Best Underrated Anime Group H Round 2: #H1 vs #H2
#H1: Pro baseball player cares about money
#H2: Girl is sent to family hotel in the country
Details and poll under the cut!
Tumblr media
#H1: Gurazeni
youtube
Summary:
This is the story of Natsunosuke Honda, a pro baseball player—a relief pitcher who has been playing pro in a team called Spiders for 8 years. The team operates as a highly-stratified society, where the player's performance determines his annual salary. Natsunosuke is one of the highest paid players in the game. He measures how good players are by how much money they make, and he intends to be on top and stay there, and as such is always looking for players to challenge and does everything to insure that he is better than they are.
Propaganda:
Gurazeni appeals to me as a show where all the characters are adults and are written as such. I would not say that Gurazeni's art is particularly good, but the writing has a charm to it. It gets into the little details of baseball stats and how they affect salaries, as well as which position pays more. The characters are fun and likable and the story goes some interesting places. I only saw season 1, but it did get a season 2.
Also, Gurazeni's music is pretty good, with a great OP and ED.
Trigger Warnings: None.
Tumblr media
#H2: Hanasaku Iroha: Blossoms for Tomorrow
youtube
Summary:
Ohana Matsumae is an energetic and wild teenager residing in Tokyo with her carefree single mother. Abruptly, her mother decides to run away with her new boyfriend from debt collectors, forcing the young girl to fend for herself—as per her mother's "rely only on yourself" philosophy—in rural Japan, where her cold grandmother runs a small inn. Driven to adapt to the tranquil lifestyle of the countryside, Ohana experiences and deals with the challenges of working as a maid, as well as meeting and making friends with enthralling people at her new school and the inn.
Propaganda:
It’s a really great one season show about a teen girl figuring out who she is and what she wants out of life. She makes friends and creates a home for herself despite having no dad and a lackluster Mother. She grows and blossoms into a better, kinder person who enjoys life. It’s a genuinely sweet anime, and everyone in it is trying their best. It’s a feel good show, and if you need a smile, give it a shot. Frankly, it’s very much character-centric, and you can’t help but root for them and feel for them when they suffer.
Trigger Warnings: Mild Emotional Abuse in the past. The Mom isn’t abusive physically, but she does suck and neglects her kid emotionally, so maybe Child Abuse?

Let’s play a game~
I wanted to share some good animes/mangas/cartoons and discover new ones so I created this tag/ask thing.
Rule: List in alphabet order the animes/mangas/cartoons you started/like/love or was disappointed by, give your top 10 or 5, and let your followers know what you actually followed so for instance, they ask you a letter (ex here: “I - I – Ikoku Meiro no Croisée, Inuyasha”  and you give your opinion about those :D) or for a few names.
Here’s my manga/anime top list only:
One Piece
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Angel Beats
Boku no Hero Academia
Yuri on Ice!!!
Noragami
Code Geass
Dawn of the Arcana
Can’t give a top 10 ;-; (those are the ones that greatly marked me on a long run - or recently for BnHA and YoI)
Numbers – 07 Ghost

D – Deadman Wonderland, Death Note, Death Parade, Detective Conan, Diabolik Lover, Doubt, Dawn of the Arcana, Durarara

Double Points Anime Week 11: Hanasaku Iroha (8/10-8/17)
This year I went through the catalog of studio P.A. Works after realizing how much I loved SHIROBAKO.  I expected I would like Hanasaku Iroha just by looking at the key art.  Little did I know just how much I would end up loving it.
Tumblr media
Ohana Matsumae is an energetic and wild teenager residing in Tokyo with her carefree single mother. Abruptly, her mother decides to run away with her new boyfriend from debt collectors, forcing the young girl to fend for herself—as per her mother's "rely only on yourself" philosophy—in rural Japan, where her cold grandmother runs a small inn. Driven to adapt to the tranquil lifestyle of the countryside, Ohana experiences and deals with the challenges of working as a maid, as well as meeting and making friends with enthralling people at her new school and the inn.
Tumblr media
While the underlying story may not appear to be the flashiest of concepts, I cannot stress how much I unconsciously became drawn into it. And while Ohana is introduced as the main character, a rather large cast of characters all seem to get just about the same amount of screen time as her. Each character goes through successes and failures in attempts to improve themselves. Hanasaku Iroha is definitely a character-driven show and by realizing the dreams and desires of each one, this anime creates a truly colorful atmosphere.
Tumblr media
Genre-wise, Hanasaku Iroha is quite the interesting combination, combining Comedy and Drama in a Slice of Life setting. Many anime have attempted similar groupings, however Hanasaku Iroha seems to stand out among the rest in the balance it achieves between the genres. There are times when you'll want to laugh and there are times when you'll tear up, and this show manages to create these moments in perfect harmony.
Tumblr media
Hanasaku Iroha’s  26 episodes are worth a double 16 points this week, and can be found here.

Best Underrated Anime Group H Round 1: #H2 vs #H7
#H2: Girl is sent to family hotel in the country

#H7: Isekai subversion, now with more women and good writing
Average student Mitsuki Mutou suddenly finds himself transported to another realm. Summoned by the king of this world for the remarkable power he is supposed to possess, Mitsuki is thrown out when it appears that he lacks a Special Concept. Moping about, he encounters a priestess named Menou who explains that Japanese people like him are known as Lost Ones, and such individuals never fail to have Special Concepts.
Menou elaborates that she is part of a church that helps abandoned Lost Ones integrate into society. She invites him to spend the night at her church, where the two can probe the nature of his ability. Eventually, they discover that Mitsuki's Special Concept is actually incredibly powerful and dangerous.
But is Menou's true goal to assist Lost Ones—or the opposite?

Propaganda:

Tumblr media
#H7: The Executioner and Her Way of Life (Shokei Shoujo no Virgin Road)
youtube
Propaganda 1:
An isekai that forgoes the usual tropes and exceedingly dull, whitebread protagonist in favor of a cast consisting more or less exclusively of varying flavors of deranged lesbians.
As a bonus, a certain scene halfway through the first episode made a lot of the worst parts of the anime community SO mad, and I feel like that’s worth something in and of itself.
Propaganda 2:
An isekai subversion that doesn’t feel like it’s subversive for the sake of being trendy! All of its unique parts have lore to explain them, and the world building of the series is super intriguing. The power mechanics are well-thought-out, and the fighting is unique and beautifully animated! Another strong part is the character relationships; I love the various dynamics between the main cast, and I love how none of them are reduced to mere tropes, as anime loves to do with its women. It’s also very funny, and the protagonist is one of my favorites <3333
Trigger Warnings: Child Abuse, Graphic Depictions of Cruelty/Violence/Gore, Suicide. Suicide is basically a deuteragonist’s goal, but it isn’t shown.
