Super Robot Rollcall: Nu Arrivals
v Gundam
Tumblr media
Source Material: Mobile Suit Gundam: Char’s Counterattack
Model number: RX-93
Height: 24.2 meters
Power Source: Nuclear Fusion Reactor
Real World Designer: Yutaka Izubuchi
Amuro's personal-use prototype Mobile Suit. That's not a V for Victory in the name, it's the greek letter N (pronounced "new") in lowercase, so this machine is more often referred to as the "Nu Gundam" in the english-speaking world.
Hastily built in just 3 months by taking inspiration from all Gundam frames built so far and utilizing many pre-existing parts under the Londo Bell's jurisdiction, and further powered up by the leaked Psychoframe technology.
Being one of the most popular Mobile Suits ever made, it's no surprise that it boasts a massive number of SRW appearances, rivalling even the eternal champion and soaring iron castle, Mazinger Z.
Tumblr media
It's got great Mobility and Movement Range, comes with an I-Field (extremely powerful anti-beam barrier), incredible range thanks to its signature Fin Funnels... but its damage output is slightly underwhelming without its combination attack, and its combination attack will not be available for most of the game.
Speaking of not being available for most of the game, that's also true for this machine! It'll be with us to the end, but it'll spend most of the game away, and when it comes back it will only have whatever upgrades you put onto it right now. If you pick the Nadesico route at the beginning of the game, you're better off not even putting Amuro in this, sadly.
Fun Fact: In Fukuoka, there is a life-sized statue of a variation of this machine; known as the RX-93ff v Gundam, it sports a single large Fin Funnel known as the "Long Range Fin Funnel". Pragmatically speaking, this was done to make sure it wouldn't easily topple, as typhoons happen often in Kyushu.
It's just a statue, not a moving machine, so you could say it's just for show.

Mass-Produced v Gundam
Tumblr media
Source Material: Kunio Okawara Collection (M-MSV)
Model Number: RX-94
Height: 21.2 meters
Power Source: Nuclear Fusion Reactor
Real World Designer: Kunio Okawara
Just as the name implies, it's a v Gundam designed with mass-production in mind. For that reason, it allows for easy changing of Incoms to Funnels and vice-versa.
Tumblr media
For a secret unit, at first glance, the MP is rather underwhelming. Unimpressive stats and even less impressive damage, with its strongest move, the Incoms, only barely breaching the 4k threshold at max upgrades. Its long range is good, yes, as is the fact it doesn't require Will to use, but it's still not really all that impressive.
Much like the "true" v Gundam, this machine will be leaving eventually and be gone for most of the game, but unlike the v Gundam, when it comes back it'll have quite a few more tricks up its sleeve, which will make it much more convenient to use.
Fun Fact: Supposedly, at one point the MP v Gundam was to make an appearance in Gundam Unicorn, but this didn't come to pass and its role was taken up by the Silver Bullet. This info is on the japanese SRW wiki with no source, so take it with a grain of salt.

Gundam Narrative: Thoughts
Tumblr media
This movie had something of a lukewarm reception from critics and fans. I think a big part of that is that it was more or less a direct sequel to Gundam Unicorn, which as I mentioned earlier was excellent in most ways. Directly compared to it, Narrative doesn’t really stack up. It looks worse than Gundam Unicorn (despite being a theatrical release,) the story is worse than Gundam Unicorn, and it’s a hell of a let cornier than Gundam Unicorn.
That said, being worse than Gundam Unicorn doesn’t necessarily translate to “bad.” While I definitely wouldn’t consider this to be an excellent movie, and in fact there were parts of its runtime that I’d consider to be downright poor, ultimately by the time the end credits rolled it had done enough to win me over. While I definitely see why some fans consider this movie to be one to forget, I ultimately enjoyed my time with it.
