Story: 5
Acting: 10
Chemistry: 7
Comparable to: Drinking Solo (kdrama); Her Private Life (kdrama)
What could’ve been an excellent perfect drama, eventually became a ‘meh’ drama. The first half of this is wonderful. It’s predictable, can get corny, with also being hilarious lite and fluffy. Unfortunately it lost its flow somewhere around episode ten and on and never fully recovered. The veteran cast is excellent, Im a huge fan of both leads, but for me they don’t have great chemistry together. They both shine separately in this. I mean Kim Ji Suk is absolutely freaking hilarious here. And Jung So Min is 👌 Just during romance scenes felt nada with them. 🤷‍♀️ Overall for me it’s an okay drama, I would give it a go, especially if you’re a fan for those ones where you fast through sometimes making it a quickie

I'm once again going insane thinking about Beyond Evil's execution of the food as a love language trope, because while plenty of kdramas include this theme, Beyond Evil does it in a way that shows the evil side of the coin with the dinners shared by Han Ki-hwan, Lee Chang-jin, and Do Hae-hwan as moments of them plotting to do bad things - but especially in the dinner scenes between Han Ki-hwan and Joo-won. It's like Joo-won is being held captive during these conversations because it's rude to disrupt dinner. HKH is all about decorum and he raised his son to be nothing but proper and respectable on the surface. It's pretty obvious that Joo-won barely eats during these "meals" and I don't think it's just because he's disgusted by their conversations. Not eating is a small act of rebellion. He can't leave the table until they're done but he isn't going to share that meal with a man who has never loved or nurtured him the way a father should or give HKH another opportunity to control him by choosing what/when he eats. In my mind, Joo-won spent years half-starving himself out of resistance, and then he meets Dong-sik and the Manyang gang, who coax him slowly into the butcher shop and understanding that the dinner table is not meant to be a place of conflict or negotiation but a place of community, nourishment, and joy. I don't think it's a coincidence that when Joo-won comes back from Busan, mimicking Dong-sik, his first act is to eat ravenously in front of HKH, as if to say that he has taken control over not only that dinnertable but also his own life. It's no longer a matter of passive resistance but active rebellion. And when he and Dong-sik meet again at a dinner table and Dong-sik tells him "You must fill your belly even in the way to hell," it isn't just rebellion but an act of love.

(Old ranking - go to my blog for updated rankings)
My rankings/reviews of all the k dramas I have seen so far (up to 26 now). My top 5 has been cracked by 2 shows! Netflix k-dramas are just killing it. I would recommend any show I gave a C grade or higher. I bolded the 5 new dramas I’ve added.
*= reserving the right to change ranking after season 2.
1) Hometown Cha Cha Cha: An absolute masterpiece. It’s a heartwarming fish out of water story about a big city girl who finds herself in the quirkiest little seaside town. I wanted to stay in Gongjin forever. Grade: A+(Netflix)
2)*Extraordinary Attorney Woo (S1): The most delightful show ever. Never have I ever rooted for a lead harder. She is the most endearing lead you will ever find. And the male lead is THE standard by which all men will forever be judged. Grade: A+(Netflix)
3)Business Proposal: Bumped this up again cause it’s the show I have the urge to rewatch the most. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s got every trope you can think of and it does them all to perfection. Plus it’s hilarious. Grade: A (Netflix)
4)*Alchemy of Souls (S1): Episodes 1-19 were the perfect blend of fantasy, adventure, mystery, comedy, and romance. With so many characters who are so lovable. Episode 20 will destroy you. Counting the seconds till season 2. Grade: A (Netflix)
5)Her Private Life: Super funny and charming. The romantic leads have incredible chemistry. The premise is so good! Might be the one of the most rewatchable kdramas. Grade: A (Netflix)
6)Rookie Historian Goo Hae Ryung: Great strong female lead. Very good messages. Couldn’t stop watching. The most adorable prince I’ve ever seen 💜Cha Eunwoo💜 Grade: A (Netflix)
7)Sh**ting Stars: Probable the biggest turnaround of any show I’ve seen (The “Africa” part was so problematic). However it turned out to be one of the funniest and swooniest KDramas out there. There are 5 couples and you will cheer for all of them. Grade: A- (Viki)
8)Strong Woman Do Bong Soon: The main couple is absolutely everything! Just fast forward through pretty much every side plot (they are not important) and you’ll love it. Grade: A- (Viki)
9)So I Married the Anti-Fan: It’s campy, fluffy, goodness, with a fierce female lead and a K-pop star enemy/love interest. Fastest binge of my life. Grade: A- (Viki)
10)Start-Up: Exceptional acting, compelling storylines, intriguing plot twists, great cinematography, intense love triangle. It’s just all around high quality. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
11)Run On: Cute, fun, silly and pretty light. I especially loved the supporting cast. Strange storyline but it was a fun easy ride. Grade: B+ (Netflix)
12)Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo: A bad-ass yet vulnerable female lead. The main couple just had a lot of fun together. Refreshing. Grade: B+ (Viki)
13)I Am Not A Robot: I was surprised I really liked this one. This goes in the zany premise category but it was surprisingly pretty grounded for how crazy the set up was. It’s funny, emotional, good story telling. Great character development. Grade: B+ (Viki)
14)Shopping King Louie: Adorable! Luis is too cute. I love it how he bops along like a penguin and his cute little screams at bugs. And Bok Sil is the warmest character, you just have to root for her. So many light fluffy feels for this show but it does drag a bit in the second half. Grade B (Viki)
15)Fight For My Way: Such lovable leads. Love the fierce female lead and adorable himbo male lead. It’s like a coming of age story but for 30 year olds. Storyline was ok. Second couple was skippable. Grade: B (Viki)
16)What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim: More PSJ is always a good thing. This drama did all the tropes in ways that didn’t always feel fresh, but it was very romantic and hilarious. A true classic. Grade: B (Viki)
17)Touch Your Heart: If you can just stick it out through the first few very shaky episodes, you will enjoy this adorable, fluffy, series. Grade: B- (Netflix)
18)Doom at Your Service: It was sometimes real sad yet ultimately a heart warming mystical story. Grade: B- (Viki)
19)True Beauty: Fun, cute, teen drama however, it’s a little too “antsy teen” for me. Cha Eunwoo though💜 Grade: C+ (Viki)
20)Suspicious Partner: Great story, great characters, attractive actors, beautiful romance, interesting plot, sometimes funny, sometimes suspenseful, but with 40 episodes, the plot was dragged so far out that it became hard to get through. Grade C+ (Viki)
21)Crash Landing On You: The first half is GREAT but the second half is way too melodramatic for my taste. It’s a very interesting storyline, the main couple has insane chemistry, and there are very lovable side characters. Grade: C+ (Netflix)
22)My Love From the Star: The main relationship is incredibly intense. I just wanted to find out what happened to them so I ended up fast forwarding through everything else. The age difference in the flashbacks creeped me out. Grade D+ (Viki)
23)My Secret Romance: The story of a total screw up female lead falling for a manipulative, gaslighting, hottie. It was problematic yet fun? So 🤷‍♀️ Grade: D+ (Netflix)
24)Our Beloved Summer: I LOVED V’s “Christmas Tree” OST however I struggled to keep watching. Boring storyline but great acting. Grade: D+ (Netflix)
25)Goblin: The age gap is too disturbing for me, like call the police disturbing. However, the Grim Reaper who is one of the most adorable characters I’ve ever seen. Grade: D- (Viki)
26)Extra-Ordinary You: I have never felt so betrayed by a second half of a series as I did in this one. All of the character development that it seemed to be leading to was replaced by a pretty sickening codependent relationship. Grade: D- (Viki).
