"So I dragged the family name through the mud? Not you, then?"

(tw for implied/past child abuse/neglect, typical aristocratic bad marriage and society practices, and just generally toxic parent/child relations)

Yelling was a normal occurrence in the Goodkind Manor. It always had been, or so Robert gathered from the way it no longer phased the staff, and the way none of them stood near the still-open sitting room, eavesdropping. Not that anyone had to be: Alfred's voice was higher than his own, but still deep enough to carry when the weasel raised it. And his mother had what should have been a pleasant alto voice, that similarly carried as her own anger grew.

He wasn't trying to listen in, either. Alfred had made it clear - not in words, but in every action he made in each row Robert had seen the fallout of - that his rows with his mother were not something for Robert to save him from. Despite how that first night had gone, Robert would admit Alfred mostly handled them well, matching his mother's ire blow for blow until one or both of them decided to retreat. If it didn't make him so angry, if his chest wasn't always so tight with a protective rage to hear anyone try to cut Alfred down so harshly - in his own home, no less! - he might have been willing to concede that Alfred had certainly inherited his sharp tongue from the woman.

But this felt…different. He wasn't sure what it was, but Alfred's voice had an edge to it that felt more…raw. More brutal.

"There was only ever one rule, wasn't there? There always has been. You just don't get caught. You had a good marriage, a good husband, a good life! Just one little problem: Father couldn't have kids, could he? No, so that threw a wrench in things, because there had to be an heir. How many men did you take to your marriage bed, while Father was on campaign? How many affairs did he tolerate, because he loved you, and he couldn't give you the child you wanted, that he needed? All you had to do was produce a babe that could conceivably be his, and no one would ask those inconvenient questions, would they?"

There was a bark of laughter. As Robert approached the door, he couldn't see the woman's face, but he could see Alfred's. Handsome features twisted in a fierce snarl, a false enthusiasm and bravado as he glared down at his mother.

"No, you had to take faunus lovers. You made the terribly ill-advised choice to not be safe with that one. And everyone knew, didn't they? They knew I wasn't Father's, but so long as I was close enough, they would never say. The game would continue. They'd turn a blind eye, as Father did, because that's how it always goes, isn't it? Except you lost. Because your gamble failed.

"I hope the dicking that fox gave you was worth it, Mother."

The resounding smack filled the small sitting room, and the silence after was somehow worse. Through the open door, Robert could see a faint trail of scarlet leaking from the corner of Alfred's mouth, even as the weasel rolled his tongue across his teeth. One hand reached to wipe the blood away, tongue licking the smear of crimson from his thumb, before he began to chuckle. A dangerous, low, calm noise that was so at odds with the cold fury in Alfred's eyes, that Robert hesitated. He should put an end to things there, give the old bitch a piece of his mind and get Alfred out, but the way the weasel was looking at his mother…Robert was almost wondering if he should be getting her out. Not for her own safety, exactly, but because he wasn't sure Alfred could handle matricide.

"That's all I've ever been to you, isn't it? The one chance you had to make it all up to Father, and then there I was. A faunus. Your shame and disappointment made manifest. And the worst part, the shame of the whole damned thing? He forgave you. When they all tore into you, screaming about your affairs, crowing about how the baby was a bastard, he saved you from them. He forgave you, and he told them that he condoned it, asked it, because he so wanted a child and couldn't have one. He took the brunt of that shame, to save you the humiliation. He just didn't realize that it was worse, doing that, did he? He didn't realize that you could never look him in the eye, knowing he stained his precious honor for you. You could never look at me as anything but the smirch on his honor that you caused." Alfred's voice was raising again, the illusion of calm fracturing as the cold inferno blazed in him, and yet he made no move to touch his mother.

"I could never measure up to him because I was always the sign of your failure. He might have legitimized me in the eyes of the kingdom, but to you I'll always be the bastard that is the sign of your failure to be a loyal, loving wife. And now, the failure to be the mother you always wanted to be. You gambled with both our lives...and you lost."

Alfred reached up to his breastpocket, turning from his mother to start towards the door, handkerchief raising to wipe the line of crimson from his face.

"By the end of the year, you will be moving in with aunt Lolita. I will not walk on eggshells in my own home for the sake of your shattered ego, nor watch my guests worry they offend your pathetic sensibilities. Take who and what you will...but you will be gone, Mother."

Silence answered him...but it was defeated. Alfred's pace slowed, a slight...hesitation entering it. But he kept moving for the door.

