I promise not to make this a habit, but this is a song you have to experience blind. On my first listen through this song caught me incredibly off guard, but it's easily my favorite from Disc 2. The original song is one of my favorite Metroid songs - if not one of my favorite pieces of VGM, period, and one that I have strong feelings about not making it into Super Smash Bros.

Pyro Paper Planes is a frequent contributor to the first two Harmony of a Hunter albums, with a wide range of styles that they nonetheless sink into perfectly (one of their remixes is the best cover of the SR388 theme on the internet, no competition.) This remix pulls the pathos out of the original song beautifully despite being a very different style than the original. I can't say more than that. Just listen to this one and take my word for it that it will make you cry.

Track #04: Bioluminescence

"Bioluminescence" covers an oft-forgotten song from the latter half of Metroid Fusion, a forlorn track that accompanies Samus breaking out on her own and losing direction in the aftermath of a rough battle. This cover opens on underwater gurgling, skipping the original song's choral intro and going into the mysterious A section with a somewhat stripped-down synth instrumentation. The song slows to a pause, before launching into the dramatic B section with added rhythm in the bass and a driving backbeat.

This is one of three remixes that Theophany contributed to the Harmony of a Hunter albums. Their songs generally involve dramatic renditions of the pieces being remixed, and with "Bioluminescence", it goes a long way. Sector 4 Aquatic Depths is already one of my favorite songs in the series for how beautifully sad it is, and for this remix, Theophany draws out the mournful tone while keeping the listener on their feet with the new groove, as if Samus has to keep moving or else the true weight of the situation will come crashing in. The final product is simply gorgeous.