Currently Watching: Today’s Webtoon (kinda blah), She Would Never Know (idk yet), Romance is a Bonus Book (loving it), 100 Days My Prince (so far so good).
Looking Forward To: Love In Contract, Alchemy season 2!
What are your thoughts on these shows? Do you agree or disagree with my rankings? Any k-romcom recommendations that are not on the list yet?

Haeng Seon and Chi Yeol are so cute together. Middle aged teenagers, I tell you. Which sort of makes sense since neither of them have really been in a relationship before.
Chi Yeol taking care of Haeng Seon is sweet, since she’s generally the caretaker. Him asking her to stay, with that kiss is everything I wanted. Plus Chi Yeol is a huge cuddler
LOL at Haeng Seon getting caught by Hae E and Hae E telling her to change her clothes or else Yeong Joo would tease her
Su A’s mom is the worst. She see Hui Jae getting arrested and Sun Jae  freaking out but does she try to help Sun Jae or call his mom? Nope she immediately messages the group with the info to gossip.
Interestingly though, her absolute grip on the group is weakening. She’s losing her influence as moms are disagreeing with her. She was not the first to know about Chi Yeol getting reinstated - she had to learn it from the other moms.
Sun Jae’s mom is also the worst. I get that she’s trying to protect Hui Jae but she’s going to extremes. And she’s not helping or comforting Sun Jae at all. Like I know I’m team Geon Hu, but I generally do like Sun Jae and he doesn’t deserve any of this. Instead of his mom helping him she pressuring him to the extreme. He tries to tell her and nope, it’s why aren’t you in school, forget about your brother being arrested and just study. Also did she not call their dad?? He does seem interested in his kids and he’s told her that she pressures them too much.
Now she’s gone and got the test for Sun Jae, telling him it’s test questions. What huge pressure is that for him? He knows he has the test. The poor boy was like shaking while doing the test. And now Hae E has been pulled into this mess since Sun Jae gave her the “practice” questions.
And so it’s confirmed that Mr Ji IS the killer. He’s obviously that first student’s brother. He seemed genuinely upset that Chi Yeol was not longer having nightmares about her.
Haeng Seon knows that Mr Ji jerked the boat on purpose. and wow. what he ever creepy with his  “smile”

Categorizing Parent-related Trauma for male and female leads in Kdramas:
Orphans: Lee Hong-jo (Destined With You) Moon Gang-tae (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Moon Sang-tae (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Ha-ru (Extraordinary You) Naksu/Cho Yeong (Alchemy of Souls) Tak Dong-kyung (Doom at Your Service) Nam Ji-ah* (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Cheon Sa-Rang (King the Land) Jang Man-wol (Hotel del Luna) Yoon Yi-seo (100 Days My Price) Kang Young-hwa (Moon in the Day) Kim Do-ha (Moon in the Day) So Mun (The Uncanny Counter) Do Ha-na (The Uncanny Counter) Kang Tae-moo (Business Proposal) Kang Tae-ha (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, present version) Lee Heon (The Forbidden Marriage) Do Do-hee (My Demon) Ji Eun-tak (Guardian: The Great and Lonely God) Na Bong-seon (Oh My Ghost) Kang Cheol (W: Two Worlds)
Half Orphans with loving remaining parent: Eun Dan-oh (Extraordinary You) Koo Chan-sung (Hotel del Luna) Ye So-ran (The Forbidden Marriage) Nam Ha-neul (Doctor Slump) Yu Ji-hyck (Marry My Husband) Kang Hee-soo (Captivating the King) Choi Yi-jae (Death's Game) Im Sol (Lovely Runner) Lee Chang (Kingdom)
Half Orphan + Remaining Parent is THE WORST: Jang Uk (Alchemy of Souls) Kim Do-ha (My Lovely Liar) Lee Yul (100 Days My Price) Ahn Min-hyuk (Strong Woman Bong-Soon) Seo Mok-ha (Castaway Diva) Gong Tae-seong (Sh**ting Stars) Kang Tae-ha (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, past version) Yi In (Captivating the King) Kang Ji-won (Marry My Husband) Kang Sun-woo (Oh My Ghost)
Parents (at least one) are THE WORST but Both Are Still Alive: Jang Shin-yu (Destined With You) Han Yi-joo (Perfect Marriage Revenge) Ko Mun-young** (It's Okay to Not be Okay) Mok Sol-hee (My Lovely Liar) Gu Won (King the Land) Crown Prince Lee Hwi/Dam-yi/Yeon-seon (The King's Affection) Do Bong-soon (Strong Woman Bong-Soon) Woo Young-woo (Extraordinary Attorney Woo)*** Jung Ji-woon (The King's Affection) Kang Bo-geol/Lee Ki-ho (Castaway Diva) Yeo Jeong-woo (Doctor Slump) Hong Hae-in (Queen of Tears) Baek Hyun-woo (Queen of Tears) Oh Yeon-joo (W: Two Worlds)
Immortal Being that Still Somehow has Parent Issues: Myul Mang/Doom (Doom at your Service) Lee Yeon & Lee Rang (Tale of the Nine Tailed) Jeong Gu-won (My Demon)
Added trauma flavour: Parent was murdered in front of them (**Still counts if they survived the murder Parent tried to murder them Dying from seemingly incurable disease which makes their parents/guardian sad (If your parents are alive, you must pay for it by dying yourself) Adoptive parent/stepparent is THE WORST
Somehow has normal parents: Lee Jun-ho (Extraordinary Attorney Woo, Has no backstory at all. We only meet his older sister and hear nothing about his childhood.) Shin Ha-ri (Business Proposal, her family is refreshingly normal, right down to her brother being sent out to find her when she's drunk) Oh Han-byeol (Sh**ting Stars, Again, we know almost nothing about her family, only that she has twin sisters. But she doesn't appear to have childhood trauma.) Park Yeon-woo (The Story of Park's Marriage Contract, her mom being annoyed at her for something that is a crime doesn't count as bad parenting) Lee Young-joon/Sung-hyun (What's Wrong with Secretary Kim, his trauma comes from a kidnapper, his parents faced a pretty impossible situation and did their best. They clearly love their kids)
*Counting her as an orphan even though she gets her parents back after 20 years, she spent her childhood orphaned.
