My spouse got us an ARG put out by a local theater. It's sci-fi/horror themed and the clues take us around the metro areas. Today we went on our first adventure and spent a few hours walking around downtown areas we've never been to before. we sat in a cemetery and a bookstore to listen to clues and had a really yummy vegan lunch.
It was such a nice way to end spring break and I loved spending the day with my partner outside of the house 😊

Orange-Cello: DIY Drinks!
Limoncello is great. But...hear me out...orange instead of Lemons and make the vodka flavored...if you use Vodka at all. How did this start? Besides being an idea in my head for like...ever, my sister had 3 bags of Oranges from one of her trees. Let’s jump in:
Tumblr media
So, lets start with the basic Recipe:
10 oranges (peeled to use the rine only)
750 mL of Vodka (flavored optionally) ($10-$15)
Mason Jars (800 ml) ($10-$15)
Mason Jars (236 ml) ($10-$15)
Funnel
Sugar
Water
Directions:
Peel the rine off of 10 oranges
Place orange rine in mason jar
Fill mason jar with vodka
Let sit for 5 days
After 5 days, strain the rine out of the mixture
Make Sugar water (generally 1-4 cups of water, 2-2.5 cups of sugar)
Mix together, taste to check
Bottle and Label
Distribute
While there is a necessary chilling period for about one or two days after sugar water and alcoholic mixture comes together, it usually will do so between the time you are done making it and when you distribute it. I would label the bottle with: date bottled, type/flavor, your name. Maybe your contact information if they want more when they run out, ya know just in case you wanted to start a side hustle.
What prompted this post? An experiment of course. So we had about 40 oranges and got four alcohols to mix: Creme de cocoa, Wildberry vodka, strawberry lemonade, and peach mango. Originally I was thinking something like blueberry, cherry, vanilla, and chocolate would mix well-but it was hard to find those at Total Wine & More. The other interesting thing is doing the process with something not a vodka, a liqueur. In trying to use the whole orange, once we scraped the rine off-we cut and peeled it. We put the oranges in the freezer, maybe to candy or use in the alcohol after? We used the peels as compost in the backyard for the plants, and a few for the birds I feed.
So today we drained, tasted, made and mixed in sugar water. You can make orange (or lemon) cello with not vodka! The liqueur was probably my favorite, orange with chocolate and sugar. Yeah, nothing wrong there. The berry was smooth, so was the peach mango. The lemonade was a citrus bomb, but my sister liked it. We added fruits to it, and not only did it look pretty, ya know those fruits are going to be better than the drinks once it gets past its final resting phase. I look forward to trying limoncello cream, yeah if you do limoncello but use milk instead of water (in the sugar water step)...yeah happening next time. Also, mason jars to make and distribute is a must. Otherwise, the idea that I can play with Gin and Oranges...also very exciting! Stay tuned!

I am, with each passing season, extending my catalogue of gin rickeys! And happily, too! They make, I find, a beautifully sharp and refreshing drink, and refreshments are much needed lately! These Hot Lemon Rickeys add a bit of heat to the mix; it’s like sipping a Summer day! Happy Friday, friends!
Ingredients (serves 2):
8 ice cubes
½ lemon
60 millilitres/2 fluid ounces (4 tablespoons) Limoncello
90 millilitres/3 fluid ounces (6 tablespoons) London Dry Gin
a few dashes Angostura Bitters
chilled seltzer water, to top
hot chili peppers, to serve
Fill two highball or large glasses with ice cubes. Cut two slices into the lemon halve. Add lemon slices to the glasses, and pour in Limoncello and Gin. Add a couple of dashes Angostura Bitters in each glass, and top with chilled seltzer water. Cut the bottom of both chili peppers, and garnish each glass with one.
Serve Hot Lemon Rickeys immediately. Cheers!

Fill your house with the scent of spicy gingerbread. It will waft out of the oven most enticingly as your biscuits bake. They smell pretty good once they’re out of the oven too. Enhanced with a little limoncello icing, they’re warming, chewy and delicious. Though you can use lemon juice instead. Eat just as they are, hang them up as festive decorations or pop into bags for gifts. https://tinandthyme.uk/2014/12/spicy-gingerbread-with-limoncello-icing/ #limoncello #homemadegift #ediblegifts #giftideas #eat #cookblogshare #bakersofinstagram #tinandthyme #warmfromtheoven #biscuit #bake #christmasdecorations #bakers #christmascookies #gingerbread #iced #hang #homemade #bakersofinstagram #instacookies #decorations #gingerbread #treedecorations #festivecookies #smell #enhanced #christmasdecorations #bakersgonnabake https://www.instagram.com/p/CmEaeyFIj51/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Would Italy be as sweet without Limoncello? Of course! But still.... Look on for great recipes to make your own!
Limoncello liqueur is one of the most beautifully perfect drinks to enjoy on a hot summer day. It’s tart, it’s sweet, and it’s incredibly refreshing—think of it as a boozy lemonade for grownups! Serve it ice cold straight-up, or stir it with club soda for a fizzy lemon cocktail. Classic limoncello is fancy enough to serve to guests (or give as a gift!), but simple enough for even a kitchen novice to make.