"Alfred?" His mother's voice. It was...softer, than Robert had yet heard it. Gentle. Defeated, and subdued...but not unkind.

"...yes, Mother?" Alfred had paused, though he didn't turn around. His mother was still facing the fireplace, not looking at him, either.

"...I do love you." Was it just Robert, or was there a whisper of...pride in that? Buried in the other emotions, the grief, the guilt...the shame. Perhaps it was sappy foolishness.

"....I know. That's why you need to leave."

I like to think that if they ever got off the island, Martha and Toni took him home with them.

They dress him up to the nines and have one-sided conversations (therapy sessions) with him regularly. Martha’s mum doesn’t even question it. Those girls have been through more than words can say. He’s part of the family now.

As is Shelby, who moved in with them to escape her asshole dad, & is now living her best life with her gf & bff, & also hangs with (& has therapy sessions with) Marcus on a daily basis - Wait, who said that??

fatin and leah becoming more and more comfortable with physical affection with each other, and fatin thinking more about her sexuality involving girls

kirin trying to take control and dot fucking owning him and ordering him to go make a fire and then him being like “……” because they all had to use a fucking lighter

and then dot’s just is fucking shocked over how these dumbasses survived for more than a week

The wilds headcanons Spooky edition

Dot is a witch, she prepares for the worst and brings small bags of herbs and salts wherever she goes. She is a solitary hedge witch instead of a coven witch because she prefers to work alone and without the distribution of others. They comes into town every two weeks to restock on supplies. She leaves a protection spell on her doors and windows to ensure nothing can come in while she’s gone and nothing can come in when she’s asleep. She feeds stray cats that often follow her home.

(Round applause for @fruitybishop who helped me with this idea they are amazing ) Kirin is a werewolf, but he absolutely doesn’t look like one. He look like some big fluffy golden retriever instead of a traditional wolf. After being bitten by another werewolf, his nose got stronger to the point where he can sniff out when someone is sinister or has ulterior motives. Everytime he transforms his hair gets longer and more fluffier than the last time. He gets warm very easily due to his fur when he's in wolf form so when he's in his human form he's a human body heater. He runs with a pack and one time, they hyped him up to fight a bear. Was NOT the best idea.

Rachel and Nora are Siren sisters; they live further in the sea on three small rocky islands called Sirenum Scopuli. Unlike some of the other characters, they were born sirens, daughters of a river god Winged creatures that lure sailors to their deaths, they only sing at night to ensure that they aren't seen and the possibility of escape is lessened. Nora plays the harp while Rachel sings the alluring song to draw the sailors in. Sometimes they disguise themselves as humans to go out on the mainland to scope out what times the ships go out to the sea and which ship has the most men on there.

Ivan is a vampire. He writes tons of journals since the moment he got turned to account for the journey of his undead life and he exaggerates the hell out of it. During the Harlem Renaissance, he found an old mansion that seemed abandoned and made it his main home for whenever he comes back from his travels. He dated plenty of famous people through the centuries. He uses his super hearing to listen in other’s conversations and he flies around everywhere he hates walking. The first time he drank blood he went overboard and killed a mayor and had to leave town. He doesn't wear mainly black because he thinks that's lame (he wears a cape)

Leah is a mermaid, she explores shipwreck ships and collects items from the ship and she swims to the surface late to show to Rachel and Nora who never have the time to examine human culture. Her tail is a beautiful sapphire blue colour and scales are up her forearms. Unlike the sirens, mermaids tend to be wary of humans and try to live their lives away from human intervention. Humans who do not heed warnings are usually trapped in a violent storm and never seen again. However, Leah whose curiosity knows no limit goes to land and befriends local humans to gather more information. Also, she accidentally drowned someone by thinking they could breathe under water

Josh is a ghost, he died from tuberculosis back in 1897. For the longest time he was lonely, only able to watch his family live on and die and unable to speak a word to them. With only animals being able to see him, he friended a flock of ducks and for year's the same flock goes by the house and he greets them. By 1923, Ivan found the house and Josh was so surprised someone can see him. Whenever Ivan comes home, Josh is overjoyed and accidentally spooks a victim away from the house (Ivan never is mad and just happily greets him). He can turn the lights on and off and whenever someone tries to get the house that isn't Ivan he knocks on the doors at night and turn the lights on and off and scare the living shit out of them making them leave.