***This character is tricky because I understand why her mother wanted nothing to do with her, but her trying to manipulate the dad and also saying he didn't raise her properly made me so angry. Uncatagorized due to lack of clarity on parents: Soundtrack #1, Hospital Playlist, Happiness

How old is each character in Beyond Evil?
According to the official Beyond Evil web page:
Lee Dong Sik: 40
Han Joo Won: 27
Park Jung Je: 40
Yoo Jae Yi: 28
Oh Ji Hwa: 40
Nam Sang Bae: 59
Hwang Gwang Young: 34
Cho Gil Gu: 52
Oh Ji Hoon: 26
Do Hae Won: 65
Kang Jin Mook: 45
Kang Min Jung: 21
Lee Chang Jin: 49
Han Ki Hwan: 58
Kwon Hyuk: 34
I read the character information on the web page for the first time just now, and there was some interesting stuff there, such as:
Jung Je became a police officer after seeing Dong Sik and Ji Hwa trying to be one.
Ji Hwa was a Korean national Taekwondo athlete in middle school and high school. She became a police officer because she wanted to beat up bad guys "legally."
Nam Sang Bae was never married. His first love was Han Jeong Im, Jae Yi's mother. His original plan was to ask her out after successfully becoming a police officer, but it was too late; she was marrying Jae Yi's father.
The Oh siblings' father died when Ji Hoon was 12, and their mother remarried and left them. Since then, he and Ji Hwa have lived together.
Han Ki Hwan's father and grandfather were also police officers.

At time of posting 14 Sep 6pm KST: 47K views, 271 comments (Will only translate comments relating to YoonA)
2. Look at YoonA’s latest projects line-up, everything is going well for her ㅋㅋㅋ 7. All are doing really wellㅋㅋ 8. I thought YoonA wasn’t good at acting when she was Saebyuk (in her first lead drama ‘You Are My Destiny’) but these days her acting is really good. Not just as an acting idol, but she's just good at it (acting). ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ I thought IU was good since the drama ‘Pretty Man’ that starred Jang Geunsuk, and for Suzy, Anna, is the best... 9. I watched YoonA well in ‘King The Land’ ㅋㅋ She was a perfect fit ㅋㅋ 11. What? These are all the people I like!!!!! Everyone is pretty and their acting is great. By the way, Yoona's recent works are crazy, they're all successful ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 12. YoonA was so cute in ‘King The Land’ and her acting is so good ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 13. I watched all three of YoonA's latest projects. They were all good. So good. ㅋㅋㅋㅋShe is soaring especially in ‘King The Land’. 15. YoonA is also good at acting and is building up her filmography well. 16. Wow, just look at YoonA’s recent works ㅋㅋ 17. YoonA is really good at comical acting
19. YoonA, you acted so well, so natural ㅋㅋㅋ I'm looking forward to your next work. 20. I’m convinced (I agree) ㅋㅋㅋㅋEveryone's acting is good, and YoonA's batting score (percentage of her success rate) is especially good lately. 22. Wow, it looks like there aren't any (i)dols to remove (meaning OP agrees with all on the list). But it is surprising that Jung Eunji and Sooyoung aren't here.. I guess it's because there are a lot of female idols who are good at acting. 26. YoonA acted so well in ‘King the Land’ㅋㅋㅋ 27. Wow, 1st place for both men and women are ‘King The Land’ male and female leads ㅋㅋㅋ 28. It's freaking that both YoonA’s dramas and movies did well. The line-up of her recent works is insane ㅋㅋㅋ 30. YoonA’s latest works line-up are insaneㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 31. Yoona’s career is insaneㅋㅋ 32. It’s the same with male idol rankings, the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are the ones that always come up when acting idols are mentioned ㅇㅇ 33. YoonA's works line-up is insane 34. I really enjoyed watching Yoong’s ‘King The Land’, it’s my life drama ㅠ 35. Only the people who should have been chosen were chosen. 36. Nodding (in approval) ㅋㅋ 39. Oh, there are all these people who I thought they were good ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 40. They all act well... 41. Agreed 42. They are all good at acting and pretty 44. Her latest work ‘King The Land’, ‘Big Mouth’, ‘Confidential Assignment’ shivering (because of the awesome line-up) 45. YoonA's acting was really good in ‘King The Land’. She was just like Cheon Sarang herself👍 47. It feels like the differences in acting skills among the actresses aren't that big. The 5 people seem to be famous enough to be in the top 5 in terms of influence and reputation. 48. Do well, everyone 49. YoonA is really good 50. I acknowledged 51. They are all well-known faces. 52. I saw YoonA for the first time through ‘King The Land’ and she was really good. 57. YoonA was really good in ‘King The Land’. 63. I clicked in the article shouting ‘YoonA’ 65. Lim Yoona's latest work is insane...;; 68. These are all people I like 69. The votes are more evenly distributed here, so the difference in votes is not that big... The male idols were overwhelming. 71. I came in thinking YoonA would be here, but she ended up in first place ㅋㅋㅋ. 72. (Comment deleted at time of translation) 74. YoonA's acting in ‘The K2’, IU’s in ‘My Mister’, and Suzy's in ‘Anna’ were really, really good. I'm curious about the acting of this three people in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. 76. But this was released yesterday morning and suddenly both articles (male and female) came out as ‘hot’ topics. 79. To be honest, I was sad because I thought YoonA's (drama) filmography was bad, but these days, everything is really good.. ㅜㅜ And the movie filmography is good too. 80. I acknowledge everyone in this article, but it's a shame that Jung Eunji, Han Sunhwa and Sooyoung weren’t included. I really enjoyed Sooyoung's ‘Not Others’. 85. YoonA seems to choose her works well. 88. (Comment deleted at time of translation)
