Does James's family have any holiday traditions?

Yes! I've been thinking about this for a while and I have some things that come to mind.

Since James' mom is from Sweden, I feel like their Christmas celebration would be a mix of American and Swedish traditions.

Food definitely is one of those things. Some Swedish things that end up on their Christmas buffet are Christmas ham, pickled herring (a.k.a sill, which isn't James' favorite) and a potato casserole with anchovy (Jansons frestelse). They also make ginger bread cookies from James' mother's family recipe and one of James' favorite Swedish Christmas candies is Knäck (a sort of toffee, usually with chopped almonds, or other flavorings). Christmas crack is another of his favorites. When he and Julia were kids they usually baked together with their mom, partly because they found it fun and partly because helping means you can eat the dough or wherever else you're baking.

Music has always been a part of their family traditions and on Christmas they sing and play Christmas music; with James playing the piano.

When they do the gift exchange, someone dresses up as Santa and comes ringing on the door and brings the gifts and hands them out to everyone, much to the delight of the children, like Oliver and the children of other relatives. I imagine they celebrate with the relatives they have that live in the U.S, and some years they are joined by relatives from Sweden.

And some time around the holidays it's not unusual for the family to do some outdoorsy activity together.

Okay so I’m thinking: Cody with a gender-neutral Reader who’s a Jedi and with the 212th when Order 66 happens? Cody and the reader are already in a relationship, but they’re standing right near him when the order comes in so they’re the first person he attacks, he wounds them, they pass out. However, the Council actually do manage to kill Palpatine and find a way to shut down the chips in all the clones’ heads shortly after the reader blacks out, so by the time they wake up in the hospital wing at the temple all the chips have been removed from the clones and the war’s over and all that.

The only thing is that Cody starts avoiding the reader, because he’s so guilty about hurting them, even if he wasn’t in his right mind, that it hurts to be near them. But eventually the reader manages to confront him and reassures him that it wasn’t his fault and they forgive him, and there’s just kind of a teary fluff scene??

Anyways, that’s my request! If you don’t want to write it, that’s totally okay, obviously, but I hope you’re doing well, love!! ✨🧚🏻💖

Amanda's line in TOS about how the Vulcan way of life is better than the Human one and the fact that she consented to raising Spock as entirely Vulcan hints towards a very strange and interesting woman that I wish would be portrayed/explored instead of the way I normally see her in adaptations which is...Slightly Sad Perfect Mother Figure. Good Woman. Good Emotions Woman to balance out Sarek. Like, to me, these things (the line and how Spock was raised to be ashamed of his Humanity) paint the picture of Amanda going up to Sarek and being like...in the midst of all these Humans he interacts with daily, so singular and interesting because of her outpouring of appreciation for the Vulcan way of life. And maybe Sarek and her speak about it and he finds himself fascinated by this woman and that mix of mutual interest becomes affection becomes love. And then these two freaks put their heads together at a certain point down the road of their marriage and Sarek says y'know Amanda it's SO cool what we're doing here but I think you've pretty much got this Vulcan thing as down as you're going to. You're a marvel and you leave me in awe every day, with the way you were raised entirely Human I don't think anyone else has achieved what you have. But you know what'd be so fucking sick? Let's see if we can raise a child that's half you and half me, a symbol of our bond and our hopes for the future of mankind (that they conquer their emotions and follow a logical path). Let's see how THAT kid handles it. It's fine to have kids that're half science experiment half symbol of the future, right? That won't fuck them up? And Amanda says YEEESSS I'd fucking LOVE to do that with you Sarek. I love you so much. And you know, Amanda is a rather enigmatic character. Why she does what she does, what she wants, how she feels about Spock and Vulcans - they're largely up to interpretation since the episode she appears in becomes very high stress very quickly and people don't always act in line with how they normally do when under that kind of life-or-death pressure BUT what I think is a point of tragedy in Spock and Amanda's relationship isn't that Spock couldn't be Human enough but that these two people couldn't bond about having emotions yet following the Vulcan path. They both view the Vulcan path as being difficult but worth it to follow. It's the path they both chose for themselves, ultimately. Imagine how much sooner Spock may have been able to accept himself wholly if he'd felt able to confide in his mother about a feeling she probably would have understood completely in a way Sarek couldn't - being Human yet alien yet Vulcan. Amanda chose to live with Sarek on Vulcan. Did she feel at home with Humans? Does she feel at home with Vulcans? Or does she exist in the same liminal space her son does? Not Human enough, not Vulcan enough. It's so interesting that Amanda Grayson is a Human being, a Human woman (which would've been especially noteworthy in the TOS' gender politics era) who can be interpreted as having in essence consciously forsaken her Humanity and encouraged her son to do the same. To what end? Was that for love or was it something she'd done before meeting Sarek? Was it lonely? When Spock allows himself to smile very slightly at something, does he look in the mirror and remember his mother's face? Maybe he does and maybe at first he's ashamed. But then he's an old man and it only brings him peace, a tether to a woman he could never really connect to in life.