Martha is a green witch. Unlike Dot, she lives on a farm closer to the town. She sells oils and herbs to the locals and some people come to her farm to seek medical help. On her farm, she had rabbits, sheep and cows. By developing a close relationship with them, she harnesses the energy of the nature sources around them. When she gardens, she compliments her flora and greenery and gives them cute names to help them flourish. She carries small potions and wears a black tourmaline necklace and gave one to Toni when she visited. Martha and Dot have weekly afternoon tea chats to catch up at Martha’s farm and Dot buys a potion from her before she leaves.

Raf is a Orc. He lives on the outskirts of town, not because he hates people but mainly because crowds make him nervous and he sweats a lot. Also adding to the fact that he is an orc he would prefer to never attract attention to himself. He sleeps on the ground because with every bed he buys he breaks on accident. The only person he felt comfortable enough to be around was Martha and she goes into town a lot for him. He taken to sewing because none of the clothes he found is ever his size because he is so tall. He mainly gardens vegetables and gives to them Martha so she calls to sell them for him (entirely inspired by Gorgug)

Toni is a werewolf. Unlike Kirin though, she looks like a wolf when she transforms. She doesn't believe in the pack mentality so she is a lone wolf and strays away from wolf politics. She stays at Martha’s farm and protects the farm animals from predators and out-of-town werewolves who pass by. She met Kirin by chance when she caught him in the middle of fighting a bear while his pack cheered him on and helped him cause the bear was winning. When a full moon comes out, Toni locks herself inside the barn and chains herself to a bed. As a result of being a werewolf, she has a larger set of teeth and a hint of gold in her eyes.

Scotty is half Faun and half Satyr, unlike Satyrs, Fauns are not women-obsessed as them and have a strong sense of direction. He once led a werewolf pack in the wrong direction because he wanted to protect the animals that would've gotten eaten if they had gone the right way. He lives in the middle of the forest but goes into town disguised to play his flute and earn cash. He met Kirin also by chance because he thought he was a regular wolf and tried to kill him for his wolfskin. He uses his flute to cast spells on travellers who have ill intentions of venturing out into the woods.

Shelby is a demon, to be specific she is a crossroad demon. There is a specific spot that locals know called the devil crossroads and people only go to strike up a demon in exchange for their souls. People wait till midnight and she shows up underneath the dim light of a lamppost. She gives them at least five years to enjoy their wish and she sends her hounds to give them a heads up that time is almost up and if they run, well, she loves the chase. She comes to Earth sometimes to scope out the bars and sees who would be her next customer and who she could tempt. She started to visit town more often to see a certain werewolf.

Bo is a centaur and he lives with Scotty in the middle of the forest. Normally Centaurs would live in Thessaly but Scotty convinced him to travel with him to a bigger and newer town that doesn't have that many centaurs. As much as Scotty enjoys wine, Bo is unable to handle wine as well so he usually drinks a glass of water when Scotty drinks. He uses a bow and arrow to hunt deer and rabbits and brings them home cooking them stew that would last them days. He bakes bread from scratch and goes to the abandoned mansion to chat with Josh while Ivan is gone.

Fatin is a Fae. Faeries are known for luring children into the forest and swapping them with a faerie changeling. She isn't interested in none of that, though she doesn't mind the fact that people don't talk badly about faeries because of how afraid people are of them. She often visits Dot and helps her with her chores in exchange Dot hands her children teeth (it's better if you don't ask how Dot has it). Dot usually plants roses in her garden if she misses Fatin and want to talk. Once, someone littered in the forest, and when midnight struck, she performed poltergeist in their house.

Henry is a witch, but unlike Dot and Martha, he is a Cosmic witch. Cosmic witches focus on celestial energies and perform rituals based on the elements. He waits till Midnight and travels to the woods to get a clear view of the stars and draw energy from the sky and stars. He keeps up with the natal carts and focuses most of his energy to astronomy and astrology. He carries crystals bought from Martha and learns basic steps to protection spells to keep his house marked and protected. When Ivan met Henry, he mistaken him for another vampire and exposed himself on accident.

anyways im fixing this plot hole and making it better: it is confessors to find love because of their power, and position. as respected as they are, people do fear confessors for their power. and so it’s hard for kahlan to become close to anyone because she has this role she has to fill, a part she has to play. people see her as the mother confessor, and rarely anything else. it is the world she has grown up in that she will never know what it is to be loved by someone. to see someone both worthy of her affections and someone equal to herself. she is hesitant if (or when) there is someone who might be worthy. it is unfamiliar territory for her, and she fears they will become scared by her power or jealous of her position. or will try to use her for their own gain. so to protect herself and her heart, she doesn’t let herself get super close to anyone. because that’s how she was raised and that’s how it’s always been for confessors.