90. Lim Yoona’s form is crazy!!!!!!! 92. (replied to 69th comment) Oh, it looks like they got votes from all over. Female acting idols are also good at acting. 94. Oh, they are all good actors ㅋㅋㅋI also liked Jung Eunji, Sooyoung and Sojin ㅋㅋ 100. YoonA, IU and Suzy's singing and acting careers are all top notch 101. I acknowledged all of them 105. I thought about Bona, but the acting idols in the article are all very good 106. I also thought about YoonA's ‘EXIT’, but it is not her most recent work. 107. I enjoyed everything YoonA has released recently. 108. I came in the article thinking of YoonA. 109. YoonA❤️ I like her very much 112. King-jeong (t/l note: It is a slang to of 킹 (king)+ 인정 (agreed), to describe being full agreement of something) 113. I approved 115. YoonA’s recent career seems really good 117. Approved approved. 119. YoonA and IU, king-jeong. I want to watch Suzy’s drama, why isn’t it coming out yet? 120. We selected the acting idols who showed the greatest success this year and who we are looking forward to in the future. ----------------------- This is the survey topic. 121. I think YoonA’s career is so good 122. I heard about ‘King The Land’ being a huge hit on Netflix and ‘Big Mouth’ also did well, hence it is a back-to-back hit. 125. I acknowledged it 127. (replied to 120th comment) It is in the text ㅋㅋ 128. As expected, YoonA! 129. Ah, YoonA’s acting is good. 130. I acknowledge all of them 131. Approved 132. Ah, I approved of everyone listed here 133. YoonA is good 134. YoonA seems to be in good form these days. Personally, I think Suzy’s ‘Anna’ was the best ever, so I hope Suzy do another such genreㅠㅠ 135. Good 136. Approved 137. I acknowledged everyone listed here, there are people who I am disappointed that they are not on the list, but there is also no one in the list that I objected too. 138. YoonA’s filmography is good. All her works are very good, and she acts very well too. 140. Everyone's form is good, but the acting skills of the female idols are ambiguous. 141. I like YoonA so much 143. (Replied to 140th comment) What?;; As expected, all the malicious commenters are like sh*t. All the 5 females here have a besting acting of their life for at least once, so what are you talking about? 144. Yes 147. IU and Nana are good. No, all the 5 people listed here are goodㅋㅋㅋ 148. For the female acting idols, the votes are considered more evenly distributed. 149. (Replied to 140th comment) ? 152. I’m looking forward to YoonA’s movies and dramas doing well. I’m also curious about the ‘2 O’clock Date’! 153. I agreed with all listed in the article, Nana’s acting is really good. 156. I like Lim YoonA to the point of dying ㅠㅠㅠㅠㅠ 157. King-jeong 158. YoonA is good. I thought her acting was good after watching her works recently 160. YoonA is so likeable these days. I've seen all of her recent works. Now, she is a ‘trust and treasure’ actress.
161. Wow, all of them are K-pop talent. 163.The 1st place for both male and female are Junho and YoonA, ‘King The Land’ couple is really good ㅠㅠ I hope they both do better. The chemistry was good, and their acting was good in ‘King The Land’ 167. King-jeong to all on the list
168. Wow, 1st place is YoonA, congrats congrats!! 169. The movies and dramas YoonA starred in, all received great success, so amazing 171. I clicked in the article shouting YoonA ㅋㅋㅋㅋI hope things go smoothly~ 175. YoonA deserves the 1st place. Her drama and movie careers are all good. 176. Regardless of her career, Yoona really showed off her acting chops with her ‘Confidential Assignment’ and ‘EXIT’, and she did well in King the Land as well. Nana and Kim Sejeong are rather unexpected, and I think Han Sunhwa or Jung Eunji are better. 178. All of them have improved a lot in their acting so it’s even better 180. I feel like all the idols mentioned in the original text and Sooyoung and Eunji are good at acting. 185. YoonA 189. YoonA has a good way of choosing projects ㅋㅋㅋㅋ 191. These are the actors who were active 'this year', but it seems like it includes only those who can be included... YoonA did well in ‘King The Land, and IU and Suzy are the queens of immense popularity who respond right away in surveys like this even if they didn't have any hit films or activities this year. (Just like stars who are ranked even if they are inactive that year when Gallup selects the best OO of the year...) Nana becomes popular because of ‘Mask Girl’ recently. 193. YoonA! 194. Even though Nana is really good, I recognize all 5 people there. 196. (Comment deleted at time of translation) 197. YoonA was such a perfect fit for ‘King The Land’ this time, so pretty 198. I'm waiting for YoonA's next work 200. YoonA! 201. Acknowledged acknowledged 204. I agreed with all the line-up here 205. Waiting for YoonA's next work 208. Line-up approved... 209. No, initially I thought how could Sejeong be in 5th place only, but as I scrolled lower (to reveal the top 4), the more I understood. 212. I only saw YoonA's works for a few seconds in passing, so I had the prejudice that I couldn't get into the character because I heard YoonA's voice that I used to hear.. I recently watched Exit belatedly and was so surprised that it turns out okay. I finally understand why her movies are so successful and how she gets casted so consistently. 214. YoonA is good! Han Sunhwa too!! 215. YoonA is really good 216. Even though I’m not a fan of all five of them, I acknowledged. 217. Oh.. everyone who are good are gathered here 218. Soshi is YoonA, but I was also surprised that Sooyoung was better at acting than I thoughtㅋㅋ 219. ‘King The Land’ influence is huge. Both sides (male and female) came in first place 220. YoonA is really good ㅋㅋㅋㅋ I watched ‘Big Mouth’ and ‘King The Land’ recently, and she did well in both dramas. YoonA would be a perfect match for a little bit of ‘Big Mouth’ – ‘King the Land’ – ‘EXIT’, a bright, cheerful, confident and u undaunted not in a villain way character 221. The experts voted but there are people here trying to start a fight so ridiculousㅋ What is it? ㅋㅋㅋ 224. They are all good 225. YoonA’s latest line-up projects are really awesome ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

Didn’t YoonA filmed a drama in the early days of her debut, she did really well in that too. 265. Agreed, YoonA and Suzy are good at acting 266. YoonA and Suzy are both good at acting 267. Agreed 268. YoonA did really well 269. Agreed for all 270. When will YoonA's next work come out ㅠㅠ I want to see it soon 271. YoonA has become someone that can be trust and treasure (to watch). I am waiting for her next work.

