it’s so difficult to choose solely one , but truth be told if it hadn’t been for loki idk if i’d ever fallen in love with tom . so it’s pretty self-explanatory that my favourite character is loki. i remember watching thor (2011) at the cinema and being completely starstruck by loki/tom . my “friends” said i was weird for liking a villian ugh . he’s so cute and tom is wonderful <3

I mean, don’t get me wrong. Loki is very well dressed. But there’s just something about the simplicity and efficiency of Captain James Conrad’s soft blue t-shirt, black jeans, and the crisscrossed belt, straps, and holsters... not to mention the way he holds that gun, binoculars, steering wheel...katana.

It’s that time of year again where we all come together to celebrate Tom Hiddleston’s birthday. This year we are going to be hosting Hiddlesweek again and we would love it if you could join us as it’s Tom’s 40th!

We’re keeping the same themes that we introduced last year, and hopefully it will continue to make the event more accessible for everyone who wants to join in but doesn’t normally create content on Tumblr.

How did YOU become a Hiddlestoner?

My introduction to Tom was through the first Thor movie. I had actually for a brief moment mistaken him for French actor Gaspard Ulliel. It was back when the first Thor posters came out. I don’t know why, but I thought they favored a bit. I kind of thought through the eyes they had similar features and their smiles were alike (especially Gaspard’s Hannibal Lecter look I saw the resemblance).

I didn’t have a name to Tom’s face, so that’s what I had come up with. I quickly learned who it actually was, but I still unfortunately had never heard of Tom Hiddleston the actor. Once I saw the movie, I thought that he was great in the role of Loki.

In July of 2011, when I saw the first Avengers trailer I spotted Loki. I thought, “Hmm, is that Loki? He looks really…different..” The “different” I was noticing was definitely something starting to happen.

In early 2012, I saw War Horse. I immediately recognized him as “Loki” from Thor. While I thought he was handsome and amazing in the role of Captain Nicholls, that is where it ended.

By May of 2012, I had been heavily anticipating The Avengers. Once Loki came onto the screen, I was hooked on him.

In the days following, I had to find all I could about Tom. Everything from his interviews to all of his other work. Loki’d was one of the first videos I found of him.

I loved how he could be both gorgeous and hilarious at the same time. After watching more videos and interviews of him, I Ioved his personality. How he presented himself as such a gracious, humble, intelligent, and truly remarkable person. And that is when I became a Hiddlestoner.

Almost eight years later and here I am!

tom hiddleston + elizabeth olsen; i loved their chemistry in I saw the light (2015). though they’re both stars of the mcu, they’re characters haven’t yet shared the screen and i’d love to see that. i think they’re so adorable , their friendship is so cute <3

Hiddles 40th Birthday Week 2021

Day Six (belated): Monday 8th February

How did YOU become a Hiddlestoner?

It began with Loki.

I can't remember what I saw first - Thor or Avengers - because when the first phase of the MCU was getting off the ground I was dealing with personal issues and serious ill health which were pretty difficult to deal with as a 21 year old. I just remember Loki being such a commanding presence, with a dramatic flair and mischievous twinkle that no other character seemed to possess, nor any other actor seemed to bring to life with such elegance and class. I'm not afraid to root for a villain if they are well written, funny, engaging and have a complicated and empathetic backstory (Loki in a nutshell). Marry that with an actor with Tom's incredible talent and it's no wonder he made an impression when I was only half paying attention.

Over the years I knew of Tom Hiddleston, though he was at the back of my mind (I'm ashamed to admit, lol). He was a highlight and delightful scene-stealer in Thor: The Dark World and then he moved away from the MCU and he sort of fell off my radar.

I remember vaguely hearing of the attention (and unwanted) he garnered during The Night Manager era, but I never actually watched it or looked too closely.

Eventually it all came back around to Loki.

Rewatching the MCU catalogue in preparation for Avengers: Infinity War, I began to really appreciate all he had to offer. Loki's arc in Thor was so well performed, especially the confrontation with Odin, I just melted for him. The whole God-tier good-looks certainly helped. 😏

So I did a bit of goggling, binge-watched The Night Manager (oh god it's so good) and then I eagerly flung myself fell headfirst down the Tumblr-Hiddlestoner rabbit hole and after roughly 3 years and an unhealthy collection of gifs and fanfiction I'm still here admiring this wonderful, talented and gorgeous man.

Though some of it has to do with all the incredible characters he's brought to life with such sincerity, a large part has to do with what an absolute sweetheart he is in real life. His unending exuberance coupled with his compassionate, thoughtful intelligence and passionate, hard-working nature is what has kept me coming back.

Wherever he's at in these crazy times, I hope he's safe, healthy, happy and enjoys his birthday. 🎂

Favourite friendship: Tom Hiddleston and Kenneth Branagh

Because Tom’s career would probably be quite different without it. Sometimes life’s opportunities are about meeting the right persons at the right time.