The plot setup is that while we saw only two RX-0 units in Unicorn, there exists a third unit called the Phenex that went rogue. In UC 0097, one year after the conclusion of the events of Gundam Unicorn, the Phenex has reappeared and has gone on the rampage. The Federation has dispatched a task force to capture it, only to be joined by Michele Luio and Jona Basta, respectively a representative of a powerful corporation who has a special interest in the Phenex, and Jona Basta, a fairly average mobile suit pilot who’s nevertheless been assigned the Narrative Gundam in order to recapture the Phenex. Both have history that ties them to the elusive machine’s former pilot, Rita Bernal. Meanwhile, a rogue Neo Zeon faction also seeks to capture the Phenex for themselves. Amongst their number is Zoltan Akkanen, a mentally unstable reject from the cloning project that brought forth Full Frontal, who seeks to enact his own agenda.
The movie’s biggest problem is that it’s straight up too short for what it’s trying to do. It’s 90 minutes long, and honestly it felt like a full hour of extra runtime to fill out blanks and just slow down what feels like a rushed pace a little would not have gone amiss. It doesn’t help that much of the runtime is flashbacks to Jona, Rita and Michele’s past, which is delivered in chunks and makes things feel choppy and sometimes repetitive as the narrative keeps revisiting the same flashback scenes multiple times. This is kind of a shame as the actual story itself is pretty good once you get past the sometimes-confusing way it’s delivered. Honestly it took me right up until the end for me to come round to liking the movie, and I think a part of that is because that’s when everything finally clicked into place. The characters are mostly pretty good - Jona’s a sympathetic lead, Michele is a fairly nuanced character, especially once her backstory’s all delivered, and Zoltan comes across as totally unhinged in a way that makes him an engaging villain, but not so unhinged that his motivations don’t make any sense. As far as the storytelling goes as a whole, I think it has a strong beginning, a weak middle and a strong conclusion. This is largely because the best animation and battles are front-and-back loaded, but also because the early part introduces the characters and builds intrigue, the middle starts to make things confused and things don’t resolve properly until the dramatic conclusion.
I can’t really sign off on talking about the story without mentioning what’s likely to be the biggest sticking point for a certain segment of fans. Some gundam fans express disdain for “newtype magic,” and prefer it when the series trends more towards being a more grounded war drama. If that describes you, this movie is definitely not for you. Unicorn was already considered excessive by many in regards to the power level afforded to newtypes by psychoframe-equipped mobile suits and their overall centrality to the plot. Narrative goes even further beyond that, to the point where it honestly gets silly. Personally, while I like the grounded war drama side of Gundam, the newtype stuff’s always been important to UC ever since the original series, so I typically welcome its inclusion, but even I thought that it was pushed to beyond reasonable levels here. I made the conscious choice to just try and accept it and enjoy it for what it was, knowing that this was ultimately just a side story rather than anything with real lasting ramifications for the setting, but I think that many others will hate it and see it as the series jumping the shark, and they might not be wrong.
On the presentation front, as I mentioned in the preamble, it’s definitely weaker than Unicorn. It’s not bad looking, but as a followup to Unicorn that was released on the silver screen you’d probably expect more, doubly so considering the movie’s short runtime. That said, it makes do with what it has quite well - while most of the mobile suit designs return from Unicorn, the two stars of the show, the Phenex and Narrative Gundam (coming in three variations,) are well-animated and feature in exciting battle sequences. The final battle in particular is a glorious pyrotechnic ballet with an exciting conclusion. While visually it falls short of the mark that Unicorn set, Hiroyuki Sawano returns to deliver another excellent soundtrack that elevates the rest of the package another level - particular mention deserves to be given to the track “Vigilante” which was probably the highlight of the whole movie.
Ultimately, while I think that as a direct sequel to Unicorn it’s definitely lacking, I think it’s still better than its reception would indicate and that it’s at least worth a watch. Just know that it’s more of a bonus side story and not the next epic chapter of UC Gundam - if you set your expectations accordingly I think it’s definitely at least worth a watch.