there’s something in beyond evil i’ve been thinking about lately and it’s been said before but my brain won’t relent or relax so here are my thoughts written out for all to see.
i’ve been thinking about how joo won runs away from connection and relationships his whole life— even saying in front of all his new coworkers ‘nah fuck friends who needs them?’ because they are messy and they hurt and people can use it to their advantage. he’s only seen harmful, terrible, transactional relationships and even heard his mother willing to leave him behind as a child. relationships are almost as repulsive as the dirt/germs he constantly tries to clean. (there’s a whole thing there too… about trauma as a child and the need to wash it away to keep things clean and pristine and controlled. about the sharp, coldsterile persona that he uses as a shield to keep everyone out….)
and he watches as real time proof shows in front of him— min jeong and dong sik’s relationship, jae yi chucking eggs at him over dong sik, his father and kwon hyuk, oh ji hwa and lee chang jin, his father and lee chang jin and do hae won, nam sang bae and dong sik’s parents/mentor/whatever relationship…. he sees all of these complex connections and how it causes problems all around but in the end it’s literally the thing that saves him and what he gets wrapped up into without meaning to. he starts having feelings for these people before he can even recognize it; he’s in love with a ridiculous old man before he even gives himself permission to start caring.
the connections he makes are what helps to create the stronger version of himself we see growing towards the end (as his old self crumbles). while his father shows him the negative dark side of relationships— dong sik shows him the other. the acceptance, the drive to protect, love, connection, shouldering the weight together, respecting boundaries and wishes, pushing for them to be better… all the things that friends, love, and connections can give. and joo won finally understands his mistake and what he’s missed for so long and although he doesn’t feel worthy he still understands it. these large, complicated feelings and relationships that he had hated so much and for so long are what allow him to be his own person and enact justice on his father and start new. and if that ain’t the most deeply queer thing i’ve ever seen then idk what is.

Solo Leveling × Tomb Raider King × Pick Me Up, Infinite Gacha (crossover)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
While dungeons began to appear in Earth and humans awakened as hunters, tombs also appeared in certain areas in the world. The latter gave an opportunity for the ordinary humans to test their courage by conquering the tombs and retrieving the treasures, or relics, from the inside before the tomb collapses.
Seo Joo-heon was one of the greatest tomb-raiders that caught the attention of the Hunters' Association and was invited for an interesting job. Some hunters had discovered relics in the gates and they were too busy dealing with the monsters to ever pay attention to it. So, Seo Joo-heon was stationed to work alongside hunters to be in charge of taking relics.
Then, amidst of raiding a dungeon, a group of humans suddenly appeared. The hunters and the tomb-raiders became wary, so both parties pointed their weapons at each other until the leader, who introduced himself as Han Islet, explained that they were led here by a mission, and the so-called system also suddenly glitched shortly after they had entered the gate.
Unbeknownst to them, a war was about to befell the human world. Sung Jin-woo, Seo Joo-heon, and Han Islet must join forces to be powerful enough to defeat their enemies.
An old man from Seo Joo-heon's past life and a powerful relic, Monarchs, and a stage must be conquered before a whole world vanishes — can they handle it?
Jin-woo met Joo-heon when he worked as a miner. Joo-heon remarked how being a miner didn't fit him and should change careers.
Go Gun-hee summoned the two to speak with the humans who appeared in a gate. Han Islet threw them a blunt look with his arms crossed.
"Did you three come from the same hairstylist?" — Yoo Jin-ho. Or Yoo Jae-ha.
Chloe would assist guilds in her available time despite not being awakened as a hunter, but she could rely on her relics.
Julian shows off his lightning powers and Jong-in shows off his flames as they talk about business.
Jin-woo and Han always train together after seeing how good their combat is.
Hae-in trains with Edis and helps her improve. Jenna watches them and even receives tips from the S-Rank, so she starts to tease Han that Hae-in is a better mentor than him.
Jae-ha is jealous of the bond between Jin-woo and Jin-ho.
Jin-chul faints when Gun-hee asked him to watch over Joo-heon, Jin-woo, and Han when they were tasked to conquer a gate in the middle of the street.
Eolka bonds with Seol-ah over their powers and spends meals, together with Irene, who listens to her complaints.
Ilya shows the demons in his relic and Jin-woo shows his army of shadows. Needless to say, Ilya turns into a giddy kid.
Tae-gyu and Jenna get along over being archers and are often found at the shooting area.
