria’s relatives it turns out that’s not the case.

Furthermore, while El-Melloi II proposed that she was “likely a descendant of a distant relative of King Arthur��� in the first volume, while that wasn’t just a handwave explanation at all, it would be more correct to say she belonged to a family which was imprinted with the essence of King Arthur.

Basically, Gray’s family was genetically engineered with magic to have Saber’s “essence”, but they aren’t literally descendants of the Pendragons.

I think of it like how in FF7 Sephiroth thinks of Jenova as his mother because he had the Jenova cells engineered into him from birth, but his actual mother was Lucrecia.

I love all the red herrings about lucy gray’s fate that are in sotr. is she lenore dove’s grandmother? or is she maybe burdock’s? or maybe maysilee’s? or did the uncles’ statement “oh no. not again” mean that she really did die in the woods that day with coriolanus? she has a grave stone, but are her pearly white bones underneath? idk she really is in the trees, in the breeze, her footsteps on the ground