Next review: HGUC MSN-06S-2 Sinanju Stein!
Now one thing I have in biase for this kit is that the Stein is my 2nd favourite mobile suit of all time. Even so I intend to judge this kit fairly and look at its pro’s and cons. As the head Suit of the new Sleeves faction, piloted by the goddamn insane Zoltan Akkanen, the unit 2 Sinanju Stein is taken to its limits as a psychoframe equipped suit and meets its end upon the OVA’s conclusion. But how does it compare as a kit to the onscreen appearance?
Well for starters the colours and weapons are spot on. The Stein is equipped with its new high beam rifle (a modified build of the Sinanju’s rifle using a high charge external pack to boost its power substantially) a shield with a bazooka launcher and two yellow beam sabers that store in the arms and are deployed via removable flaps, much like the ground type Gundam’s leg sabers.
While this kit is built off the original Sinanju kit, it has alot of variation to its construction beyond the outward appearance. New shoulder joints and a new waist joint have been added to give the kit more flexibility. I feel the shoulder joints are a little flimsy, but they do the job well enough. My only major gripe with the kit is the leg boosters. They have next to movement on them, despite being mounted on a long peg. Their clearance leaves little room and as a result they kept falling off when I was turning them for pictures.
Despite those minor flaws I give the kit 9/10 - definitely worth getting if you’re a Unicorn fan or just a fan of Zeon in general!

RX-78-2 Gundam
OOB Showcase - Click photos for Higher Resolution
Real Grade 1/144
Mobile Suit Gundam 0079, Mobile Suit Gundam the Origin, Gundam v Hello Kitty, Ready Player One
The original Gundam, and arguably the progenitor to everything that followed. It’s the all-time poster-boy for the franchise, and the go to for crossover Gundam appearances into other media such as the most recent Gundam v Hello Kitty event celebrating the respective anniversaries, and the movie Ready Player One which lightly reintroduced Gundam to audiences outside of Japan. I haven’t held an RX-78-2 Gundam since when they were selling Mobile Suit in Action figures at Target during the ‘90s. It was the first Gundam figure I ever had as a kid, during a time when Gundam Wing was all the rage, and despite never having watched the classic original anime in full (really wish Bandai would post it to Youtube under Gundaminfo, or at least license it to be streamed). I tended to lose things easily as a kid, so I have no idea what happened to all the Gundam figures I had back then. As such, there’s much nostalgia in this kit for me personally. However, I will be sharing my thoughts on this kit as objectively as possible.
As with most real grades, this kit looks absolutely fantastic out of the box. There’s great detailing and panel lining, albeit some of the panel lines are just a tad too shallow, requiring one of two more passes with a panel lining pen. Color variation is also very pleasing, with two tones of white, blue, and red with touches of a light beige among the white panels. While I wasn’t too big of a fan of the lighter blue, I’ve come to enjoy how it breaks up the torso design. All this carries over to the weapons and equipment as well. I especially appreciate the decision to go with a white and black combination for the body of the beam rifle, and the nice detailing on the beam saber hilts since most RG kits I’ve built tend to lack any surface detailing on their beam saber hilt - that’s mostly due to the designs though to be honest.
This kit is also no slouch when it comes to articulation, being essentially the pilot kit for the Real Grade line it better not be. It delivers a fantastic range of motion, and can achieve almost any pose desired. However, as it was the first kit of the line, it suffers from articulation problems that are unfortunately characteristic of early Real Grades. While it can achieve a wide range of dynamic poses, it can have trouble holding those poses due to some loose joints. Only the shoulder joint, neck, back and front skirt panels are guilty of this, but the first one is especially crucial to posing. It will have trouble holding up its arms in certain positions, slowly slipping down as the shoulder joint is simply too loose as is out of the box. Perhaps some top coat will fix it, and I hope that it does. the front and back skirt panels can move independently, but the front skirt panels suffer from the same issue that the skirt armor on the RG MS-06F Zaku II did, in that they can fall off easily when lifting the legs up since the torso inhibits their movement a bit. It can of course be moved to allow full 90 degree lift of the legs, but not without some posing of the front skirt panels in a way that will allow so. It just takes a bit of a work around.
