Interviewer: Sherlock, anyone knows Sherlock? Obviously, it has been wonderful, but you had said that being in Sherlock that was magic. Why do you think that?
BC: Um… It was a lot of things. It was Martin. It was a modern era take on it. It was Steven… first of all, Steven Moffat and Mark Gatiss took something they were obsessive fanboys over with total respect, and they crafted a modern version of it with huge (amount) details, hugely rewarding loyalty towards the original stories, but with a very witty plot twist. And I think it was also, you know, it was the dawn of Twitter, and this guy was on the internet, and John Watson was blogging. And I think there was a synchronicity where television became, you know, it was pre streaming. It was sort of a water-cooler moment made digital. And I think that's why it went global. And I, I don't know, maybe it was the part that had just been waiting for me at the right time as well. I just loved it. It was just a heck of a thing. And again, the mental geek a bit. He had to be in the digital space the equivalent of the computers. He had to have an AI speed so that he was speaking as fast as most people think, but very quickly. And that was an acting challenge, and also to some extent having him work on this character, how that fits in society now, where you have asexuals, autists, whatever those, you know, you know, whatever theories of those kinds of wonderful superpowers are, you know. And I think that spoke to a lot of people, that he had a superpower. And socially incredible also such a lot of people take pleasure of other people being vicariously rude or straight, or direct.
Interviewer: No filters for him.
BC: Yeah, no filters for Sherlock. And I think that is a part of his appealing. He's brilliant. Brilliant, brilliant, brilliant, brilliant mind.
Interviewer: What was the first time you walk around the street without being unnoticed?
BC: Oh, you know, it was a particular type of hair, which I don't normally have. You know, I have dark hair and I don't usually have it that long. When I just stepped out of some, you know, pre-production, it literally was that I'd go to the hairdressers and come out, dyed and with the shade, and people literally crack it and sort of, oh, Sherlock! It’s him. It was the first time. And I remember when we were making it, Martin was already very famous from the Office. And when we kind of spent time with each other, started all sorts of, you know, people would sort of go, oh, this is Tim Canterbury! ‘Yeah, yeah, I mean, he's being younger than me, doesn't he? Yeah, yeah…’ He just joked about it.
Interviewer: He's such a fun and nice guy.
BC: Yeah, he's great. He's very funny. One of the funniest human beings I've ever met. And just so inventive and brilliant. And he filled that role with so much nuances and care. He's a precision artist, he's technically brilliant, but he's also a musician I mean, he's got jazz in there as well as every other kind of music. He's wonderful to work with, and like I said, I think that was very early in my answer, that was a huge part of it - that chemistry - that I liked to be there really well.

Fanfic Writer Interview

I got tagged by @curiouspupsicle for this little AO3 author interview thingy, and I’m avoiding writing the next hard chapter in one of my WIPs, so here goes!
What fandoms do you write in? Good Omens! I’d never written fanfic before S2 took over my brain, so this is my sole (soul!) fandom. How many words have you published in 2024? So far I’ve published 337,617 words this year but have several chapters of two WIPs still left to post before the year’s end.
What is your greatest achievement this year? In writing? Well, my fic This Phantom Life was a really important one for me. I call it a trauma-dump fic, but essentially, this was a story that allowed me to process a decade’s worth of grief to emerge lighter on the other side. That’s not the only reason it was an achievement, though. Through this fic, I connected with so many other members of the community in a deep and rich way: I entered a beta-partnership with fellow GO author @ineffablerainstorm, rejoined tumblr to become more connected with people in the fandom, formed multiple long-lasting friendships, and had deep, enriching conversations about many hard topics with readers on AO3. While Phantom is not the easiest story to read as it deals with dark topics, it’s probably the best novel I’ve ever written, fanfic or original.
What are your favorite top three fics you wrote this year? If I include one-shots and my two WIPs that won’t finish until next year, I have six fics out from 2024. My favorites are:
This Phantom Life (AU focused on heavy topics such as self-harm, DV, and transphobia)
Rapture on the Seas (AU crack fic about mistaken identities set on a cruise ship)
Dead Right (AU pure fluff pining-while-married fic with a dash of neurospicy/SPD)
What was your biggest pit of despair moment? When I began writing fanfic in September 2023, it was the first time I’d written anything in many years due to trauma/grief. During those years, I believed I’d never write again, when I’d been writing since childhood. Once I began with fanfic, I wrote so much so quickly, and after six novel-length fics in ten months, I burnt out. I was so scared that I was losing the spark and would stop writing altogether that I kept trying, forcing out words that were wrong in stories that went nowhere. It was devastating. Really, I just needed some time off, and after I gave that to myself, the words flowed again.
What have you learned? Do not have two novel-length fics in progress at the same time, no matter how many buffer chapters you think you have. Buffer chapters get eaten fast! Also, take time to recoup between stories. Burnout is real.
What three fics have you read this year that you love? Yeah, no can do on the whole “three” thing. Here are my top ten fics NOT written by my GO-besties (who will get tagged below to fill this out instead!). In the order that I read them:

