#NOTE: if you use neocities to hotlink (i.e. host images elsewhere) without a subscription you can potentially get your account banned #depending on how much bandwidth youre using. its technically against TOS #i HAVE done it before and my site's fine but that was on cohost and. well. lets just say thats not taking up any bandwidth anymore

A quick explanation of hotlinking: If you are posting an image to AO3 and the image is hosted on Neocities, that's hotlinking, because the site that is using the data (AO3) isn't the site that's hosting the data (Neocities).

Imagine someone you know is hosting a party. You're not invited, but they want you to make a dish for it, for free. If you're on good terms with this person and don't have much else going on, you might make a small dish for them. But the more people they want you to prepare food for, the more of an imposition it is for you. Ten people, okay, maybe. Fifty people? That's pushing things. One hundred people? Uh, I'm sorry, I don't work for free. More than that? Yeah, no, you're banned from even asking me to cook for you ever again.

That's what hotlinking is like. You're trying to serve someone else's food at your party without paying the chef. If they were invited (if it was their website), that might be different, but otherwise? Rude as hell.

If a website offers this voluntarily, like squidge.org or imgur, that's different; but if the website doesn't allow it, having the images you're hotlinking suddenly stop working is one of the nicer outcomes.

So it seems like some of you might be interested in learning more about Dreamwidth.

Listen, here's the thing: Dreamwidth is not slick. It is not fancy. Its base code was originally put together some two decades ago or more, and it looks like it. It can't do much with images and definitely not with video—like, I think there's some way to embed video, but I have no idea how to do it, and hosting it on Dreamwidth is, uh...

The point is! Dreamwidth is a lot different from Tumblr. It's closer to Tumblr than it is to Facebook or Instagram, but it's a lot more old-school internet than Tumblr is. And that means that, for anyone who wasn't on the internet some ten, fifteen years ago, there's probably going to be a steep learning curve. It can take more effort to post things there, and more effort to find your people, its image hosting capacity can charitably be described as both "limited" and "poorly organized", and overall it may still never be the kind of website where you, personally, will want to spend a lot of time or do a lot of things. Dreamwidth does not and will never have an app, for pretty much the same reasons as AO3.

But there is one thing I can guarantee, and that is that Dreamwidth is willing to fight for us and our rights. They're already doing so.

Starscream - Unlike many seekers who are naturally reactive, Megatron beat the reaction out of him. Where one would normally snap if something were to be waved in their face, Starscream will flinch back but make no move to bite or posture.

Thundercracker - Because of his denser frame he often puts himself in harms way for his trine, overestimating himself at times. Unsurprisingly, he has the highest injury count.

Skywarp - Considering his processor is taken up by his warp drive and mapping software, he often finds himself in situations he doesn't remember getting into. In the beginning of the war this was a major problem.

Dirge - Dirge struggles with his standing in his trine, often uncomfortable by their constant fighting.

Thrust - Believing he should be trine leader, he has made a few attempts on Ramjet's life. he is unsure as to WHY he keeps it up or why Ramjet stays trined with him.

Ramjet - Ramjet loves his trine but the truth is he never wanted to be trine leader, he's not sure what to do when it comes to Thrust and Dirge. Though, he knows better than to allow Thrust that role.

Bitstream - His hubris often gets the better of him, resulting in many beat downs from other Decepticons.

Nacelle - Nacelle was originally a slave before the war, a servant under one of the senators. He got by due to his quiet and elusive nature.

Hotlink - He has a major soft spot for Nacelle and Bitstream, it's often used against him for others to get what they want from him.

Blackout - Blackout struggles with letting go, letting people go to be specifically.

Slipstream - No stranger to starvation.

Acidstorm - His own ability causes him to be in the medbay several times a day.

Novastorm - He keeps a holo of his conjunx and sparklings, it's a reminder of why he took in Sunstorm and Blazewake.

Ionstorm - Honestly there's nothing going on with him he's just a major glitch.

Sunstorm - Sometimes a thought crosses him, a small wonder if Primus gave him this power to punish him rather than gift him.

Cloudcover - He constantly blames himself for Sandstorm's death, can't stand looking at Blazewake.

Sandstorm - Before his death, he had promised he would take Blazewake through in electrical storm. Guess what didn't happen.

Avia - She was attached to Wheezingarrow like a leech, always exclaiming how she wanted to be a medical assistant like him. After his death she lost that dream.

Chemtrail - Having lost her creator, sire, and adoptive sire, she's a bit fussy over her trine. She's almost constantly fussing over Blast and Blazewake, scared to death she might loose them.

Blast - As the war continues, Blast slowly looses his confidence. Each bad injury sets him back and he has to regain himself.

Redwing - He often feels a hopeless, after what happened to Knockout, being unable to save his own trinemate, and witnessing Avia's tumble into grief, he's not sure if he could even be considered a medic at times.

Blazewake - After flying through his first electrical storm he buried himself in Chemtrail's arms and Chemtrail would keep it to herself that he cried.

Wheezingarrow - Wheezingarrow's last words were a joking request for Redwing to find a better medical assistant.

hey just so you know discord hotlinking finally officially ended so if you had pictures hosted on discord somewhere (like in a fanfic or whatever) you should switch to another host asap

all discord image links in the older format (i.e. without the little temporary url ending bit) will no longer work, even if the images were posted on discord prior to the change. we were warned about this months ago but a lot of people had been wondering whether older images would be grandfathered; the answer is evidently no.

there are a few free hosting options that allow hotlinking around; be aware that imgur, neocities, and dreamwidth prohibit it (you can technically hotlink if you have a paid neocities account but they still discourage doing it.) if you're looking to host nsfw stuff the options are even fewer; personally i've been using squidge, but it's run by one guy which means that if the guy's server goes down, everything goes down, which makes it so that sometimes, pictures will be gone for a few hours to a couple of days. (this isn't a criticism, btw; i think offering free hosting to people in fandom like this is an incredible gesture. i'm just giving a warning for people who are used to online services that never go down.)

i don't have a list of hosts handy unfortunately, tho i know there are some floating around, i just wanted to post about it and kept forgetting. i've been knees-deep in replacing all my links these last few days, thankfully i had the foresight to rehost everything 4 months ago when the announcement first came out and had just been too lazy to switch links around so it wasn't too much of a hassle.

I dunno if anyone still plays Miitopia, but I’ve been making G1/G2 bots and OCs in it. There are three different models of seeker so far, not counting the conehead. Each one has a different head sculpt because I can never remember how I made it last time.