Now for a really irksome issue. This kit only comes with the articulated “real grade hands” and the closed fists hands. No pre-posed hands, and the real grade hands lack any effective means to locking weapons into place since they only have a small slot into which only the ranged weapons can plug into via a very finnicky peg. While the kit does include a pair of beam saber hilts that have pegs, these pegs refuse to slot into the real grade hands no matter how close to breaking the hands I go, and seem to made with the sole purpose of pegging into storage slots on the inside of the shield. This means that one of the most iconic weapons of the Gundam, is also one of the most unpleasant to pose with since essentially loose fingers are now tasked with holding a lengthy beam saber without a solid connection point. These “real grade hands” are simple the worst, and don’t really work on 1/144 scale kits. While I’m glad they were removed starting with the RG Unicorn Gundam, it’s unfortunate that Bandai didn’t realize just how ineffective these finnicky hands are earlier. Despite this one major issue though, I still really enjoy this kit.
The Real Grade RX-78-2 Gundam was trip down nostalgia lane for me, and I really enjoy the kit. It should be evaluated as a pilot kit for the Real Grade line. A prototype that was a proof of concept; that Master Grade-level quality could be implemented at a 1/144 scale effectively. While I do plan on getting the MG 3.0 of the RX-78-2, as well as the The Origin variant, I got this kit to launch what I call the “Rivalry Project”, starting with the most iconic rivalry in the entire franchise: Amuro Ray V Char Aznable. I will essentially be collecting the major suits they piloted in their faceoffs, and brief cooperation during Zeta Gundam. Up next in this project, in fact, is the HG revive Hyaku Shiki. I’ll write in more detail in a separate post for anyone interested. It seemed fitting that the first gunpla for this project, would also be the first Gundam I ever got as a kid first getting into what is now my all-time favorite sci-fi franchise.

AMX-104Jk R-Jaja Cavalier model is NOT mine Text is (i’ll try to find the original page). For anybody who has watched Gundam Build Divers RE Rise This is a tongue an cheek reference to JUSTICE KNIGHT “Kamakaze” Kamaze but set as a UC character.
AMX-104Jk R-Jaja Cavalier: General & Technical Data: Model number: AMX-104Jk Code name: Cavalier Unit type: Custom Commander-use Close Quarters Combat Mobile Suit Manufacturer: Neo Zeon Operator: Axis, AEUG, Neo Zeon, Republic of Zeon, Sleeves First deployment: 0088 U.C. Accommodation: Pilot only (in panoramic monitor/linear seat cockpit in chest) Dimensions: overall height 23.55 meters; head height 20.0 meters Weight: empty 36.4 metric tons; max gross 67.5 metric tons; mass ratio 1.63 Armor materials: Gundarium Alloy Powerplant: Minovsky type ultracompact fusion reactor, output rated at 2,320 kW Propulsion: rocket thrusters: (2 x 16,200 kg, 5 x 11,200 kg); vernier thrusters/apogee motors: 18 Equipment & design features: sensors, range 13,700 meters, Propellant Tank, Ejectable, Visor Fixed armaments: Beam Saber, power rated at 0.72 MW, stored in recharge rack on left hip armor, hand-carried in use; Shoulder Shields Optional hand armaments: Beam Lancer (2 x Beam Gun), powered by rechargeable energy cap, w/ removable heat sword Technical & Historical Notes: One of many mobile suits developed by Neo Zeon during the First Neo Zeon War, the AMX-104 R-Jarja was intended for use by high-ranking officers (also known as "Knights" in Neo Zeon). One of the custom variations on the R-Jarja was the Cavalier, a heavily stylized suit used by “Silver Justice Knight of Zeon” Kazami Torodelli. Kazami was born on one of the many colonies that were cracked down on by the EFF after the OYW & grew up seeing nothing but Zeon Warlords & Earth elitists bullies. However, after the rise of the Titans he decided to join up w/ Haman Karn’s Axis Zeon as she was charismatic, & he was looking for a cause. Kazami was an idealist, & quickly proved his leadership potential & true skills w/ a MS especially in melee. He truly believed that pragmatic chivalry & mercy had its place on the battlefield & that the rank of Knight should be more then a promotion for ambitious officers & held to a higher standard