The first is a post-S2 canon fic that involves a reversal of fates for Crowley (now the new Supreme Archangel that he never wanted to be) and Aziraphale (a new demon who doesn’t quite fit, the way Crowley never did). The second is a collaboration AU with @ineffablerainstorm, based on Pride & Prejudice where Aziraphale is a photographer and Crowley a journalist. The third is that I want to go back and illustrate a few of my former fics. I’d love to write the sequel to Tender Morsels as well, but I’m trying to go a bit easier on myself in 2025!

I'm not fluent in any other language - although I've been told I am very quick to learn / pick them up when I've taken them for school. I do know and remember both some Spanish and some Russian. I would LOVE to actually be fluent - unfortunately, no one around me in person actually speaks any other languages so I never got to practice it. I used to try, but eventually just fell out of habit. I want to try again though and work on it. I don't know about SPEAKING it to be honest, I'm very shy and embarrassed. But I will probably be able to read/write and HEAR it. I really, really want to. It's just hard when there's not anyone else really, you know?

I do! Well, they're like family' pets. Two black cats named Salem and Luna. They're littermates we rescued. I post them on this blog a fair amount 😅 They're going to be five this year! They're currently acting like they've not eaten for 3 months because they know I'm about to feed them as I write this.

soooo. It's Complicated. There's two answers to this question. Technically it was made on February 13, 2015 as an ENTIRELY different rp blog. But the answer for it being a Chishiya & Ann blog would be April 14, 2024. So I missed my one year anniversary, WHOOPS. Also very funny it went 13 to 14. Not intended, but very funny. As for why I started it? Lain, Lain . . . the Alice in Borderland brainrot is so intense in case you couldn't tell. I also wanted to step away from my other blog. It felt very, very isolating on that blog for an extended amount of time. ALL blogs experience this, this one too, but I don't know. . . the other blog has just made me sad :c so this blog served to feed the brainrot and also give me an entirely new slate in a way?
[ teal ] which fandom has been your favorite to be a part of? which has been the least favorite?
HERE FOR THE TEA I SEE ! That's really hard honestly. I'd say favorites would be Hunter x Hunter and Alice in Borderland. Other fandoms hold near and dear spaces to me in my heart like OnS and TGCF, but I think these are two fandoms that have been very welcoming and supportive to me. Both from a roleplay perspective, but also personal / non-rp accounts that follow me as well. I've engaged with lots of people who follow me just for my headcanons or to interact with my portrayals or ask me questions even if they don't roleplay and it's always been so, so nice. A lot of other fandoms....make me feel guilty I'm not a very silly / crack roleplayer when everyone else is. And if I do something more silly/lighthearted, it's not enough in those spaces. Whereas in HxH and AiB, i've never felt PRESSURED to, and the lighthearted things I do on very rare occasions have been well received and fun. So it's nice. I feel comfortable. OUTSIDE OF RP, the MXTX cosplay community is SUPER, SUPER welcoming. There's other communities too, but mxtx has by far been the most pleasant.
As for least favorites? Hmm. That's hard just because I tend to be in a lot of very small fandoms. But . . . maybe the Bungou Stray Dogs rpc. Don't get me wrong, I had good experiences there. But it is the only fandom where I've had people ACTIVELY stealing my headcanons / content word-for-word to post on their blogs, and that left a very sour taste in my mouth. People could also be very petty / aggressive. Maybe it's calmer now. I must caveat that response with that this was when i wrote certain popular characters - in contrast, my Sigma blog was (is? it exists still but i don't write there and haven't for a while) always a very safe & pleasant space. Other than that? I can't say many because again it's usually been like me and 2 friends if that FHJDFG TINY FANDOMS. or dead fandoms, got to the rpc too late. Signature of me right there, late to fandoms or early but they don't get popular.