Aaron stops by to assist Jae-ha. The latter tears up. "Told ya he can be a baby." Joo-heon told him.
Aaron trains with hunters to improve his skills.
Whenever Jin-woo, Han, and Joo-heon conquered a gate, they would get out after five/six minutes.

I am wondering how did JW get through the first couple days or weeks after DS’s and HGH’s arrest? We watched the drama for 16 episode then many developed the serious brainrot. What does it feel like for JW who has spent the last several months in the case, developed the deep relationship with DS and Manjang people, twisted and turned and endless late nights…then all of a sudden everything came to an end at that night…. Cannot imagine the hollowness he must have felt. How did he get through with just himself ? I bet Hyuk must be there for him but must still be very very hard. I am wondering how YJG and SHK feel after this project. Have they experienced similar withdrawal like us? #mental-dump #just-want-to-chat-with-someone #it-is-good-to-see-jw-smile-after-a-year-but-he-must-have-gone-through-a-lot-of-xxx
Firstly, thank you for your message. I appreciate that you took time out of your day to contact me <3
So... Heartbreak interlude/Post-Canon Han Joo Won? The man of my (albeit minor) worries and concerns? The small baby cherub himself that... gosh, simply put, he needs therapy.
Let's get into it. I'm going to overshare my headcanons and hopefully give satisfactory answers to your questions along the way...
[grab all of the snacks and stay hydrated. I go on about it for about a decade because I don't know how to stfu. As always, excuse my dyslexia pls]
[EDIT 12/07/22: I added some more thoughts because i cannot be stopped... someone stop me pls]
Tumblr media
Okay, firstly, look at that gif, look at the Joo Won we are being presented in the ending scenes and tell me he's okay. He looks so worn out, emotionally suffocated; as if he has put all of his emotions into a glass jar and has been huffing on it just to get a hit. Joo Won is vein and yet, he hasn't had a haircut, he's wearing the same clothes, he has bags under his eyes, he walks with a shyness that isn't like him, etc, etc.
Han Joo Won is a confident (not to be confused with his arrogance) man. We do not see that confidence at the end of ep. 16. I read his body language as someone who has been strung up to dry, through his own doing. He has spent an (almost) year emotionally self-flagellating because of what he did. Joo Won is semi-responsible/directly involved in three people's murders. The guilt must be weighing a tonne on him. That, including his overwhelming feelings of guilt/complicated feelings toward Dong Sik... well, I don't think he would be dealing with it in a healthy way.
Joo Won doesn't scream like he's a "i go to therapy and take my meds and openly talk about my trauma in a healthy constructive way, whilst learning to slowly forgive myself" kind of guy. Quite the opposite.
Tumblr media
(yes, hit your chest with a loaded gun whilst you have an anxiety attack... people, his finger is on the trigger!!! what are we going to do with his man?)
How did JW get through the first couple days or weeks after DS’s and HGH’s arrest? (my thoughts only, based on my wild imagination and lack of knowledge) Joo Won was one of the lead investigators in the national /international scandal of the decade: the murder and cover-up case of Lee Yu Yeon, involving the lead suspect, General Commissioner of South Korea's police force, Han Ki Hwan. He was not the arresting officer but he was a leading detective of that case, working undercover/behind everyone's backs with his colleague from the Inspection Inquiry department at headquarters (from my understanding, it's basically Internal Affairs), who also happens to be the deceased twin brother. [He's also the arresting officer for Lee Chang Jin, Park Jung Je, Jo Gil Goo, and Do Hae Won. that's a lot of paperwork and a lot of court hearings.] Yeeeah..... that's a sticky situation. I fully believe that the South Korean version of the CPS (crown prosecution service) would have wanted Joo Won off that case as quickly as they could because his involvement will make it very messy in court. [Personally, I think HKH would have a solid appeal and I think it might even go through because of Joo Won and Dong Sik's handling of the case. A half-decent lawyer could make a meal out of the relationships/dynamics at play here.] He is also the arresting officer of his partner/ his father's arresting officer... Which is just... yeeeeeeeah. a. lot. So, he'll be doing a lot of paperwork, following procedures, answering SO many questions and I think, just going through the motions, completely and utterly numb to it all. Emotionally, he would have checked out in order to assure he brings justice to the victims and their families.
Tumblr media
But that emotional numbness won't last for long...
I fully believe he would become a media sensation but not because he wants to be. I think the press would follow him around and dig every ounce of his life as they can, so they can sell more papers/get more clicks regarding HKH's case. (they follow him to and from work, sit outside his flat, find all of his favourite spots, contact everyone and anyone who could have dirt on him... basically, make his life a living hell). Also, the fact that Joo Won is handsome and annoying is a factor. He was also correct about the Manyang serial killer, investigated his own father and arrested his partner- gosh, well, there's a lot to be said about him.
Tumblr media
(come on, the insta pages created in his honour would be bountiful. he has nice clothes, great hair, that face, a nice arse that doesn't quit, and a funny personality... He's the young "star" of a modern Shakespearean scandal. it's bound to happen.)
So, I think he would be harassed by the media/public throughout the duration of his father's trial. He'll be ostracized by MANY people within the police force because he's uncovered the extent of the institutional corruption. He'll be a very busy boy, who is on the edge of falling apart 24/7 because life is a lie/gone to shit.
Tumblr media
How did he get through with just himself? I bet Hyuk must be there for him but must still be very very hard.
Okay, so let's get to my headcanons and talk about my juicy (unhealthy) theories of what Joo Won's (almost) year away could have looked like.
It's either he:
He works very hard and keeps his head down. He's quiet and tries his best. He applies himself to prove that he's not his father's son. Perhaps, over time, he reconnects with his mother's side of the family and that helps him develop an identity outside of his father's shadow. Or.... my preferred theory... (it's dramatic, just HJW)
Joo Won is a fucking mess. He is someone who cares more than the average person, he holds himself to a very high standard and is his own worst enemy. He is suffocating with guilt, it drenches him to the point he is soaking; heavy and unable to move. His day-to-day life is a slug that he endures because it is the right thing to do. But at night, or when he's alone, he's a trainwreck. I believe Joo Won has substance abuse issues (as hinted with his drinking in the show) and I think that would get much worse post canon/the interlude. Joo Won drinks to punish/numb himself, he drinks alone and during the day. We never see him drunk but that could be because he's very good at controlling that side of himself... Well, as someone who has control issues like him (wanting to be in control but also, has a very bad temper/easily loses control with the right pressure/if Dong Sik pushes his buttons), what if something so traumatic happened to him that it forces his self-control out the window? What then?