that inspired his men. His mobile suit reflects this & is designed for melee combat supported by ranged MS, he’s style being to quickly cripple multiple opponents w/ high speed precision strikes. A friend of Mashymre Cello, he was infatuated w/ the charismatic & manipulative Hamman Karn. However, when he witnessed Mashmyre Cello’s casual betrayal by their Lady, Kazami was devastated. After the alliance w/ Paptimus Scirocco, whom Kanzaki never trusted, It became apparent that Haman was just another Zeon warlord. After the outbreak of the Neo Zeon civil war, he was fed up, he fled the insane Zeon Factions along w/ his J-team, joined the only group that seemed to have any concept of justice or honor, the AEUG, staying until U.C. 0090 & proving to be an inspiration & skilled ace serving along side both Quatro Bajina & Amuro Ray at various times. He survived the following years as did his rather unique Cavalier, along w/ most of his J-team, where he served in the Republic of Zeon defence forces after the Titans were destroyed. In U.C. 0094, completely dissatisfied w/ the unchanged arrogance of the earth elites, he threw in his lot w/ Char Aznable, a man whom he admired after serving w/ him. After Char’s attempt to render earth uninhabitable, & the pintless deaths of most of the J-Team, he nearly hung up his lance. After slowly sinking into a depression, in U.C. 0096 he was tracked down by Full Frontal & personally asked to join the Sleeves faction. Bitter after being fooled so many times & losing his men he was reluctant & dismissive of the Char clone. Full Frontal would took the time to carefully layout his plan. He wanted him as an example that others should aspire to, to become the Shining Knight once again. He would not be part of offensive operations, but rather protect the hard-done civilians & facilities at Paulau. Full Frontal had a feasible plan that did not involve deliberate mass destruction of innocents, abuse of cyber Newtypes or spouting half-baked ideology. Full Frontal was much more reasonable then previous Zeon warlords. He served in the frontlines & wasn’t bent on vengeance like Char or conquest like Hamman. Metting the crew of the Garancieres sold him, these were good people & tough veterans who wouldn’t side w/ just anybody. He was left in command of the Palau Asteroid base as it’s Knight Protector, seeing little of the frontline skirmishes. In a great surprise, He was reunited w/ the last member of his J-team, Messer Drakonhorst (A.K.A. the Blazing Drakon), a man he had given up as dead after Char’s debacle. Messer was still piloting his old AMX-009F Dreissen Fleiger from the Gryps conflict. Upon returning w/ the captured Unicorn Gundam, full frontal assigned guard duty over the strange MS to the veteran pair. When the attack on Paulau came they sortied in his repainted Chavalier, rapidly disabling several Londo Bell Jegans & ReZELs in a dazzling display of skill & teamwork. The pair shone together, Shining Knight & Blazing Drakon rode for the last time. Armaments & Equipment: Beam Saber: One of the R-Jarja's primary weapons, it is power rated at 0.72 MW & has a characteristic look thanks to its large handguard & unique beam generator. When not in use, it is stored in a scabbard-like sheath mounted on the waist that also serve as an energy charger. Shoulder Shields: Rather then the movable shields of the R-jaja the Cavalier has simple shoulder guards that can be used for bashing & rushing. Beam Shot Lancer: A large lance like melee beam weapon that has beam guns built in for charging attacks. It has four built-in Beam Guns to deal w/ medium & long-range opponents. The reverse lance section can be used against surrounding opponents & fired on a wire then retrieved for a deadly blow. Missile Shield: The Cavalier is equipped w/ a large circular shield based on the Gyan’s that not only defend it from beam weapons, but also has offensive capabilities in the form of missiles stored within. The system fits w/ Kazami rapid jousting style, being used mostly to distract multiple opponents while closing in.  Small Missiles: The missile shield stores 60 AMS-02S type small missiles in the outer edge in two concentric rows. These missile launchers usually carry AMS-02S type missiles (small conventional missiles) but can also carry other types such as the 04 type (multiple warhead) & 05S type (proximity fuse). A variety of specialist rounds such as flash & smoke to disorient opponents are typically loaded in half the tubes. 10-tube missile launcher: 10 larger missile tubes are mounted on the shield front. Uses AMS-01H Heavy Missiles. Propellant Tank: To compensate for the Cavaliers high fuel usage an single propellant tank is mount on the back. Visor: A stylized visor that protects the head sensors in combat. in a homage to classic knights of antiquity it is raised when not in use & typically lowers during a charge.

