“Gar firdaus bar roo-e zameen ast, hameen ast-o, hameen ast-o, hameen ast”
What more is left to be said, for Kashmir, after this epic verse of Amir Khusroo. Heaven on Earth dwells in Kashmir and its Ladakh where the angels rest. That is the beauty of this place!
Ladakh - the utopia for every traveller’s wanderlust. How can I decipher the trip was, the awe-inspiring journey to the snow-laden peaks and glass-clear lakes? A visit to Leh Ladakh and it’s obvious why the undisputed beauty of this union-territory is a subject of dispute amongst India, China and Pakistan.
This dream destination can be found in every travel enthusiast’s bucket-list, and everyone is keen on making a mark in life by crossing the boundaries of this magnificent valley-land. A road trip to Leh Ladakh is an adventure to soul and potion to eyes. If this doesn’t motivate to give up everything and visit the place, nothing can, and I guarantee there isn’t a single living soul who won’t crave being there.
Mountains are calling!
The visit to this breathtaking place is all that’s needed for a sabbatical to mind, whereas the clean air and spectacular views are soothing to the soul. I was desperate to tick-off this place from travel-list and took upon the first opportunity I got in July to experience this mesmerizing place.
The Summer-Time Euphoria
Usually, the dare-devils seek out to visit Leh Ladakh during the winters as the snow brings out another beautiful side of this region. Still, the months between June to September are considered the most comfortable timings to plan a trip.
My Leh Ladakh Tour package was planned with two other friends and we opted for the most suitable time, i.e., Mid-July for our trip. Our mundane summer holidays experienced an upheaval of adrenaline rush. A boys’ trip to Ladakh is undoubtedly a dream come true.
Safarnama
This exciting trip was all mind-mapped to us. Our soul was feeling all zen already, and our heart was leaping out just by imagining the pictorial showreel. But the first thing to experience these wondrous moments in real life was actually to reach the place.
The easiest way to get there was by Air, but when have been a squad of all-boys been rational? Hence we opted for what any other guy who was just dying out to be called as an adventurer would do, we travelled, obviously, via Bikes. For road travel, there are two routes to reach Leh, the ground-place of Ladakh:
Leh- Srinagar Highway
Leh- Manali Highway
We heard and read a lot about the Leh-Manali Highway route and hence decided on taking it up for the inception of our journey.
The Leh-Manali Highway
We hired our bikes, the ones with Tibetan flags and all from Manali and rode away towards our destination. This ride was all the more challenging and fun with the increasing altitude and diverse landscapes. Whether it be passing through the vibrant and crowded Kullu valley via Rohtang Pass or the completely isolated tracks through Nakee La, it felt like we have entered a lively painting where nature seems to be the artist.
We took our time juggling between exploring, riding and relaxing. In theory, it was a dream-journey, but life teaches us that to fulfil dreams practically, you need to pay the price of hard work and challenges. This is the first life-lesson the valleys of peace taught us. It took us three days to reach Leh. The major challenge of this journey was adapting to the climate and altitude.
The Beauty called Leh
As a local idiom describes, only the best of friends and worst of enemies pay us a visit is what the loving and heart-warming people of Leh believe. Through Leh Ladakh Tour Packages, there are several sightseeing spots and scenic views. The complete region is a delightful palette With different colours of nature.
Throughout the trip, there were various places and spots whose names came across before us, were in the middle-school Geography classes. Our journey and stay through Leh Ladakh was evidently bountiful for the peace of our mind and soul. While enjoying delicious meals and the company of complete strangers, we understood the compelling power and attraction value this place holds.
Back to Reality
We visited Kargil and paid our tributes to the other places as well as bowing before the other auspicious places in between. It was another three-day journey of coming back after life’s most mesmerizing trip of mine. The Leh-Srinagar route is also very scenic with lakes filled with shikaras. Whether it be the Kargil War Memorial, Gurudwara Patthar Sahab, the apricot village or the peaceful monasteries, you are all set for the blend of fun, adventure, cultures, peace and pride.
The best Leh Ladakh tour packages include the following spots:
Nubra Valley: The tranquillity of Ladakh lies in Nubra. Set amidst the famous pass Shangri La and dividing the Karakoram ranges from Ladakh range, Nubra valley is majorly famous for the sand dunes and camel rides.
Pangong Tso: Pangong Tso or Pangong lake is iconic due to the famous Bollywood scenes shot across there. The migratory birds and the colour changing, soothing water must be an important reason you feel very close to divinity here.
Khardung La: The highest motorable pass in the world. Although this is the most zealous ride as you can feel the thrill and thunder of being at the pinnacle of excitement as well as there are various issues like low temperatures, sudden climate change, inappropriate health, etc. Hence, it is advised that to fully enjoy and experience the fun, take your health seriously.
Magnetic Hill: It had been fabulous of an experience. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a trick of science or a natural phenomenon, but this has been an awe-inspiring experience coming across this pace. It is said to be the only anti-gravitational spot of India and vehicles go in the opposite directions when followed the instructions written on board there.
Leh Palace: it beholds the royal dignity and is a nine-storeyed building with specific views of the most breath-waking beauty of the city views.
Hemis National Park: Ladakh also abodes India's one of the largest National Parks in its territory. Said to be the only national park of India in the north of the Himalayas, it resides in the snow leopards as well.
Tso Moriri Lake: This is the eternal place where time seems to be stopped. It feels like painted with the gradients of sky and aqua colours and yet feels more appealing than any other scenic beauty.
Zanskar Valley: The unexplored landscapes loved for their serenity, and adaptable climate calls for a visit to the Zanskar district of Kargil. During the coldest of days, as the Zanskar river freezes, the Chadar Trek expedition becomes a hot-talk of the town, and everyone is interested in being a part of the world’s most famous and challenging trek.
Gurudwara Patthar Sahib: A very auspicious place bearing the imprints of Guru Nanak Dev Ji in between the stones. People of every religion bow down here.
Kargil War Memorial: Built by Indian Army, in the year 1999, this is a memorial of commemorating the soldiers martyred in the Kargil war. This place holds a special place for national pride and honour.
Monasteries: While taking a bite of the Tibetan culture blended with the Indian one, Leh-Ladakh has various numbers of monasteries, wide-spreading the zen culture across the world. Some of them are Samstling Monastery, Diskit Monastery, etc.
Some of the facts that should be taken care of while planning a trip are:
To ensure you have all the required documents and their sufficient copies to take permissions and easy access.
To carry a proper medical kit along with yourselves.
To have enough warm clothes
To keep a prepaid sim handy as there are all sorts of networks and permission protocols to follow.
To acclimatize yourself according to climate and weather beforehand
To plan out the staying options prior to the visit, since there is a scarcity of hotels on the road.
The trip to Leh Ladakh was full of enthusiasm and over-excitement, though there were times we think better plans could’ve been drafted. But all that ends well is perfectly well. This unforgettable experience has become a page in the diary of my memory which I keep revisiting, again and again, to be at peace just by thinking about the good times.