Character Focus: Romeo (Part III)
Omar and Romeo, each in their own way, act as mentors of sorts to Laurie and Erik. They both quickly get attached to the boys.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Romeo has been the only one to notice that Laurie and Erik's relationship might hide something more. Probably because he's very good at keeping his feelings hidden too. But conversations like this one with Erik may have set him thinking.
Tumblr media
But if he wondered at that point, it was quickly forgotten because this was also the night he met Jamie, Gloria's cellist friend! Who dropped heavy hints just in case 'cause, you know, (I quote) "the man is cute".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In the end, Erik and Gloria weren't those who got some that night...
Tumblr media
Jamie acts so disillusioned that Romeo tells him the truth: that he's still married and about to be a father. Jamie reacts... unexpectedly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
By accepting Romeo just the way he is, Jamie unknowingly unlocks something in Romeo's heart. When Romeo goes on "paternity leave", he takes the time to go and see Jamie so that he doesn't feel abandoned. This starts to feel like the first serious relationship Romeo has ever had.
Tumblr media
But Romeo is now a father. And little Vincenzo is heir to the Pastorini legacy. What will that mean for him? His future hangs on Romeo's decisions for his family activities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When Romeo gets back to Anne Arbor, he realizes just how much he has missed the gang.
Tumblr media
The relationship between Laurie and Erik has suddenly deteriorated but even Omar doesn't have any insight to offer.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He doesn't really have the opportunity to dig into this, because he's come for something else. He demands Laurie to set a clear date for the end of his assignment. By opposing Laurie for the first time, he asserts himself as his equal.
Tumblr media
Laurie asks for Romeo's participation to "one last move" against the Hei clan. It's still quite unclear but Romeo at least knows his time in Anne Arbor is coming to an end. But what about his relationship with Jamie? If he wants to give this a chance, he first needs to be completely honest with him...
Tumblr media
And once again, Jamie doesn't seem put off. Jamie has his own complicated history (with Ash - you can read more about it here) and now that he's found someone who seems to like him back, he's not ready to let go.
Tumblr media
Romeo has been asked by Laurie to arrange for Gloria to meet a notorious conductor on the lookout for talented musicians for his temporary orchestra in Los Aniegos. He also knows that Laurie specifically wanted to see Gloria play.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That is how he suddenly understands what must have happened.
Tumblr media
This is all the more frustrating to him that he is very well aware of the reasons why Laurie pushes Erik away. Guilt has guided Romeo's whole life, and like Laurie, he didn't think he had the right to be happy.
Romeo goes to Tokyosou with Omar and Laurie to convince the Umeda family to join their alliance against the Hei clan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He is dismayed to find out that Laurie had sex with the Umeda daughter and therefore now seems to use physical intimacy as a way to get information. He sees it for what it is: an escape mechanism.
Tumblr media
When they get back and Erik is waiting for Laurie, demanding a conversation with him, Romeo knows what it must be about. Erik has been sent to Los Aniegos, the same place Gloria has now conveniently moved to. He tries to comfort Erik and invites him to his place. But Erik is in a very bad mood and unwilling to confide. He gets drunk on Romeo's homemade limoncello instead.
Tumblr media
Romeo does manage to get some points across though. Including the fact that he has guessed Laurie and Erik's situation.
Tumblr media
Laurie now confirms that the "last move" will be a mission in Shang Simla to destroy the Hei clan's main source of income: the plasma fruits crops. And that Romeo will be free of his bonds after that.
Tumblr media
Which prompts Romeo to ask Jamie to come live with him in Monte Vista once the whole business is over (on the condition that he doesn't die!).
Tumblr media
Laurie and Romeo now address each other as equals, both (reluctant) mob bosses but as close as can be to being friends. When they go back to Northeney for the first time since Luca's execution, they discuss for the first time Romeo's father's last words.
Tumblr media
Will Romeo survive the Shang Simla mission? Will he get to be happy in Monte Vista with Jamie? Stay tuned. ;)

I've spent the day at my grandma's, picking strawberries and making jam, and because I didn't have sunscreen for the first 20 minutes, I have acquired a very weird sunburn from the straps of the sports bra I was wearing.
Homemade jam is so good and so easy to make (picking the strawberries is definitely the lion's share of the work) and I'm thinking about canning a couple different types of preserves to make gift baskets for certain hard-to-shop-for people for christmas. Strawberry jam, hot pepper jam, homemade parsley-garlic butter, maybe some rosemary salt or other herbed salts? I'm growing a lot of herbs right now. I might try either a mead or wine, or maybe a limoncello sort of thing, and I really love a good lemon curd, but I've never tried making it from scratch.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
What I don't have is a pressure canner, and I think I need to look into getting one. I'm finding that I still love to cook for people but as a single person household it's harder to do that, so it would be nice to vent that urge into preserves and other shelf-stable homemade goods.
Also I'd really love to get into cheesemaking, but that seems like a bit of an undertaking.