let’s talk about my girl toni shalifoe for a second

 and let me tell you why her love language is physical touch

(if i was more talented then i would provide gifs, but alas.  also this is going to be all from my memory so forgive me if i forget something)

First, let’s talk about her relationship with Martha (something i haven’t seen a lot of people talk about)

If I’m not mistaken, Toni and Martha hold onto each as the plane is going down

Toni is seen multiple times hugging Martha extremely tightly

specifically after the crash and it’s her first time seeing martha with her hurt ankle

Toni comforts Martha by holding her close and singing their various songs

something that Martha returns when Toni has food poisoning

They often sleep near or together on the island-for both warmth and comfort i would assume

Toni is comfortable enough with her to casually touch martha (bumping into her, hand on shoulder etc.)

In Martha’s episode, Toni cuddles up with Martha and holds her as she cries/falls asleep

Now I know what you might be saying “oh they’re just best friends and have been for years” yes i agree and a big part of their friendship is martha being the only one who is (consistently) there for her so naturally, toni would want physical reassurance that she isn’t going to leave. So, yeah, their physical affection has a lot to do with their friendship; HOWEVER 

Let’s look at how Toni interacts with Shelby (specifically after Shelby saves her life

listen i don’t know about Toni, but if a pretty girl straddled me and forced me to swallow a pill to save my life, even if i was half-unconscious, i’d remember it and it would make me feel some type of way

in their first kiss which Shelby initiates, Toni moves her hands to hold Shelby’s waist

when they find the lychee tree, it’s subtle but Toni brushes Shelby’s arm in almost a unconscious way (signaling their relationship has changed and Toni has opened up to Shelby more and trusts her

When they kiss at the lychee tree, Shelby again initiates the kiss and we even get a vocal confirmation of Toni’s hesitation “are you sure?”, but after Shelby agrees, Toni becomes physically more relaxed

she also presses their foreheads together multiple times

During the last kiss we see at the lychee tree scene (before the camera pulls away) Toni not only holds onto Shelby’s wrists as they are cupping her face (she doesn’t want Shelby to pull away) but once she realizes Shelby isn’t going anywhere, isn’t leaving , Toni also holds onto Shelby’s face with both of her hands, before holding her head with one of them

THIS IS THE ONE THAT SENT ME (and convinced me to make this thread) but when Toni and Shelby are having their conversation on the cliff, Shelby reaches out and cups Toni’s face AND TONI LEANS INTO HER TOUCH (her face is so soft, she’s baby)

Also in the last episode when Rachel is in the ocean (shark attack) Toni and Shelby run onto the beach (looking like concerned girlfriends) and there is a shot that makes it look like they’re holding hands and Mia (the actress who plays Shelby) confirmed they were holding hands :’))

the wilds college AU headcanons Part 2

toni skateboards to her classes. she owns a pennyboard and carries it everywhere

she is not very careful tho and she falls frequently especially when she gets distracted by pretty girls

shelby is a tour guide for the school

once toni had a bad wipeout as shelby’s tour was passing. shelby will never not make fun of her for it

dot and rachel have gamer nights together. sometimes toni and nora join them

fatin proposed a “girls night” as a way to get leah to do self care more often and now once a week they do face masks together. it’s a tradition now

martha loved the idea so fatin invited her too. martha tried to get toni to come once but it was unsuccessful

nora and leah bake cookies together on the weekends in the communal kitchen. rachel hangs out with them but she never contributes to the baking

shelby and leah are the only ones who can drive

dot takes advantage of that and makes them take her to all the drive thru’s around the town

shelby doesn’t mind driving her friends around but its “my car my music” so everyone has to listen to country music and taylor swift

the one time shelby chose dare instead of truth Fatin dared her to kiss toni.

they both immediately protested it and expressed their disgust but then they both got offended because “wow kissing me is not THAT bad you asshole”

after the party shleby and toni had to carry a drunk martha back to her room and put her to sleep. 

shelby walked toni back to her dorm cause it was late. they kissed in front of toni’s door but shelby run away. now they are both confused cause they dont know if it was just a drunk kiss or something more

You are absolutely getting both of these because they were hellishly fun to figure out lol.

James' team is mostly heavy hitters, with a couple of seriously tanky mons that balance. His Serperior is his pride and joy, though the Grovyle was his starter in this version (his usual starter, if anyone cares, is actually a Piplup that is now an Empoleon).