Tumblr media
(this boy loves to punish himself. He's a masochist, I tell ya. Maybe he'll get into BDSM, who knows? it might be cathartic for him; losing control in a controlled setting)
I think he would allow the sides of himself that he's been repressing his entire life to come exploding out. It's messy, ugly, and painful but germination isn't a pretty process. It's a cold undertaking that happens alone, in the dark corners of one's mind, and doesn't always succeed first-try. But like many seedlings, Joo Won can survive in the dark and has an abundance of perseverance. He just needs to spread his roots and keep reaching toward the sun; with patience, he will eventually see the sky.
But he can't do it alone.
There are three important men in Joo Won's life:
His father: Han Ki Hwan
His partner: Lee Dong Sik
His other: Kwon Hyuk
He sent one to prison (who gave him massive daddy issues, let's be honest), he arrested the second (who he had a complicated/queer-coded relationship with) and that just leaves one behind. One left out of three... and you know what? I think in pure Han Joo Won style, he would have become desperate, compulsive and obsessive over Hyuk.
Tumblr media
(there aren't enough gifs of Hyuk. It's a crime. I love him so very much.)
They are the remaining sons of a dying dynasty*; a defamed house that is burning down to the ground, ignited by the molotov cocktail that Joo Won threw himself.... lit with the aid of his partner. HE WOULD BECOME SO RELIANT ON HYUK, I can't even begin to explain it.
*someone play Dynasty - Rina Sawayama
Hyuk would become his everything. He would do anything; he would self-sabotage to hell and back if it meant he got to keep the only person left to him. (his last remaining family member) Hyuk is his friend, his forced rival, his pseudo brother, his sore spot, his sweet spot, and someone (depending on your interpretation of the text) he may felt some non-platonic feelings for, at some point in time (i.e, adolescent crush/sexuality awakening/first love kind of situation.... they gave each other funny looks, okay? don't blame me, the Han family is weird!) Joo Won means a lot to Hyuk. He would LOVE Joo Won relying on him, so he would really step up. [[ I think that in the future, this would cause tension between Hyuk and Dong Sik (kind of like: I picked up the pieces you left, bitch. ) ]]
Anyway, anyway, anyway, in summation: I think Joo Won will have a horrible time of it. He would be so focused on keeping himself accountable that he'll end up punishing himself through self-destructive means. He would reach a point where Hyuk is like "enough is enough" and drags Joo Won's self-pitying arse home and sets him straight (lol). Joo Won would try to reconnect with his Lee family (his mother's family) either physically, or privately/mentally, so he can try to find his true identity (outside of his Han heritage/father). I think they'll be a lot of self-discovery, punishment, and an explosive release of 28 years worth of tension. He'll make many mistakes and it'll be a very sad and lonely process. But through Hyuk's guidance and his own need to carry on, he'll learn to grow and uphold his promise: to never treat anyone the way he treated Dong Sik (never hurt ds again). (ep. 12, 34-ish minutes in) I fully expect him to gradually (over many years) finally accept to go to therapy but I think it would take a very troubling (police) case to get him there. I also believe that it would take years for him and Dong Sik to get to a point where they could even consider exploring what the hell they had going on. They need a lot of time to heal and grow; to accept and forgive each other, and themselves.
Tumblr media
I LOVE the idea of them being messy idiots for years. Who continuously make mistakes and drive the other insane. But they both stubbornly stay by each other's side like glue because they're cut from the same cloth. (Come on, let's be real, has Joo Won been ever been this comfortable with anyone else? So open and real, so himself in every way; even the ugly and immature parts. Dong Sik has seen every side of him and still accepts him. beautiful. and Joo Won wants to be in Dong Sik's life so desperately, he wants to be good for him and bring him happiness- he wants to make his life easier. according to the script, Dong Sik sees Joo Won as his saviour...... that's heavy. what a beautiful bond) No one understands them the way they understand one another. No one will accept them the way they accept each other. No one else will have the shared trauma and therefore, the patience they need to be with one another. I love the idea of them developing a deep friendship. I read their dynamic as romantic, so I would suspect that at some point along the way, they would explore that side of it. Whether they could make it work or not... I don't know (I hope so)
Tumblr media
I am wondering how YJG and SHK feel after this project. Have they experienced similar withdrawal like us?
I'm not too sure. But considering Shin Ha Kyun received an award for his wonderful performance and made a rare appearance on social media to celebrate the 1-year anniversary of Beyond Evil, says that he hasn't forgotten about it. Yeo Jin Goo, on the other hand, can't escape it. He's currently starring in Link: Eat, Love, Kill which is basically a (headache of a show that has massive problems with its tone but is still very charming) het romantic comedy version of Beyond Evil, including basically the same storyline, just told from a different perspective, even including a few of the same actors. So... I don't think he's going to be forgetting any time soon. [We need a season 2, mainly so we get more of these wonderful characters and 10/10 cast/crew. but also because we didn't get an editorial fashion shoot with these two (SHK & YJG) and that is a crime. I said it, someone needs to do time. Joking aside, I don't think they ever will (make a season 2) because if they were to follow jwds's story, they would have to explain some stuff... the actors could see, the audience can see, and the creative team leaned in towards it... so, do they have the bravery to make the show queer? like 100% canon no-second guessing queer. I don't think so.]
Tumblr media
So.... yeah. Before I write a 20-million-words about Han Joo Won (which would make me more pathetic than him lol), I'm going to leave this here. Joo Won is a delicious character with so much depth that he can be interpreted in many different ways. I think that's just wonderful.
Just because I see him as a little weirdo who uses kinky sex, drugs and alcohol to punish/explore himself, whilst pretending everything is fine on the outside, and still somehow making it to work (just) on time, *inhale* doesn't mean you or anyone else has to see him that way. He's fab, this show is fab, and you are fab.