‘ COCKPIT ‘ - Interior furniture store (Developed)
‘ We transform your room into the cockpit of a mobile suit only for you, Gundam fan! ‘
Every mobile suit have COCKPIT space for it’s pilot to ride so is every house has its own core room for its owner. The idea is to give this room another identity by changing it into the Gundam itself. To fulfill the dream of every Gundam fan since they were young.
Tumblr media
Our product are designed as interior furniture with feature that allowing them to serving two functions, the first one is feature of attach and detach themselves from the wall, saving the space while not being use. The second feature is the color, aesthetically identify the room as the mobile suit of choice from the customer. This color set will define that room into any specific mobile suit hence the room itself is the cockpit of that mobile suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our store is the renovation of the Mega plaza, the place where Gunpla stores relocated themselves to after the gentrification of Saparn Lek market on the canal.
Tumblr media
The renovation took place on the left side of the building where there are no Gunpla stores involve, The renovation using the image of Hanger space for mobile suit as an inspiration since the room in my case are already reidentified as Gundam itself.
Tumblr media
Looking at the plan, the middle space is been carved out to recreate the image of 18m Gundam standing in the middle. People can enter the building in several ways, through the connection between two building, through the bridge in the front which connected with the 2nd floor and through the main entrance on the 1st floor. The 1st floor also exist reception counter, hydraulic floor bridge, showcase base and space elevator which connect all floors together.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The floor was cut with the design of groove line as base that run through the whole building, which also create penetration between floor filled with grating for the industrial look. The floor is finished with 3 different metal sheets as seen. It also affect the look of the store front and the public bench on the opposite of the building.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is the main circulation of this building, where A B C are circulation route leads to each room type. The user will entering the building walk up to reception counter then experiencing the vertical circulation resemble how the pilot entering their mobile suit.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The first route, A using glass bridge leads to R05 room type.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The second route, B using hydraulic floor bridge to connect from space elevator to R03-04 room type. It is the floor on the 1st floor being pushed up.
Tumblr media
The third route, C using footing cable bringing you directly from the 1st floor to R01-02 room type.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In case the customer just come for an item and do not want to experience these vertical circulation, we also have this huge mechanic arm to grab a room out of its hexagon module and place them on the showcase area.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Lastly, the facade. I kept the front as it is and play with the side more. As someone who obsessed with unicorn gundam and transformable thing. The facade design using the groove line like the whole space with opening feature to reveal the sample room for the passerby as a kind of seduction luring them in to experiencing the space.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are variations of this facade spectacle, while activate it will perform the opening feature while displaying the light and sound effect.