can i ask what conclusions youre making from the side by side mclaren debrief? this isnt meant to be hate, im genuinely just trying to understand

to me it's about focus!! from what i can tell, these race debrief articles are generally pulled word for word either from the press conference or from the filmed debrief they post to socials after each race. in each case, for Lando, the first focus is on the winner, then on the team, then on his race. whereas Oscar's tend to be heavily focused on his race, then the team, with little to no mention of the winner.

these articles are not meant to be critical debriefs of the race (they have other, play by play articles for that), but i do find it interesting that they focus on such different things, especially considering i think their wins actually happened in quite similar circumstances (in each case, a first win for both of them and a second, "lights out" dominant/impressive win for both of them).

i also kinda feel like Oscar comes across a bit defensive in his quotes when Lando has won? it's always a focus on why he didn't do as well (which i don't think was required as Miami was down to other drivers and Netherlands was dirty air) and how he's going to do better next time. obviously Lando does A LOT of that in a different way (more self flagellating than Oscar) but never in team debriefs, only in individual press, and his quotes in this case take the spin of "let's not focus on me but on all these good things we achieved"

largely, and honestly, it rubs me the wrong way that Oscar just doesn't seem to acknowledge Lando and his race, at the very least not beyond a "well Lando won", when Lando goes out of his way to do so for Oscar 🤷🏼‍♀️

“Why do you care so much about him? He’s nothing but a tool, a weapon.” Cordelia’s voice was cold, but there was a hint of a smirk on her lips. The look of someone who was so sure they had the upper hand.

Caretaker’s eyes went between them and Spencer who had an almost blank look on his face. A little hesitant, perhaps, but no sign of defiance or recognition. But he wasn't gone! Caretaker just couldn't believe that! “No, you- you’re wrong! He’s so much more than that! I can prove that to him, to you! I can fix… I can help him!”

Cordelia's smirk grew. “Perhaps you can. But not soon enough, I think.” she turned to Rigel. “Rigel, eliminate the enemy.” 

Caretaker could only watch in horror as they watched their friend’s eyes glaze over and begin to walk towards them. Despite being so sure that they were right about Spencer still being in there, they were scared. They had seen what he was capable of.  “Spencer, please y- you don't have to do this.” They pleaded in a shaky voice, eyes wide as they were glued to Spencer.

Cordelia laughed. “Not so sure about your friend anymore?” She mocked.

Caretaker didn't dignify that with a reply, they were too caught up with Spencer. “Spencer, please,” They begged, but there was no sign of recognition in Spencer's eyes. Right now, only the weapon, only Rigel, was present, perfectly obedient. Hurting Spencer was the last thing they wanted to do, but they knew they didn't have a choice. They had to defend themselves. And even though they tried, it hurt when their friend threw the first punch.

What happened to team Phantom after Dan left?

Idk what the get out of hell free card is with Amanda Waller, but I do know that Dan doesn't like her from his OG timeline of when he went crazy mostly cause just like Batman she was a hard person to get rid of (she kept sending people after Him), and being King really is more just a title than anything else plus paperwork, all the other death gods/entities watch over there sections of the afterlife.

As for team Phantom, well Jazz didn't make it out of the initial fight, Sam and Tucker did tho just short some of their limbs (Valerie wasn't a part of the Fight cause she was at college in metropolis)(I should probably make a timeline)

It's not shown but Sam lost her Right Leg, and after that whole Fight they became close to what Constantine does mostly just wandering magicians but their both dealing in necromancy, Sam's is more plant oriented while Tucker's is techno, not many magic people like them cause of the feeling of death that hangs around them, there still in contact with Dan and the kiddos but more like a distant aunt and uncle that barely visit (there trying to track down where the Fenton's went and the few GIW agents that got left over from the Fight)