Thank you for your message. I hope this answers your questions. I also love talking about this show, so thanks for choosing me to be the person you chat with.
[EDIT: I should include that I think the majority of Joo Won's grieving and destructive behaviour will happen during the almost year-long interlude. I do believe that once he knows that Dong Sik doesn't blame him and actually still feels affection for him, the weight will be lifted and he go down the path of self-forgiveness. He'll mess up and be silly along the way but I fully can see him one day living a relatively normal life, living with someone (preferably a certain someone) who understands and supports him. His future is FULL of love and discovery.]
As always, if anyone wants to add to the conversation, please feel free to do so. I'm sure many will disagree with me and that's okay, this is just my opinion of one of my favourite fictional weirdos.
May he grow and learn to love himself (he deserves so much love, bless him).
Bye for now!

Park Hae Jin, Lim Ji Yeon Reveal Why ‘The Killing Vote’ Has No Romance
Tumblr media
Park Hae Jin and Lim Ji Yeon, the stars of ‘The Killing Vote’, share some secrets behind the thrilling K-drama based on a popular webtoon. If you are looking for a gripping K-drama that will keep you on the edge of your seat, you might want to check out ‘The Killing Vote’. The series, which is adapted from a webtoon of the same name, revolves around a mysterious masked man who forces people to vote on life-or-death situations.
Tumblr media
(Photo : SBS) The cast of ‘The Killing Vote’ includes Park Hae Jin, Lim Ji Yeon, and Park Sung Woong, who deliver stellar performances as their complex characters. In a recent interview with Allure Korea, Park Hae Jin and Lim Ji Yeon revealed some interesting facts about the show, such as the difference between the webtoon and the drama, and the reason why there is no romance between them.
How ‘The Killing Vote’ differs from the webtoon
One of the questions that the actors had to answer was how the K-drama version of ‘The Killing Vote’ differs from the original webtoon. Lim Ji Yeon, who plays Joo Hyun, the leader of a cybercrime group, said that she was advised by the writer not to read the webtoon. She explained that the drama has a different approach to the story and the characters. “I was told by the writer not to read it. The drama is very different from the webtoon. The characters are different, too.” Park Hae Jin, who plays Kim Moo Chan, a detective who is chasing after the masked man, said that he read the webtoon and noticed some major changes in the adaptation. He said that the drama focuses more on the characters’ emotions and motivations, while the webtoon is more action-oriented. “I read it. The drama is very different from the webtoon. The webtoon is more about showing what happens, but the drama is more about why it happens. The characters’ feelings are more important in the drama.” He also revealed that Lim Ji Yeon’s character has a bigger role in the drama than in the webtoon. He said that in the webtoon, Joo Hyun’s part was played by a male character. “Joo Hyun doesn’t get to play much of the bigger parts in the webtoon. It was done by a male character.”
Why there is no romance in ‘The Killing Vote’
Another question that fans of ‘The Killing Vote’ might have is whether there will be any romantic scenes between Park Hae Jin and Lim Ji Yeon. The two actors have shown great chemistry on screen, but their characters have not developed any romantic feelings for each other.
Tumblr media
(Photo : SBS) Lim Ji Yeon joked that there is no romance in ‘The Killing Vote’ because Park Hae Jin did not want it. Park Hae Jin quickly denied this and explained that romance would not fit well with the genre and theme of the show. “It’s not like I didn’t want it. Because of the specific genre of our show, if there is a romance in it, it feels like it’s interrupting.” He added that ‘The Killing Vote’ is mainly about revenge and mystery, and that romance would be unnecessary and distracting. “The show is about revenge and finding out who Gaetal (the masked man) is. Romance is not needed for that.”

I'm dying to know the conversation that happened between this scene, when Dong-sik is laying out the reasons why Han Ki-hwan could be guilty and Joo-won doesn't want to hear it:

and this scene, a little later in the episode when Dong-sik is clearly in the know about Joo-won investigating his father and they are working together again:

I'm imaging something like this:
Joo-won has spent hours staring at the photographs, dates, and details linking Han Ki-hwan, Do Hae-hwan, and Lee Chang-jin, hoping to find nothing more than coincidence to convince himself that Dong-sik's conclusions are wrong; but the longer he stares, the more a dreadful pictures comes into focus. One where his father has spent twenty years manipulating the police force for his own purposes and concealing a crime he may or may not be guilty of, but is definitely complicit in delaying justice for. He spends another hour staring at a glass of whiskey and his cell phone, his thumb hovering over Dong-sik's name in his contact list. When he finally clicks on it, he expects the line to ring and ring, Dong-sik keeping him waiting, playing his games, testing Joo-won's resilience. Instead, he picks up right away. Joo-won could have said a number of the things that have been echoing through his head since he left Dong-sik's basement , such as, "You could be right" or "He is my father but I can't ignore the evidence for the sake of family" Eventually, he just points out the fact that the last time Dong-sik was at his place and he cooked, their meal went unfinished; they should remedy that. When Dong-sik arrives the next afternoon, Joo-won is in the middle of cooking. From the kitchen, he watches as Dong-sik looks over the board Joo-won compiled linking all the players together. The old board, with Dong-sik's - and Min-jeong's and Lee Geum-hwa's - pictures is gone. While the oven does its job, Joo-won brings him a glass of wine. Neither of them are working today. The Chianti is dry and Joo-won's throat aches enough to regret the choice, no matter how well it pairs with the meal. "What we need," Dong-sik says, at length, "is a loose thread." "A thread?" "To pull on. The three of them together are a strong unit. But there's always a weak link." Joo-won has spent years wondering if he is the weak link in the Han family legacy, a fear that this situation is proving to be true. But Dong-sik is talking about Jung Cheol-mun, and despite yesterday's floundering questions, he bears no hesitation in resting all of their plans on Joo-won's future interactions with Han Ki-hwan. His trust, no matter how oppressed, is still somehow intact. Joo-won will have to contend with wrapping his mind around that fact later, after they've pulled every last thread they can find.
