I feel like M*A*S*H set me apart from my family, especially after I moved away.

Most people see M*A*S*H as a medical/war sitcom. I see it as a piece about war/immigrants/sexism/classism.

M*A*S*H taught me humanity. It taught me that those escaping war/persecution/addiction/abuse/heteronormative expectations are still worthy of respect and patience. It taught me that sometimes morality and ethics aren't black and white.

M*A*S*H taught me more than church ever could. It taught me that sometimes the enemy has been parading as your ally and that your enemies are more alike you than you may ever know.

It also showed me how to laugh through the shitty times and that the shitty times don't last forever. They'll always be there but the good times are there too.