Alfred's ground team is. A choice, to say the least. Alfred himself is a strong DPS/glass canon fighter, and his team is primarily made of heavy-hitters who can get in and out. But he does have a few more stand-up brawlers, and you should watch out.

random the wilds headcanons post-rescue/bunker (also assuming everyone’s alive... hopefully) 1/?

-since leah is the tallest in the group she always crouches down to everyone’s height when they get in arguments

-fatin secretly loves going to cheesecake factory with shelby

-toni was never a fan of taylor swift but shelby is a huge fan of her so one night toni listened to all of her albums and is obsessed.

-nora gives leah a new book for her birthday everytime and leah does the same

-toni plays mini basketball games with rachel all the time

-martha got a dog and named him marcus

-dot loves watching family feud and jeopardy and is the type of person to say if they went on the show they would win

-dot and nora also always watch it together

-leah got a journal after everything and journals all of her happy moments with the group now

-for game night fatin always suggests doing some sort of game show just so she can be the host

So... I headcannon Shelby as turning to academia to deal with her relationship with faith, religion and sexuality. Like I totally see her reading the Quran, the Torah, studying papers on Zorpastrianism, watching late night documentaries on Scientology. Her doctoral dissertation is on the oppression of female sexuality in first century Christianity.

I know a lot of peeps headcanon Shelby as kinda bimboish, I know there is some evidence to that effect ("How do you say thank you in native American?""Deus ex what?"), but I think that ignorance comes from lack of exposition to a lot of stuff because of her upbringing. When she is talking about religion, (not even just her own, remember the whole "Hot as hades" exchange?) which happens to be the subject she has been most exposed to, she is knowledgeable and passionate (if misguided because of, again, lack of exposition to other sources).

So yeah, I headcannon Shelby in thick rimmed glasses and a tweed jacket (which she is wearing unironically, unlike Leah), watching the stars with Toni while they exchange mythological stories about the constellations.

Okay but concept:

Rachel and Shelby being Fitness Bros™️

Part of me loves to imagine the Unsinkable Eight living together after the island (once they turn 18 of course) and their house/appartment becoming a sort of safe haven like the island where they can just speak freely and be open about everything, because all of them have become comfortable with each other

So yeah I imagine them living together and going to different colleges around their home (I haven’t really thought over what they’re majoring in)

For the first few days they’re obviously all adjusting to living together, and I feel like they may actually fall back on old habits from when they were on the island out of familiarity

One of the newer habits is Rachel and Shelby working out together

It starts one morning a few weeks into living together, when Shelby, awake earlier than usual and dressed and ready to go for a morning run, stumbles across Rachel slipping her shoes on for her own morning run

Prior to this, the two of them had been running separately, and Rachel hadn’t even been aware Shelby went for a morning run because she would leave later and her route was a lot shorter than Rachel’s

“I get lonely after a while. I’m not used to working out alone,” Shelby says, before her eyes light up and she suggests they run together

Rachel is against it at first, and takes her usual route on her own, but after a few days of Shelby waking up at the same time as her, she decides to give in

Turns out, it helps

Shelby doesn’t feel so lonely on her runs now that Rachel’s there to keep her company

She also notices that Rachel’s route was not only extremely long, but that she also rarely took breaks on it, leaving her completely exhausted afterwards

Shelby manages to convince her to start taking more breaks throughout her run, and to shorten the route a bit

It also came with benefits for the others in the house, because by the time Shelby and Rachel usually get back from their runs, the others are still asleep, meaning that the two of them, who are the best cooks in the house, usually decide to make breakfast for themselves and the others

This may or may not earn them extra kisses from their respective girlfriends in the morning

Occasionally one or two of the others join them, with Toni joining them the most often, when she either couldn’t sleep but didn’t want to leave Shelby’s embrace the night before, or she feels her leaving their bed and can’t fall back asleep afterwards

She doesn’t really like running as much as the two of them, but it gives her extra waking moments in the day with her girlfriend, so she’s fine with it

They don’t always run together. Sometimes one of them is sick or is still asleep or is “busy” with something (or someone) or they’re just not feeling up to it. On these days, they’ll either wait and see if someone else wants to run with them, or they don’t run at all.

This applies to when they start working out in a local gym together, too.

Shelby gets too lonely and Rachel overdoes it when they’re working out on their own, so it becomes an unspoken rule that either they go together or they find someone to go with them, or they don’t go at all
